Kevin Skinner winning is...

It was impossible not to notice the expression of surprise and pleasure of the judges on the night Kevin Skinner first performed. I told my wife then that he was the one to beat. He might not have had the greatest talent among the many, but the average working person liked him, and he certainly has more talent than most of us. What is he doing now? There is a LOT of money to be made in country music.

  • Whyemier - 14 years ago

Yes, I can sing, don't claim to be professional but I have had training. Kevin on the other hand, can't sing. He never cariried the tune and had no charisma and little presense on stage. All he had going for him is his sob story.

All this has done is reinforce my opinion that most of America is tone deaf and takes a good story over talent any day. Too bad, some really good talent got passed over this time, at least for the show. I wouldn't be surprise if the last contestants all got contracts. Anyone of them could outsing poor ol' chicken plucker Kevin.

My opinion only, everyone has one and they all stink. Oh yea, I have also given up on a rigged program like America's Got Talent.

  • Olga Mendoza - 14 years ago

Way to go Kevin. All of you complainers, can you sing? I'm glad he won, he's got TALENT.

  • cc - 14 years ago

Wow! how can someone not be ashamed to go on TV in those clothes, and then all the crying. The whole thing appeared like a setup to win simpathy votes. He did a good Garth Voice mimic

  • yasminne - 14 years ago

he sings good too.it touch my heart wen i heard him sing.

  • yasminne - 14 years ago

i like him i think he is pretty cute ;)

  • John - 15 years ago

read a lot of comments about Kevin here, and he does have a fractured voice, but that is what grabs you because he sings from the heart. If all of you that watched him sing " If tomarrow never comes" didn't get the wow factor then, you don't have a heart. I am not over it yet, I asked my oldest adult grand daugter to watch a rerun without telling her what it was. She laughed out like every one did on that night, but when he started to sing she said "wow" I can't believe this. You see the wow factor was real and it lifted up a lot of people. I am so glad I watched the show live. Will Kevin make it sure he will, will the others make it , you bet they will. Even the last show with the bad acts that were cut was great. Any of the last 20 acts could have won the show but the Wow factor was the difference.

  • PEEWEE - 15 years ago

surely there were better talented people than this clown. the ONLY reasons why this idiot won is because he was out of a job and had a family. he is not going to pack them in out in vegas. he sure won't make the strip that's for sure. i sure as hell wouldn't pay $100 to see this fool. they would have to pay me a hell of a lot of money to see him. why america voted this clown to win is beyond me. i thought america had better taste than this.

  • Silky - 15 years ago

GOD! NOT IN VAIN AMERICA IS CONSIDERED A NATION OF MORUNS AND IDIOTS...KEVIN SKINNER WAS (IS) ONE LESS TALENTED IN THE SHOW.
I THOUGHT "AMERICA'S GOT TALENT" IS A TALENT SEARCH SHOW, NOT A PITTY SHOW. I WILL NOT WATCH THE SHOW EVER...DISSSSAAAPOINTING.
AND YOU STUPID VOTERS (THOSE WHO VOTED FOR SKINNER)...WAKE UP AND GET SOME MORE EDUCATION...I AM SURE MOST OF YOU DO NOT KNOW HOW MANY STATES ARE IN AMERICA...

  • Julie Larkin - 15 years ago

All of you who do not agree that Kevin should have won are so narrow minded. You really don't get what the show is about. I'm sure that you are all overly critical in all aspects of your lives. The fact that you think anyone cares if you never watch the show again speaks volumes.

  • Dave - 15 years ago

Americas got Talent my ass!!!!! I was never as disapointed as I am now with the choice of skinner winning, please!!!! He was no better then the guy next door who would sing karoke at the local tap on friday and saturday night. He should not of even made it past the auditions. Hey I got a idea everyone next year just go in the crying like a little baby every time you talk and maybe to you can be the next million dollar winner.

I could remeber when the show first came out and there was talent.....this is not amercian idol people this is a talent show yet 7 of the top ten where singers....common we want to see talent not singing, if I wanted to watch a singing competition I would watch american idol, I think we can do with out all the singers next time around and let some of the good acts atleast make it past the auditions..........This was the scam of all scams.....im glad for kevin making his million although he didnt deserve it........but lets get the show back to reality and people that do have real talent......recycled percussion now that would be a great show.....anyone ever heard of blue man group??? similiar but different.....how about the contorshinost now that guy may not have diserved to win but atleast its something different not singing and especially not some cheap karoke version of a song that 90 percent of americans can do so what he has heart and dont take much to twindle up a few fake tears to ruin a good show!!!!

  • cunniingham - 15 years ago

There are several comments on how 'humility' goes a long way and I could not agree more. Like with family and friends, you don't mind doing for someone who is grateful. Kevin stole my heart from the first interview to his winning. I think he has a style that will take him all the way.

  • Scrappy - 15 years ago

Bad choice for winner from what has shown itself to be a truly stupid program. I think next season I'll buy Rosetta Stone and learn a new language rather than watch this inane and silly show.

  • ccc - 15 years ago

good for you Kevin --- let's send him some good solid kind and enduring energy --- we all have to start at some point so be decent and kind and afford him that respect --- he won fair and square now let's see what happens from here
we all want to be respected and validated and none of us ( I REPEAT) none of us are pure gold, otherwise we need not be here if our journeys were spun gold on our DOB
did you ever think that is why the world is in such a weakened state????
come on people - we are all in this together and we need to uplift each other and in so doing we uplift the world -------- do you get it?
I do Kevin and I am from Kentucky and many other chicken catching arenas world over

  • Not surprising.

