Of the four you have to go with Sanders. Oak Park was 1-3, Bishop Miege was 1-2 (and is 2 classes smaller than BV NW), Lansing was 1-2. Sumner was 3-0 and #23 in the Metro sports polls. Sanders has better stats and played against a better opponent. This is an easy pick.
Orel all the way on this one, he doesn't come off the field the whole game and has huge impact on defense and special teams. If he would have had the touches that sanders had he could have rushed for just about the same as sanders (add 7 more carries at 11 a pop and he could have 338). He also helped his team win against an opponent piper has already lost to. Sanders numbers are huge against an overrated team, but Orel's all around game was better.

I don't see how a loss to a common opponent has anything to do with a one game performance. I can't comment on Orel's average per carry because the Bishop Ward coach didn't add the stats. But on Max Preps Sanders carried the ball 30 times for 401 yards which is a 13.36 average. So your theory of 11 a pop still wouldn't add up to Sanders. 401 yards is not the single game rushing record for Kansas so let's not get ahead of ourselves. Also, I laughed about Orel being the most impressive HS football player, that was funny. That title would have to go to McCay at Miege. You guys are too funny.

I'm going to hve to go with Orel on this one. Yes Sanders had an unbelievable game and deserves credit for that but he only plays offense whereas Orel does not come off the field the entire game. The fact that he has the strength and endurance to rush for as much as he did after defense is what I look at when voting for this. Its not far fetched to say he is a great all around athlete and leader and anyone trying to take that away from him is an idiot. Okay Sanders gets the win on O, but what'd he do defensively or special teams? I read the Lansing paper and it credits Orel on defensive than offense. Also, Ward had another back in Muder who rushed for 100+. Sanders is a QB...how many passing TD's? I read that he had 56 against a Sante Fe Trail defense? By no means is Piper a better team, but they both had good weeks. Wards line has much more to give than Pipers for sure!

I never sided with either. I was just comparing the two young ones, in all honesty I watch the kid grab four touchdowns and have been heavy recruiting this kid. He didnt play every play, and they didnt throw to him everytime in which they very easily could have.
Does Sanders have any catching TD's? OREL HAS A CUPPLE WITH SOME INTS. The first Turner game they kicked away from him. I did see that. He, as well as Jasper have two things working against them both. Size and a lack of coaches that can reach out and get them were they need to be.
Miege has a tough D. They were only giving up 11 points per game before Friday. Ornduff put up 28 on them. He was also being covered by Releford, who will be playing D1 hoops at 'Bama next year.

The reason there is a debate is because its a poll. People have a right to vote and support their player. If they didnt think so they could have just given it to Sanders and forgot about voting. But as it is that isnt how it works and if people want to look at it as Orel did as well as he did even after playing defense as well as special teams then they are allowed to give him credit for that and believe that thats what makes an offensive player of the week. PrepMax the only reason jasper had 56 passing against santa fe is because they took him out after half time and we played they jv team. and he had a 90 sumthin yard return against lansing but ima have to go with my cousin jasper on this one

Piper and Ward might me small but we take great pride in our team and players and support them no matter what the outcome is at the end. Why does it appear most of the negative and hateful comments are coming from the obvious Ward supporters. The stats stand for themselves. Don't get so defensive, numbers don't lie! You could debate forever who is the better player, but that is a matter of opinion. If you want to look at who put up the better numbers last week, then that is obvious. Why bring baseball into this? This is about football. And besides, if local schools were allowed to recruit players like some of the other schools can, the competition in every sport would be alot better

I know Piper and Ward have been long standing rivals, but thats what makes the games exciting. There is no need for the type of comments from either school that have been put on here. For all of you out there that didn't see Orel play against Lansing I did. I was there scouting for another team and thought he had a good game running the ball even though there wasn't much of problem running against Lansing!Ward had 400 yards rushing. As far as his all around game he is lacking. Ward runs a wishbone and he tends to slack a little when he is blocking. He does return punts and kicks but did not impress us. He also is the deep snapper and struggled at that, though we heard he is filling in for an injured player.
Did you see the game with piper vs lansing i think jasper had about 230 or so yards against them as well. Lansing is much better than Sumner no matter what the record says. THe wishbone arguement doesnt work because he was still popping it off at 11 or so yards a carry but He didnt get 30 or 35 carries like you would normally see in a wishbone offense. If anything it is harder becuase they were stacking 9 and 10 guys in the box to stop Ward. Pipers offense isnt a wishbone but when the QB is running it 30 times, it isnt a passing offense either, so it is similar. Sanders numbers are better but that doesnt always say who had the better game. Both of them are deserving. If you are a strictly numbers guys go with sanders, if it is intangibles go with orel.

Congrats to both players on outstanding games. Both deserve it, and it is a very tough vote. Sanders put up crazy numbers, numbers that you for sure don't see everyday. There is alot to be said for Orel's nomination though, too. He plays in a dual running back set containing two of the best running backs in the Kaw Valley League: himself and Cole Muder. So for one of them to even be nominated speaks volumes considering they each take away from each other's carries and yards in a game. Good luck to both players and both teams this season.

