Should Vick Get a Second Chance?

NO CHILDREN WERE MURDERED, YOU HAVE HIM MISTAKEN WITH A WHITE MAN----------White men that fornicate, abuse children, rape women, pedophiles, child porn, FUCK animals... TWICE and HUNT animals for SPORT, ARE given a second chance to become prosperous individuals within society after serving LESS THAN TWO YEARS. WHY NOT VICK? The media has misrepresented his involvement, he never physically killed those dogs, he financed the fighting and provided the land, but because he was a figure head, it makes more sense to attack him then the other men, they don't have assets and REAL money that the state could make them pay, because VICK was a young black male with MONEY, you know the HIGHEST EVER PAID, before being stripped of that money. He pleaded guilty because these "white courts" would have given him an even stiffer penalty than TWO YEARS, if he made them spend their money and time to uphold the law. (ONLY GOD CAN JUDGE MAN) FUCK YOUR HATE!!!!

If it were your children he had murdered how would feel? I would like to know how these guys feel about it: 100’s of Pitbull Pictures

U guys care bout ur dogs more the ppl. UR DOGS FOOD IS PROBALY BETTER THEN THE GREWL U SERVE IN THIRD WORLD COUNTRIES. GROW THE F*** UP PPL its starting to F***** piss me off. (dont worry bout my spelling or grammar)

  • WilHar - 15 years ago

I fail to see how Mr. Vick is being given a second chance. He is resuming his career after having paid his debt to society. If he were an accountant, IT professional, fireman or baggage handler would we even be having this discussion?

Leave the man alone and let him do his job--leading the Eagles to a Super Bowl victory!

  • Rajin Cajun - 15 years ago

Second chances are for little kids who aren't very good with the bat at home plate. Psycos don't deserve a second chance. A second chance was given to those two wierdos in Antioch, Ca. Our news media is full of people like Vick who were let loose on society again by bleeding heart, or well paid off, judges, just so they could go back d and do worse things. Would all of you that think Vick deserves another chance trust him with the pet that you love, or perhaps your son or daughter?

  • Victor Nicholson - 15 years ago

Short and Simple. I will not see the Eagles play until he is gone! Maybe not then, very poor judgement by team owner and the NFL.

    vtn

  • G.A. - 15 years ago

Absolutely not! Vick does should not get a second chance! His second chance is that he becomes a free man in Society, with a Felony criminal record, and that he no longer gets to be an over paid thug with washed up talent. Vick should be fired by all his endorsers as well. Lets go back about 100 years... lets say punish him by having him fight a pack of Pitt Bulls. Now that would be something worth Gambling against, but in our soft-hearted society, BOO-HOO, that would be inhumane. To all those civil rights advocates that say "Oh poor thing, it was only his first time doing something wrong..." Shut Up! This is why our society is crime riddled. Is he what you want your children looking up to? Not mine, Michael Vick is a four letter word in my household. Teach them to look up to a soldier or someone who has actually contributed to society... R.I.P. Pat Tillman.

If Vick showed up at your back door, hungry, abandoned, dehydrated... next to a stray dog in the same condition... If you had the choice to treat just one, who would you choose? My choice is the dog. I will shew Vick away.

It also PISSES me off that the NFL let him back in. Shame on you... Maybe Pet Rose should have played Football.

By the way, I am a new fan of MAGDEN...

  • ToddOX - 15 years ago

NO!! Mistreating animals is unacceptable. They can't really defend themselves. They can't say no and leave on their own. I hope he gets both legs broken on the first play of the regular season!!

  • Ann - 15 years ago

If the offense had been doing recreational drugs (which I don't approve) I would say give him another chance, but to torture helpless animals for a LONG period of time, make money at it, and only stop after he was caught, then NO he doesn't deserve another chance to make $6 million a year (or whatever the amount is). Give him another chance to go back to college, earn a degree, and make a regular living like everyone else, but he shouldn't get another chance at being a multi-millionaire!!! If it (football) ad meant so much to him why did he do it (dog fighting) in the first place.

  • RIN TIN TIN - 15 years ago

YES! of course he should be allowed to play. As long as there is a clause in his contract that if he doesn't perform to our standards we can beat, drown, electrocute and then hang him. Yeah that would be fair.
    WOOF!

  • smac74 - 15 years ago

I wonder if people would give him a second chance if it were helpless children that he tortured and murdered? My dogs are my kids. I think Vick is a POS and under no circumstances do I think he deserves a second chance in a sport where he is a roll model for small children. For those that have stated that dogs are property and not human, they obviously have never had the unconditional love offered by a dog.

  • Dave - 15 years ago

If they gave a certain US senator a second chance after Chappaquidic, I don't see a problem with a football player getting the opportunity to rejoin society.

  • Gary - 15 years ago

To those who "forgive" Vick for his "mistakes" consider this:

Imagine you saw video of Vick holding, with all his force, a dog's head under water as its legs kicked.

Image you saw video of Vick tying a dog’s legs together so he could not fight back ,and lifting it over his head and smashing it to the ground.

Imagine if you saw video of Vick placing jumper cables on the dog's ears, attaching them to a car battery and tossing them into his pool.

If we had these videos, you would also see the pleasure he took in doing this. Now tell me you still think he deserves another chance; that he has paid for his "mistakes".

The man is evil and his regrets are that he got caught. He should not be in the NFL.