Piers Morgan is a bum who has never really had to work a day in hls life. He is the esssence of British snobs. Kevin represents America and he richly deserved the honor he received. Mr. Morgan, take your remarks on Kevin and all the other malicious remarks you threw at those who were trying so hard and pray that what goes around coms around. You richly deserve the Mud Mouth Award. I' sure your Mum is very proud of the snot she raised and assuming you know who your father is he should have held you accountable to a value system that encourages people vs. one of "what can I say that the producers will bring me back next year." Daddy Morgan, you blew it. Your son is a whimp and can't hold his own with the best of the best. Worse thing for the show is the mouth of PIERS MORGAN puke. Great job, Kevin. Keep it going.

  • Leora - 15 years ago

I think Kevin Skinner deserved to win. He is so very humble and down to earth . I just hope you stay that way. He may not be the greatest singer, but neither was Johnny Cash or Bob Dylan and look at their success,SO, WAY TO GO, Kevin!

  • Jean - 15 years ago

kevin won for the simple reason that more people voted for him. It is bumming me out that so many are saying that he won because of his 'sad story". Barbara used her cancer story to help summon up the sympathy vote, and I never heard Kevin say anything to bring out the sympathy votes, but I did hear him say in an interview that he was proud of where he came from. He also donates much to St. Jude's. All the proceeds from a benefit held in Mayfield in kevin's honor were given to St. Jude's at his request. He is a very caring person. I feel for Barbara, I truly do. I recently lost my husband to cancer, so I know how devestating it can be. But that does not erase the fact she gave the sad story to garner votes, not Kevin.

  • Scarlett - 15 years ago

got Talent is supposed to be a talent show, and poor Kevin has none. I'm sorry. Her's not attractive; he has no charm; and he can't sing. Who the heck voted for him anyway? This isn't a "most pitiful" contest. I repeat: it's about talent. He'd have never made it past the auditions at Idol. The show has totally lost any credibility. The other singers -- all who are varying degrees of good to excellent -- must have been sickened to lose to someone like him. He'll be catching chickens again in no time. I'm sorry, Kevin.

  • Rosy - 15 years ago

My son sings like a professional and if he sings in American's got Talent he could sing like Kevin, like Barbara, like all of them, because they did it very well in different stile. For that reason,go Kevin,Congratulations, you are the winner. We support you from here, Miami

  • Gary - 15 years ago

You've GOT to be kidding. This guy is NO million dollar act. Beamon was better. Padilla was better. Recycled Percussion was better. Even the Voices Of Glory were better.
    I think you're tone deaf.
I don't know how Skinner made it as far as he did.
I DO know one thing, though. This program will never have the credibilty it had, ever again.

  • moosewish - 15 years ago

Ok. Nadine and all of you others mentioning about the "hard life" that Kevin has had and Barbara's cancer...can we just not look or think about any of that? Who needs the money more. Who has a degree and who can barely read. Just PRETEND that we didn't know any of their background to sympathize with. WHO is the most talented? That is the concept of the show. Who would you actually pay to see somewhere? Ignore all the rest of it. When you listen to the radio, do you think to yourself "I like this singer but they had a pretty easy life so I don't like them as well..." or vice versa? So many of you have lost that this is a TALENT COMPETITION. That is what the voting should have been based on. I hope that for next year's show that it doesn't cover so much of someones background and just be based on talent alone. Results would hopefully be more realistic.

  • ann-max lacey - 15 years ago

if he makes a cd 100 percent will buy a down to earth country boy love your voice

  • Reality Joe - 15 years ago

Please STOP saying that "he sings from the heart". Singing from the heart is one of the BASIC requirements of any good singer. Another basic requirement is the ability to carry a tune! Skinner CANNOT carry a tune and does NOT have a professional voice. He's also a mediocre performer and probably not much of an artist - but time will tell.

If you voted for him because he's "poor" or "humble" or because he's from the south you should be ashamed of yourself. It is a TALENT competition. This is a total JOKE!

  • Michael - 15 years ago

Kevin Skinner won because people like a poor boy. He can't sing, he can't play. He has no talent. He cannot carry a tune. The folks that love him love him because they voted for him and he won. He could fart the National Anthem and they'd swear he was "just a singin' from his heart, God bless him!"

  • Jamie - 15 years ago

I had to go online to read the comments about this outcome. I can not believe it either. I fell in love with Kevin Skinner as a nice guy with a sweet story, but talent? I also could not listen to the end of any of his performances but the first one. I DVRd this show and was so anticipating the final result, never expecting Kevin to make it to the top 10 let alone the top 5. There was so much talent up on that stage that got eliminated, and they were all so gracious when they were eliminated ahead of Kevin. Like all the comments I read, I am happy that he can do well by his family now, but we were watching a talent contest and about who could hold up in Vegas and what kind of show could he put on for 90 minutes there? My time is precious because I work long hours and squeeze in a little recorded TV before bed, and I feel cheated and that my time was wastedwith this outcome. However, I am glad to have had the opportunity during the season to discover the others in the top ten and I will follow their careers--especially Barbara. I was in Vegas in July and would be grateful to see a show with her, Recycled Percussion, The Texas Tenors or the Fab 5 for at least 90 minutes. Kevin, you seem like a nice guy and a great family man and I wish you and your family prosperity and good health, but you are not a Vegas entertainer. Like many others, I will have a very hard time watching this show again.

  • Forrest Gumpworsley - 15 years ago

Stick a fork in it! This show is done! What a farce! I will never watch again!