Jasper Sanders by far had a better OFFENSIVE PERFORMANCE last week which I believe what the poll is about. If we want to go by stats Jasper has over 800 rushing yards this whole season and thats just in 4 games, I'm not sure what Orel has but I'm pretty sure it's not as much as Sanders. And the reason Orel stays in the whole game and Sanders doesn't is because Sanders is going to go to college for offense, he's played defense and offense all three years before this one, they don't want to get him hurt when they want him to focus on offense. If he played defense he would be a standout player on that side of the ball too. One more thing, Sanders is featured on rivals.com I dont think Orel is? Last time I checked only the best high school players in the country are on rivals.

here's the facts. he broke the school record for rushing yards in a game by over 70. the reason he got such little total yards against santa fe is because the pirate defensive was dominating santa fe. piper only had 9 offensive plays in the first half! and what was the score? thats right, 53-0,... at halftime! and against lansing, he had over 440 all purpose yards.

OK Max! I think on the Metro Sports top 25 list Miege is listed at 25, after Piper at 22. Miege has a record of 2-2 and Piper is 3-1. I think I would put my money on both Orel and Sanders against Miege.

First off congrats to both Sanders and Orel for great games. The people on here need to grow up. This isnt about where they go to school and the teams because that will be decided Oct. 16. Jasper had an amazing game which i witnessed, but they played Sumner. Although they were 3-0 they had played nobody and most of their wins were due to an explosive offense. Also, Sumner had 4 plays ineligible who didnt play including 2 starting linebacker and a starting nose tackle. That made a big difference in the game. Either way an amazing performance for Jasper and props to him.
Orel on the other hand played Lansing, who earlier in the year contained Sanders enough to beat Piper. Not compairing teams though because this is the player of the week not team of the week. Ward has a multi back offense which means Orel gets less carries than Sanders. Alex had a good performance in leading his team to a win and making them 3-1. Lansing is obviously a better defensive team than Sumner so comparing straight stats isnt correct. You have to take into account who the opponent was.
In my opinion both of these kids had great games. Piper fans should not say that we will see how Orel performs against Sumner because he has to split carries with Muder and Tobin on occasion. Personally my vote goes to Orel and im not biased on this by any means. He played against a better defense and had a great game. People are taking this farther than they need to, it Sanders and Orel not Ward vs Piper or Lets fight. GROW UP

Also it is harder for sanders for two reasons.
1. his line isnt as good as wards really good line
2. every defense knows sanders gets the ball alot and they expect it every play so think about that...its harder to do something when a whole entire team expects it every play...unlike orel..like everyone been sayin they run the wishbone so the defense cant just key on that one guy like they do against sanders..so orel should be able break away easier because defenses have to respect the other to runnin backs in the backfield also. but yet orel still didnt average as much yards per carry as much as sanders, he didnt have as much tds as sanders, and he didnt have as much yards as sanders.

I would agree with AB. Miege is a much better football team than Ward and Piper. They also recruit players and have what many call is the best player in the state in McCay.
Also, KC fBall proves a good point. I have also heard that Ward line is very good and Pipers is no so great. Not to mention that Sanders has throwing td's on the year and Orel doesnt even block for his fellow back Muder from what i have heard and seen. Sanders may not play defense but that isnt where Piper needs him. I may still go with Orel due to other decision from THIS week which the results are from.

You make some good points dotte for life, but whoever told you he doesnt block for cole muder is an idiot, plain and simple. Is he great at it, no way. He is probably average. Neither cole or alex are great blockers because they not lineman or fullbacks. They both are walking around at about 175 to 180 pounds and you want them to destroy linebackers in the trenches or corners in open space. THey try hard when they are on the field no matter who is getting the ball. Am i little biased, sure. I also have commen sense and am harder on alex than any of his coaches could ever be. Well i don't care wat anyone says. Piper got the coldest d. better not through the ball cuz someone will get an interception, will stick someone, and will turnover the ball on defense. the only reason j. sanders gets the ball is because we don't waste time on offense. piper scores and then kicks but. and with this platoon strategy, jasper don't need to play defense. if orel's gonna play some d, let's see what he can do with jasper. When piper throws the ball, someone will catch it. when ward throws the ball, someone will put'em in the dirt for catching the ball. lansing was just the first game of the season, some mismatch positions, few missing starters, and some mistakes were made. but now piper's broke in to fight. the offensive line will blind the defensive like always and jasper will stretch that 401 yrds and 13 yrds per carry average. he will also pass the ball and the receivers will burn the DBs. No need to brag about defense. Just watching game films and watching the defense play will make you bleed on the inside.
im gonna have to go with jasper... alex is a douche. just take a look at the stats. but we will really have to see who is the better player on the 16th but until then j sand looks like the winner here!!! dugins is a bitch!

Nick, so your problem is the fact that there is a poll, and they just should give it your man? well there is a poll and Alex has a lot of supporters, and if you take that as hate for jasper your an idiot. both good players, but this award will be going to the player with the better voter turnout.
The "hating" is more going towards Orel than Sanders. Like said before the only hate on Sanders is the fact that Orel has as many votes as him. Dotte for life...you must not have come to a Ward game or your listening to an idiot if you think that Orel doesnt block for Muder, if anything its the other way around so you must be listening to the wrong people. Second, the steroid accusations on Alex and Dallas...your starting to grasp at straws now. Give the kid credit for getting up for this and leave the nasty remarks alone.
