Will you keep your kids away from Obama's education speech?

What has America come to? Read these past comments. Listen to yourselves. Obama isn't dividing our nation..We're dividing our nation. Who CARES if someone doesn't want their child to hear a speech? It's not a big deal.
I go now with one comment.
    Pray.

  • "white entitlement" - 15 years ago

WOW DEB, I guess your the spokeswoman for the white race now or just most, because I could say that, (al and his "sick racist" remarks) seemingly could be taken as, what you would love to refer to as the "race card". So I guess it only works when it satisfies a "white" need. BUT I guess within everything I wrote you only saw RACE, but failed to acknowledge the Educational, failing aspects of my comment, to me it sounds like your a puppet of the Fear Mongering Machine, "Please.... before it's too late.", sounds MIGHTY WHITE OF YOU.

  • al - 15 years ago

Obama you communist STAY AWAY for our children. I will NOT allow my daughter to listen to all your lies. You are a sick racist, communist and you should be thrown out of office with all your sick, racist croanies. America, the fight has only begun. They have awakened a sleeping giant

  • deb - 15 years ago

The racism card doesn't work any more folks.... We see right through it. The truth is, if Obama was as lily white as his mama, we would still be against his beliefs. Most white people would gladly vote for any black man that upheld the principles this country was founded on. Please open your eyes to what is really going on here before it's too late.

  • "white entitlement" is already in your child - 15 years ago

I guess Reagan was a socialist!!!!!! He spoke to the nation's schoolchildren. -------------The ignorance of Americans is why we're failing in education compared to the world, our children are fat and unhealthy, universities are having problems with student cheating and their buying their papers from students overseas, they possess no critical thinking, they feel everything should be handed to them, they don't want to work because of this sense of "white entitlement", they're increasingly becoming addicts, alcoholics and prescription drug junkies at younger ages, and the hate they get from their parents have allowed to their self-destruction. African immigrants are surpassing our youth in education and YES, even the asian americans.

  • Lady in Red - 15 years ago

I have read the curriculum and it appears to be "harmless" except for the fact that the questions posed to the children are leading, assuming that the children are "inspired" and that Obama "resonates with them...etc." They are asked how they will "help" the president.

Frankly, I am extremely concerned with the direction this administration is heading. Obama has done and said far too many troubling things, launched his political career in the living room of an American terrorist. He voted against the protection and medical care of babies born alive during an abortion. Not only has he associated himself with the likes of Bill Ayers, a racist, anti-American "spiritual advisor, Acorn, FOCA(the list is too long for this post) but he is destroying our country from the inside out. He has singlehandedly destroyed our economy with astronomical debt. He is replacing our troops with an ever increasing number of defense contractors. He is placing Guan.bay terrorists into both foreign and domestic prisons. Obama has Completely bypassed the Constitution and appointing unelected radicals to positions of extreme power and taxpayer money which our grandchildren will be paying back to countries like China.

I'm sick of hearing people whine about how he inherited a bad economy and war from Pres. Bush. Obama has made every single issue inconceivably worse!

I dont' trust the government to provide the most basic and affordable heathcare, no matter who is in office, but I certainly do not trust the current government to have increasing control over our very lives.

How could I possibly trust the current "president" of the United States to speak to my children when I wouldn't want them to be in the same room with him?

When Obama won the election I was supportive, hoped for the best, that my concerns were wrong. While my husband is fighting a WAR on Terror, our Constitution is being ripped to shreds, the free market, our rights, any remainder of economic stability is being taken away by the wolf in sheep's clothing and his radical agenda full of radical men and women.

I don't recall ever electing a Communist Green Czar into power. This is nothing short of a political coup and we're letting it happen. STAND UP AMERICA ! Stop treating politics as if the Republicans and Democrats are rival football teams. LOOK AT WHAT IS HAPPENING AND USE SOME COMMON SENSE! This is no longer the "democratic" party. Obama has changed the ballgame.

Peaceful Protest. Not only would I refuse to allow my children to hear a politically biased, unquestioned speech from the President, I would keep them out of school and organize a protest.

  • Bonnie - 15 years ago

Well looking at the results of this poll, it can't be just republicans who are outraged.

Will you keep your kids away from Obama's education speech?

    Yes. 87% (53,753 votes)

    No. 10% (5,992 votes)

    I'm not sure. 4% (2,300 votes)

  • Wendy - 15 years ago

Why are we even talking about showing this speech in school? Other presidential speeches haven't been. So why is this guy's speech so special? Yes, other presidents have visited schools but their public televised speeches weren't shown in the schools. It wouldn't have even been an idea. It is not the school's responsibility to decide whether the children should watch his speech and be indoctrinated. Politics should be taught at home. You tell the child what you believe and then you also tell the child what the other side believes and when he/she comes of age let him/her decide for themself. If they can't teach christianity and creation in schools, they shouldn't be shoving this stuff down the children's throats. Period. It's not racism. It's common sense. And by the way...you can keep the "change". I'd rather keep my freedom

  • Meghan - 15 years ago

On another note, missing one day of school is not going to screw up your child's ongoing education... one day is acceptable to me, specially when it has to do with something like this... I'll keep my child home and brainwash him myself... no need to have the president do it...