  • Sandy - 15 years ago

We had a group over for AGT and could NOT believe that Kevin Skinner won! We guessed him to be the first one OFF! Heavens to Betsy, he didn't even comb his hair to come on the show. His singing was awful. Don't know how he ever got through. Like most of you say, the sad story. This was AGT - not Sob Story Wins. I had guessed Lawrence Beamer (dang he sang good with Thelma Houston), Texas Tenors, Barbara, or even the kids that sang Gospel. They were awesome...but Kevin Skinner? I can't help but wonder if the numbers got mixed up on the phone calls!

  • pat - 15 years ago

Kevin won because there is so many people could put themselves in his shoes.vegas will do a remake on him that will be unforgettable. His performance will be out standing.Ivoted for him and proud of it

  • Johnny Flores Denver, Colorado - 15 years ago

Kevin Skinner won Americas Got Talent
Those who did not consider him to be the best Talent in the competition
    "Get Over It"
All of us who voted are happy he won, he deserved to win.
God Bless you Kevin, no more chicken catching for you
you caught your lucky star, hang on and enjoy the ride

  • nadine - 15 years ago

Kevin winning is the RIGHT choice and I am very happy, very. I agree with the comment a few lines below about Barbara, way too much glamor and assurance, I am also a cancer survivor and there are many of us out there and I can tell you one thing, struggling to feed your family was a much much bigger struggle and requires a lot of courage and strenght sooooooooooooo I feel Barbara does not deserve more credit on being a strong person than Kevin. She should take all her glamour to Broadway. I really dont feel she deserved that much attention just because she had cancer. I get the feeling that is the ONLY challenge she had to face... she obviously is well off financially and had the chance to study in expensive school... so please people stop the pitty and look at the real picture, Kevin Skinner totally deserved to win, he is real and has certainly been through a lot of rough times even if cancer was not one of them.

  • Marilyn - 15 years ago

Kevin, I think you were great. You should smile more though. You are a big hit now and I can't wait to go see your show in Las Vegas!

  • Slinkie07 - 15 years ago

I think it was a damn good choice!!!! He's a good guy and the most genuine act on the show. Kevin has that good ol' country voice that people haven't heard in awhile. And to the people who say he can't sing worth a damn, bullshit!!!! I do agree he has a little rough spots live but so does every other damn act who sings live and most of them aren't really singing its a damn recording....

ANYWAYS AMERICA VOTED!!!!!! So no matter what people say, we picked him and thats that!!!!!

  • zzcatz - 15 years ago

shame on all the people that put kevin down, you people made fun of him but who laughing now,he didnt say he was great,or that he will win the contest ,all he said i will try my best, yes the opera sang better and she won once already by beating cancer, can you all be proud of a hick with nothing, shame on the us ,and i wish i could meet this fine gentlemen we here thing he great, god bless the kevin skinner, and i hope have great career and shut these people up.

  • Kent J - 15 years ago

America MIGHT have talent, but it has no TASTE.
    i LOVE country music.
    I LOVE opera.
    I can SING.
    I am not a snob.

Mr. skinner is average. I don't know what this 'singing from his heart' thing is... he is just SO average.

BUT... when Barbara sang Ave Maria (a song i pretty much never wanted to hear again) i wept like a baby.

The fact that America did not vote her the winner makes me ill.

I cannot see what people see in Kevin. He is clearly a mediocre talent.
I dont care what his past is, i wish him best for his future, but i woudl never in a million years pay 5 bucks to see him in LV much less at my local country two step bar.. where the dancing is FREAKING AWESOME.

i am so completely bewildered by him winning.. that i am going to piss off my wife next year and refuse to watch the mess on principle.

I respected Piers until the last two episodes.

Maybe.. just MAYBE there is something in person with this guy. I will admit.. in person things can be different...

But on camera he is a twit.

Sorry Kevin.. turn the title over to Barbara.

  • Elizabeth - 15 years ago

Congratulations Kevin - you were our pick to win and we voted for you!! I would love to be in Vegas to hear you sing. Keep it up - you have such a unique sound - like Willie and Johnny - you will go a long, long way. We can't wait to buy a CD! Wishing you all good things and lots of success.

  • Roxanne - 15 years ago

Thank you Kim from Kentucky! Iam happy for Kevin, and proud of him.God takes care of people like him. That should give everyone something to think about.

  • Don - 15 years ago

OH Please! all of you tone deaf people who think Kevin Skinner can sing are ridiculous. I"m glad he's $1 million richer, but it's NOT because of his talent. When his record sales flop, you'll see.

  • Ruthie - 15 years ago

    america voted for Kevin Skinner
    I am happy he won
It was not because he told a sad story
we never heard any thing from him to feel sorry for him
Most great singers came from hardship areas
they never forget their humble beginnings
God Bless you Kevin, show every one that voted for you they made
the right choice. We believe in you.

  • scottash - 15 years ago

I think kevin skinner did a good job were from kentucky too and people think people down here anit nothing but old hillbillys and hasnt got any talent. I knew soon as kevin came on the show and said he was from kentucky people would start making fun of him but he proved people wrong now look what an old hillbilly can do haha also i like grandma lee.

