As mediocre as Jake is, he's still the best QB the Panthers have. I do want them to change to Matt Moore so they'll finish the saeson at 0 wins 16 losses. Nothing could be finer than to be in Carolina when the Panthers lose.

Who gives a rat's ass what Jim Szoke thinks? I seen this morning on ESPN news when they asked Jake a question he adopted one of John Fox's favorite phrases " What it is is what it is". Seriously he said it. What a loser!!

First let me say that I will never agree with anyone from the Charlotte Observer. With that said, I don't know who is more predictable when it comes to throwing interceptions Jake Duhlome or Kerry Collins when he was here.
I told you it was going to be a bad season!

It is time for a change but Jake is only the symptom not the cause. The problem is management and the inability to make the proper decisions regarding their employees. Perhaps this has changed but it will take at least one year to see if this changes was for the better or just more of the same. In any case it does not look like a Super Bowl season or even a winning season. Perhaps they won't finish last in the Division.

Jim Z. is never wrong on stuff like this. His sports commentary this morning provided compelling evidence. There are other issues- and benching Jake does not solve them all....

Jake got his chance due to poor qb play. Moore should be given that same opportunity.

If this is the most important topic of the day, it is no wonder we are in the shape we are in! I bet you can name every player the Panthers have but haven't a clue who represents you in city-county government or in the state legislature.

The problem isn't Jake, it's an over expanded league and the dilution of the talent pool.

Of Course Jim does not want to bench Jake....WBT is the Home of the Panthers and he does not want to lose his GiG...So much for objectiveity by the press.

2009-09-29 11:27:02 ET

Let me get this straight. If Jake is benched, then the Panther's will fold like a house of cards, WBT will no longer be the home of the Panther's and Jim will lose his gig. Is that what you are saying?

Marty
2009-09-29 11:35:08 ET

Beth-
Jim will not say something negative againist Jake....if he wants to keep his job. The WBT talking points are to always be positive no matter how badly Jake plays. There are plenty of good QB's out there to replace Jake...the Panthers do a dis-service to their fans and the folks who buy tickets to put a substandard QB there. Steve Smith is wasting his career here because he is only as good as the QB's ability to throw the ball to him.

Some of the better terms used by the announcers of the game last night, talking about both teams: Dumb, Sloppy, . From this experience we can see that the Panthers can't get it together. This has to be a problem with the coaching staff (who are too cautious), and the owner & management, placing too much money on players who do not want to be here. The whole coaching staff should be replaced, Jake should be replaced, lets go try to find some real football players, just hope we can win one game this season(we will if the opponent has an off day)

Meanwhile, in the real news: Nick Mackey uses the same accountant AND EXCUSE as that bozo Geithner. Nice. Terrorists wanting to blow up subways and buses. Nice. Cant say this is "W" spin because "W" aint here anymore. So much for change. And we havent seen one damn thing done about the massive sucking sound of the jobs and manufacturing leaving this country. Our politicians do not real the bills they sign. People in this city drive like jackasses. And our city council whackos get re-elected over and over. So much for hope. Hey, we reap what we sow.

Is Jake a Joe Montana, Brett Favre, or Dan Marino? No...but he's a tough competitor and good leader. He’s also the best QB on the Panther’s roster…and it’s no where close to all Jake’s fault that the Panther’s are 0-3. The Panther’s are supposed to have a great running game. Why did they only run 16 times last night? Even with the lead they did not try to run the ball…and did not even have 80 yards on the ground to finish the game. Jake’s first interception last night…Moose made NO EFFORT to get the ball. It was not a great pass, but the receiver has got to try. Moose did that earlier in the game on a pass that was just a little long…he did not stretch out at all to make an effort for the ball. Jake’s second interception last night…Steve Smith showed a lot of class and admitted he broke off his pattern. Now how is that Jake’s fault? As for Jake’s fumble…that’s on the Offensive Line. Block well…QB does not get sacked. And then there’s the Defense. I think they showed some improvement last night…but they still gave up over 200 yards on the ground. News Flash people…Jake Delhomme does not play on Defense, does not block for himself, and can’t pass to himself either. Jake is not having a good season, but he is far from the only issue on that team. If you’re gonna bench Jake for poor performance, why not just do it right an pretty much bench the whole team…because the TEAM is performing poorly.

It is about winning...not about being a leader or having heart or being a good citizen...its about winning...Jake is a loser....Brett would have been better...or Vick....its about winning on Sunday...not how many Kids Jake reads to on Monday. He needs to wash the gumbo off of his hands before he takes the snap.

As Jim said last night on the pre show about picking the Panthers to win, is he is drinking the kool aid and yes he is too close to them to be objective. But what's wrong with that? If he were on WBT or any other local radio station and talking down the Panthers, we would want run him out of town on a rail. Bottom line is the Panthers are in trouble and without a major turnaround there will be many changes coming in the organization including the coaching staff this year. No playoffs in our future at this rate.

