Bart Starr has more (5) NFL championships than anyone and is not in the discussion. I have no time nor any respect for this blog....

As of 2010, end of regular season. Let's face it, Tom is it. One more ring and its over, enough discussion. enough arguing, enough. The guys’ an unequaled messiah.. More records than can be mentioned, but here's a few highlights
28 consecutive home wins ...and counting..NFL record shattering
335 straight pass attempts and no interceptions, 4 for the entire 16 game season.
36 touchdowns this year, 50 in 2007 (all time record)
And let's not forget he was out for an entire season and came back from ACL reconstruction.
3 rings and counting, perfect reg season
4 years with 14 wins or more
1 MVP and another coming this year, 2 Superbowl MVPs
3 4th quarter Superbowl come from behind wins and counting
oh and best ever passer rating of 95.2 for his career!!!!
oh, that last one must be due to belichek!!!!!!!! you guys are a laugh!!!
and all done in just 9 played seasons...more records shattered to come
Come on, its not even close, please research and see even more records toppled

Farve was great, but blew so many games slinging interceptions time after time. Longevity he had, but spread all of his accomplishments over such a long carreer and his records are more understandable and not as impressive. Let's not mention his ego, he would not agree with your assessment of him, to him, he was even better.

How is Tom Brady not considered the best ever? Compare his stats with any player ever but also consider the amount of games played. Brady tops everyone!!

  • Cal - 13 years ago

Records, and stats do not only define the postion of quaterback. Unlike baseball, someones batting average, homeruns, RBI and walks can simply explain the hitter for the most part. Quarterback is a true leadership postion, its about finding a way to win without giving the game way. Having all eleven work as one.

Joe Montana never threw one interception in a four Superbowls, made jokes to relax different O lineman, and got in some guys faces when needs be, basically was an on field coach, leader, and friend to his teammates. He was calm and at his best on the biggest stages. He always built confidence and shared the glory.

Marino was a finger pointer, a "ME" guy and if anyone digs far enough knows his was great athlete, but not even close to being good leader, let alone great. Say what you want, but the Dolphins had just as talented teams in the 90's as Jim Kelly and The Bills did. Jim Kelly OWED Dan Marino. Look at head-to head meetings in the playoffs. Watch the film on Marino yelling and pointing fingers ,frustrated. Not calm, not cool, not collected.

Brett Favre, great leader I think not. Very good maybe. Durable, tough as hell and as they come, most certainly. Willing to risk too much too often to be considered great. The Mississippi Gambler sure, the Patton of the grid iron, no way. As for Brady, Peyton and Drew their story is not over yet. Tom has an amazing resume so far probably third best all-time, currently. You have to win it all more than once to be considered.

That leaves only Bradshaw. Fours superbowl wins, OUTSTANDING. I believe he had less to do with his teams victorys than Joe did. Joe had to make more with less. That Steeler defense made life a lot easier or Terry. Dont misunderstand me, Terry was leader and a winner. Beating the Stabach's Cowboys TWICE never looked easy. Those were two great games. Terry had the clutch passes to seal those deals.

I have heard that Marino never had a defense to help him. Thats bull, that killer B defensive in 84 was great, Joe Montana was better and proved it then and 3 more times.

Passing for 500 yards a game, with 4 TD's a game and never winning a Championship MEANS NOTHING...great you went 8-8 again and passed for 6,000 yards SO WHAT.

Quarterback is more than batting .302, with 40 hr and 120 RBI. To be a QB is to be a field general, for all 53 men to follow. Your supposed to bring out the best in your teamates not be little them. Inspire, believe and make it happen, no matter what adversity occurs.

I also understand that it takes greatest on both sides of the ball to win championships. However, it also takes more than stats to be the greatest Quarterback of All-time. JOE MONTANA did far more with less than anyone and accompilished more and did it with class.

  • gary - 13 years ago

Some one needs to wake up. He has almost every record there is, come on where is Brett Favre's name..........