  • Meghan - 15 years ago

I am willing to bet that this is not just another republican/democrat fight... I'm willing to bet that there are more democrats opting to keep their kids out of school on the 8th than some may believe... bottom line, this is wrong... and the reaction from my son's teacher when she was told about his upcoming unexcused absence, speaks loud and clear....

  • Concerned American - 15 years ago

The reason we're concerned about this president has absolutely nothing to do with the color of his skin...and being called a bigot and racist for disagreeing with him shows just how close minded and quick to judge YOU are.

Obama himself said "If I'm interested in figuring out my foreign policy, I associate myself with my running mate Joe Biden or with Dick Lugar, the Republican ranking member on the Senate foreign relations committee or General Jim Jones, the former supreme allied commander of NATO. Those are the people, Democrats and Republicans, who have shaped my ideas and who will be surrounding me."

Read that last sentence again and then let's talk about who is "surrounding him"...a self-proclaimed communist (Van Jones, green jobs czar)...an intelligence czar with no professional roots in the world of intelligence...a regulatory czar who believes animals have the right to sue...a science czar who co-authored a book that says "population-control laws, even including laws requiring compulsory abortion, could be sustained under the existing Constitution."...does this not scare you?

He says he wants a civilian military that is as strong and as well funded as the current military...why? who is the enemy this military will go up against? how does this fit with lliberals' constant attempts to disarm our law-abiding citizens?
Am I the only one this makes no sense to?

Bottom line...we don't trust him...not because of the color of his skin (heck he could be purple or orange for all I care), but for what he stands for.

I am not at all opposed to the president making a speech to school children...other presidents have done that too. It's the lesson plans the white house developed that ripped it with me. Asking grade school children to write a letter themselves about what they can do to help the president? What the heck does he expect a second grader to do to "help him"?? That's lunacy!

  • TJ - 15 years ago

    Sarah,
But why is the word racism used in this country 98% (if not 99.9%) for blacks, even in this day and age (not talking about 200 yrs or 240 yrs etc)? Why is that used to explain the misery of black people? Why is it not used for other races? Why other races themselves don't need any support of (or excuse from) that word (i.e. racism)?

And if racism has affected Obama like no other president, you are talking in the positive sense, right? For the first time, a black was choosen a president (so blacks can do whatever they want in this country just like whites, browns, greens, blues, etc), right? And you think Hillary Clinton would have won by a bigger margin than Obama in the last elections?

  • Sarah - 15 years ago

TJ-- Oh right, that was Tawnya the Ninny who is lying about a video that supposedly has celebrities pledging allegiance to our president, when they were in fact pledging to be of positive service. My bad.

As for the racism thing, I think racism exists on both sides of the aisle, and has especially affected Obama like no other president.

Racism exists in this country, it's a sad fact. And to a point, it's highly subjective, just like any political issue would be.

My own opinion is...We instituted slavery, segregation, Jim Crow, and poll taxes for about 240 years in this country. Another 200 years of Affirmative Action, and MAYBE we can think about taking racial issues out of our politics.

  • Sarah - 15 years ago

"I am a patriot who loves God and my country and I pledge allegiance to them and not to him."

Highly unlikely, since you're keen to spread falsehoods alleging this to be fact. God does not like liars.

  • TJ - 15 years ago

    Sarah,
what do you mean? Which celebrity? which pledge? You are probably responding to someone else's mesage..

Please respond to mine.. the racism one (last one), if possible..

  • TJ - 15 years ago

Here is one of my previous questions again, for my fellow black and white Americans:

I just have a comment about racism... everytime a disagreement like this happens, people cry racism..

I am not white nor black.. Why is racism in this country always about whites and blacks? In the meantime you guys (white and blacks) are struck in this defination of racism, other races (many others) have come into this country.. how many times the word racism is used for a white guy for chinese, or white on indian?? Why are blacks affected by this so called racism all the time? It's really getting boring for others...

and can blacks be racist towards white, towards browns too?? I will tell you all the rough remarks I have heard from others (as a minority myself) came from blacks, not whites.. and to be honest, there were not too many instances over last 2 decades, so to me it's a non-issue..

this much level of separation exists everywhere, actually more..

Please stop this black and white thing.. or crying racism all the time..

    - a brown

  • Sarah - 15 years ago

TJ, you're lying. None of those celebrities were pledging allegiance to Barack Obama. They were pledging to be OF SERVICE to him AND ALL MANKIND.

Lying about this, casting aspersions and doubts on the good intentions of others...This is what you want to teach your 5-year-old?

You quibble with the pledges these celebrities shared, in order to invoke more positive actions on a local basis?

"I pledge....to be a great mother, great father, to volunteer more, to give to a local food bank, to help end hunger in america, to smile more, laugh more, love more, to help children battle serious illnesses, to be the voice for those who have none, to consider myself an American not an African, I pledge to find the humor in everything, find a cure for Alzheimer's, make sure people have access to healthcare, spread the awareness of autism, find out the names of my neighbors, be a better mentor to my sisters and brothers, to plant 500 trees this year, consume less and cultivate more, to turn the lights off, I pledge to sell my obnoxious car and buy a hybrid, support arts education in our schools, to work to make good a 200-year-old promise to abolish slavery, defend issues I care about, (and ONE person said....) I pledge to be of service to Barack Obama, commit to my own change before I ask others to change....what's your pledge?

