I read the menu of classroom activities for President Obama's message to students. Everyone should read this before coming to a conclusion of their decision to allow their kids to watch it or not. They would see it has no political agenda. Just a speech to encourage students to think about their education for their future's sake. What parent who has real concern for their childs educational future would not regard this as a positive thing? It is the republicans trying to make it political. This I say, while being a registered republican. Why does everything one party does have to become a partison issue, by the other. Are we so different we cannot come together for one good idea? I could see "President" McCain doing something very similar, with the same response by the democrats and republicans applauding him. Politics make me sick.
I really don't recall any previous President who spoke to the school kids asking them to write papers on how they plan to support the President's agenda. If previous Presidents did that I sure don't remember it at all. If Junior (I mean Obama) was simply encouraging kids to stay in school, that would be just fine. But asking kids to support his agenda, including writing essays for submission to him is politicizing, which is flat out wrong.
If it's OK for Obama to give a speech to schoolkids, why did the Dems protest so loudly when Bush 41 did it in 1991 to the point that they called Congressional Hearings into the outrageous conduct by Bush I? See this link for details:
