While I don't really support a speed limit reduction, I would have far less of a problem with the speed limit being reduced to 65 MPH or MAYBE even as low as 60 MPH as I would with a drop to 55 MPH which is a ridiculous speed limit for a straight and flat Interstate Highway.

Exactly where in Lee County does traffic get congested, other than game days at 51 or 57? Even then all it takes is common sense. Come on now... Be real.
As a commuter who travels from exit 57 to exit 70 daily; the worst part of the trip is between exits 58 and 62. Drivers who fail to use the acceleration lanes, move to the passing lane without looking are the cause of many near misses I witness on a daily basis. The short acceleration lane south bound at exit 60 with 2 bridges immediately following is also a daily concern. A 55 mile per hour speed limit,ENFORCED in this 4 mile stretch would be welcomed if not needed. Of course re configuring the bridges and exits at exit 60 would go a long way towards resolving the danger that exists in this area.
I-85 needs a rail in the median. I drive from exit 51 to 77 daily and see numerous cars in the median or that have competely crossed the highway and caused horrible accidents. I look at the weather report and everytime there is rain in the forcast, I know that someone will be coming across the median. It is sad for all the lives lost or destroyed and scary for all those that travel on I-85. Maybe rails with a decreased speed will save some lives.