I pledge to be of service to our president and ALL MANKIND."

Only the selfish and bitter would quibble with this.

  • Gina - 15 years ago

Did you actually watch the video that they showed the students in Utah? I had no problem with it until they asked the kids to pledge allegiance to Obama? Since when in this crazy " racist" country do we pledge allegiance to Obama and not the United States of America. I am not a racist for disagreeing with this president. I am a patriot who loves God and my country and I pledge allegiance to them and not to him. And BTW that's what my husband gave 33 years in service of his life to this country for. And now is 80% disabled for. So I can say I DON"T AGREE WITH YOU. That doesn't make me a racist or unAMerican. Actually it makes me just the opposite. American.

  • TJ - 15 years ago

    And Sarah,
I do not hate Obama because he is black.. I would have hated a white guy with the same vision also.. and would have probably (saying probably because I don't know him that well, but using his reference to prove my point) loved Michael Steele (a black conservative)..

And I do not want to use a strong word as "hate".. I just do not like his vision, just like perhaps you did not like Bush's..

But can anyone respond to my racism question??

  • TJ - 15 years ago

Sarah, you are obviously assuming that this one person, e.g. a President (Obama or Bush) will be giving so much wisdom to our kids in 30 minutes that we would have otherwise not given to them as parents as teachers in 20 years.. if you are right on that, oh boy we are really screwed..

  • Fast Eddie - 15 years ago

I just heard on the radio that he plans on Hipmotizing the kids to be his zombies!

Stop. Listen to yourselves. Don't divide this country because your team lost. Give him a chance Rupert.

  • Tawnya - 15 years ago

Sarah - You assume too much. Not a Republican. Though the thought has come to me lately. I vote across party lines. You know that proverbial, "crossing the aisle?" I live in it. I truly what the best person for the job.

My point, if President Obama allows videos to be created with allegiance being stated towards him... Where is the humbleness, strength, and wisdom in this? A leader doesn't need people to pledge allegiance to him but to what he stands for. In thes country its the "people..."

With this in mind, I have concern... If this issue had not come to light, what would President Obama speech topics included? The more I research for myself, the more I become uncomfortable... Not to mention, the flippant disregard from his Secretary Gibbs over the People's concern of this issue.

Still proud to be an American.

  • Yvonne - 15 years ago

According to the press release this is a message to students about the importance of school and urging them to stay in school. If that is all it is then what is the harm in that? Don't we want our children to do just that, stay in school, graduate and get a good foundation for life.

I have check with my school and they informed me that they NEVER show anything of this nature in our school. They focus on academics and never deviate from that for any televised event or speech regardless of what the content is or who it is from. Not every school is that way. I suggest checking with your school and also reading the speech for yourself. Then making a decision that is best for your child and not our personal feelings towards any political party.

I think that reminding our children how important school is is something we should all do and coming from someone of importance could be a good thing. The speech is going to be televised nation wide at noon on Tuesday. Even though our school is not showing the speech if (after reading it) I approve of the message I plan to record it and watch it with my child at home so I can relay my own message at the same time. Lets make decisions based on what is best for the children and try to keep an opened mind. At least that is what I am planing to do.

I don't understand why everyone is blowing this so out of proportion. It is not wrong for our President to address our children, to encourage them and to send a positive message regarding education. I have taught my children to listen to what someone has to say and to form their own opinion. If he adds anything that dose not conform to your political views then this would be a great time to talk to your children. It will give you something to discuss with your children, after all isn't communication a good thing for a parent and child to have. Let your child know your views, lets use this opportunity.

Just for the record I am a Republican and did not support or vote for President Obama. I am a parent and I want my children to know right from wrong, to be opened minded, to respect our country and all those who represent it and us.

Good luck to all in these troubled times,

    Yvonne

  • Sarah - 15 years ago

Helicopter parents mystify me. It's as if all aspects of everyone's lives have to be controlled by them for the good of their little angels.

TJ, by all means, if you want to keep your impressionable daughter from hearing a speech about the importance of GOALS, RESPONSIBILITY and PERSISTENCE, that's certainly your prerogative. It's too bad you're short-changing the country by leaving out these age-appropriate words of wisdom, but I understand you hate Obama, and that's certainly more important.

You "spend all the time with my kids, and know their behavioral responses too." You want to vet the president's speech before it airs?

Truly frightening and controlling. Please learn to trust.

  • Duh People - 15 years ago

Thanks Fox and your freaks for making something this benign cause 87% of these respondents to take their kids out of school. Perhaps these kids will be at home watching cartoons, Margaret Thatcher or getting "indoctrinated" by their stupid parents. Come on people!

  • Jim - 15 years ago

I discussed this with him, and he will decide whether he wants to watch it or not. All I did was warn him that politicians in general (not just marxists that want to destroy the foundations of our country) need to be listened to carefully to distinguish truth from error.

When a speaker goes above 50% erroneous in their speaking I stop listening because it is too hard to find any good in what they say. I stopped listening to him long before he became president.

  • TJ - 15 years ago

And would anyone care to respond to my racism question (my post, 2-3 posts before this one)?

    Please do..

