Does Obama need a new strategy on health care?

I think Obama's push to take a perfectly good health plan and ruin it is way
over the top even for his ambitions to change. I think its more personal than
that. I saw a speech he gave when he was 34-35 yo. talking about the bad
treatment his mother had and all the messed up paper work. Now, he was a
Harvard graduate and couldn't help his mother? Guess it was easier to blame
the system, then get voted in years later and try and change the system.
Does he have a chip on his shoulder or what?

  • American Voter - 15 years ago

He needs an exit strategy. The hijinks so far should be an indication that they are not qualified to run a grocery store, let alone a country and the USof A at that!

Maybe Rahm and Axelrod and Gibbs can develop it over BBQ by Wednesday and Obama can deliver it to the school kids on Wednesday.

  • Patricia Smith - 15 years ago

This is nothing about health care but about controlling the money. I said "NO" on the survey because I don't want Obama or anybody controlling health care, it's not in their job description. I don't care how they package it, I don't want them involved. We are hurting because of too much government interference. Our Constitution guarantees us our right to Life. What they are proposing is against the Constitution. I can't think of one government program that is run well, they need to leave this to the private sector. Less government is best. I think it's time to clean house!

  • Clay - 15 years ago

New Strategy !! Yes, Obama should offer his resignation and the rest of the cabinet should follow his lead. What we need is leadership and common sense.
I have never in my entire life seen so many screw ups, so many mistakes made by this administration. This is unbelievable. What vetting process? How many members of the cabinet and those that we going to be appointed to cabinet positions either resigned or declined? How many have had income tax problems or other issues? How many of the green Czars have issues or are
completely radical with their beliefs? This entire administration is a sham. The entire cabinet and the President don't know what in the hell they are doing. We have no leadership in this country; only a radical socialist President that is gradually destroying our liberties and freedoms while shredding our Constitution at will. Those "tea parties" are about much more that the Health Bill, the are about the entire corrupt Obama administration and how very unhappy the majority of Americans are. Someone somewhere needs to start a petition to impeach the President and throw his liberal butt of out office. I have never seen such corruption in my life. If you haven't read it, read "culture of corruption" by Michelle Malkin. All of the FACTS ARE THERE, IN THIS BOOK. It will make you sick to your stomach and keep watching
Glenn Beck; another straight shooter; he tells the naked truth about the issues.

  • edwin lupo - 15 years ago

Yes,, Oboma needs to try something new like resigning and then go sit on the peanut farm with Jimmy carter ,,another complete loser.

  • chris6 - 15 years ago

He needs to fix the plan we have. As for the few million that actually do not have insurance, not that ones that don't want it, add them to Medicaid, but don't burden the states with the excess.

In my opinion, he is going to get his foot in the door by using a "crisis" such as possibly the Swine flu? For a month you heard nothing about the flu and now it is all over the news. My goodness, there are so many people dying! I am not saying it isn't real, but isn't this a convenient time for an epidemic? Just as Ronald Reagan said in his speech regarding socialism...scare the people, like he did with the stimulus. Rahm said to never waste a good crisis. I hope the American people are not this naive.

It is not about concern for the American people. It is only about Power!!

  • Long Islander - 15 years ago

We should consider "Impeachment" since the man is not qualified for the job.
We need a real American who has love for his country and is proud of it - not someone who is digging up the ancient weathermen, etc.
We should take Valerie and Jones, the so called czars and throw them all out.
    We did not elect them.

  • Jeff K - 15 years ago

Ken, I couldn't agree with you more. I am one American that has gone through my entire adult life without paying too much attention to our government but boy am I paying attention now!! I am not a right wing radical, Nazi, or an extremist either but a proud American and one that is thankful for the freedoms we do have but I want the ones that have been taken away back!! You are also correct that it's a good thing in a way that Obama has done what he has because it got my attention!! My only fear is that there aren't enough of us that have woken up??
And as for Fox, Beck, Hannity etc., At least we're hearing opposing views and being offered information that the main stream media won't give us. They're all in bed with the left wing liberals and wouldn't dare speak out against the annointed one!!
I expect the media to investigate and produce honest, accurate information so that we can formulate our own opinion and the main stream media won't do that so I say Kudo's to Fox for being brave enough to say what others are afraid to!!

