CJ's is the best softserve and atmosphere around. It is like you are on the boardwalk at the beach somewhere. You can't beat it. The place instantly puts you in a vacation mood. The family that owns it also does alot for the community!

CJ's might have good soft serve, but Brusters is homemade, hand-scooped ice cream. All made fresh daily in the store. When I have a choice I like the hand scooped ice cream.

Brusters is doing a fundraiser for the Middle School Band in Madison at the Taste of the Mountains Street festival on Saturday 9/5/09. Come and try the delicious ice cream and support the local Middle School Band -- they are raising money for their spring trip!

Why is Bruster's even in this poll...hands down CJ's is best! Soft serve rules...can't get that at home but you can dip ice cream out of your own freezer. Oh and the people are real friendly at CJ's!!

Brewsters is good ice cream, but WAY OVERPRICED. CJ's is awesome and affordable.

CJ's is the best ice cream in town! It has over 25 different flavors compared to what Bruster's would have that's pretty awesome. They also have a wide variety of milkshakes piess and blasters that are AWESOME..the brownie boat is especially delicious! They have great ice cream, great music, a great feel, and very nice girls who work there who are always smiling!!!

CJ's may be the best Soft serve, but Brusters has 40 flavors daily of ice cream, frozen yogurt, italian ice, sorbet, sherbet, plus all of the typical ice cream treats! Plus a repertoire of over 140 flavors available, there is no comparison. And the prices are not higher, they are very affordable and comparable to any other ice cream place in town. Plus for Banana Split lovers, not only do they have a banana split ice cream flavor - Thursdays is half price banana splits when you bring your own banana!

CJ's is by far the best Ice cream i have ever had. Brusters is alrighttt, but i dont believe they are hand made, yea maybe handmade by someone else, not them.. Id much rather eat CJ's, ive had much better experience with the costumer service at CJ's than at Brusters also... CJ's CJ's CJ's best ice cream you can get..

Charlie is right, going to CJ's reminds us of being at the beach. The only thing they are missing is palm trees and I think if they could grow them they would. They are all about what makes their customers happy! It's CJ's & CJ's ONLY for my family and me!!!!!!!

You can get Bruster's anywhere - and there is nothing special about it. At CJ's, it's not only the best soft serve EVER, but the atmosphere just puts you in the mood to head to the beach!

For me, it's the caramel sundae and CJ's. Hands down - Bruster's is not even an option. If I want hand scooped ice cream, I'll open my own freezer and stay at home. But why do that when CJ's is there?

CJ's soft serve is the best ice cream in town! Who wants to pay an arm and a leg for ice cream? Not me, so I go to CJ's where the ice cream is affordable but so delicious! Brusters may be good, but if I wanted a scoop of ice cream I would go to the grocery store and buy a whole gallon for the price of a small cup at Brusters. I mean I don't have a soft serve machine at home, so I go to CJ's. Plus it's an enjoyable experience when all you see are smiling faces :] The atmosphere at CJ's is relaxing and makes you want to kick back and enjoy your delicious soft serve cone that comes in just about any flavor you could want! Plus the milkshakes are so so good! So if you're looking for a good place for ice cream that you can't get out of your freezer, CJ's is the place for you!!!

I agree with Joy..
Bruster's is WAY WAY over priced! Not only that, but CJ's Soft Serve is by far waaay better tasting. They've got evvverything, not just ice cream.. and they continue to come up with delicious combinations. Something new alll the time. If you haven't been there.. GO! Not Bruster's (too overrated)

I think this poll is a little premature. How can anyone compare Brusters and CJ's? I love the atmosphere at CJ's - its a great idea. But Brusters is not even open so comparing the "Beach" at CJ's to nothing at Brusters is just silly. As for Ice Cream - I think most people around here have probably never even tried Brusters. Again comparing to CJ's is like comparing apples and oranges. CJ's is softserve, Brusters is scooped. As for some of the previous posters - yes Brusters makes all of the ice cream in the store and the waffle cones too. Go to the store and fredricksburg and they'll show you if you ask. They are really nice over there. We'll have to wait for Brusters to open to see the real competition!