  • Caius - 15 years ago

Public School is not the proper forum for a 2012 re-election campaign speech. Obama should learn how to be a president rather than continue to run for office.

  • Truth Sayer - 15 years ago

Dee - Where were you when people like you were bashing GW?

Everyone - Hear is the truth. Let us assume the point of the message is to encourage education and it's importance. What is wrong with that? Bush 41 did the same thing. Now if the President is going to push some agenda, then is is completely out of bounds.

We are in the process of completely marginalizing one of our country's greatest accomplishments in the name of politics. It shouldn't matter the party of the President but the message. If my Kindergartener says it talked about how important school is, awesome. If it talks about any agenda, well then I'll hand deliver a letter of protest myself to the White House.

  • TJ - 15 years ago

And to me, yes as a 5 yr old going into KG, she does not already need to know everything a school goer goes thru in their 12 year span... Just like I do not yet want to talk about death with her already..

there are always chances of everything, e.g. a stranger presenting her drugs, or luring for this or that.. I plan on reducing those changes by continuous vigilance, and be with her most of the time myself.. But to cover 0.01% chances of drugs, dropping-out ideas, I don't want to start talking about everything already.. I spend all the time with my kids, and know their behavioral responses too.

And if this is one and the same speech for all 12 grades, obviously it is not being "optimized" for various ages... Why short-cuts?? have 4 different set of speeches (or 8 or 12).. for kids 4-8, talk about nothing but good values, family joys, joys of studies/sports, all the good things in life.. and please show me the transcripts beforehand, so that I can be assured that no additional agends regarding your view of the world will be shared, only common view we all hold dear to our hearts and of our kids - be it conservative or liberals.

  • Sarah - 15 years ago

And you thought Obama was bad. Just wait. Hell hath no fury like moderate Republicans scorned by their own party.

We'll take back our GOP. The GOP of Buckley, Goldwater, and Eisenhower. Megan McCain is only the start.

  • tony s - 15 years ago

Why is it so many people are afraid of a speech? Americans have always been strong in their convictions and do not back down but that does not mean we ignore everyone that thinks differently from our held beliefs. Somehow it seems people think that by not participating or disturbing the debate on a topic they have won, when in fact they have missed the boat. If we continue to fight the good fight and stop being AFRAID we will prosper as a nation.

  • Sarah - 15 years ago

Lori, you realize you're letting the terrorists win, right? And, in effect, you're becoming one yourself.

"Obama is Hitler! He wants to indoctrinate my babies!"

Get a grip on yourself, woman. Instead of worrying about educating our president about "freedoms," how about educating yourself about the electoral process. He's the country's president, a majority agrees a change was needed.

Stop sounding like a weenie, crying, PC-touting liberal of the late '80s.

  • Sarah - 15 years ago

Tawnya, you ninny. There are no movie stars "pledging allegiance to Obama" in this speech, and you're making baby Jesus weep in his manger by lying about it.

You're also disgracing the Republican Party that had such visionary leaders as Buckley, Goldwater, Eisenhower, Dole, Reagan and yes, McCain.

  • Josh - 15 years ago

An active debate in the classroom? It's going to be a motivational speech....not on policies! Did you read before you commented, Lori? So is your child going to debate if she will stay in school, work towards goals and do everything she can to maximize her abilities while in school? This will be an interesting "debate". IT'S A MOTIVATIONAL SPEECH! I'm thinking that if most on here would actually read what the speech is about, then you wouldn't be so AFRAID!

  • TJ - 15 years ago

Sure I will be honest, and hope you will be too..

Yes, I will not be thinking as hard as now if Bush were to do this..

Would you now admit that you are doing the same now?

And if we both are being honest in this admission, can we agree that most of us are alike, and are humans.. and have more in common than not...

My point was not to bring myself over you, I am actually working from a defensive position, and reminding you that what you are seeing right now, is the same we have seen from the side that's complaining about the same issue before..

We are all the same... sometimes at the giving, and at other times at the receiving end..

    can we agree on that?

  • Lori - 15 years ago

I will allow my sophomore daughter to view the President's speech. She is against Obama's policies and welcomes the opportunity to have an active debate with her classmates. However, I clearly see the President as a dangerous, over zealous, controling dictator who needs a proper education on the fundamental principles of freedom. These are scary times. Remember how Hitler indoctrinated the children in school to follow him. Wake up America and see who Obama really is.

  • Tawnya - 15 years ago

I appreciate a President's involvement with schooling and talking to students. What has me concerned is the "video" showing "movie stars" offering their "Pledge Allegiance to Obama!" This is too far, we don't have a KING. We are Americans. We "Pledge Allegiance to the United States and to our Flag!" This represents "The People" Remember we broke away from Kingship for a reason! I'm ready to participate in a Tea Party NOW!

  • Sarah - 15 years ago

The spelling mistakes among the "I'm yankin' my kid from school!" crowd are atrocious, but would explain why they have no respect for education.

  • Melanie - 15 years ago

So tell me, if George W. had chosen to do this last year, would you still have pulled your kids out of school? I bet if everyone were forced to give an honest answer, the answer would be no. It's just that people are afraid of what is different from them. How sad that these kids are being taught that when the President speaks, they get to miss school so that they won't hear what he has to say.