    September 3, 2009

    Don’t Blame President George Bush:

Americans ask yourself who is the cause of most of our nation’s woes for the past sixty year period from 1949 thru 2009 we can begin by looking at who controlled our government during this period and who enacted the laws that are currently breaking the backs of all tax paying citizens of this country. A sampling of some of the failed programs they enacted during this period along with the misuse of funds that were to be set aside to pay for these programs we have The Social Security Program which is broke, we have The Medicare Program which is broke, we have The Medicaid Program which is broke, How about our postal service that’s broke too, and the many entitlement programs they created for the benefit of mostly the welfare bums that have made a career of feeding from the government trough at our expense. We have the dummying down of our school children, and the socialist leaning educators with their hate America first agenda, The ACLU and other subversive groups taking God out of our schools, and The Political Correctness Movements galore that are shutting down our free speech daily. We have the corrupt elected government officials that continue to waste and spend our tax dollars on their pet pork projects knowing and not caring that we are a bankrupt nation.

The prize for this failed leadership and the public trust belongs to the party that ruled the Senate for 43 of the last 60 years, the party that ruled the house for 49 of the last 60 years and finally the party that controlled both houses for 41 of the past 60 years.

    IT’S THE DEMOCRATS

Again ask yourselves who has taken our great democracy down this path to where we are today we are bankrupt, and on the brink of becoming a Third World Banana Republic.
Thanks to the greed, and corruption imposed upon us by the DEMOCRAT party.

Enough said, now is the time to take back our country and rebuild our government to one of honesty, and decency, and we must demand of all future elected officials to serve the people, not the other way around. The time to act is now my fellow Americans regardless of your political affiliation...

Written by a 69 years old senior citizen that feels our form of government and our freedoms are slipping away quickly.

NO NO NO! Do not change a thing with this strategy because it is PERFECT!! This issue has awakened the American people to the fact that the government is not at all well and has not been for a long time. It is because of this issue we have the people involved in keeping an eye on the government. To quote George Washington: "Government is not reason, it is not eloquence, it is force; like fire, a troublesome servant and a fearful master. Never for a moment should it be left to irresponsible action." Our government has too long been left to "irresponsible action". This bill has finally gotten the American people engaged with a watchful and examining eye of our corrupt and unjust government. To that end I am thankful to Obama and his UNAMERICAN staff. I am confident that the new revision presented by Obama will not go unexamined by the American people. Could not be more proud of being an American than I am now. Oh yeah, by the way, I'm not an extremist, Nazi, or AstroTurf.
To Douglas: You say we should stop listening to "morons like Glenn Beck and Sarah Palin". Sir, I entertain your idea but not without presenting facts on your opinion. Until facts are presented to support your case, I find your insults to be a mirror upon yourself. You may find that persuasion is best done through factual content rather than passionate persuasion through insults and belittlement.

  • Jeff - 15 years ago

Doug, If you really believe our president, pelosi, reid, and the mainstream media I feel sorry for you. More importantly it's people like you that support this radical left wing socialist government that concern me even more. If you want socialism, move to Cuba.

  • Carl Haywood - 15 years ago

He should dump all his socialist plans and start supporting Americans.

  • Douglas Griffiths - 15 years ago

I feel sorry for the peole who actually believe that Fox is even a news network. The Republican party claims to be the religous party. Start acting like it and start telling the truth about things. People need to wake up and read the actual bills instead of listening to morons like Glen Beck and Sarah Palen.

  • susan guilmette - 15 years ago

We need to do major HOUSE CLEANING! He needs to get out and take all his HENCHMAN with him to a far and distant planet...where the inhabitants are ignorant!!! Don't forget to take Pelosi along!!! We need to start with a fresh Congress and Senate who consider the people they SERVE and WORK in THEIR interests. NOT THEIR OWN...What a disgrace they all are...You can not get blood from a stone!!! These people think our money is PLAY MONEY for themselves!!! I AM LIVID!! and sick to death of all of them and their SUPERIOR attitudes. They all have their AGENDAS and it sure doesn't include the poor working slobs

Obama is who he hangs with, We have more Czars than Russia....Are we really trying to become Socialists/Marxists. I don't think so. France has the best medical coverage in Europe and there system is 14 Billion in Debt...Let's follow the French:) England and Canada are Broke do we need to emulate failure. We need to follow the Israel government and have a vote of no confidence...Obama is a looser and dangerous to You, Me and my Children as well as America. We need to rid our selves of the stench of Harry Reid, Nancy Pelocy, Henry Waxmen and Barney Frank. Have tort Reform save 3 Billion, Clean up medicare and Social Security and stop supporting Saudi Arabia with American blood, Sweat and tears and Money. Drill here and now and don't send 2 Billion to to Brazil to drill for oil. Just common Sense please. 2010 we swing the bat, 2112 we hit a home run. Time for change we can count on.

