Coming from Chicago, I know that everyone else is certainly not cheering for Rio, Madrid or Toyko? If Chicago get's the games it will be great for the city. GO CHICAGO!

why definitely he should get involved. does anyone realize how much money is to be gained. let the rest of the world see us in a better situation rather than fighting all over the globe. we are envied and also hated; let us try to change our image !

I think the president of the United States should get involved in lobbying for the Olympics in his home nation. President Obama wants to show the world that the United States is changing not only its foreign policy, but that hosting the Olympics in his home city will be a great venture among changing the image of our nation.
I don't remember any other president doing the same thing when we were up for hosting the Olympics once before. Others may have spoken about having it here, but Obama actually likes to get involved physically along with the First Lady Michelle. I approve of his involvement and for that I hope we get it.

Obama is a New World Order puppet!

Tony Blair did it for London.

I definitely agree, not only is there much money to be gained but we as Americans should always push for the Olympics to return home..its always good to be patriotic and be proud of the "good ole red and blue"

Of course Obama should campaign for Chicago. The IOC see it as positive if a particular bid has the support of the government. It's been well reported here in London that Tony Blair going out to Singapore definitely increased London's chances to host 2012.

I just can't resist:

So, we should be fighting for the games to return to Greece, again?

Seriously, though, I think this is EXACTLY the type of thing that the president should be doing. He's popular internationally, why would anyone object to him working to make our country look good and bring something to the U.S. that will be a huge boon to the economy?

Obama, could make a positive statement for the Olympics to be held in the USA, but he should not be traveling around the world while he has bigger issues here at home to deal with. He is not acting like a president but instead an actor. He needs to be working on our policies and trade issues, not sporting events and being on TV every chance he gets, you are all being PLAYED.

He is our president so I think it be to much on him to handle.

Think people, Who would be a better advocate for something like the olympics than someone who has lived there, someone who is the Leader of the Free world ?

That's the problem: You image in world is not going to get better, if you get the games to chicago. It will just increase envy...

The Olympics are getting very unpopular. Read comments here on BBC blog: http://worldhaveyoursay.wordpress.com/2009/09/30/five-ring-circus/

Ok, so as i look at this, 52% say "NO" but all but one comment seem to say "YES". Can any "NO"ers give a good reason why our President SHOULDN'T be lobbying to bring the Olympics here, to his hometown no less, that will provide (as previously stated) a great opportunity rebuild our soiled international image, and a potential financial boost, and definitely thousands of new jobs to Chicago? One GOOD reason would be fine.

Okay, here's one. This jackass is just skirting the real issues. He should be working on our fucking economy, not going out to get the olympics in Chicago. We've had it in the USA enough times, the other countries can have a turn now. How about he takes a sec to work on... I don't know, THE ECONOMY and get his head out of the clouds!

The Olympics would stimulate our economy. The games bring in tourists, who totally ooze money. That's exactly what we need.
Before saying his head's in the clouds, perhaps you should look a little more into it? Just sayin'.

Really now Obama, just because you are the most beloved and most celebrated human being on planet earth in 2009 doesn't mean you should compromise your celebrity and intellectual capital for the Olympics. Stick to the knitting dearest!