  • Laura - 15 years ago

He should not be allowed to play in the NFL PERIOD!! Not just Vick, every monster who is a convicted felon should get the boot. What kind of message is it sending to young fans? If he were just a schmo off the streets, he'd be working at McDonalds or something like it flipping burgers because it is hard for convicted felons to find a respectable job much less a multi-million dollar career. So what if he did his time, that's fine for normal people not ones that are in the spotlight. This man is an animal and it's disgusting that the NFL would endorse this. Shame on every sports organization that allows players to break laws with little consequence. These organizations should hold their standards higher and stop worrying about the dollar figure. It's despicable!!

  • Shelly - 15 years ago

What he did was horrible! As an animal lover, I'm disgusted by it. BUT...it has nothing to do with football. Football is his job. I saw him interviewed alongside Tony Dungee and he truly seemed remorseful and said he'd learned a great deal through this ordeal. Isn't that what we're trying to do with criminals? Punish them, yes, but teach them how wrong their crime was so they won't do it again? Also, his very public disgrace made a lot of people aware about the mistreatment of dogs raised for the sole purpose of fighting. Maybe it even helped save a lot more dogs that might have been used for such evil. We'll never know. But let the man play football!

  • Magend - 15 years ago

    Hey Jeffery!!!
NO!!! You didn't "HAVE" to respond! But - being you did, grab your notebook and a pen and TAKE NOTES!!! School's in session!

Your Words (1): "Take it from a middle aged white guy, this is nothing more that keeping the black community quiet. Racism against whites is more widespread than the media will let you believe!"

Your words (2): "Polish him up and you still have a lump of coal. "

Your words (3): "You keep talking about Bigotry, why? You are the biggot for assuming I am. Do you think I am white? black? something else? Your spouting of bigotry is so tiresome. get a life. this is my last post. If you are white this is white guilt talking and if you are black you are hiding behind the race card. either way you are pathetic."

The profound ignorance in your above statements is STRIKINGLY OBVIOUS! But, being it appears that it is not so APPARENT and/or Obvious to you - I'll point out the clear HYPOCRISY, CONTRIDICTIONS and even psychological disconnect in YOUR words thus far!

    Point 1
In your very first comment you say "Take it from a middle aged white guy".
And then you ask in your third comment " Do you think I am white? black? something else?

Ummm, duh! My guess is that your a, hmmm?! "Middle aged white guy?"
    That's the "disconnect"!

    Point 2
Your FIRST and SECOND comments SCREAM - "I AM ANGRY THAT A BLACK GUY GOT OFF SO EASY!"
For this point, seems I need to define for you "Bigot and Prejudice"

(Bigot - : a person obstinately or intolerantly devoted to his or her own opinions and prejudices; especially : one who regards or treats the members of a group (as a racial or ethnic group) with hatred and intolerance)
(Prejudice - c : an irrational attitude of hostility directed against an individual, a group, a race, or their supposed characteristics)

In your second comment you say: ""You keep talking about Bigotry, why? You are the biggot for assuming I am." --- the TRUTH is that I ASSUMED NOTHING - your OWN words condemn you brother as it is clear from your FIRST TWO comments that you are BIASED and a Prejudiced Bigot. I am willing to bet, that if this were a WHITE guy we were talkng about - you'de be SCREAMING "LET HIM PLAY"!!! (Just a guess)

Point 3 - then, to top it ALL off, YOU have the GALL to step out and call "ME" an IDIOT, not only once, but 4 times and even SPELL "RELIGIOUS" wrong (it's spelled with an I, not an E) twice in your "How did ya put it?!" - (BABBLE RAMBLE?!)
    "GET A LIFE" you say?!
Ohhh - and "IMAGINE" is spelled with one M, bye-the-way!

You sir - are an IGNORAMUS!!!

And YES - I AM RELIGIOUS!!!
G-dSpeed and have a good life!!!

  • G DELZOPPO - 15 years ago

This psycho, brutally and mercilessly tortured and then killed innocent animals including family pets that he used as bait! They were ripped to shreds while he laughed. This is a fact witnessed by his cohorts and testified in court. Michael Vick didn't just break the law , he , in the most cruel fashion mutilated and tortured and killed animals who feel pain, have feelings etc.. Yes he did his so called time, but that doesn't mean he should get rewarded! I believe most people are not aware of how brutal his behavior was and that "normal" people doen't do this. Please don't insult the black american [eople by saying this is just part of their culture! That's a slap!

  • TwoCents - 15 years ago

The bottom line is Vick is good for business and debates such as this one are exactly why. The NFL runs a business; not the legislative and judicial systems (I realize this statement can also be debated). He has served time legally and has been publicly humiliated world-wide. He had two choices. Crawl into a corner and whine about how good he had it or get back on his feet and attempt to regain respect. I didn't like the man before and I certainly don't like him after this incident, but, I do respect his decision to get back up. If you feel like he hasn't been punished enough, talk to the political parties that sentenced him; not the NFL.

  • GERALD DELZOPPO - 15 years ago

HE DOESN'T DESERVE TO PLAY FOOTBALL! HE TORTURED ANIMALS, NOT MISTREATED.. TORTURED!! HE IS A COLD BLOODED MUDERER! IF I WAS A PHILADELPHIA FAN I WOULD BOYCOTT THAT TERRIBLE ORGANIZATION!