  • Jill - 15 years ago

He should just abandon the plans on the table. Take the Health Care Bill written by the Czars, Acorn and any other "Group" and start all over. During a Recession people are not looking for change they are looking for stability and TOO much has happened over the last 7 months since Obama took office. Slow down the world isn't coming to an end tomorrow only maybe as most Americans know it if Obama doesn't just STOP. Put the $700 billion unused stimulus money back in the treasury. Let's go one step at a time with healthcare. Only 15% of the country doesn't have it so minus the illegal immigrants let's look at this in progressive stages. Even look at Medicare and change the age from 65 to 62 over a period of 5 years and see how the additional numbers affect the budget and how it works. JUST SLOW DOWN and think before leaping into more unknown waters. Most of all this is American and I WANT TO MAKE MY OWN DECISIONS not be governed by the Government in my choices.

It's about time this 'Illegal Alien', calling himself the 'President' ... try a new 'tactic' .... HONESTY, for openers .... He's always talking out of 'both sides' of his mouth .. and AMERICANS are seeing him for what he really is... The 'Community Organizer In Chief' .. He needs to READ the bills he's promoting and HIS useless 'townhall' meetings are rediculous & a WASTE of taxpayer money ... American's know the FACTS better than the President or Congress! does! American's ARE reading the bills, and discovering ALL of the LIES this president spews out ... He'd better start coming 'clean', as his poll numbers are plummeting ... With the 'Public/Government Option' STILL on the table, American's WILL NOT buy any more of his RHETORIC .. We're looking for a SOLID PLAN that everyone can live with .. not EMPTY RHETORIC ... Obama needs to finally stand up to the 'liberal left' and LISTEN to the American PEOPLE..... I saw Steny Hoyer on TV, telling his constituants that THEY will have HEALTHCARE, 'Just like Congress has' ... Well, truth is, WE WON'T ... CONGRESS IS 'EXEMPT' & all Federal workers, as well as the Vets ... They don't want to have the entire nation upset, just 155 MILLION or so!!! This President is DECEITFUL, so those who think he's 'looking out for you', better wake up and 'smell the coffee' ... He's leading the 'sheep to the slaughter' ... PROTEST any LIBERAL PLAN that he comes up with ... PUBLIC OPTION is just a step toward 'SOCIALISM' .. Gee, look at all the 'CZARS' he has in his WH .. Self-avowed Communists & Marxists!! Did you see who wrote the 'Bailout Bills'??? The 'Alliance Group' ... a far left group, which includes ACORN .... and many other left-wingers!! ASK QUESTIONS about any bill that comes through Congress from now on! Don't settle for just WORDS ... GET 'EDUCATED & INFORMED' ... Glenn Beck is telling all of us 'FOX' news watchers all about these CZARS, who ARE the President's ADVISERS!!!! GOD BLESS AMERICA ... Vote out all of these 'liberals' in 2010 & 2012, including this 'Liberal, Left Wing President'!!

A fresh look at Healthcare Reform needs to start with TORT reform. There are many frivolous law suits each year, costing (wasting) millions of dollars that could be used to lower healthcare cost. Next the cost of insuring non-citizens needs to be addressed. Millions of dollars could be saved right there. The voucher system also makes a lot of sense.

  • irshkay - 15 years ago

FOX NEWS, THE QUESTION SHOULD BE:
DO YOU WANT OBAMA OR THE GOVERNMENT IN CONTROL OF 'ANY' HEALTH CARE-------your results of your poll would be much different!

  • irshkay - 15 years ago

Stay out of our schools, our banks, our private insurance, our medical records, our comments on social network sites------STOP COMPILING DATA ON US CITIZENS! Communism won't be tolerated in USA, Prez!

