If I would be arrested for it, then so should this rich man. I don't care what his job is (director). If the law applies to me, it should apply to him. End of subject.

It strikes me that Polanski/Spector, Garrido/Mitchell - the rapists and/or murderers of young girls and women, always have women in their heinous sub-culture standing up for them, helping them with their rapes, holding hostages, providing the small kindnesses to the victims that create the enslavement syndrome - and now we see that Whoopi is a Barzee (from the Elizabeth Smart abduction), except she has a 14 y/o daughter. Should the authorities question Whoopi "Barzee's" daughter as to whether she has been pimped out to other "Polankski's" we know are out there?

I think it is terrible that Polanski was ever arrested. If Polanski had paid her off straight away, there would be no case (unless he inappropriately touched a boy, then no amount of money would cleanse the poor child... dirty pederasts). Having sex with a female child is completely different, that is why Michael Jackson was treated like he was just like those horrible priests. Everyone knows that this girl seduced poor Polanski, she knew his parents had died in the holocaust and his wife had been murdered by Manson and his loonies, she knew she could use this to blackmail him. Her mother left her with him, knowing how he was like. For those of you defending the mother on the pretext that she hadn't left her daughter with just Polanski but instead with Polanski and that lovely Angelica Housten (Angelica even said that she was sullen on that day, which is surely a precursor that she was asking for it) know nothing. The mother should have served time with that dirty promiscuous child who had slept with others, regardless of whether she claimed that she had said no and wanted to go home. Thankfully the press ousted her and have justly kept us informed of her misdemeanours. Why should she get a 'free pass' when poor Polanski lavishes in France and Europe. She now wants it over... she should of thought of that before seducing him, the hungry starlet. At least future so called children-I mean girls really boys are a different story -would have learnt from her and keep their traps shut when Polanski is feeling down and needs a lift.

I am so glad Europe and the Hollywood community have stood up for him right from the beginning. I know they didn't do the same for Michael Jackson and that director that performed oral sex on that child in that clown movie, but you have to understand these were boys and we don't look kindly at that sort of stuff.

Polanski said it best to Amis when he said 'Everyone want to f--k little girls, everyone'. He is right of course. Look at the support he is receiving from great leaders, ordinary people and joe blog on the street.

Shazzzz ...whatever?? What on earth are you thinking? Are you thinking? This mad RAPED.....raped...a young vulnerable 13yr old child. Has everyone lost their minds? This should not even be debatible...he should be tried in the U.S. courts just like any other criminal.
Shazzz whoever you are>?? Do you even have children? Can you possibly phathom ..if you do....one of them being drugged, raped over, and over by a man old enough to be her 'grandfather'??? ** And dont get me started on Tinsel Town sloths that are his supporters. (This stuff goes on night and day with them...but they call it marriage..well for a while anyway). So please don't use them as "good" examples. All of them have gone completely wacko.
Oh..and so if a boy gets raped..."WE"??? don't take that so lightly. Wow..you are such a loose cannon. Your mind is so gone. Lay off the drugs, and get some perspective there..k? Does NOT matter who gets raped...!! Rape is Rape...no if's/ands/or buts. Roman Polanski is not dif' than anyone else that commits such a horrible crime. He needs to be tried, convicted, and locked up.
Bottom LINE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The only people who get sexual gratification from children of either gender are sick people. No, our country has enough criminals - we don't need another one.

I think that he shouldn't escape from US. He made the decision 30 years ago, it's time to pay for it.

i mean. it really is a tough issue. i mean, i never really knew what was going on behind the scenes, the emotional part, till shaz brought it up. so that's a good point there, and one that should be addressed.
however, i do believe that it shouldn't matter how sleezy and "easy" a girl is acting, people should have the will to just say no. but that doesn't always happen.
-should he be tried:yes i think he should.
-should he be convicted: he probably won't.
-should the girl get off lose and free: absolutely not. if she really seduce him, then she really should get some type of punishment, though im not exactly sure what the legal system could do for that.
and another thing. when shaz brought up that sexual quote that polanski said, and tried to rationalize by using that, i dont think that helped at all, i think that quote just made him look like more of a pervert and rapist. which im not exactly sure he is.