  • no way - 15 years ago

I will boycott the eagles games.

  • jghinut - 15 years ago

People who cannot forgive, deserve no forgiveness. It's not your place to judge his past. Most of you are white, and grew up middle to upper income in comfortable little suburban homes. If you grew up in the hood where fighting to live was the only lifestyle that got you out and you learned those crooked ways growing up, your perspective and judgment would be skewed too. So judge not lest ye be judged... He's changing, paid his public price and has a burden to bare. Give him a chance, this is America and we don't impugn beyond the law.

  • mac - 15 years ago

All I have to say is, If its ok for vick why was it not ok for Pete Rose?

  • Christopher - 15 years ago

Yo Pablo (Using "Yo" against my better judgment). What does PETA have to do with this? In fact is PETA ever relevant? What does water-boarding have to do with this? The sun, waves and/or the lack of the mainland has affected your thought process. Hello, McFly? Look, he was punished to the extent of the law and now he is out. He's free. If he is as sick as Kathy thinks he is he will do it again and he will go away for much longer. OJ killed his wife and her friend and you had people dancing in the streets because of their politics. People don't want this guy out because of their politics. If you drop you biased political agenda, who are you? If you draw a blank, you are in trouble. Take it all at face value. He's a bad guy, he got caught, payed his debt and now he is free. You cannot deny him a second chance. Well, you could but then you would be committing a crime. Go catch that wave...........

  • Pablo - 15 years ago

    yo, crissy
cool your jets, I don't like the left. Just because I don't like Vick don't mean I work for PETA. Come to Hawaii and I will show you water-boarding.

  • kathy - 15 years ago

I think a lot of people are missing the point. This guy tortured his own dogs! They say serial killers do this same thing before moving on to people. This guy is sick!!!! What goes on in someone's head that they hang or electricute their own dogs???? That is what is in this guys head. He did this stuff. If he just didn't want the losing dog anymore, why not humainly put down, but to hang the dog? What is that about? Who cares that he did a few months in jail!! He is still the same guy. He still probably has those same compulsions to torture a helpless animal (and possibly a kid or woman). Foot ball is a game (kids play games) not important in any way. I agree with those who feel he should not be given a chance ever. He had his and showed his true colors and there is no getting around that.

  • Christopher - 15 years ago

Is this question a joke? If you said "no" to this question you have lost your way as a person and as an American. He committed a crime, went to jail and now he is out. He is free to do whatever he wants now, that's how it works. Our president, congress and senate are committing far worse crimes against us and right in front of us and there are some of you that will vote all these bozos back into office.

  • Josh - 15 years ago

Of course he deserves a chance. He committed a crime, did his time and now he's a free man. If someone opposing on this forum was in the same boat, would it right to not let you ever work in your chosen field? Should you be forced to change what you do for a living because you've committed a crime? Should you not be allowed to make an excellent living because you've committed a crime? There's obvious exceptions ie: sex offenders shouldn't be kindergarten teachers. I don't approve of what he did in any way; it's deplorable. But he's paid his price according to the rules that American society has set forth. Let him move forward and hopefully prove to us all (and more importantly himself) that he has and will continue to make some positive changes in his life.

  • Pablo - 15 years ago

"as long as he don't act up again" sounds like Vick is the dog now. Guess the jokes on him.

  • Stephen Hamilton - 15 years ago

Everyone should realize that it's FOOTBALL. No matter what anyone does, rape, murder, brutalize animals.....It doesn't matter one bit. The only thing that matters is FOOTBALL and winning. Michael Vick killed and tortured his dogs because they didn't win. FOOTBALL fans don't care about anything but FOOTBALL and winning. Here is a idiot that went to college and can't do a damn thing in life but play FOOTBALL. It just goes to show you that all he know how to do in life is kill poor dogs and play FOOTBALL. Like I said, and idiot.

  • DavidC - 15 years ago

First of all I am not a Vick Fan, but he paid for his crime everyone should get a second chance to make a living? Granted he should be watch closely for bad decision again, but a long as he does not act up he should be able to play as long as any NFL team wants him to play. Hopefully this was a life changing event for him and he will not make this kind of mistake again. If so then he should be banned

  • Andy - 15 years ago

Kokabear: Here are just a few of their sponsors: Pepsi, Anheiser Busch, Verizon, Comcast, Dunkin Donuts and MasterCard. I'm sure there are a lot more.

  • kokabear - 15 years ago

I wiil boycot any sponsor that sponsor's Vick's team. The eagles.
He is skum of the highest degree.

  • DogLover - 15 years ago

Throw Vick into a locked cage with ten angry fighting dogs and let him see how it feels to be bitten and mistreated. Maybe if we are lucky, the dogs would kill him.

  • jeff - 15 years ago

Sorry , but I have to resppond.
    YOU ARE AN IDIOT.
Your religeous BS is not needed here. What the hell does Vick and dogs have to do with abortions?
    YOU ARE AN IDIOT.
You babble ramble and just say nothing.
    YOU ARE AN IDIOT.
Immagine all the unwanted fatherless people in the world if abortions were not here. We would have more cities like Philidelphia, Los Angeles, and that Scum hole New Orleans, just to name a few.
    YOU ARE AN IDIOT.
Take you preaching and preach to those who care.
    YOU ARE A RELIGEOUS FREAK.

