This crazy spending has been going on for decades, does not matter which "party" is controlling it. Having the 2 parties makes us what we are, America. Obviously there are MANY spending issues and it doesn't matter whether it is Dem or Rep. What can be done by the American citizen? Most of the posts are cat fights between Dem or Rep? Can ther be more contructive posts for people to really think about?

How is it that $201 million for a school is not the highest voted one? It is $184 million than all the rest combined!!! Oh yeah, political extremists can't vote for the right one even if they know it's right just because their stupid beliefs.

Stimulus funds are going to be used to resurface the concrete in our creeks here in Santa Barbara so fish can travel downstream more naturally. I can think of a lot of people that would like to be thought of as well as those fish.

There should also be a "lifetime achievement" award for Robert Byrd and Jay Rockefeller of West Virginia. Look up the Center for Tax Policy's report on how much federal money each state receives vs. how much they pay in taxes. West Virginia is consistently one of the worst. And states with productive economies like New York, Texas, and California get screwed. In fact, now that California is having a state budget crisis, I think they should make Byrd and Rockefeller pay back all they money they've been siphoning away from CA taxpayers all these years. I want to see the Governator land his chopper in Charleston WV screaming "GIVE ME BACK MY MONEY!!!".

Does one not understand the consequences of not saving certain wildlife? Our sea is already in danger due to the destruction of the Coral Reef. I agree we could use college students. But where are the college kids going to get money to fly to Hawaii and live during their scheduled monitoring. The money to Mississippi is for the Hospital, the dairy farms, if not profitable enough may shut down. Allowing for more profitability would allow for more money to be spent on more jobs through the dairy industry, and possibly reduce or maintain the price for dairy products. Maritime Domain Awareness is defined as the effective understanding of anything associated with the maritime domain that could impact the security, safety, economy, or environment. These are things that not a single organization can address. Its much like the internet. I believe there should be invested in it as well. It is working on dated technology, and with its approval comes bigger scientific discoveries and economic growth. I am an independent. Would have voted for Ron Paul if he were on the ballot. This is about the future.

  • Jim G - 15 years ago

I am for "Voter Enforced Term Limits in 2010 and beyond". This will begin the process of taking this country back from the likes of Pelosi, Reid, Obama, Rangel, Frank, Spector and the rest of them. If the people do not stop voting in these thugs, we will never see true CHANGE.

  • John - 15 years ago

Though a lot of these earmarks are ridiculous, the worst one isn't the most expensive one, since most of these others in one form or another do require people who need jobs. The Mississippi Biotechnology Association building -- an organization that has no members and doesn't exist, and that got $450,000 last year and is getting another 750K....this is blatant stealing....if this is allowed, why can't we just walk into a bank a just take that money ourselves? Why isn't Thad Cochran being brought up on felony charges, all this money is going to this scum and anyone else he has to pay off to keep their mouths shut while they pocket it for doing nothing....unless being a professional scam and con artist is a legal job now.

Where is the several million dollars to study the correlation between Brizillian gays and alcohol consumption? That one is the worst thing I have ever heard. it makes money of maritime awareness look valid!

  • David Matzen - 15 years ago

Murtha's "airport" should be on the list as well. These "representatives" are not only irresponsible, some of them are plainly STUPID and I can only look at their constituents for the cause!

I love how they said this morining that the national debt was growing by 1 billion dollars every 5 weeks. I don't know about the rest of you but my bank won't let me write checks when I am already "OVERDRAWN" !!!! Stop spending my money!!!

  • Casey - 15 years ago

Depending on what the money was ACCTUALY used for, the dairy farms deal is a life a death deal. My uncle runs our family's 7th generation dairy farm, and he's about to loose it because the GOVERNMENT sets the price the farmers can sell milk. The price is currently around $15 per 100 lbs and for an average farmer to break even (meaning $0 profit) they need $22 per 100 lbs.

  • Jeff - 15 years ago

tjk, good point. We spent billions on over-priced weapons that don't work, billions more on the wrong technology to fight current and future wars, but a couple millions for science and education is wasteful.

  • kathleen - 15 years ago

As far as i'm concerned, one is as bad as the other with none being worse than another. they are all a waste of taxpayer's heard earned money and i feel that, in this ecomony, with so many people being out of work, this is the same thing as stealing from the American public. One of the biggest wastes of taxpayer's money is paying all of thos idiots in congressm both democrat and republican alike. let them try to live on what the average American earns, if lucky enough to have a job.

  • MaryAnne B. Phillips - 15 years ago

Every big spender should be voted out of office. I believe that all earmarks that benefit only a state and not the whole of the United States should only be financed by that particular state's revunues, not that of the federal government.

  • tjk - 15 years ago

    Joe,
    You are correct.
It is the U.S. Military that is sucking away most of that $$$ (well over 1/2 TRILLION)..........and you know what a mess Government run operations are!!!!
    Get rid of it.