  • LORRAINE - 15 years ago

This is certainly a total 100% CLUNKER ADMINISTRATION!!!! The GOP needs to plan a strategy to help us. Please, I am begging the Republicans to do something. I am scared with BO as President. Americans should be less worried about the economy and more scared about our safety. Without safety there will be no economy. American People "WAKE UP"

  • Jeff - 15 years ago

NO! He's failing miserably and ANY policy drafted would be a total disaster. Hopefully he will continue his hate filled, racist strategy and all the world will see his true character. This president and administration has proved to be anti-American, anti capitalism, anti freedom & liberty and anti constitution. He should be impeached for a multitude of reasons and we better start beating that drum loud and constantly.

  • Leanne Pleshek - 15 years ago

The reason I voted no on this poll is because I don't trust Mr. Obama or his administration, therefore, I don't believe he is capable of presenting any new strategies that would remedy the concerns most Americans have related to healthcare. In addition, if he tried, would you trust him?

  • Ella Harelson - 15 years ago

The President should stay out of our health care and start being a president!
Has he flown over California and declared it an emergency and offered some help for those people who have lost everything? And stay our of our childrens schools. Their parents can tell the children all they need to know about our president. I am sick of all the lies and czars.

The Liberals that voted for this nutcase need to wake up and smell the coffee. We all know our healthcare system needs change but a few small changes are what's necessary not a complete takeover by the government. The government is incapable of running anything effectively and efficiently. They have proven that over and over again. We wouldn't be even talking about this if they hadn't already screwed up the programs we have in place now. When the Liberal's talk about lies it is our government lying to us not the other way around and if the Liberals believe in socialism then go to a socialistic nation and leave America to those of us that believe in freedom, free enterprise, personal responsibility, and all the beliefs that this country was founded on. Our forefathers would be embarassed at what we've done to this country

  • David - 15 years ago

I think the plan put forth by the Obama administration and the Democrats is a great plan for our country. Unfortunately the Republican leadership has taken this opportunity to put politics before the people of our nation, by spreading lies and misconseptions. It's time the Republicans get on board and start thinking about the people not their party. Anyone who thinks that the healthcare system isn't broken in this country has obviously never been sick or works for the insurance companies or their cable news programs are sponsored by them.

Think about it this . . . if your home were in need of even a major repair, would you just tear down the entire house and then at great expense rebuild from virtually scratch? I don't think so.

  • mr bob - 15 years ago

what i am reading is that almost 100% of respondees are for mr obama to scrap what he is doing completely. 16,531 want him to change what he is doing and 6357 want him to just get out of health care completely. sounds good to me.

  • davidmc - 15 years ago

Barefootfreddie...............everyone wants everyone to have health care and everyone wants everyone to have the best care possible. I don't have health care for my family but it's not just about health care with Obama!
If it was only about the best care for everyone there would be NO PROBLEM but it's not about health care with him!

Did you know in either of the bills there are tons of "PORK"? Stupid projects that have NOTHING to do with health care?

Watch what you ask for..............you just might get it!!!

  • davidmc - 15 years ago

Barefootfreddie...............I would encourage you to study about Israel and "SAUL".
Christians owe you NO explanation but I asure you that in time, maybe your time or later the truth will be seen and you guys will be the "foolish"!
The problem is that the damage will already have been done!

  • davidmc - 15 years ago

Why did 98% of the blacks vote for Obama? I am excited as the next guy to see a black President just NOT this one!
All those who voted for him because he is black should have just sat back and waited because this one has ruined the thought!
I bet there will NEVER be another black President all because they just couldn't wait. They had to take the first thing coming.

The only way there will be another black President will be if the blacks stand up against him in truth not color and let the world know he is the wrong one.

I am also in favor of and would vote for the first woman President just not Hilery! If she had become President I guarantee you there would never be another chance for a woman again!

And Catholics...........Obama got 69% of their vote..........what the hell..........what happen to "abortion"?

Since most of us feel the United States is a Christian Nation and Christian means Christ-Like, I ask all to post Biblical principles of capitalism promoted by Jesus Christ as opposed to His Liberal teachings---I invite both Conserative and Liberal to search all books of the Bible---Simply post verse and chapter to uphold your beliefs on healthcare, charity, the poor, widows and the elderly---Then, simply look in the mirror and say" Yes, Jesus, I Am A Born Again Christian and My Actions Prove That"--Simple Enough--

After 35 years of hard work I pay $900.00 per month health insurance from a $1,500. pension per month for me and my disabled wife--That on top of a large deductible and 20% co-pay---$35.00 co-pay on each mo. prescription---Yet since 1948 our tax money has gone to pay for guaranteed health-care for every man, woman and child in Israel---We are content to pay Billions to stabilize the nations of the Middle East, Yet refuse to provide Health-Care for our OWN Children. Is it Socialism?? No, It's what we used to call taking care of our Neighbor , Friend, Each Other--Take time to read your Bible--Are You Ashamed Jesus Was A True Liberal??