Who needs fancy ice cream. Just give me my chocolate and vanilla twist. I'm sticking with CJ's. I've been going there for 5 years and have never been disappointed.

Where the heck is CJ's? I've never even heard of it.

Let see if I have this right. CSE wants to compare a non-existing business in Culpeper to a very successful 5+ years of CJ's Soft Serve. CJ's, in addition to having the coolest "Boardwalk this side of Ocean City", has been at every downtown concert or event. Host many benefit events. Sponsors many local youth initiatives. Your paper even featured a picture of CJ's providing a " Soft Serve Summer Social" recently.
On any warm summer nights in Culpeper, CJ's IS busy serving good Soft Serve Ice Cream.....Not spelling Corporate Franchise names in grass fields.

CJ"S IS THE BEST!!!! My favorite is the "HOT FUDGE SUNDAE"...it can't be beat!!!!!! Try one and you will become a regular customer. I visit Culpeper every 2-3 months from out of state and my first priority is having a "HOT FUDGE SUNDAE at CJ"S...why go anywhere else.

Hmm...what a contest. From the comments, one store seems scared of competition from a store that isn't even open yet.

what i think is funny is how you can clearly see the difference on these comments... you have the down to earth CJ's costumers telling you what they really like, and then you have the obvious Brusters people coming on here commenting trying to defend themselves... thats whats funny right there... CJ's is by far the place to be ive been there many many times and will never go anywhere else.. Stop trying to defend yourself bruster people its just a poll...

CJ's is the best on the beach! Why go anywhere else? Everyone who works there is soooo nice. They even have a special cone for your dog. What more do you want? If you like creamy, rich, soft serve....go to CJ's and take along your best friend.

I have been to the Brusters in Fredericksburg several times and they have great ice cream, and yes they do make all the ice cream and even the waffle cones and bowls in the store. They also have the Nathan's hot dogs too and from what I've heard the one coming to Culpeper will too. One thing to keep in mind is yes CJ's does have good soft serve, but they are a seasonal store. So for all of you that seem to be suggesting that you will never go to Brusters, you might be changing your tune on a nice day during the winter months. I'm all for trying new things, so lets keep an open mind Culpeper.

Go to CJ's-here's why:
Good ice cream, lots of choices, fun atmosphere, friendly folks.
Local ownership (not a chain).
And finally my teenager works there. The more money she makes the less
I spend!!!!

Obvious Brusters people and Obvious CJ's people! OK I'll admit I'm a Brusters Person. Not a worker - a customer. I work and live in Fredricksburg and go to that store once in a while for lunch. The Nathan's chili dog combo is my favorite. And I always save room for the ice cream. I like the banana split on Thursdays (1/2 price) but mostly I get the milkshakes, made with any flavor of ice cream you want! New York Cheesecake is a favorite. The people there are great and the owner seems to be out in the schools and other events in the area a lot. I've never been to CJ's but I'm a scooped ice cream guy! Good luck in Culpeper!

CJ's is the Best. Nice and rich, soft and smooth. There is nothing any better. I wish We had one nearer my home. Then I could get some everyday.

Brusters people stop getting so defensive and jealous just because people in culpeper who have had CJ's for 5 years now, are of course going to say that they love CJ's better and i mean how could they not LOVE CJ's it's FABULOUS...and for the person who said a banana split would be banana soup well i definitely get that everytime i go and the ice cream stays COLD! so it doesn't matter if it's hard or soft served ice cream, ice cream is ice cream! you can't just get mad because people are sharing their opinions on their favorite ice cream thats what this poll is asking us as customers to do. it's a little imature when people get all bent out of shape because they can't handle someone elses opinion!! CJ's i'm all for you the best ice cream IN TOWN!!! Brusters should be out of this poll it's not even IN TOWN!

CJ's is a great place to go anytime. The staff is friendly and area is clean, not to say that the ice cream is great and portions are large.

Cj's is a very family oriented place to eat ice cream and relax on the so-called "board walk" away from the ocean. I have always loved soft serve ice cream and have had the opportunity to eat at CJ's for the past couple of years. It is a great place to go!
