This is a bunch of rubbish. This gilr is a lunatic and so are you people.
So-called Honor Killings are extremely rare . Theis pastor is nothing more than a child molester trolling on the internet.

Protect this child! She is 17, and reaching out for help. It would be not different than if her parents were divorced and she is choosing which parent she wants to live with. The courts allow children at the age of 12 to make the choice of whom they would rather live with. The courts also look into weather the child(ren) is mature enough to decide for themselfs. God is our Father who art in Heaven, and she chooses to live with Him. Think about the maturity and the safety of the child.

The Muslim followers are taught from the time they are little to understand that if you are an infidel, you will be killed! I don't care where a Muslim lives in the world, they all believe the same thing. They are very dedicated to their religion, intolerant of other religions. In a sick way you have to admire this strong society for their discipline, but anyone with a right mind knows this is dead WRONG. What is so different from a 17 yr old child accusing her parents of repeated sexual abuse or a parents threatening to kill her? This has happened in the past and it WILL happen again. Now, we as a people have been warned that this could happen. How in the world, can we be at peace with ourselves if we do send her back? Aren't we just as guilty as the father? Where are our laws as a nation? Aren't we supposed to protect children from abuse of all kinds. I think that the state of FL should take her under protective custody until she is of age (at least). She may still be murdered along the way some where, some day. But at least we did our part! Below is a website where you can read the section in the KORAN where it talks about the "infidels". Thanks Darcy

America needs to understand that muslims who grow up in the middle east all their lives , then come here do NOT think like Americans. To them honor killings is normal to them. There has been honor killings just with in the last few years in Europe, Canada and in the USA. people listen muslims do not think like the rest of us. Ever since they are babies they are taught to hate jews, christians and kill the infidels. They teach this in their schools, moquse, on tv . They are taught jihadism all day long in the middle east. These muslims cannot be trusted and we should really be careful who we allow in the good ol U.S.A.!!!!!!!!

I live in Columbus, one of Al Quida's strongholds at a mosque here.

Found out through a confidential source that Rifqa's father SOLD his jewelry business. Could it be to get Rifqa and take her back to Sri Lanka?

Don't know who to notify on this,

  • Eric Hamm - 15 years ago

I don't think that she should be sent back. The only good that could come out of her going back would be that she would be a martyr for Christ. If she died for her faith that would be a great testimony of how Christ is within her, and maybe that would cause her parents and/or other Muslims to come to know Christ as their Lord and Savior. I know that what ever happens it will be used to the glory of God.

Whenever and wherever the life of of child of any age is compromised, the people must protect that child from the danger. Muslims in this country have set a very dangerous precident thanks to the previous "honor killing" cases that have shocked thinking humans in the West. The Christian church at large has a long history of sanctuary and this child, whether she was aware of that or not, ran toward sanctuary. It is difficult to think that the pastor and his family had not been very rational about harboring this child securely from a family that would possibly bring death not only to the girl, but to the pastor's family and even members of their congregation. Obviously once the authorities DID find out, the parents knew too...is the child safe now that it has been so broadly publicized? In a Western family, most likely; we are not dealing here with the same mentality and the girl's life may yet be in danger...even moreso should she be forced to return to an Ohio family...especially moreso should she be remmanded to a Muslim family...and simply because she turns eighteen or twenty-one will not make her safe from the pitiful cult of Muslim honor killing...as long as a male family member is alive she might have to keep looking over her shoulder!

When she was a teenager in middle school she had bruises all up and down down her legs and arms. Friends took her to school counselor who did NOTHING! She has hidden her Christianity for FOUR years and her father just discovered it. She stayed with friends two nights while her father was out of town. Fearing she would be murdered she took the bus to Orlando and called Pastor she had been on Internet Chat room with. He had no influence on her going to Orlando. ALL you disbelievers need to go to Jihad Watch. See video of two teen girls killed by father for less than this.

Their CULTURE demands honor killings for converting to Christianity. See the movie, "The STONING of Saroya M" with Jim Caviezel.