As a registered Democrat who believes strongly in our Constitution, individual freedom, and the upholding of our nation as a Republic, there is no way that I would support HR3200 as it’s written. You can spin it any way you want, but the intentionally confusing legalese and vagueness of the actual details relative to the specific impact of this bill are totally unacceptable. A used car dealer wouldn’t even try to pass off something this poorly written as a contract, because nobody in their right mind would sign off on it. I would most certainly be open to a public health care “OPTION”….but not THIS thing. The monumental cost to the American taxpayers alone is enough to give one pause. As far as I’m concerned, lawmakers on both sides of the aisle need to do a reality check and do right by the American people…….. by going back to the drawing board and working together to develop healthcare legislation/reform that our country can afford and will truly benefit our citizens.

Do you REALLY think we should give that twit any more control of our future! ! ! Use Bill O'Reilly or Glen Beck to gain public confidence? They are both jokes to the educated america. Their shows are like a bad B movie. They provide false facts and incite fanatics. They are in the ranks with Jim Jones (god rest his followers souls)

  • CoolAide - 15 years ago

We currently insure 40 million high risk citizens on Medicare. Obama is asking for private or public insurance for another 40 million healthy individuals. The problem is not political or financial, it's philosophical - is medical care a human right or is it a privilege for those who can pay?

  • John DelQuadro - 15 years ago

Not just a new strategy, but he needs to devise a new plan all together. Then, allow himself to be interviewed by Bill OReilly and Glenn Beck to explain the plan. Survive them, and I think that would go a long way toward gaining publlic confidence.

  • James Kvetan - 15 years ago

Of the reported 47 million without health INSURANCE (not health care), 10 million are non-citizens, 18 million (the age 34 and under crowd) choose not to have it even though their employerys do offer it, 14 million earn at least $50K per year with 7 million making in excess of 75K but choose not to buy it. And then there's the 14 million who temporarily do not have insurance because they are between jobs or laid off.
Do the math! Why do we want to let the government spent $1 trillion of tax payer money to set up another bureaucracy for only 5 million people who ligitamately don't have insurance. Would'nt a simple voucher system by which these people could buy basic insurance from a private insurance company be more efficient and effective?
No one is or can be refused health CARE (even illeagles) under a 1968 feredal law.

I am a registered republican. Enough of the Nazi, Communist talk. It shows ignorance and is embarassing for the country. Are all of you brainwashed?? Can you not think and listen on your own? For 50 plus years we have needed healthcare for all. It still is not done and will not be done in a bipartisan manner. Not because it can't. But because the minority party does not want it passed on the other parties watch. The insurance companies are not going to go bankrupt either. Many forms of insurance have a government/state option. Believe it or not many of you are lousy drivers!!! It is scary how pliable people are. These people that were at some of the town hall meetings are mindless puppets. I can't call them individuals and they cannot think for themselves. It is ironic how the republicans have invited their guest to meetings. I have not heard one item that the republicans propose for healthcare. Also, I am still waiting to see their budget!!!

  • MRBOB81 - 15 years ago

Never before have I paid attention to our government and never again will I make that same mistake. It is time to take this country back from our self-indulgent, corrupt, egotistical Senators, Congressmen, and President. They are driving this country down the road to ruin. We need to vote them all out of office, put some honest people in, limit their terms so they cannot be corrupted by special interest groups, and put this country back to what it used to be. Our forefathers created this great nation and our politicians have almost completely ruined it but it's not too late if we act now. We must not get complacent and allow them to win the battle we have started. We are a country that forgives easily and in many ways that's a good thing but in this case we must not falter and we must not fail or they will completely ruin our way of life. We're almost there now!!

I do not think that they should worry about the republicans. I think that they should pass a Health car bill with the public option. Expand medicare to all and let people buy additional coverage if they want to. He should raise the taxable income for SS & Medicare to $250,000. Everyone should pay a % of their income no exceptions for lower incomes. Illegal immigrants should not have any Social Services. Nor should any future high school dropouts. Education is key for a personal responsibility. Helping those who can't help themselves is one thing. Having the system taken advantage of is another. And we all know someone who is!