  • Linda - 15 years ago

I agree with Cameron, people who dress their dogs up are bat-poo-crazy, and have provided a much worse situation for the dogs than Vick

  • Magend - 15 years ago

    Jeff,

Words of WISDOM!!! "Don't dish it out if ya can't take it"!!! And "YOU NEVER KNOW WHOM YOU MIGHT BE DISHING OUT TO ON THE NET!!!"
You started with me, REMEMBER!!! You have NO idea where I am, where I've been and/or where I've come from!!!
As far as my NOT spelling out G-D?! (Ref. http://www.hebrew4christians.com/)
I don't even watch FootBall and/or couldn't care less what happens to Vick's career. BUT - like many others here, I'm TIRED of the HYPOCRISY of a nation that would BURN a man for being (even Viciously Cruel as he was) to animals, yet say nothing concerning the 1,000's of "HUMAN" BABIES being SLAUGHTERED every minute!!! As though "DOGS" are worth more than a "Child"?!
Your WIFE could have an AFFAIR and run off with your children and unless YOU can prove her "MENTALLY UNFIT", you lose your children AND get hit with $1000's in Child Support!!! If you fail to pay it - you are called a "LAZY/WORTHLESS/IRRESPONSIBLE" BUMB and threatened with loss of liscense and/or JAIL because "YOU MUST BE IRRESPONSIBLE AND WORTHLESS NOT WANTING TO BE RESPONSIBLE AND RAISE YOUR CHILDREN". Yet - if a WOMAN decides she doesn't WANT to take responsibility for HER actions and RAISE HER child - then she can "KILL IT" and be PRAISED and WORSHIPPED as an advocate for "Womans Rights".....
It is EXACTLY this kind of GARBAGE that has DESTROYED this COUNTRY...
The UNFAIRNESS, INJUSTICE and RELENTLESS HYPOCRISY (on both sides of the fence - as it happens to women also) in this country is beyond Digesting!
Mike Vick's cruelties were, of course, intollerable, NO ONE in their right mind could argue that. BUT - whom are we to Judge him (Relentlessly and Continuously)?! He did his time, has paid for his CRIME - LET IT GO!!!
In "G-DS" eyes - WE ALL FALL SHORT!!! But - rather than say "BURN THEM ALL" --- He provided us a way to get "back on the field!!!" We can ALL thank "GOD" for that!!!
Blessings to ya - whether you want em or not!!!
    Shalom

  • Andy - 15 years ago

Carl: We're entitled to our judgement. We're also entitled to the decision to elect to hire him or not. We are not however, entitled to decide if anyone else can.

  • Alan - 15 years ago

Hunting is ethical if your are doing it for food, portection, or population control. Neither was the case in this situation. Plus, do you think it might have taken more than one bullet to kill a wolf? That maybe for a few seconds that the animal did suffer? That maybe the animal was shot and did manage to get away only to die a few hours later?

  • Andy - 15 years ago

Marc M: No one forced his previous employer, the Philadelphia Eagles or, anyone (for that matter) to hire him. Forgive me but, I don't see your point.

My opinion here but, since he's served his time and punishment for his crime, isn't it now his right to pursue employment? I'm pretty sure it is. Doesn't mean anyone has to like the guy.

  • cameron - 15 years ago

Dog people are crazy! I know that what he did is bad, but who cares. A dog is an animal, at least he didn't force his dogs to wear stupid sweaters.

  • Sam - 15 years ago

They were DOGS!!!! Stallworth killed a MAN and he only got a 1 year suspension and 24 DAYS in jail. Ya, what Vick did was wrong, but in comparison to the punishment Stallworth got for a crime that is an infinite amount of times worse, he should have been playing a year ago.

  • Alan - 15 years ago

Whats funny is that it was made legal because SHE made it legal. She offered any hunter who kills a wolf $150. Why you say? Because wolves hunt animals that Hunters like to target. In other words, wolves do what nature and God intended them to.

    Either way its messed up.

  • me - 15 years ago

Hunting is moral and ethical. Torturing for fun and monetary gain is not. The two should not even be in the same discussion.
Whether she is hot or not should not matter her views are hers and should be judged on their content. What she did is legal ,what Vick did is not.

  • Carl - 15 years ago

Andy, My judgement on whether he meant it or not as well as that of anyone in this country is completely relevant because we are not bound to forgive him and reward him because he completed his sentence.

Private Sector is not the government, I know it's getting harder and harder to see that.

  • Marc M - 15 years ago

I think the difference Alan is one was done legally and one wasn't.

One was the intentional torture and fighting of an animal and one was not.

    Apples != Oranges

  • Alan - 15 years ago

ME- Actually I don't mind Sara Palin. Don't really care for her politically but she a hot mama, and I can't fault her for that.

My point was that you should hold people to the same standard. Why punish one when you look the other way for another?

Next time make a valid arguement and then post.

  • Marc M - 15 years ago

    Andy, your argument is irrelevant.

His debt being repaid to society only fulfills the obligation to the state.

It does not automatically force his previous employer or any employer to hire him.

It does not automatically grant him ANY rights aside from no longer being in prison or tried again for that particular crime.

  • me - 15 years ago

    Way to go Joe

  • Andy - 15 years ago

He's accepted responsibility and paid his debts which makes anyone's judgement on whether "he meant it" or not completely irrelevant. Maybe those fellons who can't get a job working at McDonalds because of their rap sheet should have learned how to play professional sports -- its just the way the cookie crumbles. As such, they all deserve a second chance. Some will get the breaks, some won't, but we're all in charge or our own destiny. Ceste la vie.