2009-09-29 12:40:53 ET

Well, put orccim! The team is in trouble and they are in bad need of a fix. Jim Szoke has pride in the team and there nothing wrong with that. I have pride in the Panther's also and went into last nights game thinking positive, as did others I know. It doesn't make a difference what any sport analyst say's about the team, it's the team that has to do the work. No one would listen to WBT if they were talking smack about the Panther's. They do critique the plays, the individuals and coaching staff and that is all their job.

Senior, I agree with you. I, too, think there are more important things. But it is a good sign that people are occupying themselves less with the screaming and yelling in politics and are returning to their normal lives. Consumer sentiment is improving, the Dow is up, terrorist plots are being disrupted, Iran is being confronted, TARP is being paid back (with interest), etc. etc. etc. People are getting comfortable that we have a President who is in control. You fear mongers can control the news only so long. At some point the truth shines through.

Shouldn't the real question be "Should we replace J. Fox" ??
What kind of game management was that in the second half !!!!!!!!!!! But we still need to replace Jake. The team is not a team, no spirit, no leadership, no management.

Jason nailed it. This isn't just Jake. This is several issues. At least we can blame some of the defensive problems on injury...

Senior Citizen, if those people actually represented my interests I might bother to learn their names. They're not the folks I voted for, and considering Dems keep realigning the district lines to make them guaranteed winners, I doubt it will ever be the guys I voted for...

Kathy, you started out with an intelligent response and then went downhill from there. No, people are not comfortable with this president, but you are right control is what he is after. Government control over all the facets of our lives. I don't know who is behind this puppet of a president, whether it is George Soros and his moveon.org or others, but definitely someone else is the puppeteer. The more I learn about him the less I like, and I think that goes for many Americans that voted for him.

I voted for Bush both times and realize how bad he was and will go down as the worse president this country ever had. I rank him with fox as the worse coach this team has had. I know the team did not lose 16 games under him, but he has had the horses. he just cannot get them ready to play.

I think the game against Dallas exposed that Coach Fox is the one to blame. Dallas made adjustments at half time and came out and whooped the Panthers. The panthers a) made no positive adjustments to improve their game and b) stopped doing what was working -- blitz.

Fox has seen better days as an NFL coach. He has consistently shown he plays to "not lose" rather than play to win. He was outcoached by a mediocre Dallas team. I don't think all of the blame falls on Jake on this one. Jake has shown that throwing the ball more than 25 yards is a jumpball that is thrown like a rainbow. Stop calling those plays.

Bottom Line: Fire Fox today. Play Matt Moore for at least 2 games and see how he responds. If I were Matt Moore, I would have asked to be released after they signed AJ Feely. Either he's a viable backup, or not.

Senior, many people like our President, and many people don't. That is the nature of the job and our vitriolic culture. He will have to be out of office for some time before we can properly assess if he was successful or not. People like you will never like him, and I doubt he will spend much time courting your vote. A president has to be concerned about the political middle, because that is where elections are decided. When the time comes to run for reelection, I expect Obama will again move more toward the middle and regain the support he has lost. I am not worried, neither about you nor the moderates.

Kathy, you ought to be worried about us right-wingers, because this is not a democracy. That means that just because 51% of the people wants something doesn't mean it can happen. It is a republic-a nation governed by law. Left wingers want government run healthcare? Well that is unconstitutional. Sorry-you cannot have that-even if 51% of the people want it. You and yours have a tremendous hurdle; the US constitution.

Interesting to read that Jake Delhomme is 'not a winner'. He was certainly a winner last year...going 12 and 4 in the regular season. For his career as a Panther, he is 49 and 34. That's a winning record. Get off the bandwagon people and think for yourself. It's a team sport. The team is playing badly. The issues are not going to go away by simply changing one player. Those calling for Jake to be benched...are you really that stupid? Have you ever actually played organized football? The whole team is playing poorly. We're going to take this one player...who is not playing well, and replace him with someone not as good...and that's going to solve the problem. If you want to look at someone to blame...look at the coaching staff. They create the game plans. They call the plays. They run the practices. They also Franchise Tagged Julius Peppers...who is making 16 million this year and has done nothing the last two games...two tackles in each game...that's four total in the last two games for you dummies...and no QB Sacks. He should have not been franchised and should have been allowed to leave, and with the room under the salary cap, the Panthers could have gotten two or three run stoppers. Can anyone actually give a valid reason to bench Jake? Not an emotional or desperate reason...but a valid reason.

Many of us don't care if Jake or the Panthers play another game! What we are more concerned about is the future of this country and how much debt and loss of freedoms our children and grandchildren are facing. If you want Jake to fiddle while Rome burns that's your prerogative, but as for me these government sponsored circuses exist to take your mind off reality. Bury your head in the sand of sports if you must, but I would much rather stand and look at what is happening around me.

I bury my head in the sand from 1pm-11pm on Sunday and 8pm -11pm on Monday. That's my choice. But that leaves quite a few hours to think and discuss the rest of the nation. I need a break from the stress, which is why I'm only watching Indy and NYG play from now on....

How do we go from talking about benching Jake to giving Szoke a rats ass to who our president is????? I would prefer to give the starting QB job to our president and Szoke the presidents' job. Then the president could get sacked and no one would give a rats ass about him.