A smart parent, frankly, would leave their kid in school, then would have a conversation at dinner that night (having watched it themselves during the day) saying, "Well what did you think of what the President said?" then talked about what the kid got out of the speech, and what the parent got out of the speech, and why. I am pretty sure Obama isn't going to say anything super scary. And if you do your job as a parent, you shouldn't be afraid of your child hearing different ideas and viewpoints even if you disagree with them.

I don't care for the policies of W, but I'd never pull my kid out of school if W were speaking to them. I'd encourage my daughter to listen closely to what he has to say, so that we could discuss later.

What a sad day when Americans absolutely refuse to support the President. People say this is what makes this country great, but I don't get that at all. I think Americans are just becoming increasingly self-centered and don't really care about the welfare of the country or respect the President at all. I didn't like W's policies, but I wanted him to succeed and prove me wrong, because if the President succeeds, the country succeeds. So I threw my support behind W and when I disagreed with something, I wrote a letter and shared my feelings. But to root for the failure of a President and nitpick over every little teeny tiny thing - how sad that this is what we're teaching our children.

It's no wonder kids these days are arrogant, self-centered little brats who don't respect authority if this is the example we're setting, guys!

TJ, do you remember the old Walt Disney movies, like Fantasia, Pinocchio, Snow White? Those appealed to all ages, yes? Perhaps that's why Obama's speech is fit for all age groups.

In terms of strangers telling your kids not to do drugs, I'd think you'd have had a big problem with Ronald Reagan's wife, in that case.

If George Bush had delivered this speech, perhaps it would have encouraged a more positive response among ALL of us after 9/11, instead of his "go shopping" exhortation.

  • kathy - 15 years ago

I already called my kids school put them on the non viewing list. Who does this guy think he is. God. Because last time I checked he wasn't allowed in the school either. So Mr. Obama can keep his views to his own children. I don't take any government hands out and I pay all my own bills. and my enormous taxes to pay for all the less fortunate to sit on there front steps and collect welfare. He can let them view his speech.

Priceless! I have to come here more often:

WB: "So instead of seeing the light and waking up to realize Obama is going to screw you in the ass, you make personal attacks towards people who opposes him."

Since you have A.D.D. (and Tourette's, and other learning disabilities, it looks like), you probably were distracted by bright, shiney objects when the teachers talked about "irony."

I agree Floyd....well this has been interesting folks, but I'M OUTTA HERE! Hope all of the other open minded people get out as well...LOL....all you others, have fun, I feel sorry for you and your children.

    Good day!

We must learn to live together at brothers or perish as fools. Too bad so many children will not be attending school. They might actually learn tolerance for each others differences, views, cultures and ethnicity. That certainly seems to be what is wrong with our society and we would not want that WOULD WE???? I have 4 kids and they will all be attending school and if my school does not show it we will tape it and I will have them watch it so that we can discuss it. Shame on you Fox for promoting this.

It is a shame that racism is still alive and well in this country by so many.

AND STOLE HER FAVORITE TOY .

  • Cougar76 - 15 years ago

TJ.....YES....it has already happened with Bush Sr. in '91. No problems there. And I am sure the wording in the speech will be designed to be suitable for all grade levels. But you can always view the text Monday.

  • TJ - 15 years ago

Not caring about politics, why is the same content in this upcoming speech suitable for all kids, ranging from 4 thru 18 years? My daughter, 5, is going to school for the first time (KG), and why does she need to know dropping-out of school, or staying away from drugs? She does not need that info, thanks..

and now politics, a question for liberal friends.. if the same transcript that Obama is going to deliver, were to be delivered by Bush a few years back, would they have been OK with it??

Not really, Grandma from KS. I don't think you're racist. I think you're just one of the willfully dumb neocons who's alienated some of the GOP's best members and their ideas.

By the way, Grandma from KS-- how's that socialized medicine working for YOU? Anytime you want to get off of it would be my pleasure-- I'd love to stop paying taxes to support YOU.

In terms of death panels-- give me a break. If Medicare's willing to give my 89-year-old grandmother knee replacements, they seem unlikely to smother her with a hospital bed pillow.

  • Bravo - 15 years ago

Congats Fox News! Tearing your country apart with these moronic demented BS lies. Shame on you you unpatriotic bums!

  • Cougar76 - 15 years ago

You seem to be falling apart....by the way, I'm not a woman. LOL

  • WB from Oklahoma - 15 years ago

No, I have Attention Deficit Disorder, and I dont give a rat's ass how tall, perky, proportinate you are, i could care less

And I am sorry, I have seen the light, cant say the same for you

So instead of seeing the light and waking up to realize Obama is going to screw you in the ass, you make personal attacks towards people who opposes him.

You picked the wrong person to pick a fight with woman, I can stand my own politically and personally.

  • Cougar76 - 15 years ago

    Wow, I was right! Schizophrenia? I bet. Oh, and I'm not a heifer....I'm 6'3, 180.....perfectly height/weight proportional....but I'll excuse it since you are delusional.....LOL

  • Grandma from KS - 15 years ago

Anyone who objects to anything that this President does is automatically called a racist. If this President wanted to teach, he should have become a teacher, not a politician. Of course, he wouldn't have the money he does now, because teachers aren't paid what they are worth. My grandchildren won't be subjected to his communist views. This is America, not Cuba, North Korea, or China. Everyone needs to tell their schools they don't want their kids to watch any message from President Obama, unless they view it first for content.