  • John white - 15 years ago

I Can't help but feel tears in my eyes for this fantastic human Kevin your so real it's so nice to see a real Man Win all the rest as well to me are winners and will do well but like all contests there has to be a final winner and I BELIEVE FOR ONCE AMERICA GOT IT RIGHT CONGRADS TO YOU KEVIN I am a professional singer and felt you from the second you walked on stage stronger then any one of the contestants and so did America I WISH YOU NOTHING BUT GREAT SUCCESS KEVIN ,,BUT ALSO WISH THE TOP 10 AS WELL FOR IT WAS A FANTASTIC YEAR OF ENTERTAINMENT FROM ALL
KEVIN I WILL BE A FAN AS LONG AS YOUR OUT THERE SING US YOUR SONGS MAN ALL THE BEST AGAIN FROM CANADA

  • Maria - 15 years ago

I loved the show and I am glad Kevin won. Barbarba Padilla can sing, but I can't stand opera. I agree with the person who said they couldn't sit for 2 minutes listening to her sing. It's beautiful singing, if you like that kind of music , which I don't , it bores me.
I voted for Kevin, but I will have to say , I didn't vote for him in the finale.
I thought he sounded horrible , like he was in a bar singing , not on stage for a million dollars. And I agree, if I go to Vegas I don't want to listen to
someone crooning country music . I want to see magic or something
fun . He would do better in Nashville . I loved Grandma Lee , she
made me laugh . And the voices of glory, if someone should have won
on their story, it was them..

Very hard choice . Loved the Texas Tenors too. I don't think Kevin
won on the vocals, but America voted for him on his story, which is O.K.

I liked him more when I thought he was single. LOL

  • Moosewish - 15 years ago

I AM a fan of country music. Kevin wasn't singing (or his attempt at singing) anything that I would consider "Country". UGH! I am appalled that he won. I am in agreement with others that I wonder if the voting isn't rigged. He has no talent. How could he have possibly won??? I'm still in shock. The other finalists should be insulted (other then Gramma Lee who shouldn't have made it out of the auditions!) to think that their talent is not as good as Kevin!!! Texas Tenors, Re-cycled Percussion I would play plenty to see. Barbara has a wonderful voice, just not my style. Fab 5 were good, VOG and Lawrence Beaman were all good and I could understand ANY of them winning. Just a shame that this show really is a farce. Shame on them and hurting so many actually TALENTED folks with this choice.

  • jerry - 15 years ago

The judges many times said, the way to vote is to think about who you would like to see in a Vegas show. Kevin is good, but to carry a show no way. Of the finalist, the best ones to carry a Vegas Show is Recycled Percussion.
BUT !!!!!!!!!!!, the very best got voted out a couple of weeks ago. ACRO DUNK !!!!! That is a show that I could watch for an hour. So it should have been ACRO DUNK first, a close second to Recycled Percussion.

  • Gary - 15 years ago

I do not like opera or country. That has nothing to do with this. It is a talent show and Kevin did not desirve to win on that alone. What else can we all say? Why do we talk about his story. That has NOTHING to do with a talent show. I think we are all getting emotional about this when we really didn't have anything to do with him winning. It was the production work of AGT!! So be it, I won't watch again.

  • Karen - 15 years ago

Unbelievable. The judges made this happen by acting like Kevin was so amazing despite his background. They were trying to keep their ratings high by making the most of their "chicken catcher" story." I can't believe America fell for it. Is most of America tone deaf? And why would the normally buzz-happy Piers give Kevin a standing ovation on his final performance and then immediately afterward talk about how he was off-key and needs voice lessons?! Piers lacks integrity. The rest of the world must think we're idiots. It reminds me of when we elected George W. Bush a second time.

  • bergy - 15 years ago

I thought after the first audition that Kevin would win. After the second week I was sure he was history and back on the farm. He does have a heart felt story that could win over the hears of many. However, it was a talent show and Kevin "ain't got none" I'm sure the bookies are licking their wounds today in Vegas.

  • Debbie - 15 years ago

America DID get it right. As I posted elsewhere, Kevin represents the massive amount of unemployed in America right now and gives us hope. As Osbourne said, maybe he's not the best voice in the group, but look at others who have had great careers without the best voice....Johnny Cash for one. Of course, if you don't like country, then you're not going to like Kevin. Barbara did look like she expected to win and that was a bit disheartening. Of course, she's a bit more polished than Kevin as she's had formal training and has a master's degree. She will have a career with her talent as will most of the other top 10 finalists. And, that's more than they had before they tried out.

I applaud Kevin as he's proven that the American Dream is still alive. We all have to go out and find ours!

  • kitty - 15 years ago

I did like Kevin Skinner although he was FAR from the best. He sings from his heart. I hope that the other 9 acts especially Barbara, Lawrence, the Texas Tenors and the dancing sisters get offers.

The Voices of Glory should not be working in Las Vegas because their kids but hopefully get a recording contract in Gospel..Regardless of the efforts to make Vegas a family entertainment town, I think that its far "too adult."

I would like to see them compete more by catagory such as singers, dancers, comedians, magicians, etc. The finale should be the best

  • hasko - 15 years ago

Pleple like Skinner would make a world a better place. He is honest and sings from the heart...... You people can hate as much as you want, even if no one comes to see him perform >>>> HE'S GOT THE $ 1,000,000

  • Brenda - 15 years ago

The judges swayed America by persuading them to vote for the hillbilly! Bottom line. "Let's all vote for Skinner because the unemployment rate is so low, wouldn't this be great", blah. blah.
Bottom line. That hillbilly cannot sing, period. If you think he can you better get your ears checked.
I am a two time cancer survivor. That is not what this is about. Barbara, cancer survivor or not, is a superb singer. She is too good for this show. Maybe it's a blessing for her she didn't win. She doesn't belong in a trashy city, she belongs in opera houses around the world. Give the hillbilly his 25K per year for 40 years.(that's how they pay the 1M dollars out) That will help his unemployment. But I will bet his Vegas show will crash and burn. I would not pay 1 cent to see him. They would have to pay me, and then that would be a push!