Thanks, Jake, for writing in! We were privileged to have Rifqa visit our home fellowship group for worship and prayer just two days before the incident at her home which compelled her to runaway. She is so in love with Jesus and truly understands the true Freedom He brings to everyone. she was extremely excited about God and Jesus, but also very much afraid if her parents found out where she was. Her mother called while she was with us and she was so afraid. She came with a friend. We had heard about this young woman who converted from Islam to Christianity, but that night met her for the first time. Her fear of being killed was real - she even voiced it that night. We all prayed for her before she left, not knowing that we were visited by a little angel who would soon become nationally and internationally known for her faith. She did express love for her parents - but was very afraid of being killed if her parents found out. She wanted to learn guitar so that she could play worship music without singing in the safety of her own home. She needs to stay safe in Florida, protected, and guarded. I pray that her case will wake up America and Congress to the reality of the wickedness of sharia law and the islamic faith.

Somali muslims who convert to Christianity also live in fear of their lives. They go underground and must study the Bible in secret, enter church buildings or prayer places in secret. They come to our nation for refuge, but
the islamic inmans and elders and teachings refuse to acknowledge that they are now living in a free nation in which everyone has freedom of religion and freedom of speech. It is time that national attention is paid to this severe issue and that the muslims living in our nation abide by our laws, not theirs.

I also have muslim friends, and, pray that someday they, too, will find the joy and peace that only Jesus can give, like Rifqa.

Rifqa - many of us in Columbus, Ohio and throughout the world are praying for you - keep your eyes lifted up to Jesus and do not dispair - God will give you His strength and His portion in the midst. Thank you for visiting with us - you will always be in our prayers.

For everyone who doesn't know Rifqa Bary you don't know what her she is like.(not saying in a bad way). im Rifqa's friends, and what i want to say is Do Not Send Her Back, you don't know really what is going on. Rifqa is the most truthful person in the world there is no way she would runaway without having a really good reason, i go to school with her, she talked about how much she loved her family, and how important they were to her, but she needs to be safe, and Rifqa Im glad you ran away, cause no1 wants you to die. we all love you. she is the greatest person in the world, i live in her neighborhood, and talk to her so is everyones life bad yes, but Rifqa's parents are muslim, they will not let her live if she is sent back, so i hope for her sake that the florida judge does not send her back to ohio, it will be the the worst decision of your life please don't.

Anybody kills or even threatens this girl and they will have to face me...period. Honor killings are stupid!! I don't give a @#$% what's in their friggin head. It is honorable only to kill someone in self defense...period...end of discussion. Are we really talking about this?!!

  • Yvonne - 15 years ago

Please can we stop spewing rhetoric and start thinking again?

Point 1) We are a nation of laws- not opinions. The law states that parents make decisions for their minor children- not governments.

Point 2) These parental rights are not absolute. The state government may act to override the parents and protect a child.

Point 3) Ohio has no emancipation law, therefore the girl is a minor. Her parents reside in the state of Ohio. Therefore, she should be returned to Ohio. A Ohio judge can then place her in a foster home for her protection until all the facts of the case are decided.

As a Democratic, I am taking note that you conservatives are prone to GIVE GOVERNMENT your rights. Do you really mean to give government the right to interfere with parental decisions capriciously! Some, in this forum, have dismissed the rights of parents because their religion is objectionable. Do you what a government who can decide who is a fit parent based of religion. What will you do when "Mitch" is the government. His kind think Christians are evil, murderous, unfit for parental rights, etc. The "Mitches" will use the precedent set in this case to take your children!

Remember the rights you give government to use in this case may be used against you at a later date. Be careful what you wish for....

  • Bob - 15 years ago

This is clear child abuse and Muslims are well known for it. Even their "peace loving" philosophers admit they would kill their own children if they converted. So much for peace. Plus, if girls can have abortions at that age without parental consent, they should be able to leave the house, especially in the face of death threats. How many dead women do we have to see fill the headlines before we take the threats of this dangerous religion seriously?

  • Persia - 15 years ago

Emergency Case due to the Fact that Islam clearly states Death for Apostasy and states Nothing against Parents killing their own Children. Full of Examples that Islamic People care about their Shari'a instead of Western Constitution and Laws, being in the West. Would like to know What does President Obama, so Generous toward Islam, has to say about Killing Apostates and Honorcides. Anyway, Florida should protect Rifqa and then USA have to issue a Law which protect Citizens against their Anti-constitutional Religion .... Fast (daily) well ....