  • WB from Oklahoma - 15 years ago

Hey Sarah, why dont you go shut your freakin piehole

First of all, yall treat Obama like a messiah. I know Jesus Christ is my Messiah, do you know your's?

I'm sorry, but I have heard more Democraps call Republicans retarded, so try again

I dont know what the f*** Orwellian is, and I dont care either

And so what if we are on Medicare or Social Security. Doesnt your effin dumbass get it? Obama is trying to rid Medicare and Social Security

And with you following your "Messiah" you condone the deaths of elderlies because his health plan is going to do that. he can deny all he wants, but we know the the truth

  • Sarah - 15 years ago

Congratulations, WB from Oklahoma. You're the first raving neocon I've met who's willingly admitted to having a mental disorder.

I'm sure the GOP will ask you to replace Joe the Plumber soon. Perhaps it will be a step up for them.

  • Sarah - 15 years ago

Cougar, don't you love neocons' ham-handed attempts to insult?

They allege that liberals think of Obama as a "Messiah" without realizing that by doing so, they insult Jesus Christ.

They call liberals "retarded," without realizing that by doing so, they insult Sarah Palin's young Down's Syndrome son.

They call Obama "Orwellian," but had no problem with the suspension of habeas corpus under Bush, including warrantless wiretappings and access to all kinds of communication information.

They decry "socialized medicine," yet most of them are on (or know someone who's on) Medicare or Social Security.

  • WB from Oklahoma - 15 years ago

I aint paranoid or delusional, and I do happen to have a Mental Disorder, so watch yourself you hateful heifer

You call us closed minded, but you are the one being close minded

I will feel sorry for you when you have to pay out your ass and coochie for health care if it goes in to effect

  • Cougar76 - 15 years ago

And here is a taste of mental illness....a bit paranoid/delusional perhaps? ;)

"Wow, you Liberals are bad mouthing us Conservatives because we are closed minded, YET YOU CANT FREAKIN SEE WHAT YOUR MESSIAH IS DOING TO YALL. You Libs are as screwed as the rest of us are, but yet you go and pay ahms and patronage to this joke of a President.

Where will your personal Messiah be when the world goes to Hell in a handbasket, because you might as well starting chanting "Heil Hitler" when the time comes that our country turns communistic with Obama as head leader"

  • WB from Oklahoma - 15 years ago

Cougar, you said it. These people shame the Republican party, they're exactly who William Buckley was talking about when he described the "lunatic fringe" and how they needed to be reigned in to keep from poisoning the GOP. I'm proud to say I no longer identify with a hateful, willfully-ignorant group that sounds more like the liberals of the late-'80s than the sane, true conservatives of the '50s and '80s.

Joe Jones, listen carefully. The power in place in the Republican Party of neocons doesn't give a hoot in hell for the majority of Americans unless they're in the top tax brackets, worship a Protestant god, and are of Western European background (unless they're Spanish or Italian).

You can trust me on this, my relatives on both sides are still highly connected, both on the state and federal levels.

Throwing around buzzwords like "czars" and "indoctrination" are EXACTLY what neocons want you to do.

  • Mark - 15 years ago

wow, wow. This is getting ridiculous.

Looks like Osama bin Laden has won.

Al Queda doesn't need attacks when our own population is dividing the American country apart.

  • joe jones - 15 years ago

Sarah, you need to open your eyes to what the "CZAR's' are all about......and how Obama is using the to shove his agenda down our, and our children's throats..Did Ronald Regan have "CZAR's???? Ronald Regan created 20 million JOBS IN HIS 8 YEARS IN OFFICE....WHAT HAS OBABA DONE SO FAR? Bought his wife a bank, Bought each one of his kids car companies......all with YOUR TAX DOLLARS .....SO WAKE UP AND SMELL THE BULL S**T

  • Cougar76 - 15 years ago

Wow, this is the PERFECT place to look at the perspectives of so many IGNORANT and CLOSE MINDED people....amazing! I am simply in awe right now.....wow! LOL

  • c - 15 years ago

    Debs,
It appears the only person racist might be you. I can bet if you were sitting today and John McCain had won you wouldn't be crying for him not to address your child. This has nothing to do with race it has everything to do with the President of the United States is supposed to have enough respect to keep politics out of the class.
Yes, he has an agenda. He wants citizens to report issues with those speaking out about healthcare, he wants access to our money, he keeps email addresses and sends letters unsolicited. I have an issue with the way he's going about trying to get support. It makes him look bad to try and get to our kids. He has crossed the line.
NO SCHOOL SHOULD PUSH POLITICS. Doesn't matter black or white.

  • Sarah - 15 years ago

Cheer up, Joe Jones. At least the Wall Street Journal acknowledges the stimulus is helping.

In terms of brainwashing: Nancy Reagan, anyone?

  • Sarah - 15 years ago

Katydid: "How many of you that are supporting BO actually have studied American History or better yet know anything about Hitler and how he got his foot hold of the young people?"

I have news for you, Katydid-- You and your fellow screechers have become the terrorists and nazis you screech about. Because what you're doing is what terrorists do: They blindly and zealously support a religious/political agenda and seek to inspire TERROR in those who don't agree with them.