  • BeAlSiO - 15 years ago

This poll is slanted on purpose. You have two negative responses and one positive. This dilutes the negatives and makes the positive appear to be in the lead. This poll is slanted just like the competition was slanted. Made the guy who could not carry a tune appear to be more talented than people who really have talent. Piers Morgan should be investigated to see what his take was on this outcome. A total travesty and we will not watch this show again.

  • disgusted viewer - 15 years ago

I like Kevin Skinner as a 'person' and I love country music. But come on folks... are you deaf?!?!? He cannot sing well at all! I had to turn down the volume when he came on because he was so off-key and flat. I agree his story is great, but there were other acts (not necessarily Barbara Padilla) that were a lot better than him. If this show was called 'America's got heart', then I could see him winning. But it's Americas got 'talent'... he has talent, but not enough to win a million dollars. The other top ten acts had far more talent than Kevin Skinner. What a disappointing ending to this show....

  • Lisa Foster - 15 years ago

"WAY TO GO KEVIN" I will come and see your show any chance I can. I will be looking forward to a CD too. I think all of the TOP TEN will go places. All of them are VEGAS material, but you are much more. I am a big Country Music Fan and you are just what they need. You are down to earth, honest, and pure. What you see is what you get. You should stand proud, and SMILE a little. Don't ever change, thats what makes you unique and stand out in a croud. I know you will go far. Please come to Kansas.

  • Anita - 15 years ago

Comments all seem to revolve around the final 2. We've got Idol if the show's about who sings the best. Barbara has a phenomenal voice - Kevin's is so so at best. Personally I'd walk out on a Vegas show if I had to listen to him for more than 5 minutes. He was voted in for his sweet weepy facade. End of story. There were far more talented folks even voted out early to assure a spot for the sad sack. Seems like a sweet guy, but show isn't called America's Got Sweethearts - it's about talent and who can carry a Vegas show - come on people. And to compare him to Waylon and Willie & Johnny Cash, etc. because he "doesn't sing very well but is unique" is an insult to those fabulously talented fellows. They are/were incredible songwriters who just happened to be able to sorta carry a tune. Skinner is just a guy who can sorta carry someone else's tunes. Half of all the bubbas down here in the great old south can do that. Congrats to him just being a good old boy that stole hearts - but there was absolutely nothing special about that boy as far as talent goes - NOTHING. You just voted in the underdog trying to look for America's Susan Boyle and failing miserably.

  • kevins fan - 15 years ago

WAY TO GO KEVIN YOU STOLE THE WHOLE SHOW

  • Jim Hubble - 15 years ago

OMG!!!!Never again will I ever watch this Americas got Talent. This is a complete farse. This man can't sing. I do a better job singing in the shower. At least my wife thinks I do. I was reading the comment from a saddened viewer who was a professional song writer from Nashville. You couldn't say it any better then he did. This man Kevin Skinner can't sing. People just felt sorry for him & wanted him to get the million dollars. He will never last in Vegas. I wouldn't pay $1.50 to go watch him. Barbara Pedilla was robbed. Now this lady has talent. That is the name of the show. AGT, not sorrow. The whole state of Ky. must have voted for him so they could put there state on the map as a AGT big time winner. Makes me sick. Barbara, you are the best talent on that show. You will go places & I will buy your cd when released. Kevin Skinner!!!!!!!!OMG, YUCK. the man can't sing. Simon Cowell, is this show rigged? I will never watch it again.

Congratulations Kevin!!! And to all of you who have a problem with country hicks, I'm here to let you know that although some of us are rednecked and country we are proud people and have more class and respect for other people than anyone else in the country. We are real people! I think Barbara
sang good for Opera, but.... I voted 3 times and Recycled percussion got one of my votes, Kevin got the other 2, I would have voted more but couldn't get through on the phone lines. So, there are people out there who voted and loved Kevin or otherwise he wouldn't have won!

  • Ruth - 15 years ago

You folks just don't get it! I guess you have to be a poor chicken catcher from Kentucky to know what singing from the heart means. I would not pay $100 in Vegas to hear opera. I would pay to hear Kevin Skinner. You have to live the life to be able to sing about it. You have to struggle to know heartache to sing about it. Patsy Cline was the greatest of all country music singers because she knew heartache and every time she sang you felt her pain. Willie Nelson, Johnny Cash, and other greats, not great voices, great hearts. Kevin, I am from Kentucky and I get it!!!

  • Kim - 15 years ago

To all of you that have talked down about people, shame on you. I live in Kentucky and take offense to people being so rude. I am sick and tired of Kentuckians being put down just because of where we live. We are a very proud state and love the fact that one of our small town guys actually made it. To all of you that don't live here you must also realize that we don't have alot of industry and our poverty level is tramendous. For just one of us to make it makes me feel so proud to live here. We may not have all the things that big city life brings but there is one thing we do have. The ability to keep it real!

  • Traci - 15 years ago

Kevin Skinner Yea BABY you know what good for him. I knew that they were not going to make another opera singer the winner dont get me wrong Niel E. Boyd was amazing and so was Barbara, But you know this guy was a chicken catcher and he does sing from the heart.Just like the old home is were the heart is he left his home and showed us that no matter what you are you can make your dreams come true and never gave up one step of the way.So to you kevin congrats and i hope to see you in Vegas when Im out there.