Obama has hired Van Jones and Mark Lloyd who are both professed Communist who have said this in videos and have said on those videos that they are in favor of the dictator Chavez and want that revolution and that dictator in Obama. How much clearer does this need to be for the people of America? Representative Waters loves Communist Cuba!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Justin - 15 years ago

after looking through so many comments people have left, i have to ask, do you people honestly believe that Obama's grand plan is to take over the government and turn America into a dictatorship? and saying that he has caused more damage than any president before him is just plain stupid because he hasn't been in office for more than a year yet. In a matter of two years into the Bush admin., more people had their civil rights being trampled on than ever before and we were in a war that made little sense to anyone domestically or internationally. if we were ever close to a dictatorship it was under George W Bush and his "executive mandates". But I guess disagreeing with almighty Fox News would make me a domestic terrorist huh? America is being destroyed by the people who would rather argue over Obama's intentions rather improve what is eating away at this country.

The whole health care bill needs to be scrapped. Start by fixing some of the things that need to be addressed with what we have. Wake up people - just think of your experiences with the DMV, Post Office, IRS,
Amtrak, Medicare, Medicaid, Social Security, etc. When has the government ever done anything without wasting at least 1000% before anything gets done. Remember the Dept. of Defense and their ridiculous bills for things that they purchased. How many of you have ever paid such ridiculous prices for tools?

  • Helen Zaguirre - 15 years ago

I am afraid that this egotistical president will push his agenda down our throats no matter what we want. He is like a spoiled adolescent who gets his own way no matter what the consequences. He has done more damage to this country in six months than every president before him taken together. I do not know whether we can survive another three and a half years with this man in charge.

  • Molly the mobster - 15 years ago

If mormon crickets and oysters are more important than people in medicare than I do not trust any bill where they sneak in IRS penalties into the health care bill. Bills need to be no more than 3 pages long so not to sneak, be definitive and plain so they can not twist it into something else. Needs to say no abortion funding, need to say no end of life, need to say no public option, need to say no rationing, need to say tort reform, need to have 3 trillion in surplus not deficit or put the unused stimulus against the deficit, need to have a bill for the people not against it. No more trust! No more spending. No illegals and send them back to reenter legally. Then expand medicare, medicaid for uninsured and fund it more not cut./

Obama will not state what his true thoughts are because he wants to always remain on the winning side, no matter what that is. He is building his resume, he thinks, to be ruler of the world.

  • DOYLE HANSEN - 15 years ago

He shouldn't change plans, he should dump the whole idea and let the states formulate their own plans. Then look at torte reform, etc.

  • nomad 2003 - 15 years ago

Let's get one thing straight... it is NOT Obama's adminstration... it is Rob Emmanuel and Alexrod that run everything and push things. Obama is the SALESMAN.

Show me that the government can run Medicare correctly then we can talk about anyother option.
The HR3200, is more a take over, build government, and a future "hole in the ocean" to put all the tax dollars we do not have.

  • gale hacker - 15 years ago

MUCH ADO ABOUT NOTHING!!!! THEY DON'T CARE WHAT WE AS AMERICANS THINK. THEY CONTROL THE VOTES AND WILL DO WHAT THEY WANT REGARDLESS. THAT HAS ALWAYS BEEN THEIR PLAN.

  • Glenn Portwood - 15 years ago

Unlike many in Congress, I have read part of the House bill. The President needs to concentrate on insurance reform and providing for the 16 million (plus or minus), not the ficticious 42 million, who need healthcare.Forget the massive federal bureaucracyand fix Medicare and Medicaid, possibly extending them to cover theose who cannot get insurance.

obama needs to give up greed for power and socialism and go what's right for a CHANGE!!

  • mlw - 15 years ago

Obama's legacy is on the line. If he pushes his health care plan through it will only knock this country down. The cost of health care is a problem. What he needs to do is drop this whole health care bill and develop some health care reform "teams", each team specifically assigned to address a particular problem within the American health care system and come up with solutions that could then ultimately be presented to the American public.

  • mrpitchfork - 15 years ago

We don't need government controlled health care! What we need to do is dump the laws that keep health care and corporations in the wallet of America! That would be real change. Let the free market decide the price! Get rid of the laws that prevent us from buying insurance in different states from where we live or work. It's already the governments fault that prices are high. This really about a power grab by the extreme left.