    Save us taxpayers!!
I'm tired of these SOCIALIST institutions that don't work!!!!

Hire your own militia if you are tht afraid......

    FROM Wikipedia:
The 2005 U.S. military budget is almost as much as the rest of the world's defense spending combined and is over eight times larger than the military budget of China (compared at the nominal US dollar / Renminbi rate, not the PPP rate). The United States and its close allies are responsible for about two-thirds of the world's military spending (of which, in turn, the U.S. is responsible for the majority). In 2007, US military spending was above 1/4 of combined industrial and agricultural production in the USA.

  • Joe - 15 years ago

While the spending on many of these earmarks may be of dubious value it should be noted that all congressional earmarks combined (about $17 billion)equal less than 1% (yes, one percent) of the total federal budget. If someone is really concered about federal spending and you want to affect real change, focusing on earmarks is not going to do it.

Do not allow yourself to be distracted from the other 99%. The problem with the size of the federal budget is not the result of earmarks.

  • tjk - 15 years ago

    Yep........Cochran is a REPUBLICAN.
Considering there are only 40 of them in the Senate one would think they could get it correct.
Unless that is what the snivelling liars at FOX want.
Put him in the correct party and I bet the count will stop going up.

At FOX it is never about the FACTS.

  • Jeff - 15 years ago

Disgusted, was that it sponsored by SC governor Mark Sanford? :)

  • Disgusted American - 15 years ago

There is ONE earmark that did NOT make the list - the $$ that is going to South America - Brazil? to study prostitutes. What insane congressman
thought that one up?? Feed the hungry here in the USA before sending overseas!! And believe me- there is NO differance between a Democrat or a Rebulican earmark. The whole "gang" on the hill needs to be taken OUT!!

  • Intelligent Conservative - 15 years ago

Good catch allel33, didn't even noticed they got the amount way off too.

  • Intelligent Conservative - 15 years ago

Haha, I posted misinformation and only Mojopie got it.

Faux News still hasn't corrected that Thad Cochran (the worst offender) is a REPUBLICAN!

  • allel33 - 15 years ago

Was Cochran's $201 to the Univ. of Miss. $201 MILLION or $201 dollars? It might have received more votes if it had been printed like the others listed. Very poorly presented, especially if Cochran should have been listed as a Republican.

  • mojopie - 15 years ago

Hey Texas, it was ACORN that turned in the 11 people that commited the voter fraud in their ranks, they did it before the authorities even knew about it, get your facts straight.

  • Eric Bystrom - 15 years ago

"All of these earmarks are unbelievable. What really gets to me is that they will probably get all they ask for."
Obama bragged to the AFL-CIO picnic on Sunday that they passed the "stimulus" bill with NO earmarks! I think there were close to 9,000 of them.

  • ttm - 15 years ago

We need term limits and we need to eliminate retirement benefits for politicians. That would save tons of money and politicians would not have time to build up the enormous platforms of influence that allow them to pull off these ridiculous deals. Of course, to do either of those things, first we'll have to vote out all of the currently entrenched long-timers.......

  • Eric Bystrom - 15 years ago

I second rob t. Nancy's mouse should have been on the list.

  • V - 15 years ago

Maybe the payer, the taxpayer, should get to vote on the projects we want to pay for, not Congress, who feeds from the hands of the wealthy lobbyists and the wealthy campaign donators.

  • DWayne - 15 years ago

The worst earmark is paying our elected officals to come up with crap like this and have taxpayers pay for it.

  • Texas - 15 years ago

There is a famous picture of LBJ’s friends holding a ballot box that disappeared just before its results could be confirmed. Today we have ACORN registering Paul Newman to vote after he died and even NFL team memberss from other states. Deals are made by politicians in exchange for campaign contributions (bribes). This is all organized crime and 100% of the members of the executive and congressional branches should go to jail. That would be a perfect 1776 version 2.0 and the only possible cure for this corruption.

  • Kimo - 15 years ago

Another fine example of why President Obama is wrong when he tells us not to worry abou the details. The details are what bite us taxpayers in the behind.

  • mojopie - 15 years ago

"Intelligent Conservative," your name is an oximoron!!

  • Lola Sullivan - 15 years ago

I think they should all be voted out of office, and when they leave, we shouldn't still have to pay their salary and take care of them just because they served in the senate or congress. If we are going to give anyone raises it should be our military. They are so corrupt and should have term limits, and save for their own retirement just like the rest of us. They should also have to pay into Social Security and Medicare and live on it just like the rest of us. They shouldn't have any special treatment while in the employment of the government. They think the money that is paid in taxes is all theirs to spend as they see fit. What we need to do is quit paying taxes and see how they like that. Every State should be able to take care of themselves, then we could eliminate almost all the greed and corruption.Oh yes, Pelosi and Reid need to crawl back into the hole they crawled out of. If they had any sense at all they sould realize that this country should be run like a business, and to make money, they have to save money. They don't have the foggiest idea that our service men and women are fighting to save their asses and give them the freedoms that they have. One last thing, If anyone doesn't like this country, or like Obama, has to go around apologizing for AMERICA, they should leave this country.