If they send her back and the father does kill her, does the judge have a child endangerment action against him?

  • Donald Abbott - 15 years ago

This young woman's statements should be taken at face value. Much as we in American have troubel understanding this type of statement, it IS TRUE.

The young woman is in great pearle of being killed because the Koran doew state that all persons that convert to another regliion are to be killed as they are no longer considered to be part of the Muslum world.

What we, as a nation, cannot get through our heads is that is also the case for all Christians to the militants in the Muslim world. This is real and why so few conversions are made as it is extremely rare to find a person that will risk having their "family" kill them if they convert.

It is a duty of a near family member to kill the infadel that converts to another religion. If you do no believe that, call and talk to Christians in the Middle East that live amoung the Muslims and you will find that this is the militant stand of all Muslims and you never know, for sure, which one is goijg to be the one that will do this. If the person is not killed in the middle east, then they are denouced and not allowed to work which is another way of slowly killing them and if they are found trying to work then they are beaten and their hands crippled so the cannot work.

  • R B Canon - 15 years ago

If a 14 year old is mature enough to 1) get to choose which parent to live with or 2) choose to divorce his parents, a 17 year old under threat of death should be believed mature enough to make what she believes to be a life vs. death decision. All the media should be playing her video interview. Perhaps that would keep these honor murders from continuing. We have had too many bloody killings by Muslim fathers right her in the Dallas area - fathers who sometimes disappear like the cowards they are.

  • Barbi Franklin - 15 years ago

Since the Koran teaches violence and killing of the infidel and there is precedence for these mercy killings even here in America, I believe that she should be under protection by the provisions of the state of Florida with supervised visits with her family members.

  • Mike Perez - 15 years ago

If following such religious law means so much, then stay where it is followed. I never understood how someone comes to America, yet despises everything American, and choses to turn this country into what they left? Huh? How is this type of death "honorable" yet the life they live is far from it. Killing your daughter? Yeah that is sure some honorable religion. Religion is not the biggest killer of people, it's the "blood line" that does. That's how Muslim can kill Muslim, and how tribe can kill tribe in Africa. These people are the furthest example of any religion.

  • mike - 15 years ago

I watched the Fox News Mobile commentary this morning about this case. It is amazing when those who talk the loudest seem to be making the valid point. Fact is this young lady probably will be a victum of honor killing. Just ask the mother here in Atlanta whose daughter was murdered by her father-in-law because his son married a non-indian person. or the uncle who killed his niece because she opted out of an arranged marriage. this is a culture that has been brought to this country and until a death occurs no one does anything about it. When the family commits the honor killing of this young girl, then the state of Ohio should be held responsible for complicity. since they had an opportunity to do something and they stood by and allowed this to happen.

  • Anon - 15 years ago

All I can say is that I am very familiar with Toledo. I will also say that she will get killed, if she is returned. This is not the first time, this kind of thing has happened in Toledo, OH. Sending her back there is a death sentence and anyone who would allow that to happen will be stained by her blood. It is literally that bad there. I know so many people who were murdered there, over stupid little crap. Like I know an 8 year old that was shot to death through the back over his own bicycle. I know a 15 year old that was murdered for a pair of shoes. I know a woman who was raped, stabbed 36 times and left to die in a ditch nude (amazingly she survived). Every time I go there (once a week), there are a new couple dozen kids (mostly young girls) who have came up missing. Most of which are themselves runaways due to useless parents, crazy parents, etc. Many of those, unfortunately, end up as prostitutes. All I can say is that it is imperative to prevent another innocent life from being snuffed out and you must act. I'm not being racist or anything like this, but they are very dedicated to their faith and some, but not all, are dangerously so.

