Should Gov. Sanford Quit?

Any man who openly admits wrong doing like that is a true leader! If he is a great Governor then he must stay in office!! Otherwise half of all the elected officials must resign too!

  • James West - 15 years ago

If he were a Democrat, he'd be presidential material.

    THE 10 COMMANDMENTS

The real reason that we can't have the Ten Commandments posted in a courthouse or Congress is this -- you cannot post 'Thou Shalt Not Steal' 'Thou Shalt Not Commit Adultery' and 'Thou Shall Not Lie' in a building full of lawyers, judges and politicians ... it creates a hostile work environment.

  • Steve - 15 years ago

He used state funds to fly for personal reasons. He broke the law and trust of the State because of that. His personal life is his and his families business... But when he used state money to fund he personal travel he broke the law. Any other state employee caught using state funds for personal business I would think would be fired.

  • cindy - 15 years ago

former President Clinton did something worst than Gov. Sanford, why nobody asked him to step down at that time

  • LMN - 15 years ago

The infidelity isn't the issue. I agree with both sides (on the infidelity issue) that when it happens to other side, each side screams at the other for their man to go. If the misuse of taxpayer money turns out to be true, then he needs to go. The only problem for South Carolinians is that Andre Bauer (the lieutenant gov) is an even bigger idiot that we would have to deal with for what? 18 more months? Let Lucas Glover take over. The only good news to come out of our state in an eternity !!

  • TAS - 15 years ago

Yeah and he voted that Bill Clinton should resign when he got caught. He also voted for impeachment, now he's crying for everyone to please forgive him. He's a crooked, fake conservative, power hungry LOSER who put his own people out on the ringer when the stimulus came along just to further his own presidential aspirations. He's the one who ended up out there though. Now that is what I call a message from God. He needs to be impeached just like he voted for Bill to be impeached unless he lacks the courage of his convictions.

  • jazzgrrrl25 - 15 years ago

make no mistake, this isn't about the affair.

the man left the state, unannounced, for 6 days, leaving no chain of command.

    who does this?

who in a position of responsibility would want to do this?

he's a self-absorbed narcissist, who has done absolutely nothing for the state during his tenure.

he was ranked the third worst governor by newsweek, he's shown no character in dealing with this and he is a burgeoning, burdening weight around the people of the state, the gop, and any hopes we may have to carry on productively are dashed until this albatross is gone.

  • Tim - 15 years ago

Absolutely not. This is his private life and has little to do with his ability to govern. Does anyone have all the facts about his marriage? I am conservative but even when Bill Clinton had his fling it was a private matter and should be kept that way. People are so quick to judge when they themselves are not without spot or wrinkle!

On a day we are gushing over the Kennedy who "drowned" the evidence? I don't think we are going to chastize this man while the Dem's continue to rape our nations cauffers; abort babies for third world countries and euthanize babies that are inconvenient. However, it does make a good "cover up the real story" for the MSM...the Democrats' embarassing themselves daily is just to "inconvenient" to cover. If only we could just "trust" them with our children
from age three (education lobbys) and our grandparents (AARP) and then, of course, since medicare and social security are such success stories - let's throw the rest of the healthcare onto that trash heap. Real Americans are drawing the line and NOT supporting the Trojan Horse Obamanation Care - in any form - that our foreign exchange president is so cleverly marketing - with our tax dollars. Cash for clunkers is the best example in the past week why we cannot trust these people. They couldn't plan a lemonade stand an know what is needed. Of course - though bow to our enemies. Wolf in lambskin ! pbgs

  • bkl - 15 years ago

I don't think so. He has been foolish, with both his actions and his words (he couldn't stop talking to the press about his "soul mate"). I would be suprised if he was elected again, but has he done anything that merits forcing him out of office? If he hasn't done anything illegal then let this man and his family resolve this without the added pressure of political games playing.

  • Sam - 15 years ago

Ironic that people are wanting a politician to resign for an affair on a day others are honoring a Kennedy.

  • jw - 15 years ago

Oh yeah - all of you without sin can cast the first stone...

  • Karen - 15 years ago

I agree with Pete: If everyone had to resign due to affairs:who would be left? There was outrage at Clinton's affair and then...like all bad things demo's do..swept away as "ho-hum"...

  • NAMAW - 15 years ago

I agree with Pete! There are so many politicians that are unfaithful to their spouses we would have to get rid of all of them and start over....now there is a great idea...........

  • MLK - 15 years ago

No he should NOT resign. Andre Bauer is the boob! Lt. Gov is as pathetic as they come. He has been ticketed for speeding near the Capitol and filmed going through the lobbyist lunches several times and then sneaking a plate or two back to eat later. Lt Gov Andre' Bauer would make a huge mess out of SC. As far a Sanford, his wife will set him straight or set him loose. Actually, Sanford's wife would probably make a better Gov than her hubby or Lt Gov Bauer!