Few people who remark on this Polanski affair make an effort to obtain context or details outside of the absolutely useless panty sniffing "coverage" given by mainstream televised news. The distinction between rape and statutory rape is an important one (a distinction which has been codified into law. The same law which opponents of Polanski claim to hold in such high regard). Yet, the opponents of Polanski continue to refer to this man as a rapist.

Second, most of the opponents of Polanski, who claim to value law and also the victim, rarely, if ever, make reference to the opinions of the victim. The victim has not gone away. She is now an eloquent and confident adult who has an opinion on the matter. Shouldn't that be worth something? How many have taken time to consider her perspective on this issue?

And here's the real nut of this issue... I personally do not want Polanski to be extradited to the United States. I don't think he could have received a fair trial then and I don't think he can receive a fair trial now. The United States, my United States, my home country is deeply corrupt and vindictive. In a way most Americans choose to completely ignore. I think Polanski committed a crime and I think he should be tried and convicted, and I think he should serve an appropriate amount of time. But look at the remarks on this thread alone. Americans have this absolutism and cavalier vengeance mechanism where every charge requires a judge and jury to "throw the book at them and throw away the key."

Americans are so very quick to gird themselves all about with the holy armor of virtue when it comes to the life of one young girl, but our policies world-wide routinely abuse, murder, and exploit so many more thirteen year-olds. Our national policy is theft and murder. Yes, under Bush. Yes, under Obama. Red or blue makes no difference.

Many people in our for-profit prison system are warehoused purely at the whim of know-nothing, provincial juries and we routinely make errors in capital punishment cases ("Whoops!"), but Americans just can't seem to raise their level of concern above apathy.

This also is a product of the United States ongoing refusal to participate in international justice processes. We as a nation do not trust the justice systems of any nation other than our own. And for their part, other nations do not trust us. I personally would rather have any trial where my life and livelihood were at stake adjudicated anywhere but in my homeland of America. The American system of "justice" is truly terrifying. It is arbitrary and indifferent to human suffering. It, and so many other mechanisms of our "democracy" are profoundly damaged.

And the Los Angeles system is absolutely notorious for its deep and brazen corruption. Put yourself in Polanski's shoes. If you had to defend yourself in a court of law (and whatever else you think of Polanski, he has a right to defend himself), would you relinquish yourself to the legal system of China, North Korea, or Saudi Arabia? That's where the US system stands in 2009, like it or not. That's how far we've fallen.

I would like to see Polanski tried in an international court and I think he should definitely be convicted, based on the details I know about the case. However, that won't happen because the United States has opted out of international law.

If the Americans were so hell bent on getting him to trial, why didn't they just arrest him when he was in the states for the Academy Awards. Clearly the Government just wanted to embarrass him at his Lifetime Achievement Awards. It's so petty and so typically American .. it's almost embarrassing that the Government so often stoops to new levels of low just to prove a point..You had him and you did not arrest him..Why all the bother now?

He didn't come to the states for the Academy Awards.

there is no two way about it. a wrong is a wrong. he is man enough to do good and great things and receive the honour and recognition for it then vice versa.

hi,
its long ago and even that woman is not for persecution nowadays. More over the laws should be changed a girl having her menstruation and more than 45kg of weight should not be considered as child. that is also more closed to reality. In Austria a man can have sex with a girl/woman from 12 years if she and the mother agrees and when it happens in house of the mother.
So in every society these thing are handled differently.

Hey Szaz....are you saying that you would leave your children, nieces or nephews alone with Polanski? I didn't think so....

Even if a 13 year old tries to seduce a normal man, he would be disguasted and get out of that situation immediately.

I am sickened by Polanski's supporters and am boycotting their films.

The ignorant, women-hating men on here think and say such irresponsible things trying to cover up the twisted ways you try to make girls/women the "problem", when all you have to do is look at how your fellow men in all cultures create the sick and hypocritical system of abusing children and women to begin with. Men who talk like this are usually the ones who treat girls/women like cows and dogs, to be used and drained for your soulless existence and to convince yourself you are more powerful than you are, as you hide behind religion and "tradition" to excuse your brutal and immoral treatment and oppression of girls and women. If all women were suddenly absent from this planet, you would be the kind of men who'd be the first to abuse little boys if you could get away with it, and the first to be enslaved or assaulted by men even more angry and insecure than you are. You should do something about the men in your culture who demean and hurt and attempt to control others every day, instead of turning your fear/anger toward women all the time.