    Minya,

She was lured into this by rabid christians. My daughter want's to rebel, she goes and gets a tattoo to piss me off, a girl wants to piss off her muslim dad, she joins a christian cult...Whats not to understand? What is amazing is how so many on this thread are so quick to believe that her father would honor kill her!?!? I saw pictures of this kid in a cheerleaders uniform and mini skirt... Now your gonna tell me this guy isn't supposedly dishonored because his kid isn't wearing a burka? The kid has never been oppressed by her father clearly, this father who left behind his country in search of a better life for his family!! Now you christian creeps without a shred of evidence want the LEGISLATURE involved!! PRICELESS!! How about understand that the sickness here is RELIGION!! That your jibberish about Jesus is the other side of the same coin. I VOTE THOMAS PAINE FOR GOD!!

  • RMD - 15 years ago

Absolutely keep her away from her family . . . for now anyway! But if she really wanted to be kept away from her father, she SHOULD have said she wanted to get an abortion and her dear old dad just wouldn't understand. With the courts, that works almost every time. Ah, if only we could go back to the days when judges used actual JUDGMENT! Let's hope this one does.

  • John Cusick - 15 years ago

Rifqa Bary could be given emancipated minor status by the court. Consider the irony that an even younger girl could get this status simply by getting pregnant. I am definitely NOT suggesting that this is a course of action, only to point out that protections from potential harm seem to be less important than making an adult out of a younger girl who became pregnant by mistake. I am sure that the ACLU will come to her rescue as this is a civil liberties issue.
Or does the ACLU ever seek to protect the rights of Christians?

  • pat - 15 years ago

she is 17 and legally old enough to decide where she wants to stay... let her make up her own mind... she knows her family..... we don't

  • Nocomprendo - 15 years ago

The poll results for this story had some interesting results. I didn't notice any comments from the 7% who approved of this young girl being returned to Ohio.
Wait, I just saw a few. Someone made the remark :We can't have government passing special laws to accommodate special circumstances. Why not? The government allows this every day, with 12 million illegals running around, and if that's not against the law, I don't know what is.

  • minya - 15 years ago

Susan, she actually ran away on her 17th Birthday so pretty much year from now she's pretty much has legal rights.

Mitch- what the HELL are you sayng??? Please just stop talking you CLEARLY sound uneducated and have no clue what your saying.... "the Christians that kidnapped her" she was never kidnapped. The girl made her own choice and found Jesus THE TRUTH all on her own!!! Stop your hate and stop your talking it just pisses me OFF!!!!

  • Paul Script - 15 years ago

Already a precedent from the Clinton administration...Hillary knows:
    Send her to Cuba.

  • su - 15 years ago

When any person from other religion converts to Islam, then Muslims welcome it. In many universities and colleges in United States, muslim students are asking the students to convert to Islam. If a student converts to Islam, then they will do parties. But if a muslim converts to other religion, then Muslims call it "BRAIN WASHED".

Yes there may not be any abuse for this girl before, but now she will be killed by her family or relatives. The one religion who does not respect other religions is "ISLAM", and if people in united states cannot understand that, then they are mistaken.

  • minya - 15 years ago

I watched the interview of Rifqa when she arrived in Florida and I completely understand her fear. I am a Arab Christian and understand the consequences cleary to what happens when a muslim converts. It's part of the religion to kill one that leaves the Isam religion. Look at Nagla Emam in Egypt now, biggest story in Cairo. She's threathend her life for converting to Christianity and it's considered a storm in Cairo because of what she did.
It doesn't matter what country your in, this is what is taught in Islam and they believe their doing a good deed by killing her.
I don't trust her parents and yes Florida needs to protect her and protect her religious freedom that she deserves. Parents will act innocent but I don't trust them for sure. They will kill her if she goes back and going to prision doesn't mean anything to them.... Please don't talk about evidence of abuse, yeah he loves his daughter but he loves God more and would do what it takes to please him as the Koran says. Don't be fooled Americans. It's happened to a gril in Toronto but you don't hear about it. Acutally it happens all over the world....

  • Richard Terry - 15 years ago

It's times the American public and justice system recognize the twisted thinking of Islam. First, , if you're muslim, you must lie to infidels.--I KNOw this is the case as I've spent years amongst the Muslims in the Middle East. Second, , this girl wilkl be killed. We already have a recent case right here in America where a father(otherwise a seemingly respectful citizen) cut off his daughter's head in an honor killing. Don't be taken in by a father who claims to love his daughter--he may love her, but he'll kill her.
If this child needs a home, our church will find her a place with other Christian women--contact me.