  • larry - 13 years ago

At 40-yrs old this is the 1st time in my life commenting on a blob -- note I use a computer for 85% of my workload since '96.
1st, this may sound pompous, but to participate in the poll you should have played the game on a rather serious organized level for at least 5-10 yrs. 2nd, some on-field experience throwing and running with the ball for those years.
With all due respect to Dan Marino, he is not even in the top 5. Granted, any quartherback that is in the top 50 is of uncanny ability if you know the game. However, Dan would probably admit, he could not move out of the pocket and lacked versatility for the top .01% category. Nevertheless, during his time defenses had produced some great men, in great contrast to Fran Tarkenton's days when the defense was 2nd/3rd-string men. Sorry Fran, but godbless you, your social skills made your life balanced after retirement.
Again, I would like to emphasize, most people have no idea what it takes to be a pro football player; I dare not to.

  • mike morrison - 13 years ago

Please, yards does not make a quarterback. Quarterback...field general...someone that does his job so well ther's no catching up.Certainly not INT., guys like Favre, Elway, and refuse to run Marino. Just watch from week to week...like last week...2 -400 yard passers...both losses...Best QB ever here they are collectively..Johnny Unitas, Sammy Baugh, Otto Graham, Joe Montana, and Terry Bradshaw...and when he is done Tom Brady. Favre isn't even honorable mention. These guys with the 4th quarter comebacks..they are the ones that put their club behind with a stupid int.

  • carlos de la torre - 13 years ago

WHEN PEYTON MANNING AND TOM BRADY'S AMAZING CAREERS COME TO A CLOSE THEY WILL MATCH UP WITH THE AMAZING JOE MONTANA..........THESE THREE ARE THE BEST OF ALL TIME.

  • Theo Le - 13 years ago

If your talking about of all time then Joe Montana. If your asking up to date and who I think would be after there career is done, PEYTON MANNING. Brady?!?!! He wont even be top 3 this season. 2010 Peyton Manning, Drew Brees, and Aaron Rodgers.

  • A Beatty - 14 years ago

DAN MARINO will always be the best nobody has come close to all of his records and you Elway Montana fans are stupid did you forget that both teams always had superstars on there teams duh no wonder they went to multiple Superbowl'sl next you guy's will say Barry Sanders was an alright running back. I will say that Farve Manning are better then those two but not Marino. Also Joe Namath should be number 2 just because he said he would take his team all the way to the Superbowl and win on game one of the season and did it no other QB has done that either.

  • bob g - 14 years ago

It's hard to say who is the best of all time. Unitas was superb; Montana was outstanding AND a quarterback that his team loved; Elway in the clutch, along with Montana, what can you say? Both superb. Coach Bill Walsh said Elway was the best he ever saw; Brett Farve is a human wrecking machine. When he is done, whenever that is, he will be right up there in future arguments about the greatest ever; Steve Walsh was superb, tough, and as accurate and strong a passer as you will ever see; also, Terry Bradshaw with a canon arm and four super bowl wins. Wow. Awesome athletes.
My favorite, who will never be called one of the all-time greats, Joe Namath. Just ask John Madden. Madden raved about Namath, and so did Al Davis. Madden told the story, more than once, about how Namath, in a horrendous rain storm, threw the ball diagonally downfield, over 75 yards against his Raiders. And, just ask any Namath fan who they wanted under center. Namath was accurate, had a cannon arm, and knew football inside out. Just ask the Colts and Unitas about Super Bowl Three. No one was better than Namath, in a regular game, or in the clutch. He was awesome.
Finally, no debate about the greatest quarterback of all time is complete without mention of DAN FOUTS and the San Diego Chargers. The guy was a human cannon, ran Air Coryell like it was always a wrecking machine with Charlie Joyner and Kellen Winslow as receivers.
Man, its just too hard to pick one guy. And, what about "the Snake," Kenny Stabler. Ol Southpaw from Louisana, and he led the Oakland Raiders when they reeked havoc on opposing teams. Freddy Bilentnicoff and Kenny just blasting the Chargers, and vice-versa, with Fouts on the attack. The Chargers and Raiders games were awesome.
Ah, the list goes on and on............but, the best DEFENSIVE PLAYER EVER, that crazy guy who destroyed Joe Theisman, on Monday Night Football, good old LT, Lawerence Taylor! And, did you notice Theisman retired after LT broke his leg? Can't blame him. Honorable mention, Dewey Selmon, Ben Davidson, Jack Tatum (probably the best, clean power-hitter in the game). Anyway, this is food for thought and debate.

