Sadly the 'Shana Tova' is in line with actual Jewish practice. From the first day of the month of Elul (last week, thursday at midnight), it is the custom to wish someone you do not expect to meet again before Rosh Hashana a Good Year (Shana Tova). so as to not miss the opportunity.
....does kinda imply he won't be checking back with them any time too soon though.....