  • Sharon Robertson - 15 years ago

Congrats to Kevin and all the finalists. Kevin is truly a diamond in the rough. I love country music and have seen some not-so-perfect singers turn out to be super stars. Kevin has the potential to be a great entertainer; mostly he has the heart and soul of a true country boy.

  • GLORIA - 15 years ago

Kevin is a honest hard working man.and he won because of all his honesty. He was sencere, he did'nt take anything from anyone. He won because Godfs people are winners. The bible says blessed are the meek for they shall inherit the earth. Give him a break. People just can't stand to see honest people come out ahead anymore get a life people. THe bible also says make a joyful noise to the Lord it does'nt say be perfect. And even if he does'nt go on top of vages God sall him through so he could survive. We love you Kevin and keep singing from the heart is what matters not big put ons.You be you and you will go far please don't ever change. This was the best americas got talent ever and you people that don't watch it anymore your loss to bad so sad. Kevin you are what made it this years greatest. May God bless you and always keep you in his care. And I am very sure he will. love ya Kevin can't wait to buy a CD.

  • zad - 15 years ago

are you people deaf????? pathetic!!! Kevin Skinner was PAINFUL to listen to!! I turned off the volume!!! I'm a Recycled Percussion fan, and though disappointed they didnt win, finishing 3rd is respectable, but Skinner beating Padilla? Beating Drew Stevens? Beating Texas Tenors??? he won because of a STORY, not because of TALENT!!! There is always controversy in these shows, but this is the first time I have ever seen a total farce. someone HORRIBLE winning. he shouldnt have even been in top 10, his only performance that was any good was his first one, he got worse each and every performance after that. what did Pierce say Monday night? he was "flat"?

  • I must be seeing things - 15 years ago

The show is "America's Got Talent" not "American Idol". It is not a singing competition it is a "talent" show.Kevin may sing country songs but you are sadly mistaken if you try to compare him to Willie Nelson,Garth Brooks or Steven Tyler. LoL. I will sat that Kevin should win a competition between himself and The Hoff but he shouldn't have even been in the top 20.The show is a travesty and I won't be able to watch next season. It was hard enough to watch Paula on Idol, then came the Hoff"s [singing ?] and now this joke, I may have to unplug the TV . I fear what could be next.

  • JR - 15 years ago

Let me say congrats to Kevin. You were the right choice. You people who are going on about how bad he is probably did not even vote for anyone
There were many great acts this year..but why did the man and his dog stay as long as they did..Would never pay to go see them. That kind of stuff takes away from other talent that could still be in. I do believe that there should be a minimum age requirement for the show. Some of these kids, though they are good, would not have the money by the time they are adults because it went to the parents instead.

  • Iowa Girl - 15 years ago

Congratulations Kevin.. You have won the hearts of America with your heartfelt way.. I wish you much success..

To all the whinners.. get over it.. The finalists all will have deals regardless. Barbara was wonderful and will go very far.. So will Drew and Lawrence..and The Voices of Glory..Lets calm down folks this was a pleasant distraction for the summer and a wonderful American Story.. Lets let him enjoy his success ok?

  • Did I Hear Correctly? - 15 years ago

First of all, you obviously don't have to have talent to be able to judge a talent show.(H O F F !!!) I don't believe you have to be a fan of opera to appreciate the huge talent of Barbara, either. The show is a joke. There were others that were voted off weeks ago that were better than the chicken chaser.I am forced to believe that the show is rigged otherwise I have to believe that the American people are blind and stupid.

  • Barbara - 15 years ago

Congrats Kevin way to go... you were our choice to win and I am not ashamed to say that. Did people tell Willie Nelson that he can't sing Probably!!
Think about this. Every person on that show starts out with a sob story. They all come from somewhere, with a dream they are trying to persue. I like country music, besides the other music I listen to. Last years winner was an Opera singer, do we hear anything about him? Not a word. In fact they did not bring him on the show to perform this year which we have seen in the past.
Can't wait for a CD Kevin and come to NJ to perform we will be waiting to go see you. America did get it right this year!!!!!!!!!!!

  • barfing - 15 years ago

I can't believe Kevin Skinner won. I DVRd Monday night's show and had to fast forward thru his perfomance because it was so horrible to listen to. He can't carry a tune at all. I was hoping Recycled Percussion or Fab 5 would win (I can't believe Fab 5 was not in the top 5) --- those are two acts who are talented and can sustain a Vegas show. I think any of the top 10 acts (besides Kevin Skinner) will go far. They are all much more talented than Kevin Skinner. He's a nice guy with a nice story, but really - he does not have talent as a singer.

  • Ron L - 15 years ago

Oh, like you people are a great judge of talent, more like you Kevin Skinner haters are pathetic! I didnt see any of you loud mouth LOSERS showing any talent on stage other then complaing here, lol? Opera so sucks & is boring and we had an overweight Gay guy win last season that sang opera, & The Texas Tenors PLEASE gimme a break.....they're beyond cheesy they're ridiculous! Stop your crying out there & just SHUT-UP! Congrats Kevin......

  • Chickenchaser - 15 years ago

A million dollars should go a long way in the trailer park.

  • moira dean - 15 years ago

I wanted the Texas Tenors to win - but Kevin was my best choice - barbara is a great singer, but with no "saleability" chart wise. Bless, her she will make money, but the Tenors will make a fortune.