  • I.M.Dem - 15 years ago

If the President really wants something, he should use his influence to push it through. In 2010 he will lose some support in the House and likely the supermajority in the Senate. The time to get what he wants is now. Forget about bipartisanship. The American system is not made for it.

American needs to scrap the plan, and many other ideas the president has put into his agenda. America is sick of Socialism and Islamic ideals.

  • Hilary Walker - 15 years ago

Yes, by all means. I really enjoy hearing him put his feet in his mouth. If you listen to what he doesn't say, or read between the lines, you can usually figure out what kind of smoke and mirrors he is promoting. Example, don't cut services to the seniors, but cut way back on the reimbursements for those services, which are already way too small compared to cost, and they womn't be available. Why doesn't anyone mention that most on Medicare either have to have a supplemental insurance plan, or an advantage plan bercause of the cuts in medicare already.

  • AG from Texas - 15 years ago

I think Obama has proven nothing in his little time he has been in the White House. He is trying to do to much at one time and that just doesn't work. His healthcare plan is a joke, no body wants the government taking over everything that the United States has worked hard for. We for sure do not not want the government taking over the healthcare system, I for one want to keep my doctors and my healthcare plan that I WORK HARD FOR!

  • JHDCleveland - 15 years ago

Since when is the government in the health care business? Dr's, nurses, hospitals and the likes are in the health care business. All government does is use tax payere dollars to pay for some health care expenses. We need to stop talking about government like they are a for-profit company. Everytime government sticks their nose in areas where they have no experience, they manage to mess it up! Leave health-care to the professionals and have government only deal with those issues that "we the people" gave them in the constitution!

  • Bob Anderson - 15 years ago

  • Jason - 15 years ago

The Dems don't need a new strategy, they need to drop this whole topic going into the fall. It's too hot! Obama, jamming this social doctrine down people's throats will end up being the Dems SUICIDE pill! --- Yikes! hard to watch them do this to themselves!

  • ken - 15 years ago

Obama must exhibit some leadership, some common sense, and some intelligence. He seems to be lacking in all three as he tries to destroy America's economy and freedoms.

  • Marilyn - 15 years ago

For someone who is supposed to represent all Americans, he sure is spending lots of time ignoring what we are saying to him. Use those ears God gave you to listen, we feel forced into a socialist form if life and WE DON"T WANT IT. Get out of our lives and take care of the government mess, pay your own bills, get congress members to pay their own taxes, get fair and constitutional judges on the benches, stop trying to make this Utopia and make it safe. We can't afford to pay for your plans. Change the name of "Democrats" to "Socialists" because that is what they really are now. Get some respect of "Life" whether it is unborn yet or getting old. The rich can leave and go to a country that wants them and their business-you will drive them all away and the jobs will go with them. Slow down and be realistic-Rome wasn't built in a day and it was destroyed from within, and they had power hungry leaders too.

  • Pat Walker - 15 years ago

Obama needs to drop his Socialist agenda. The Majority of US Citizens have voted 'No' in the polls. ONLY 4 pages are needed to reform healthcare. 1. All insurance cos. (except HMOs and existing co-ops where physical plant is involved) should be available nation-wide. 2. Ins. should belong to the person, thus being portable. 3. No one should be dropped because they get sick or traumatically injured. There should be a high-risk pool for those already denied coverage, with these folk spread out amongst ins. cos. with, perhaps, a tax write-off for the cos. that insure these folk. 4. Tort reform.

    Sincerely,

  • Greg Gonzales - 15 years ago

Mr. Obama needs to rethink and retool his notions about healthcare. He must understand by now how vehemetly the Majority of Americans Oppose his current ideas. Mr. Obama WE Live in a Democracy! For that reason YOU and your Leftist cohorts need to realize the Will of the People and NOT your VISION takes precedence. In the healthcare debate.

  • Jennifer W - 15 years ago

Yes he should take a new strategy and that's to listen to the people! This isnt what "we the people" are requesting. Overhaul the whole system for 45 million uninsured people (11 million of those are illegals), does that really make sense? We have the best health care in the world. If it aint broke don't fix it!! Join us in DC on 9/12 to get out point across!! 912dc.org!!

  • S Healy - 15 years ago

The new strategy should be to leave the health care alone. Go on another vacation.

  • Manuel Lopez - 15 years ago

Obama does not need a new strategy! he needs to give it up and move on to something else. We do not need the government to take over our health care.