  • me - 15 years ago

    Alan , Alan, Alan,
instead of shooting the wolves we should throw Vick out of the helicopter and let the wolves eat him.
you are obviously a left wing wacko.

  • Joe - 15 years ago

By NO way should Vick be allowed to return to the NFL. He is an icon to his hip hop culture, and many young athletes around the world.
Do we really want to send that example, of course not. His own quote tells of only feeling remorse and crying "when the prison door slammed behind him". His remorse is being CAUGHT ,not about the brutality and mistreatment of a defensive animal.
He should have been BANNED for life~!

  • whateveryousay - 15 years ago

botbot: ummm So who exactly should carry out this"eye for an eye"? This is a very hypocritical statement. You want another human being, to torture a human being who was convicted of torturing animals? Yeah I can see the justice here......? If he is God fearing, than it is God he should asking forgivness from.

  • Alan - 15 years ago

If sara palin can shoot alaskan wolves out of a helicopter and not receive any type of backlash, then Vick should be able to redeem himself.

Plus, 2 years and the loss of $140 Million is enough of a punishment.

  • me - 15 years ago

Because you have morals and the brains to know whats wrong. duh

  • L - 15 years ago

YES. He apologized and served his [very serious] sentence. Period.

  • Marc M - 15 years ago

He only says it's wrong now because he was caught.

What he did is unforgivable and he shouldn't be rewarded with millions of dollars for playing a game.

  • Mellissa - 15 years ago

It's time to move on people. He did something wrong. He KNOWS he did something wrong. He lost over 2 years of his life for what he did and now he just wants to live his life again. If murders and rapists and drunk drivers can all have second and third chances, why can't he?

Did ANY of you watch his interview on 60 minutes? if you did, I think you might understand more why he didn't think it was that wrong while he was doing it. Because, let's face it, if a cop watches what you are doing, and does nothing, then why should you stop doing it?

  • botbot - 15 years ago

    an eye for an eye

those who torture and kill animals should receive the same treatment they dished out

  • Kathy Curtis - 15 years ago

There is something mentally wrong with a person who can torture something. The professional sports arena is full of convicts, criminals and drug addicts and I believe they should all be banned from their job of choice. You loose certain privledges once you become a felon...somehow making over a million dollars a year and getting to do what he wants to do takes away the whole "felon" aspect of who this man is. Ask mainstream felons---they have a hard time getting a job at McDonalds. When we start to make excuses for one felon we may as well make excuses for all of them---and let them do whatever they want to do when they get out of prison.

I have banned pro sports a long time ago because of the morally devoid people being allowed to play...and this was long before this psychopath entered the scene.

PS...hunting for food does not belong in the discussion or in the same category as people who torture animals for sport.

  • Marty Liddell - 15 years ago

I had to turn the channel because his apology came across totally insincere. I don't believe he cares; he is just doing what he has to do to get back into the NFL. I went and located the program and watched in disgust what he did to those dogs. Anyone who views that show and says they are just dogs needs to go see a shrink. I could stomach his return if there was some sort of empathy for those animals; I think he could care less . The whole thing just comes down to another PR spin and the NFL is doing their tap dance to get him back in the game. I gotta go pet and feed my dogs they are a part of my family.

  • hehasnoshame - 15 years ago

When does any other felon get a second chance? Oh wait, only when they are a celebrity or highly visible individual. His actions were despicable. Any other felon has to check the felon box when filling out a job application. Those applications go straight to the shredder. Why should Vick be any different.

  • Iluka - 15 years ago

I thought this man deserved a second chance... until I read his convicted crimes. Do yourself a favour and actually read the attrocity of his acts in the court case. If you think this guy was just about organising dog fights, you are only scratching the surface. He personally tortured these animals in the most barbaric of ways, including electrocuting the dogs by attatching battery leads to their ears and throwing them in a swimming pool. He didn't do it once or twice but many, many times. Before you are so understanding, actually read what he did... it is horrifying.

For all those people who argue that he should get a second chance because we let people off for more severe crimes against people, that is only a simple minded "two wrongs make a right" argument. This man should have been locked away for at least 5 years hard labour no parole.

  • whateveryousay - 15 years ago

I hope all of you nay sayers never need a second chance at anything ever! You should never ask for a second chance for anything you do. A traffic ticket you know the one when you were going 80 in a 55 and the officer wrote it 'down' so your points won't affect your insurance? I know this is a minor example, but you get the point. Or a laundry list of personnal offenses we are all guilty of on a daily basis that we get a second chance for. Sure not at this magnitude, but dang, let him pass or fail on his own merit. I applaude the Eagles for having the testicle fortitude for giving him a chance!

  • jeff - 15 years ago

    HEY Magend!
I speak what i know. Obviously more than you. All you did was take some quotes from the Bible. You have no words of your own.
You keep talking about Bigotry, why? You are the biggot for assuming I am. Do you think I am white? black? something else? Your spouting of bigotry is so tiresome. get a life. this is my last post. If you are white this is white guilt talking and if you are black you are hiding behind the race card. either way you are pathetic.

  • Well Said - 15 years ago

Well Said to Marlon for his comments. Stop 'dogging' Michael Vick out...and just let it go...you people are so petty and small minded not to mention jealous because he is being well received by more people than your pee-brains could think.