  • SDK alabama - 15 years ago

He holds the highest office in South Carolina. He is referred to on google searches as the Honorable Mark Sanford. I looked up the meaning of that word and this is what is reads "having personal integrity: guided by, or with a reputation for having, strong moral and ethical principles". I also searched for South Carolina code of Ethics that he may have sworn too. I could not find any. It does not appear that he broke any law so perhaps he should stay; however, from now on he should be viewed as The Govenor of South Carolina, Mark Sanford, dropping Honorable from the name since he has proven that he is not honorable.

  • mekabo31 - 15 years ago

I don't think he should resign over the affair, but he should resign for taking off while serving as govenor without giving notice to see his mistress, and with the allegations of abusing state time/funds to see her. Even if you disagree with that I dont' see how anyone, Rep/Dem, can argue he isn't coming off like a man in the middle of a mental breakdown. It's not like democrats are the only ones calling for his head, former republican allies have too. His rambling love confessions are disturbing.

  • Jim Lake - 15 years ago

All of you who say he should stay...do you trust him???

It doesn't matter what he did or didn't do...the question is can he be trusted?
I'd even accept that a playboy can hold office...just don't lie about it!!!

There are other jobs for liars...public office is clearly NOT one of them.

    He has to go.

  • Plas Jaramillo - 15 years ago

Sanford is a digrace! He should have removed himself long ago.

  • cmcadams - 15 years ago

We can not trust any pol that uses his States travel card the way he did.He has been unfaithful to the people as well as to his family. He should leave before any more dirt hits his family and State.

  • whocares - 15 years ago

Yes he should resign. You would think the dominatly conservate state of south carolina would hope their leaders have better morals and ethics. If hes having an affair how do we know he doesnt hav all kinds of corruption going on in the office.

  • EME - 15 years ago

Absolutelty NOT...it amazes me how Dems are so high and mightly when a Republican has an affair. This country if full of Democratic Politicians who have been unfaithful to their wives or worse. It is easy to see why something like this happens. He will be paying the rest of his life for his mistake.

  • Bob - 15 years ago

There is no difference in one's personal morals/ethics and one's public morals/ethics. One is either faithful to oaths/vows or one is not. The gov misused public funds, and demonstrated an incredible lack of responsibility.

  • Shirley - 15 years ago

Why should he???????????? Ted Kennedy killed a girl and he didn't resign. I do believe murder is worse than lying. After all, Bill Clinton, President of the United States lied and he didn't resign. We are not his judge, God will take care of that and if he repents he will be forgiven. Bill Clinton and Ted Kennedy didn't apologize at least Gov. Sanfoard did.

  • Bruce - 15 years ago

What crime did this man commit against the people? His crime was against God and that's whom he needs to make it right with. Oh, that's right, I forgot, the Dems think they're God.

  • gary - 15 years ago

Who cares about his love life? If president Clinton can get away with what he did, and senator Kennedy can "leave the scene" like he did, why should Gov. Sanford have to leave office? It is annoying to see horrible decisions on state government being made by the same people for 4 years at a time and they are asked to do a better job on their next term, but when a good governer makes a mistake in his personal matters he, or she, is asked to step down. If it has no effect on my life, I dont even care to hear about it!!

  • Eric - 15 years ago

I am sick of politicians that behave unprofessionally and continue on as if nothing is wrong with their behavior. It's time for our politicians to suffer consequences for their actions. I'm a Conservative, McCain disliking, Obama hating, term limit loving, American.

  • martha langham - 15 years ago

I say, he should stay in office until he has misused taxpayer monies.

  • bcresin - 15 years ago

Well let see,,, the leader of the free world in the 90's had not one, not two but as many as 5 affairs and it was just fine for every liberal in the country. stay put and do your Job gov.

  • Stormdrane - 15 years ago

People that choose to serve the public should be held to a higher standard of morals/ethics. If they can't maintain a higher standard of knowing right from wrong and doing the right thing, they have no business in that job/position.

  • FlynLow - 15 years ago

freedom fighter ......... I think Obama has done quite enough in his time in the office of the president. ANYONE who puts our great grandchildren in debt to the point that he has needs to go too. He is a talking head that can't think for himself.... Always has to have the teleprompter to speak.... Can't think on his own! Sorry, he's NOT my president.

  • maxine nichols - 15 years ago

Do not quit your job. only your wife and kids should have any say in what you do. i think you are doing a good job, so how your head up and keep going on.

  • albo - 15 years ago

Anyone remember president Bill ? Are we all being consistent in our resignation demands ? Are we applying the same standards to people of both political parties ?

  • dale - 15 years ago

the people of south carolina will make that decision.

  • FlynLow - 15 years ago

The Politicians who think they are above the law and better than the rest of us and think they can get away with whatever they want.... Need to get voted out of office. The Ol' buddy system is flushing our money down the drain. .....

    The Governor should resign, NOW!