  • Jacqui - 15 years ago

Obama might be the leader of something but the leader of a free world? No. He needs to please tell the American people that the government option is a program that will get bigger and bigger and it will NEVER get smaller. The threat of private health insurance being squeezed out is very real. Actually, he has said it in an interview before - that it might take 10, 15 or 20 years and it is true. Anybody with an ounce of common sense can figure that one out. People will not notice it in the first couple of years but give it about 5 years and then the other shoe will drop and we will all be paying higher taxes and be getting less healthcare.

  • J Clark - 15 years ago

No, stay the course. This is supposed to be the smartest and greatest man to ever hold public office and he has all the answers to everything. We should never question him because he is superior in every way. He told us he knew what to do so let him do it. Thanks to all of you who just HAD to have this nightmare in the White House...having fun now?

  • Chris Delahoussaye - 15 years ago

He should quit trying to implement health care bill. We are in enough debt as it is. Let's work on getting America back on track to the country it was meant to be. Let capitalism work.

  • Chris - 15 years ago

No matter what plan Obama, Democrats or even Republicans come up with, the lobby groups will do their level best to shoot it down.

Whatever plan that is put forward needs to address several key issues, among them: Reasonable caps on Malpractice awards and the elimination of healthcare for profit.

Countries with "socialized" healthcare aren't immune from Malpractice... doctors in Canada have to carry Malpractice insurance just like American doctors do. However, as the damages awarded in Canadian malpractice suits are significantly lower than similar US suits, the cost of insurance for the doctor is significantly less. As doctors transfer these costs to their patients, a reduction in their insurance premiums would (or should) be passed along in the form of reduced patient fees.

For an insurance company of any type (auto, home, medical) to make money, the equation is simple... take in more money (premiums) than you pay out. When you think about it, the perfect client for an insurance company is one that is:
    1. A dependent on their parent's plan from birth
    2. Moves directly to their own plan after college
    3. Gets hit by a bus and dies instantly at 55 years old.
The perfect healthcare company, from a customer's point of view, should be set up as a non-profit... at the end of the day, a company's costs should be equal to their expenditures. However, in a for-profit system, the shareholders would go nuts at this outcome... so companies are "rewarded" for denying expensive procedures.

Costs also need to be controlled... if an MRI costs $650 (as mine did at a private clinic in Montreal, Quebec, Canada), it shouldn't cost $1000 in Maine. Having one central payer (in this case, the government) will help standardize costs across all states.

Both sides are right when it comes to healthcare... there needs to be a government option (a non-profit option, from the Democrat side) and there needs to be significant lowering of costs (malpractice insurance, standardization of pricing, etc from the Republican side).

While both sides may be right, the antagonistic nature of American politics today will prevent a joint program from coming into being, and the American people will suffer as a result. Adding to the rancor are the lobbyists... paid by insurance and drug companies who are making a profit on the backs of our sick and elderly.

You want a villan in all this... Dems, GOP and Obama aren't where you should look. These groups look at a broken system and want it to change for the better (they just have different ways of accomplishing that goal). No, the true villains are those who look at this broken system, where legitimate claims are rejected, ~50 million are uninsured and medical bankruptcies are all to common, and they fight to maintain the status quo.

  • Steve Sims - 15 years ago

Yes on new strategy: "Hands Off" - try that, idiot!
We are victims of our own luxury: Democracy! The majority won; I guess - or was the fix in with ACORN and deceased voters? Bunch of thugs / Idiots (did I use that already?) Let's buy him a 12 pack and show him the door! And take that stretched face, bubble-headed dufus Nancy Pelosi with ya! - Idiot!

  • Margaret Cirone - 15 years ago

No, he should throw the whole mess in the garbage where it belongs, along with cap and trade, his deal with NEA for art that promotes his agenda on education, energy, health care, the environment, and his hiring of communist/radical czars who have never been vetted, bailouts, prosecution of CIA employees, release of terrorists....the list goes on and on. This president is the worst thing that has ever happened to this great country and the 2010 and 2012 elections can't come soon enough. God Help America!!!

  • William Christopherson - 15 years ago

No! Obama started this disaster and any change will contain the basics to evenutally get his way. Why encourage a change that could increase the potential for this horrible idea to pass. Encourage him to keep the same garbage intact and let it fail on it's merits. No! No! No! Change