  • Pat - 15 years ago

NO! Those poor defenseless animals were not given another chance. He deserves to be treated like his dogs were. I don't understand why they did not make him give a part of the 'ridiculous salary' to the Humane Society and make him work at shelters for the rest of his life. He may never own a dog again, but that won't stop him from being involved with dog fighting again...just watch. He is a piece and should not be put up an a pedestal. He is not a role model and I think it just shows what is happening to this country. And the fake tears made me sick! But in the end he has to answer to a higher court and I hope all the dogs he killed are waiting for him.

  • Daywalker - 15 years ago

Who has the right to take a life? No one....not Vick or the Humane Society. Our Justice system failed us is what the consensus is saying. Why don't we get this outcry from all of you the other million times that that perfect system failed us? Can someone pls explain who decided that a dogs life was so much more important than all the other animals sold in your grocery stores? How about the thousands of humans that are dying at the hands of our government and all the other crookedness throughout the world. PETA kills dogs all day long and no ones complaining. Who are they to decide that animals fate? Lets put it all into perspective pls....we turn a blind shoulder on everything right there in front of us......but make this big issue about what Vick deserves. It's not our decision.........he will face his TRUE judge one day. BE YOUR KIDS ROLE MODEL....don't leave it to someone else!

  • Magend - 15 years ago

    Hey Jeffery,
Of course YOU "don't" get the "APPLES" thing!!! I wouldn't expect one of your caliber to?! And you say you don't speak "IDIOT", but is ALL anyones heard from you thus far! Here, where I'm from, we call that a "LIE"!!!

"Polish him up and you still have a lump of coal."

Sounds to me like your less interested in "justice (right and wrong)", and more interested in displaying your BIGOTRY and PREJUDICE?!
It is OVBIOUS who the COWARD is!!!

    "How d'ya LIKE DEM APPLES?!!!"

  • Jeff - 15 years ago

HEY MAGEND! You obviously care or you would not have posted a response to my post about your P.O.S sports hero.
I dont get the "APPLES" thing, but i dont speak IDIOT either. You didnt put the "o" in GOD because you are afraid of left wing athiests and the like. You are a COWARD with a yellow streak a mile long nothing more. God has nothing to do with this neither does Jesus. He is a criminal plain and simple. Polish him up and you still have a lump of coal.

  • Dog Luvr - 15 years ago

I cannot believe some of the comments!! Geez...yes he made a mistake..he is human. He paid for his mistake and is doing what he can do to prove to everyone that he is sorry and has learned from all of this. If the NFL and Eagles can give him a second chance then why cant some of these people. If he screws up again, fine, then you can rub it in all of our faces that you were right, and he cant change. But, at least give him the chance!! If you dont agree with it dont watch the Da*n football game!! Turn the channel!! There are plenty of other football games on TV that you can watch without Vick in them. Or you could just watch The Animal Channel.......

  • Jay - 15 years ago

He paid his dues. Leave him alone. Everyone makes mistakes in their lifetime. God is the only one who can judge him and it seems like the angels we are, gave him a second chance.

  • marlon - 15 years ago

I think that it is just unbelieveable!!! All you nuts on here talking about how he should rot and burn and that he doesn't deserve a second chance...I would love to see how you would want to be treated if you became involved in something that others would as vile or even cruel. Forget that, just something that others would say is wrong! How many of you would want forgiveness? How many of you would want a second chance? Whether it be in marriage, your job, etc...you would want that same right afforded to you!
Now, the man has done his time!!! Let me repeat that ( THE MAN DID HIS TIME)!!!! Was prosecuted, sentenced, and suffered severe damage to his reputation!!! How holier than thou are you people!! I bet you have some skeletons in your closet...i bet you were you asked for forgiveness for something you did. even if it wasn't illegal!! I'm sure you were afforded that right! So you idiots spare me with the (he shouldn't play in the NFL), well guess what he is!!! HA HA HA!!
You people who say, he's a role model to our kids......WHO'S KIDS!!! You are the parent...turn the game off, be more active with your kids and let them make they're own decision!!!
You people disgust me with all your righteous indignation!!! Now what he did was in all ways wrong....but he paid the price for it and now it is over!!! So find someone else to string up on the noose!!!!

  • peagle19 - 15 years ago

If the Lockerbie bomber gets a second chance....why not Vick!

  • chris - 15 years ago

How many employers would hire back an individual that did things such as Vick? I for one know that the company I work for would never hire me back if started a stint in prison during my tenure there.

  • Magend - 15 years ago

    Hey JEFF,

If I cared what you thought, that might have hurt my feelings!!!
My NOT typing out the word G-d has more to do with Respect/Reverence, something you SO OBVIOUSLY lack!!!
I hope YOU break a leg and RETIRE broke!!! But, then again, your probably writing from the PEN!!!

P.S. - Do you like "APPLES"?

    Se'lah

  • mrsb - 15 years ago

Yes, he should be given a second chance. What he did was horrible but the amount of rage and lack of forgiveness aimed at this man surprises me. People seem to have more sympathy for those who kill children (i.e. Andrea Yates). Even Ted Kennedy, rest his soul, was hailed as a hero at his death even though he killed a woman in a car accident and fled the scene.