  • Mojopie - 15 years ago

How convienient you left the $439 million to restore barrier islands off the Mississippi coast that Sen. Thad Cochran off the poll. Just more proof the republiCANTS are losing their grasp on reality. They have to resort to biasing polls just to make themselves look better. Pathetic!!!

  • gorkey - 15 years ago

Another lie from Obama,"No more PORK" How long are we going to let these jerks spend and spend and then call for more taxing the rich to pay for it! It's time to STOP the spending and it's up to us to STOP them.

  • Christine - 15 years ago

$201 to the University of Mississippi - really??? There is no one working on these polls that thought there might be a few zeros missing?

  • Intelligent Conservative - 15 years ago

Is it any surprise 3 out of 4 (and the worst offender) are democrats?

  • Ben Reynolds - 15 years ago

This is why I believe state taxes should be the main tax and fed taxes should be like state. That way the states generating the most taxes can decide themselves what to do with it. Instead we are dependent on the federal government to assist with all these projects. If we can't afford it then it should not be done....PERIOD....

  • Richard Mitts - 15 years ago

The first thing they need to do is freeze their salaries. Next, limit their terms to 4 years. Replace all the incumbents with new blood. The change Obama has offered is not change but a renewal of old democrat programs that failed in the past because the people didn't want them then and don't want them now.

  • Smokey447 - 15 years ago

Can't forget Piglosi, but my vote goes to Reid and his high speed rail from Las Vegas to L.A. (got to get those gamblers to the tables) and to heck with the rest of the American voters.

  • Stephen Riley - 15 years ago

    I like this one too!

$4,270,000 for six projects by House Interior Appropriations Subcommittee Chairman Norm Dicks (D-Wash.), including: $800,000 for the Gig Harbor Fish Passage; $500,000 for the Tacoma-Seattle Urban Forest; $270,000 for the Hood Canal Dissolved Oxygen Study; and $200,000 for Mason County Courthouse restoration.

  • Stephen Riley - 15 years ago

$25,581,500 for 16 projects by then-House Energy and Water Appropriations Subcommittee Ranking Member David Hobson (R-Ohio), including: $2,000,000 for environmental infrastructure at Springfield Hospital; $1,427,250 for Wilberforce University; $1,000,000 for Ohio environmental infrastructure along Route 41 in Prime; $951,500 for the biorefining for energy security project at Ohio University-Lancaster; $951,500 for science education facility renovations at Ohio Christian University; and $500,000 for Ohio environmental infrastructure in Upper Hocking.

  • textom - 15 years ago

voted for the Rep pork because he should know better.

  • C Davis - 15 years ago

I feel all of congress should be fired. All of the above should be trashed. I would like a complete new Washington. All political positions in this country should be filled with new people. I think the top dog should be deported.

  • george m. - 15 years ago

How do we stop this? I agree, Congress needs to be fired. When elections roll around again we have to vote all incumbents OUT!!! That's the only way we can win back our vote. We could start a wave of support to vote them all out next time they run. I don't care if Mickey Mouse is running against them. Once they're gone we can pass laws to take away all their entitlements and bar lobbyists. What they have been doing is criminal. We need a good slogan. Any ideas?

  • Ed Coyne - 15 years ago

This poll looks like it was written by a 4th grader. "Not of the above", "Sen. Cochran (D-Miss.)"? Really?

  • Patrick Passarelli - 15 years ago

All of these earmarks are unbelievable. What really gets to me is that they will probably get all they ask for. This really has got to stop, the only way to do that is by voting them out of office. America it is time for a change and I most certainly don't mean Obama and his gang of thieves. Lets get new blood in there, people who really care about how the country is being run. Lets get back to what this country really stood for and what our founding fathers had hoped it would be. STop the uncontrolled spending.

  • L Johnson - 15 years ago

Why does Senator Cochran have a 'D' next to his name rather than an 'R'? Why does this keep happening at Fox News?

  • JPK - 15 years ago

    You forgot Piglossi!

  • rob t - 15 years ago

Wheres the one about Nancy Pelosis $16 million to the bay area marsh mouse? I think thats the winner

  • DON ROSEEN - 15 years ago

Quit spending money we dont have! My two sons wont be able to afford it. Please!

  • Wes Day - 15 years ago

proof that our country is going to down the toilet! Congress needs to be fired! Bring in the college students to do the work for a free education and don't allow any "Lobbyist" to give anyone a dime! They our taxing our social security now, but have the nerve to spend billions of tax payer dollars and also vote themselves a raise?????? WTF???????????????