  • steve - 15 years ago

an opinion can't be wrong because it's just that, an opinion... BUT what i offer is NOT an opinion... i'm retired from the music biz now and although this sounds cocky i'm pretty sure i have a better ear than any of the judges... i was sitting in another room as my wife watched a re-run of Skinner singing "you were always on my mind" and he was so off key it wasn't funny... i like the guy (which proves this is a popularity contest more than a talent contest) but as far as being a good singer, he's not even close... i'm sure the producers will get him coaches and training before they let him go out and embarrass himself and the show...

  • A Saddened Viewer... - 15 years ago

I'm a professional songwriter in Nashville and let me assure you that Kevin Skinner IS A MEDEOCRE VOCALIST. (Meaning: he can't sing folks-) If he were to come here for a record deal we would put him back on the bus. We would laugh as we did it too. I work with litterally DOZENS of session singers (struggling hopefuls who sing on demo tapes for others) who crush Kevin Skinner's voice into DUST. I have had 100's of friends come and go from this town over the past 10 years that have sang on my livingroom couch that are 1,000 times more deserving of that prize because they have TALENT. They can SING, they can PERFORM, they can move people to TEARS, most of them can even WRITE. This man winning this contest is the SCAM OF ALL SCAMS. Who cares how nice he is, or where he came from, or how many chickens he chased. This is a Talent show, (or so they claim) and this man can't sing OR PLAY at a professional level. He is the kind of vocalist that would have been in the blooper reel of American Idol, and you damn well know that's a FACT. So how did he win American's votes? (ponder that one for a second) Maybe one of these days we will all wake up and realize that the reality shows are laughing at us.

  • Mary Gragg - 15 years ago

What a disappointment! Barbara was robbed! I really don't like opera but she is 1000 times more talented than Kevin.

  • illynoisemom - 15 years ago

Kevin Skinner was the LEAST talented of the finalists, and Las Vegas will realize that when no one comes to see his show. I probably won't be watching AGT any more. All I can say is, he must have a LOT of friends and relatives, because I don't know anyone who would vote for him...

  • Gary Lee Mills - 15 years ago

I am embarassed, if out of 100,000 contestants we could come up with Kevin. The story was great, but remember the is a TALENT CONTEST !!! There were many acts that had more talent than Kevin, I'm sorry I watched it. The results were like it was written by AGT instead of America voting!

  • marlyn - 15 years ago

    Congrats Kevin
    Please do not change
    You sing with such feelings
    You totally deserved this win
I shall certainly love to see your show and will definetly buy your albums
    God Bless

  • Greg Bratton - 15 years ago

Kevin skinner sucked and that is all there is too it. He was good in the audition and sort of on key during the second performance. However, the finales were a joke as far as I am concerned. He was off key, off beat and out classed. It is a shame that this man won. Lets all listen to his sob story that the producers put together through editing and vote not on his talent but to give him a second chance. He is a chicken catcher not a singer and it was evident while listening to his most recent performance.

However, you could see it coming if you paid attention; Pierce was actually cheering him on after his second performance. He should not be the winner and I wish there was a way to check the actual numbers on these shows run by Simon. It was proven earlier in the season that the producers are manipulating the performances; I would not put it past them to manipulate the votes.

Another viewer now gone from the this show. I wont watch it again.

  • Forrest Gumpworsley - 15 years ago

Kevin Skinner's show will fold within 6 months! He's a nice guy, but his voice is like finger nails on a chalk board! No way Las Vegas visitors will pay 100 bucks to hear a cat stuck in the spokes of a bicycle tire!

Planet Hollywood will probably bring the Texas Tenors in to fill the void!

  • Matt - 15 years ago

It's just proof that any no talent hick can sing country music. Garbage. The guy couldn't carry a tune in a bucket. He wasn't bad when he sang the Garth Brooks cover when he tried out, but after that he just got worse and worse. There were way better singers on that stage. Who is going to pay top dollar to see this chicken chaser in Vegas? I wouldn't pay a $5 cover charge at the local bar to listen to him.

  • Lacy - 15 years ago

I just love that chicken catcher!!! What a hottie!!!

  • Vern - 15 years ago

I was personally hoping for recyled percussion, i could watch them in a vegas show, lawrence beaman was the new barry white, barbara padilla is an amazing singer and will succeed. Kevin Skinner was okay but his real appeal is he is just a plain good hearted singer. Not the best but you like him. Di the best performer win, no, did a good guy win , i think so.

  • Capt Gord - 15 years ago

All I can say is, wow!! Season 4 of AGT was certainly a season full of surprises and let-downs. Why should the finale be any different I guess?

When I saw Acro Dunk let go and that Cooney Island sideshow Bob guy stay in the competition, I knew this was going to be a very messed up Top 10 and finale. I had Barbara pegged to be the winner from the get go. She was simply fantastic right out of the gate. Not just because of her story....but because she was talented!! Very talented. But to see her lose to Kevin Skinner is just sad. It's actually sad to see that he made it to the top 2. Yes....Kevin has a lot of heart. Heck, I have a lot of heart too, but that doesn't make me a better singer! There's no way that "Voices of Glory", nor "Lawrence Beamin" should have been let go before Kevin Skinner. I would even go as far to say that "The Fab 5" ladies should have outlasted him. They were different and I would have paid money to go see their show for sure. But unfortunately, I highly doubt Vegas will make much money on Kevin Skinner. He certainly isn't going to be a success story like Terry Fator. Like Billy Ray Cyrus...Kevin will be a one hit...err...show wonder. I hope he milks this for all it's worth. Good for him for taking the title.

However the case may be.... America.....you got it wrong! Vote on talent, not sympathy.

