I am against illegal immigration but if a child is brought here by his parents, he is here by no choice of his own. This is a fair compromise.

By the time most of these illegals will "graduate" from high school, they have already sucked the system for YEARS of free medical care, food stamps, and education! Hey DIR, a child of any criminal in jail must, through no fault of his own, suffer from the results of his criminal parents. But at least when you deport children of ILLEGAL immigrants with their parents, the family remains together.

Opportunity for what? By definition, illegals cannot legally get a job. The entire situation does nothing but foster contempt for the law and those that are supposed to enforce it. Community colleges are flooded with people right now. Obamanomics has not helped businesses creat jobs (and has actively worked against job creation, but that's another poll) and people are taking advantage of the community college system to increase job skills or be retrained for another career.

Now, out of work US citizens, will have to compete with illegals for seats?

How do we tell if a student is an undocumented immigrant? Will we ask every student to prove citizenship? I think it is perfectly fair to allow only people who are in America legally to study at our schools, but I am afraid that we will profile people rather than apply the rules equally.

How can it better the future of an illegal if they are allowed to attend college? They should not be able to take a job from a citizen if the employer ensures that they are legal with an I-9. If the gov't cracks down on the empolyers who hire the illegals, then it won't be an issue anyway. Oh yea - it is unamerican to raid an employer and take a father away from his country (per Pelosi).

If the community colleges do not have the demand for their services without committing an illegal act, perhaps we really don't need the service they offer. This is the reason this subject keeps coming up over and over. Reduce the size of the community colleges to the level they can sustain and perhaps there will be no illegal demand for them.

The study found that 111 out of the 220,000 students in the system were illegal. To me the cost don't justify the effort. I suspect that putting 220,000 people through some sort of process to establish citizenship in order to catch 111 violators is going to be really expensive and not worth it. Also I prefer an educated illegal over an uneducated one any day.

The law must be changed! Anyone born in this country of aliens that are not here on a permanent visa status should not be granted automatic citizenship. Born of illegals you remain illegal, period. Citizenship has its responsibilities and should also have its benefits. According all the rights of citizenship (except for voting privileges) merely because of their presence in the country is wrong. We afford more rights and opportunities to non-citizens in this country than any other country in the world. No wonder there is so much animosity toward illegals. .....For your information, I was not born in this country. I came legally and became an American citizen after serving a tour in Viet Nam with the US Army, and NO, I was not granted automatic citizenship because I served!

The slide toward socialism continues. Allowing illegals into the college system allows politicians to buy votes by using our tax money to pay their way through our schools, thus cementing the left leaning politicians in office. You say illegals can't vote? Well, what's to stop them? They can obtain social secuity cards, and drivers licenses. No problem. Yesterday, the US House of Representatives (ask yourself, are they representing YOUR interests) approved HR 3221 which contains provisions to disallow all private loans to students, instead creating a new bureaucracy to dispense loans, and eventually allow "repayment" by serving in "approved" jobs. And, HR 3221 now allows the Secretary of Education to develop a federal shool curricula, opening door to still more propoganda and indoctrination into politically correctness. And, HR 3221 is estimated by the CBO to add $50 billion to the already astronomical deficit. Our represetatives in both state and federal government are looking for themselves, not us.

We can address this issue very quickly by granting legal status to all immigrants and subsequently provide them a path to citizenship. Problem solved.

I am in full support of a nearly clean sweep of congress. Of course there are those who rely on ABC, CBS, NBC, CNN, MTV, NY Times, etc for their news and believe that Obama and the congress are really looking out for them. Sadly, this ignorance is widespread, and the ignorant and lazy who live on the efforts of others continue to vote themselves more government largesse.

Let me add, if you have not written to your congressman to DEMAND that a full investigation into ACORN and all of its like-minded agencies, you are derelict in your duty as an American. There are over 100 organizations that hide under the ACORN umbrella...find them and all politicians who have protected this racket. I think that this is where the RICO statutes should be applied, not to some pro-life protestors standing outside an abortion mill.

Loafer, try suing someone for illegally entering the country. You can't; just like I can't sue you for not wearing a seat belt, speeding etc. All the examples you give, as well as illegal immigration, have no victims. I.M. Dem, I'm surprised by your ignorance. You don't sue for a criminal offense. You sue in civil courts not in criminal courts. Illegal immigration is a criminal offense not a civil matter. As it is a criminal offense then they should be regarded as criminals and should be prosecuted as such. I'll get a larger fine for speeding than they for entering the country illegally, and since they are entering the country in such large numbers it is more of an invasion than anything else. Sovereign nations protect their borders, unfortunately many like you would rather we abdicate our sovereignty. Maybe we should just be a nation of the world? We can just let the United Nations govern us, no more elections, think of the money that would save and the goodwill we would spread to other nations. We would be a kinder, gentler nation. Community colleges are primarily for those who want to improve their chances of getting better jobs. They aren't going to pay out-of-state tuition to take cake decorating or basket weaving. There is no other reason for them to attend.

Loafer, according to Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano entering the country is not a criminal offense. Rather, it is a misdemeanor. I know there are people who disagree with that assessment, but I believe the statute is not clear. Obviously, clear or not, it won't be enforced by this administration. Consequently, I expect that we will not see any criminal convictions.