  • Jim - 14 years ago

When you look at the %'ges You can see Joe Montana has avg Better than the combineed avg of the other Two
and better than all the others combined JOE MONTANA is the pick
Now ALL YOU BAD WORD-NASTY MOUTHS That probably never played the game past jr Hi Much less coached the game,Fold your tents, an be quite for once in your life

  • Alan Kendall - 14 years ago

Peyton Manning at the rate he is going will beat all of Farve's records except the interceptions.

  • Joseph - 14 years ago

Otto Graham? Played 11 seasons and 8 or 9 titles if I remember correctly. His teams played in a Title game EVERY season. Never finished worse than 2nd, ever. He has NFL Titles and and NBA title as a player.

How can you leave him out of your list?

  • stephen farrar - 14 years ago

This poll has it right to date nobody has past joe montana in super bowl wins with 4 i would say brady is second just because of the 3 rings he has and his work on the field could move to first with another ring? manning is good but only 1 super bowl to many lost games in the playoffs or would have 2 rings now maybe ranked 2nd behind joe. after his days are over?well see.

  • rajcevich - 14 years ago

The number of superbowls that a quarterback has won should not factor in to whether or not hes the greatest quarterback of all time. That just means he was on great teams. You have to decide based on individual stats. completion pct., td passes, passing yards, interceptions. How well they did in the clutch does play some part of it. So Montana, Favre, Manning are the top three in my opinion.

  • kendrick - 14 years ago

peytons a liittle more expierienced but BRADYS just smarter on the field and the brady moss package is a kill

  • Andrew Shuler - 14 years ago

and if you dont like my picks than suck it

  • Andrew Shuler - 14 years ago

Top 5 QB's of all time right here

    1.Favre
    2.Tebow
    3.Manning
    4.Montana
    5.Elway

  • Nigga - 14 years ago

    Elway
    Favre
    Manning
    Montana
    Vick

  • Jonathan - 14 years ago

    Manning
    farve
    marino
    brady
    coult mccroy

  • Joe Smith - 14 years ago

NO MATTER WHAT ANYONE ELSE SAYS ON HERE, THE GREATEST QB OF ALL TIME IS JOE MONTANA. ENOUGH SAID.

  • Joe Christensen - 14 years ago

Peyton Manning sucks him and Bret Frave don't belong on this list JOE MONTANA IS AND ALWAYS WILL BE THE BEST QUARTERBACK UNLESS SOME ONE CAN BEAT HIS RANK AND HIS NUMBERS!!!!! MANNING AND FARVE CAN SUCK COX!!!!!

  • Bosco - 14 years ago

Where is Terry Bradshaw? Four Super Bowls count for nothing. Fran Tankington shouldn't even make the top fifty quarterbacks of all time. Couldn't win the big game and just loaded up his stats......

  • John Wimmer - 14 years ago

Dan Marino is the best ever, he still owns the most records. He did not win the superbowl, but he has accomplished everthing else in the nfl other quarterbacks dream of.

  • Dan - 14 years ago

As big an Elway fan as I am, I must concede the others. The all-time greatsest QB order WILL be- 1.Manning 2. Montana 3. Elway/Brady 4. Frave 5. Marino

  • MAINEiac265 - 14 years ago

Where's Payton?? Personally I can't stand the guy, but you have to look at his stats. He should be up there with these guys right now!!

  • Stouffer - 14 years ago

Yeah I'm going to have to say that Favre and Manning will be up there once their careers come to a close. Hopefully, Favre's ends this year, but who knows?