Congratulations. You're now ready to blow up a federal building and daycare in Oklahoma City.

(Admittedly, it's not "The Pet Goat," which was the book Bush was reading when the Twin Towers was bombed, and which Osama bin Laden credited for the delay that allowed him to carry out the twin tower bombings.)

  • joe jones - 15 years ago

I refuse to allow my 7th grader to go to class on Tuesday 9-8-09, to listen the that socialist propaganda of how great this radical Anti-American guy Obama is....if he's so great, why did UNEMPLOYMENT HIT 9.7 % TODAY? Why does he want to redistribute my HARD EARNED WEALTH THE THE A-HOLES WHO DON'T WANNA WORK HARD AND EARN AN HONEST LIVING????

    god help America!!!!!!!

  • WB from Oklahoma - 15 years ago

First off, it is not racist that we do not want our kids to hear the president brainwash them.

It is based on how he runs this country, not because he is black, which by the way, if you wanna go there, technically Jefferson is the first black president if you wanna go there.

For those who blame Bush for what happened to the US, you still enjoying your freedom? You should thank him for that, and, at least he didnt tax the hell out of us like Obama is doing.

So, when your kid gets home, I hope you have milk and cookies ready for timmy or sue when they bombard you with questions about the crap that Obama enstilled in to the kids

  • paula - 15 years ago

Wake up Shelley...of course schools have "motivational speakers". To compare a motivational speaker that comes to talk to one class or school with a pre-approved speech, to a politician coming to EVERY class LIVE with no pre-approved anything, is ignorant.

  • Sarah - 15 years ago

Todd, it's so great you're worried about teaching kids, rather than "indoctrinating" them.

Hopefully, you can help keep those fundamentalists and "intelligent design" jerks out, as well.

  • Cougar76 - 15 years ago

This is the most ridiculous issue I have seen in a looong time! LOL....Conservatives ought to be ashamed of themselves right now....with all the crap on TV these days and all that the kids are exposed to on a daily basis....and people are worried about A MOTIVATIONAL SPEECH ABOUT STAYING IN SCHOOL AND WORKING HARD TO THE BEST OF YOUR ABILITY? Get a life people....you don't fool us....there is something else hidden in your reason, and it's not too hard to figure out....you figure it out.

  • No Longer GOP for Me! - 15 years ago

Since when do GOP parents yank their kids out of school for fear they'll be "indoctrinated" with a message from the president about the importance of "responsibility, goals and persistence" (read the White House materials on the homework assignments!).

Apparently, GOP parents are more concerned with doing whatever their GOP "leaders" tell them to do, without using their own brains.

Goldwater, we hardly knew ye. It'll be a LONG time before I ever identify myself as a Republican again.

  • Paula - 15 years ago

No Dee he isn't the first president to talk to children in school, but he's the first to want to address ALL the students in America LIVE, with "sheets to be passed out" after?? Really?? This doesn't seem a bit "creepy" to you? My boys are teenagers and they will stay and listen if they want, because I have taught them to be open minded. They are old enough not to be "intimidated" by this kind of thing and we will discuss it at home. But if I had younger children, no way would they sit through a speech that comes directly into their classroom from ANY politician that I haven't heard yet. Did Bush talk to students.....of course he did, he went to schools and you knew he was coming and you had a choice. He didn't put his face in front of every student in the country at the same time LIVE to be "adored"....frankly it makes me kinda sick.

  • Tina - 15 years ago

I told my 16 and 14 year old to watch and take notes if they show it in their class - we'll discuss it when they come home.

  • Todd - 15 years ago

As a public school teacher at the middle school level for 31 years I am insulted by the president's decision to interrupt the very first day of school I have with my students. It is my job to encourage my students to do their best, etc. and I do not need his help. The taxpayers of my school district pay me to educate their children based on the goals and objectives set by my district and my state. My school district does not have the money, and I don't have the time, to include his message as part of my school day. If he wants to give a speech, fine, do it at night when the parents and their children can choose to watch it together. But please don't interrupt the valuable time I have with children I am meeting for the first time! It really is a tremendous distraction!

  • Shelley from San Antonio - 15 years ago

OK, really, people are kidding about this, right? Schools have all kinds of motivational speakers come in to encourage kids to stay in school -- sports figures, business leaders, astronauts, etc. -- and people don't want the President of the United States to encourage our children to work hard, stay in school, and take personal responsibility for their learning. I thought "personal responsibility" was the mantra for conservatives. What happened? How can there be "sides" about a message to work hard and persevere? My child will stay home if her school doesn't show the President's address.

  • Katydid from Texas - 15 years ago

How many of you that are supporting BO actually have studied American History or better yet know anything about Hitler and how he got his foot hold of the young people?
BO is trying to do the same with our kids! Our great country is fortunate to have people of ALL races, religions etc. that came here from socilist, communist countries so that they and their families could be free!
For all of you BO supporters---I recommend that you go to Yugo Chavez's country---tell him that you are a supporter of BO and I'm sure he will welcome you with open arms...if communism, socialism, marxism is what you want please, go!
America LOVE IT OR LEAVE IT----Freedom loving patriots don't want you here in our Great U.S. of A.
Many Texas schools ARE NOT doing the BO thing in their schools. The Texas school that my grandson attends is not televising it. When I called his school was told that the Supt., Principal, and School Board were totally against BO's agenda and they had had many calls---=ALL against this national school power grab by BO!
TO BO & COMMUNIST ZCARS-----AGAIN...AMERICA LOVE IT OR LEAVE IT!!!!!!