  • Kyle Powell - 15 years ago

She needs to go back to Ohio and ask to be emancipated. Then she would be able to move away and start a new life. We can't have government passing special laws to accomodate spcial circumstances.

  • Yallaredumb - 15 years ago

Everyone who says anything about Muslims being ready to do an honor killing is obviously uneducated.
Everyone rushes to the conclusion that Muslims are going to kill their daughters, or sisters or anyonee if they disgrace their family.
    This is completely untrue.
Muslims are humans just like the rest of us.
There is no where in the Quran that says a Muslim has to do honor killings!
Find me the passage that says it, because it is impossible.
Have any of you ever even read the book?
Know anything about what they preach?
Or do you get all your information from the media? The same media that I know many of you dislike.
It is not our right to jump to conclusions and assume because they are Muslim, they will kill their own daughter.
    Their DAUGHTER! Their blood.
Germans don't have a bad name because of Hitler. But Muslims do because of bombings that people who have been brainwashed do? Even Muslims hate them.
So I suggest all of you to go educate yourself. The girl is in no harm. There is no evidence of abuse.
    Go read.

  • Joe - 15 years ago

this girl will definately be killed if she is returned to her muslim parents. But as much as I would hate to see that happen I believe that it will. Maybe if she were a famous Russian Ballerina she might be given a chance but, she's just a kid and now supposedly a Christian and you know how much American law cares for kids and Christians. Pray for her.

  • nothingsound - 15 years ago

What we do not understand as Americans is the joy one Muslim could find in killing this young courageous woman. The religion practices honor killing. If not her parents, then some one from the Mosque they attend. She also could be sent to country where honor is allowed. And when do police even know half the stuff that happens in homes. Look at all the abused women and children in this country that do not feel safe in reporting the crimes against. The police have no idea!!!!! This young is 17 and should have the unltimate say in her life no one else!

  • N1OWNSMEUS - 15 years ago

No matter what the circumstances are...this 17yr old should be able to do what ever she wants! No 1 should have the right to force her to do anything that she does not want to do!!!

  • Joe Schlobotnic - 15 years ago

She needs be protected from her family and put into the Muslim protection program.

She will need to be hidden for the rest of her life. If not they will hunt her down and kill her.

    She is right.

  • Lynne - 15 years ago

Muslims who practice this barbaric act of "honor killing" should be deported (or executed). I cannot believe how STUPID our country has become for accepting immoral and ILLEGAL behavior in the name of political correctness!

My prayers are with Rifqa and others like her. God can certainly protect her, comfort her, and enable Christians within her area to take care of her. She is God's child, and He loves her. She also has His promise of eternal life with Him in Heaven because she has placed her trust in the work of Jesus Christ, who died for her sins.

And if the judge sends her back to Ohio: he too should be charged for any harm done to her.

  • R_not - 15 years ago

Mitch, maybe you are not familiar with the New Testament and Jesus' teachings if you say such things that there are 'honor killings' in Christianity.

one thing about the basics of the beliefs is that Christians who do such a thing are not following the teachings of Jesus, while in islam they certainly are. If you want to talk about the Old Testament, there is no order for Jews to do such things forever, in fact they do not and have not done such things for more than a millenia.

When someone makes a tu quoque comment like yours it shows me that you don't know what islam is all about - and taqiyya/kitman a part of islam. In islam, apostacy is punishable by death at the very most, and what they have done in such countries as these people come from is to do things such as imprisoning the women in their rooms, and eventually letting them die. Source: Princess (about a Saudi princess, who remains unknown out of fear for her life for writing such a thing, and tells of the atrocities done to women, apostates, etc). but this is not the only source - the daily news of what is happening in muslim countries also tells of these tales, and also such notables as the Caner brothers (check youtube for their videos) who tell of what it is like when they apostacized. Remember they (the Caner brothers) are men vs this female child who are only considered property of the males in islam.

I am baffled as to why the courts have not appointed a Guardian Ad Litem to this 17-year old girl. What is going on?

