In the morning everyone who got stupidly angry over this poll should wake up and feel embarrassed. Commentators have been telling others to go and die (cyberwasteland) and some considered breaking their purchased DVDs of Firefly and Serenity (Grey_Area) all because of an internet poll.
Others clearly lost sleep (wookie1972) while most just seemed to loose brain cells (CoffinDodger) as a normally respectable and inoffensive blog decended into utter venom and hatred over the results.
For these people it was something personal, a grand battle to be championed and won - no loss of dignity or perspective could stop them. In a way, they really were their own Big Damn Heroes, holding back the tide of River Tam and Summer Glau fans valiantly. Well done you mighty fine people, you might have become screaming idiots, but God still thought you were too pretty to die.
Meanwhile the quiet and resourceful Browncoat army operated behind the scenes, spurred on by the flurry and vicious anger and personal insults thrown at them. 'Don't bait the trolls' really would've been an apt way for the commentators of io9 to respond, or in this case 'don't have an aneurysm over an inconsequential poll'.
In tomorrows summary of the internet I'll tell you all about Anonymous and their continued efforts to overthrow Scientology from desktops and how one brave little Kotaku readers managed to wield the mighty ban hammer.

Are you kidding me? There could be a match up of River Tam vs A Universe Eating Monster That Cannot Be Destroyed and the fanboys and girls would vote for River Tam. I loved Firefly too but this is just stupid.

Maybe if people stopped acting like this was the 9/11 of science fiction whoever rigged the vote wouldn't be doing it with such obvious glee and abandon?
Personally I'm enjoying seeing people getting oddly wound up over a silly poll on a fairly mediocre blog.