  • jane - 15 years ago

No wonder this country is in the condition it is in. How can people be so negative. A speech by the president or anyone else cannot influence a child as much as their home environment. I would be willing to have my child listen to his speech and discuss the speech at home. Heaven help this country with so many fighting and complaining about our goverment instead of trying to build a sound foundation.

  • Dee Renee - 15 years ago

I am what some would call an ultra-conservative. However, I disagree with those who would keep their children from hearing President Obama's speech. Like him or not, he is our president. His story is inspiring and since the Department of Education has backed away from prior politically charged suggestions to the teachers, I think that children, if their local school boards desire, should be allowed to hear what the President has to say. I suggest that rather than holding our children out of school, that we ask to view the speech as well, and then to discuss it with our children. If we take our children out of school, conservatives appear to be Obama haters. Enough hate already. Concern, yes, Caution, yes, Hate, no.

  • Ruth B. - 15 years ago

What a bunch of hooie. Literally. I'm amazed that some of these wackos even deign to send their kids to school - let's home school 'em all so that they have absolutely no outside influences. My child will be there and will listen. When she gets home, we'll discuss it. I'm trying to teach MY child that people have different opinions and it's actually a good thing to hear them all and make up your own mind. Guess that's too radical for most on this site. omg - actually listening to an opposing point of view?? omg - actually discussing it with one's parent?????? How socialist of me.

  • Sherry Shriner - 15 years ago

    I don't spend 10 minutes listening to Mr. Obamanation's
Socialistic, Communistic, "let's praise Allah" propaganda and views and I will not allow my children to be forced to either!

He cancel's the "National Prayer Day" at the White House but continually bows to Arabs and Moslems, can't find enough to hug while he slams Christianity under the carpet every chance he gets declaring America, "isnt' a Christian nation."

Perhaps Obamanation should go back to Kenya where he was born, he obviously doesn't have a clue about America, and the people who voted for him have NO CLUE who and what he really is!

Keep your forced chip implantations and your "Health Reform" Obamanation! We don't want your 666 enforcements here!

  • Rosemary - 15 years ago

So you don't want your kids to get the message that it's important to get an education, stay in school...so you'll encourage your kids to skip school so they aren't subjected to such a radical message. Good to know.

  • Rene Walker - 15 years ago

I teach in a small rural South Texas school district and we will not be showing the president's speech live on our three campus'. First our technology will not allow us to stream live feed to all of our TV's and second it is being shown during our lunch time; and face it kids would rather eat than sit and watch a long speech.

Our administration is going to tape his speech and view it to decide upon the merits of it being shown to our students. If it is found to have educational value then a teacher may show it upon notifying their campus principal and showing how they are to use it in their lesson plans.

I think my district made the correct call.

  • emyrus - 15 years ago

"My children will be sick that day, I can already tell. There's no way I'm going to allow Obama to ask my kids to pledge their support to him. The last time I checked, the president was supposed to serve US, not the other way around. The less my kids see of this bozo and his socialist views, the better." Yes mam' I agree 100% to that as a mom

  • Emyrus - 15 years ago

I think that this is a very horrible a idea. No one is trying to make the president fail as the first comment on this discussion has insisted, he is the only reason why he is failing in the 1st place. Come on have some COMMON SENSE read it

  • debs - 15 years ago

Uh, Dave, did you see this spew of vitriol from the left when Bush went to read a book to some kids on 9/11?
    Get real.
Besides, disagreeing with a President wanting to tell kids to stay in school is slightly different than disagreeing with a political policy. Good lord man, get a hold of yourself!

  • Dave - 15 years ago

This president is being treated by the right the same as Bush was treated by the left . Why is it that when a lib disagrees with a president it's their right, but when a conservative disagrees with the president they're racist. Didn't H Clinton say in the presidential primaries that it was not only every American's right to challenege government it was their responsibility. Did she mean only when a republican was president????

  • Tony The Tiger - 15 years ago

It's amazing the extent to which republicans are willing to go in their desire to see our president fail. Obstructionist is not nearly enough to describe their behavior. This particular stunt is so ridiculous and destructive and is so telling of their nature. It's become all too obvious that the real reasons republicans undertake these type of efforts has more to do with the fact that our president is half black and not due to any real, substantial reason. The majority of the predominantly white, republican party has not, and can not get past its deeply rooted racist views with regard to minorities and particularly, blacks.
It's also obvious there is nothing this president can do that republicans will wholeheartedly embrace because their reasoning is not really based on values or honest convictions but are driven by deep seeded, thinly veiled and pervasive racism and xenophobia.

  • JustAMom - 15 years ago

I am going to allow my son to see the address. He got into a fight last year because he was going with McCain not Obama. His own opinion was attacked by another student and 2 off that students friends. I have raised him to question, take in information and decide for himself what is his belief. I will watch the address and then he and I will talk about it.