  • DrDave - 15 years ago

RightyTighty: Good point. He was neglegent in carrying out his swarn position, and demonstrated moral ineptitude. Both of which should not be tolerated in an elected offical of the Republican Party. This is not to say that he can not be fogiven of his sins. Rather, he has demonstrated that is not right for the job and should be replace.

  • freedom fighter - 15 years ago

should Obama resign because he lied to grandma, grandpa, mom, dad and us

  • david - 15 years ago

JFK, Bill Clinton, Ted Kennedy...None of them quit because they couldn't keep their personalities in their pants. Why should the Governor!

  • RightyTighty - 15 years ago

He should resign... not simply because he cheated on his wife... but because he left the country without notifying his Lt. Gov. or any of his staff.

  • Mike Kissinger - 15 years ago

You people (members of the Fox planet) are amazing! The consensus seems to be that the Dems/Liberals/Evil people always scream for a Republican to resign when caught doing something. Have you forgotten the greatest threat to liberty/American way of life/most earth shattering event in our lifetime? When the mighty Republicans, led by the a determined (and by gar we have a great constitutional crisis) Hastert?

You remember, when the democratic president got caught lying about a blowjob. It was so terrible that we had to have a full blown impeachment circus. Not one Republican seemed to think that it was a stupid waste of time and money.

  • DrDave - 15 years ago

The Republican party should be based on morals and principles. As I felt when Slick Willey pulled a Lewinsky, I feel the same should apply the the Governor. Resign, NOW!

  • Republady - 15 years ago

Sorry Rob but he was on the state dollar & state time so his mistake was in his public life. Since he "confessed" he's still spent untold time on this when he should have been focusing on the state of South Carolina's needs. He should resign so that someone can come in and do the job he's been paid for. Let his people move on and concentrate on other more important things.

  • RLG - 15 years ago

I'm surprised to note all those who comment and have no moral code of their own. They seem to judge other's actions by other's action. "An eye for and eye and a tooth for a tooth". The only problem with that is everyone will wind up blind and toothless. A better approach is to examine what effect the governor's actions have on others and what his actions sah to others ... not try to justify him by what other scumbags have done.

  • Tim - 15 years ago

He will be forced to step down by his own party because in the last 15 years, Republicans IN GENERAL, are much more apt to purge their OFFICE HOLDERS for wrong doing than Democrats are.

  • Chad - 15 years ago

Hey Dems, Bill Clinton should of resigned too......

  • Chuck - 15 years ago

Come on people....Did you all forget about Billy Clinton And Monica...Did Bill quit? He should stay.

  • Chuck - 15 years ago

Come on people....Did you all forget about Billy Clinton And Monica...Did Bill quit? He should stay.

  • Donald Sammis - 15 years ago

He should quit and the Party should push him in that direction. He didnt make a mistake, he is a sleeze ball. Im a conservative voter and I'll hammer a stupid Republican harder than the crooked Democrat. Surely the USA can do better than this

  • RLG - 15 years ago

He is demonstrating his extreme selfish nature. He only cares for himself. He is merely fond of his "soul mate" and certainly he hates his wife. His actions speak louder than his words: he could care less about his childredn. He should be impeached, then tarred and feathered and run out of town. He is a disgrace to his state.

By the Way: Pete who comments above needs a course in logic. His comments are faulty at best.

  • Tampa Steve - 15 years ago

The man needs to go. He, like many other conservatives, ran for office on values - his are higher than anyone elses. If he hadn't called for anybody else to resign over the same issue and hadn't ran for office as a holier than thou type I'd leave him be but no, so he needs to go.

  • Rob - 15 years ago

His real crime was standing up for principles against the drooling, money grubbing liberal hypocrites who wanted the stimulous funds. He is a good man who made a bad mistake in his PERSONAL life.

  • pat - 15 years ago

Let the governor stay...so he can support his dying wife...he won't have medical if he leaves...and his wife has suffered enought!!!

  • sue - 15 years ago

If he should quit, than every democrat would had an affair should quit too.
What about the one who left a girl to die in a car in the water

  • SouthernGrits - 15 years ago

"LET HIM WHO IS AMONG YOU WITHOUT SIN CAST THE FIRST STONE."
Why does anyone feel that Gov. Sanford should resign? Whatever sense would this make? This is simply another dem/lib diversion tactic to take our minds and opinions off of health care reform strategies by the BO camp. Gov. Sanford has committed no greater sin in God's eyes than anyone of us has, so give it a rest. NO - He needs to stay exactly where he is.

  • Pete - 15 years ago

If every politician/public servant that has had an affair had to resign, the federal, state and municipal buildings in this country would be sparsely populated, at best.

  • Red Dog - 15 years ago

He's the dumbest adult in the family, so sure he should resign. So he should hire a nanny and watch what she does for about 12 months. If the lady cn trust him, he could become a house dad. He's a boob!