  • RON - 15 years ago

COME ON PEOPLE, STOP HATIN & BEIN WHINERS!! KEVIN IS TALENTED & WILL DO FINE IN LAS VEGAS! I COULDNT SIT STILL FOR 2 MINUTES LISTENING TO BARBARA PADILLA SING OPERA......THATS TORTURE LIKE HAVING ALL YOUR TEETH PULLED OUT & ITS VERY BORING!! SHE IS GOOD LOOKING, 1 OUT OF 2 ISNT BAD.......

  • ronstress - 15 years ago

Congratulations Kevin and Barbara! I certainly am happy with the outcomes. Barabara has a beautiful voice, and she will be successful regardless. I am so pleased with her, and I must say she is a gracious and beautiful lady. Success is in the bag for her. I am pleased for Kevin, and I wish him such joy. I hope he can do some lovely things for his family, and that they can enjoy a life of luxury and musical success. One thing is for sure, I don't think it is right to talk negatively about ANY contestant. Let them enjoy their time. Stop criticizing!!!

  • Ron Garvey - 15 years ago

KEVIN, THIS IS RON GARVEY FROM GOSHEN, INDIANA......I JUST WANTED TO SAY CONGRATS ON WINNING THE SHOW!! I HAVE & WILL NEVER BE A FAN OF COUNTRY MUSIC, BUT YOUR HUMILITY & JUST LIKEABLE SMALL TOWN CHARM WON US ALL OVER & YOU HAVE A PRETTY DECENT VOICE THAT WILL TAKE YOU FAR!! YOUR LIFE WILL DEFINATELY NEVER BE THE SAME, JUST REMEMBER TO CONTINUE TO KEEP IT REAL CAUSE THATS WHAT MADE PEOPLE CONNECT WITH YOU & YOUR MODESTY! LIKE DAVID HASSLEHOFF SAID....."YOU ARE WHAT THIS SHOW IS ABOUT"! IT WAS A PLEASURE TO WATCH YOU EVERY WEEK, GOOD LUCK WITH THE MONEY & YOUR FUTURE! GOD BLESS YOU & YOUR FAMILY.......

  • CB from Baltimore - 15 years ago

Voted for Barbara - LOVE YOU BARBARA. Your voice gives me goosebumps. I'll be watching for your debut CD which I'm sure will happen. I don't even listen to opera, but I'll buy your music. You'll make your first million and many more after Kevin Skinner's first million is long gone. I'm happy for Kevin and his family, but I really don't know how he'll sell any tickets in Vegas. It's embarrassing - they'll have to give away the tickets to fill up the seats.

  • Cynde Kong - 15 years ago

I couldn't believe that Kevin won. Voice lessons will help him, I'm sure. Barbara will go onto bigger and better things so will Drew . I personally voted for Texas Tenors. I kept thinking - who could I listen to in Vegas for 90 minutes? I would have never ever watched the show again if Grandma Lee had won.

  • Lindsay - 15 years ago

Not a big suprise that kevin won but i want to know the people who voted for him based on his "talent" everyone has a sob story and if we were voting on sob stories it should have been barbrai think cancer is a little bit harder to live with than catching chickens. and if america would have voted based on talent it should STILL HAVE BEEN barbra. Does anyone really think that kevin even slightly compares to her voice hell no!

  • gariel pena - 15 years ago

big fan from brownsville tx. because you sing with heart is why you stole many hearts. i liked the way you left everyones mouth open with your first song (if tommorow never comes). people say ,never judge a book by its cover ,and its true. ill try to keep track of what comes next ,as a fan. i guess you know who i voted for. good luck and god bless ,from a fan in brownsville tx.

  • Dave - 15 years ago

What a complete embarrassment! Kevin Skinner's only solid performance was in the audition. Every song subsequent to that was an absolute farce. Flat, out of tune, over produced, garbage. I guess the slack jawed yokels win again. America, you should be ashamed tonight because you proved just how backward you've become. I feel sorry for you...

  • jaxster - 15 years ago

i think this year was such a joke! in fact i watched every show you ever had and now i doubt i will ever have any more interest in your pissy pity given show. i loved the judges and all the remarks given. i really did love watching it. but now i got the feeling that this is no more then a show that pickes the biggest loser involved and pass him/her on. by the way i push calves into the sale ring at a public auction for 20.00 bucks. can i get a chance to win amerca's got talent?i got all kinds of sob stories for you . but i never caught chickens for a living. guess i should have. you folks dumped so much better talent. well i think you folks really blew it . but who am i? a dam calf pusher

  • Kimmie - 15 years ago

I am sorry but the only reason Kevin won was because of his 'story'. He has no talent what so ever. I think either the three guys or Barbara should have won. Who is going to go see a redneck hillbilly in vegas... not me. I want to see somebody intertaining, not some sad ol' song. but good for him

  • Gagging - 15 years ago

OMG! Kevin Skinner??!!! Is everyone freakin deaf? Sad, sad day if that is what we call Talent in America. My 8 and 10 y/o vowed to never watch the show again. Even they know talent, and lack thereof, when they see it.

  • Anonymous - 15 years ago

I knew that Barbara and Kevin would be the final two. But I was sure that Barbara would win. Kevin is a good singer - not great, but still okay. It is nothing compared to Barbara's voice, though. She has a powerful, soothing voice, and her performances are amazing. Susan Boyle was a runner-up and she got more fame than the winner of Britain's Got Talent, so I imagine that Barbara would also get lots of glory. On a final note: You go, Barbara!