  • LM - 15 years ago

BTW - I have been reading all the comments posted and I am so appalled by the lack of education these people seem to have. So many misspellings and grammatical errors. Learn the English language before you post a comment. Look up words you cannot spell. Custody is with an "o", not an 'i", and "their" is possessive, "there" is not, and "they're" is a contraction meaning "they are". Definitely, not defanately or definately. "Bearing", not "baring".

  • Laura - 15 years ago

It appears one side is arguing not to send her back to her family because she may be killed and the other side is arguing to send her back because they fear she is being brainwashed by the "cult" so-called church. If this is the actual argument, then I think it only makes sense to remove her from her potentially brain-washing environment and let her stay somewhere she is safe while the family is further investigated. Her safety is much more important than any law or precedent setting action. Do the right thing. Remove her from both situations until it is clear she is safe with her family.

  • Zach - 15 years ago

She must be kept away from her parents and the Islamic community at all costs or she will be a another victim of an honor killing, a religious practice carried out for 1000's of years. She spoke the truth on television which will make the Islamic community even more furious. She may have to go into hiding, she should stay in Florida. Hope she does not end up like Sarah and Amina Said, May those beautiful young girls rest in peace and may their father burn in hell.

  • BWD - 15 years ago

Precedent. Well there are other cases around the country where American Muslims have warned authorities of danger from within their imediat family over marriage or divorce. Switching Faith is certainly one of those 'triggers' that a court or judge would have to understand. For any Judge not understanding such 'triggers' is a negligence in itself.

The law of the land, our land, is not Muslim Shria law. If Muslims do not want to follow or accept our laws, then they should not have come here.

  • Ann B. - 15 years ago

We need to stand against this religion that say they are a religion of Love, and kill people, even their own family for leaving this religion of LOVE. We are a nation of compassion for this world. We need to stand in protection of those who want freedom to change their faith no matter how old they are.

  • Brandon Laffoon - 15 years ago

Honestly this is concerns to an earlier comment left that the girl should honestly reject even christianity! To think that in this nation their are over 365,000,000 people including elders and children and I am guessing that over 35,000,000 people go to church and give over a hundred dollars to the church a month! Some individuals give 20 percent of their after tax earnings claiming god will give it back! At 30,000,000 people at 100 dollars alone that would be over 3 billion dollars injected into the economy almost immediately- by the end of the year nearly 20 billion into the economy if church was banned or say charitable gifts to them was! Church is about religion not keeping a usually large building to a certain temperature all week when their are four visitations to them a week! Imagine if everyone stopped giving to their church- one for fears of getting h1N1 but also to help this country recover from recession! I'll bet it would only take months for it to be over but this country would looking rich, wealthy, people would have money to go to college because their parents didn't give to the church instead- that's what happened to my college money is that all my life they gave to a church instead and guess what had to pay for what college I went to alone with having to parents! Out of wedlock the father has to pay for college but did my father even- and is marriage that great of a thing or is it just a government write off for two people when they're together! And with a nearly 50 percent divorce rate in this country and some people being married many times in a church is marriage just to keep the church profitable- the economy going or to see how elaborate we all can be for one day and for a week of vacation! Me myself can stay home the rest of my life and be just as happy - with illness everywhere and aids patients using public facilities spreading it that way but also through hatred and carelessness! I don't care to meet new people as most people are foolish enough to say god didn't create the devil but then also say he created all things! The girl is better off to save her money and loose her second religion and spend her money on her family that she one day may have instead of being foolish enough to listen to a man say take the blood - now the body - Oh and now you go communicate with other christians! Their is probably over 100 christian faith so we should be asking what kind of a christian instead of being like the government and associating them all together when they can't even get along through they're own groups let alone with another branch of the christian faith! Or shall I also mention chrisitians which some are catholic and a few others but when you listen they'll use the word "too" so they can say they're like you! Religion is what is wrong with the world and what creates these terrorists groups- that's why they go home from jail and get an aplause for killing over two hundred from another country! Let the flag wave andlet the stars change- this country is divided as the religious orginizations they grant to- these states laws are not the same as the next one and the next one- they say together we stand but yet we have never done anything but argue- adobt different laws according to state just because the amount of religion that resides within it- OR SHALL I SAY EVIL WITHIN IT! All of alaska can smoke marijuana legally and everyone- they're a state of this nation but yet terminally ill patients can't even rid they're life of pain with it- can't get rid of their anxiety with it - so we leave it to the gangs to distribute and let them thrive because the profit and because most people know it's good for their problems otherwise they wouldn't do it! And sorry scientists that lie- brain cells come back to life when the high is gone but alcohol kills them permentally! Thank the creator for one thing and that's the mind let's us read, write, but bless the god that allows us to argue and pay his preach

    Dear god,

Please stop watching me when I go poop, thats a private time, go watch someone else OK..

