America is the best country and nation on this planet, and this is a matter of opinion to some, but for me, fact.

However, what good is this country to a child, who has no passion for it nor the understanding of what the difference is between our country versus all other countries.

I remember when I was young, that it seemed dumb to say the pledge of allegiance. Not because I hated my country, but because as a kid, I didn't know how great and awesome this country was.

I didn't know as a kid, what all my nation stood for. I didn't know as a kid what other nations were like compared to ours. I did not have the respect and value for this country as a kid like I do now.

As a kid, I just wanted to play and have fun. Some kids like history, some find it boring. But then that could just be the teacher :p

Making our children say the pledge of allegiance without them understanding the value, importance, heritage, etc of our country is useless. So if a child does not understand it, then who cares if they say it. To say something you don't fully respect and understand is pointless.

If I make my children coming home from school say,

"I pledge allegiance to my mom and dad, of the united walls of our house, and to the foundation on which it stands, one roof under God, protecting, with peace and warmth for all"

If they understand what they are saying, value it, cherish it, and believe in it, then instead of just being told to say it, they will want to recite it, because to them, it is important and awesome!

That actually is not so bad of a saying! lol. Feel free to use any anyone. :D

I think it is time to teach REAL American history again. Most kids really don't know what that pledge means. I am proud to say, My grade school days were FILLED with American history. You never had a chance to NOT know what that flag meant. I am speaking from grade 3 onward. I honestly knew what we had and sacraficed for in this country. I knew what communism was and what it meant. I knew that flag represented things bigger than I could ever imagine. I was taught to be proud of what it stood for, and I WAS! I am so happy my younger years of learning happened in the early 70's when all this crap wasn't being played in our schools. It is no wonder we are churning out dumbed down people who have no clue... that flag is just a piece of cloth hanging on the wall to them. To everyone who has, or is serving our country to protect that cloth.. I say thank you! I will pledge to the American flag anytime, anywhere! I for one know what it stands for. God Bless the United States of America!

Real Americans know their constitutional rights and applaud when children receive that information. If you love America, you love the constitution and by understanding and upholding that document, you show far more loyalty than by reciting a stupid pledge.