Joe Johnson made me laugh haha

  • Hoosierman - 14 years ago

    Top five:
    Manning
    Montana
    Favre
    Brady
    Elway

A very easy list to make. And I must say, the only reason Marino is not on my list, is because he failed to win a superbowl, but he was great. But, in order to be on top, you must be a champion.

By the way, Drewbrees Fan, your hillarious!!!!!!!!!!! Drew Brees will never be as effective behind center as anyone on my list or the list above. But I still respect the fact that your a fan of his. He is really good; but if your going to comment on discussions like this, give respect were respect is due.

  • Colts suck - 14 years ago

if you like the colts kiss my butt

  • Drew Brese Fan !!!!!!!!!! - 14 years ago

  • Drew Brese Fan !!!!!!!! - 14 years ago

  • Joe Johnson - 14 years ago

I Think you guys are all stupid because John Elway is the best so is Peyton Manning

  • johnny - 14 years ago

Warren Moon is the greatest of all time CFL 1st the NFL. Nobody could pass like him. Terry Bradshaw is 2nd, did'nt have lots of yards , gave the ball to the backs a lot. Bradshaw was the total team player, did not care about stats ,just wanted to win.

  • T-man - 14 years ago

Joe is and willl always be the greatest ever!!!!!! Everyone knows that!!!!!!!

  • IRISH - 14 years ago

Montana was EASILY the best! Four for four in the superbowl and he would have had five if schottenhimer wasn't coaching the CHIEFS!

  • jano - 14 years ago

Peyton WILL be the greatest. He will have all the records (except Farve's interception records) and will have one (so far) at least one Super Bowl.

  • ManningMania - 14 years ago

There is only one true "Greatest QB Ever"....and even though he is in the company of greats, there will never be a QB like Peyton Manning!!....He has or is breaking every record that exists for pro quarterbacks....and he still has another 3 to 6 years to play given hes healthy. He and he alone is the Indianapolis Colts....I live in La. as i am very proud of the Saints this yr and i do love the Saints but the Colts will be my team until Manning leaves them...Never has there been a leader like Manning...prove me wrong if u can...good luck

  • diehardsteelersfan - 14 years ago

I think that roethlisberger is the best QB just becuse he led the steelers to their 6 super bowl win.

  • sam nic - 14 years ago

Brady is better than all of these guys... not only does he have ridiculous stats like Marino and elway.. and has all kinds of records to prove it, he has also won 3 superbowls, has two superbowl mvp's and one league mvp. How can you say manning is better, when brady has similiar numbers, but two more superbowls?

  • brady - 14 years ago

I think that Drew Brees will go to the final. they are so going to win aginst the patriots. the saints are going to the finals i know they will. Drew is a remarkible player i think he is better than BRETT and all the people up there execpt peyton and brady quinn. drew is a star player he could beet brett and so can peyton, any day on passing and running. GO DREW GO PEYTON GO BRADY QUINN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • nicholas - 14 years ago

Johnny Unitas was the greatest QB ever. The best leader, the toughest, the best under pressure, the original two minute QB, the originator of the pump fake. He called all of his own plays and played in an era where off sides was 10 yard, any other penalty was 15 yards.
The defense in Unitas' day could hit a receiver five yards beyond the line of scrimmage and punch, close line, and hit the QB below the knees.
Tom Brady, Peyton Manning, Dan Marino or any of the "modern" QBs after 1978 would have been sent to the hospital. Unitas was unique and one of a kind.

  • matt - 14 years ago

Dan Marino is way better than all of the people up there

  • Justin - 14 years ago

Peyton by far the best he's going to break any record set by Marino/Farve if he ever retires

  • mike - 14 years ago

Peyton Manning WILL be the best qb ever once his already amazing career comes to a close.

  • kevin - 14 years ago

brady for what his stats are and what he accomplished in such a short time

  • jennifer call - 14 years ago

Why isn't Favre on the poll? Surely he nis up there with Elway? He's my pick.