  • Hankster - 15 years ago

Gee, Pet Rose transgressed and he was banned from baseball for life. Today our "athletes" kill people, use liquor and drugs and torture dogs. They may get a fine or a little jail time and then it's back top making millions. In a way, it's the fault of the fans. They keep on paying bloated ticket prices so that our criminal "athletes" can continue making their millions. Sports - you can have them.

  • Don - 15 years ago

Go Vick!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Why is it people can have abortions, killing human life and we celebrate it as chioce, do that to a dog and you go to jail?????

I love that he is back, Maybe he will also run a Doggie dayare!

  • john - 15 years ago

No, not just because of the dogs but because he has already had his second chance. He lied until he was so busted he couldn't lie anymore. His marajuana in the water bottle as he boarded a plane. (Pssst, stupid, water bottles aren't allowed on planes now either.) His failed drug test as he was waiting trial. Which was his second chance again?

  • Dave - 15 years ago

If I were to do what he did,, I'd still be in jail! Money buys you justice. But being allowed to play again in the NFL is WRONG! They have a morality clause, which he crossed. It is a privilege to play sports, not a right. And to be put back in a position of being a role model. Show that the NFL is only in it for the money as well.
His second chance is being given. He's out of jail. THAT IS his second chance.
No NFL for Him. and to the Dikhole that said dogs are property, Maybe HE should have a few electrodes attached to a few of HIS items.

  • jeff - 15 years ago

HEY Magend! You are so politically correctly brainwashed!!! You wont even type the word GOD. I hope he breaks a leg and retires broke!

  • Vivie - 15 years ago

I think one point that has been overlooked is that of job skills. If he had been an electrician would it be any different? Once a convicted person serves his/her time, and they are released, we expect them to reintegrate to society. If they have job skills, they will usually try to go back to those skills to ease the transition back to the mainstream as well as earn a living. Is this any different? Vick's "skill" is football, and he's pretty good at it. So, he's returning to those very job skills to help transition him back into the mainstream as well as earn a living. Remember, he was just in bankruptcy court, and needs to pay his creditors $20,000,000. Would you prefer he join the ranks of the unemployed and be on the taxpayer's dole? You'd expect that electrician to "get back to work"...well, that's what Vick is trying to do. EVERYONE deserves a second chance...even Vick. Maybe some folks need to be just a tad less self-righteous......try to walk a mile in his shoes before you pass judgment...."Judge not lest ye be judged."

  • jeff - 15 years ago

Pete Rose didn't abuse animals or people. Where is his second chance? The only reason is Michael Vick is BLACK. Blame it on his upbringing? Are you kidding me? Take it from a middle aged white guy, this is nothing more that keeping the black community quiet. Racism against whites is more widespread than the media will let you believe!

  • why not - 15 years ago

why not give him a second chance, he served his time for what he did. don't punish the man the rest of his life. All the perfect people who have never done anything in their life, except judge others, wouldn't understand forgiveness and people deserving a second chance. i hope they nor anyone in their family is ever in a situation where a second chance is needed; oh they're perfect so of course they wouldn't be.

  • Magend - 15 years ago

AMEN - Jill, Linda 1977, stacey and the like!!!

COMMON-SENSE!!! (HAS LEFT THE BUILDING in this country)

G-D BLESS MICKAEL VICK!!! He has paid his price and WILL OBVIOUSLY continue to PAY for it for some time (The rest of his life) due to the OBVIOUS HYPOCRITICAL, COLD, CALLUS, UNFORGIVING BIGOTS in this country (SODOM AND GOMORRAH)!!!
These that would have VICK burned in the streets the very same that NAILED a perfectly innocent man (Our G-d) to the CROSS.... "Stone Him" they said...
And yet - these same, when they asked --- "Here is a whore, what do you say we do with her" ---- "He said - let HIM/HER who is without sin cast the first stone"!!! They "ALL" dropped their STONES and went home!!! Then he said - "Where are they (Your SELF-RIGHTOUS" accusers, judgers, mockers)!!! She said - I do not know, they have gone my LORD!!! He said - "Than neither do I condemn thee", you are forgiven, GO - and sin no more!!!

I hope Michael Vick becomes the Greatest Quarterback Ever!!!
How AWESOME it would be for him to carry the Eagles to the SuperBowl this year!!! ALL because they forgave and accepted him!!!

    MARANATHA (Come LORD JESUS)!!!

  • cajun girl - 15 years ago

Michael C. What a nut you are. Think YOU need to be watched closely.
What Michael Vic did was so wrong. Given a second chance, mabye, but no sane person would think it was alright.

  • Gruz - 15 years ago

Vick killed a few dogs and got almost 2 years in prison, Ted Kennedy killed a young woman, and he got 47 years in the Senate. Enough said. GO EAGLES!

  • Getting Frustrated - 15 years ago

How many idiots does it take to change the subject? Answer - All you idiots who keep bringing up babies and child abuse. OKAY - We get it. It's horrible. But we're not talking about that. This is a SEPARATE issue altogether. We are not trying to say one is more important than the other. We are saying that for someone to do what Michael Vick did, in his position, he got off easy. He got a second chance but didn't deserve it. There, I gave an opinion that had nothing to do with babies. Lets see if anyone else can stay on subject.

  • Eric - 15 years ago

I agree with Jill. Sure he deserves a second chance. How many thugs, drug users, wife beaters, or tax cheats are currently playing in the NFL or serving in Congress or the Obama Administration? As horrible the offense for which Vick was guilty, he has paid his penalty. Unike many players or politicians, he has not evaded justice. I will enjoy watching him play again. Too bad the falcons disn't have the cahoonas to sign him back. To all you PETA wimps- get a life and have a hamburger on me.

  • Stick to the Subject - 15 years ago

To It doesn't matter - We do care but we're talking about innocent animals - we are not talking about babies you moron - did you see what the question was??? It's about Michael Vick. NOT BABIES. I repeat - NOT BABIES...can't you read????

  • ramjet - 15 years ago

What a dumb question - "should Vick get a second chance?" He's already gotten one!...he signed a contract and is playing football. DUH!

  • Blackhawk - 15 years ago

I get so frustrated when people say they would have shot him if they could as if he did the worst crime out there. While dogs are precious to many they are still an animal. In KY where I live every day there are over 200 cases reported of abuse and neglect against CHILDREN. Had Vick done this to a child, just short of killing him/her, I promise you he would NOT have gotten as much time as he did for these animals and he would NOT have been so hated as he is now.

Sad commentray on the state of many of you reading this.

  • Linda1977 - 15 years ago

Playing in the NFL is a PROFESSION that requires a specific talent, and years of hard work, and training to get picked up by any team. I hardly call that a PRIVILEDGE. When Michael Vick was arrested for the crime he committed he was THE highest paid player in the NFL. So he goes to prison does his time for the crime he committed, meanwhile he goes bankrupt. Then he comes out works as a gopher for a construction company for $10.00 an hour during his house arrest. Punishment complete. With all that said..I am a pit bull owner and a lover of the NFL. I do not agree with the choices that Vick made and find the fighting and executions of pittbulls horrifying, I also do not believe that he should be banned from playing football. There are several players in the NFL that have felony criminal convictions, but they get to suit up any given Sunday. If you don't want to see Vick play turn off the TV or don't by tickets to the games. No one is GOD and the judge who tried this case has already made his decision. Everyone makes mistakes.

  • Luv Animals - 15 years ago

Sorry Jill, but I can't agree with you anymore - People have become scum and treat each other worse. Animals love unconditionally, they are great companions, they don't judge, insult or hurt intentionally. People do. How sad is that? Yes, those things you mentioned are horrible but we're not talking about that. This man made a conscious choice to do horrible things to innocent annimals. He was punished, but not by enough in my book. They say this behavior predicates worse down the road. People like him will hurt other people sooner or later. That's why this is so important. And it wasn't a one time thing. I wouldn't want to be anywhere near people like him. I'd rather hang with my pups and kitty cats than most thank you very much.

  • Toby Wilson - 15 years ago

    Well said, Jayne!

He should never have gone to prison for this in the first place. What a ridiculous society we live in, where babies are murdered in the womb every day and no one gives a damn, but some moron can dogfight and the Feds put him away.

    Give me a break!

  • FOCUS PEOPLE - 15 years ago

We are talking about what a person did to abuse animals in a horrific way and whether or not he should be given a second chance. Please stick to the subject. We are not talking Palin or Abortion. And by the way - he should be made to rot for what he did.

  • jill - 15 years ago

The morals that people in this country hold in high regard are laughable.
A person can get drunk, kill a person, and NOT go to jail. yet, a man is vilified for killing and mutilating an animal. yes an animal. not a person, with a family. Michael Vick has been suspended, gone through the criminal justice system, paid a high price for his crime. It is OVER. Let him return to his vocation in life. which, happens to be football. I dont agree with half of the NFL football players that get out of what they do, be it DUI, rape, or lewd behavior. Those are worse than what Michael Vick has done....they affect PEOPLE. People will always hold a higher value than an animal. I love animals, but come on......they took him through the wringer here.
Recently a player in Florida, literally killed someone while driving drunk! and did not go to jail! to me that is so WRONG. That player should be vilified (just like Michael Vick) and have a lifetime sentence. He took somebody's LIFE. Not an animal, but a member of someones family. a person.
Let's look at Michael Vick and his time in jail and look at it for what it was.
A Media Frenzy....because they had nothing better to do at the time.
Focus on People First. A case of recent notice....a rapist/child molester out on parole, who got away with harboring an 11 year old girl for 18 years? how does that happen? where are our values America? He was on LIFETIME parole and they somehow never noticed he was harboring a girl and two children in his backyard....tells me where we should be focusing!

  • Leeway - 15 years ago

I've seen some of his interviews recently and while he does appear to be contrite in his demeanor, I say no on the 2nd chance.
How many other felons get a chance to make $6 million bucks when they get out of prison?
    None...
Sorry, but he should have to work the system just like every other guy in history.
I actually can say I hated this guy for awhile now. I'm past that I guess, and I hope he really is profoundly sorry for his actions. Maybe he is. I'd boo him if I were at a game where he was playing, but the urge to just shoot the scumbag is gone now.

  • Jayne Jenkins - 15 years ago

Vick made a big mistake when he chose to harm dogs, he should have worked for Planned Parenthood destroying babies and then noone would have cared.

  • evelyn - 15 years ago

I vote yes but where is the required restitution? I say he plays but without pay for 2 years or mandatory 7 yearly payments of 10% of each year's salary and given to the Humane Societies. Our children are watching him play and learning that it is okay to do what ever one wants and still have public's affirmation.