  • Lynda - 15 years ago

IMO, some muslims are flat insane. They cut and set fire to bystanders because a rumon that Mohammed would have approved of the Miss America Contest; they kill a family of 6 because there is a rumor that somebody in the family desecreated the koran. Maybe there is no history of abuse in Bary's family, but there is also no history of conversion to Christianity. I think the father will honor kill her. They do it all the time. I am so proud to be an American.

  • Ciarli - 15 years ago

Patty: Sharia Law says if you are an apostate you must die! A Muslim father in Texas killed his two beautiful daughters because they were becoming too American. There have been 5000 "honor" killings in our USA.
The father says he will not harm his daughter. Hey! Under Sharia Law it's okay to lie to the infidel, btw, that's anyone who isn't Muslim.

  • dayna - 15 years ago

She definately needs to be protected. They say there hasn't been any past abuse in the family, that has no baring on this case. Once you disgrace your family in the Muslim religion, the family will take the punishment into there own hands and perform a honor killing. She needs to be kept in close watch, especially if they send her back to Ohio. If they send her back, they had better put her into protective custidy not put her into the hands of her family.

  • dbritt102@comcast.net - 15 years ago

At the least social services should get involved and investigate the parents before there is any contact between them and Rafqi. She needs to be kept safe. If the parents are that radical that they would kill their own daughter, I fear for the rest of us "infidels" - they might decide we deserve to die, too.

'When in Rome..." We should insist that the American legal system is imposed on everyone - Muslims included. It's the only way. If Muslims what Sharia law, they should stay where they are or go to a country that's governed by it! It's that basic.

  • Coker - 15 years ago

In America we have the freedom to worship God. If a person decides to accept Jesus as his/her Lord and Savior, so be it. It is that person's choice. Hopefully, her family will convert to Christianity!

  • TERI - 15 years ago

Rifqa Bary is one year from being a legal adult. I pray she stays alive to live a long life as an adult. God is watching over Rifqa and I think she trusts that.
She is a brave girl and will become a brilliant, brave woman.

I believe she should be treated like any other woman or girl who fears a family member. She should be PROTECTED! Our country has many shelters for women and families who are victims of abuse.

I see a post from a representative on behalf of Governor Charlie Crist. I think this is best to keep her in Florida, but NOT with the people she met online; unless they are approved by the state as a foster home.
I think it is the responsiblity of anyone in power to do the right thing. Keep this poor girl protected until she is 18, I think this will require a shelter that is trained to protect women and children from horrible, abusive people. Anything less is irresponsible.
Governor Charlie Crist has contacted the DCFS and started to find a safe place for her. Next year she will be an adult. Until then WE NEED TO PROTECT HER!
KEEP HER IN FLORIDA, SHE WILL BE SAFE.

  • Lisa P - 15 years ago

Wow!! None of you people know anything about religion whatsoever. Muslims are very peaceful people, and only Muslim extremists follow through with "honor" killings. Fox Republican News is insighting its right wing propoganda to make everyone afraid of all Muslims and assume the worst. And you morons actually believe it. It really is a sad day in America when its own citizens are afraid of their neighbors. Grow up and go pick up a book!

  • Judy - 15 years ago

Looks like Florida is going to keep her. I just received that email from the governor's office.

  • Dorothy - 15 years ago

Can she not be delcared an Emancipated Minor? Perhaps a Christian boarding school could offer her sanctuary until she can finish her education and embark on a career. She would still have to fear that her family or their representatives would find her and do her harm.

    From: Governor Charlie Crist
Subject: Thank you for contacting Governor Charlie Crist

Thank you for contacting Governor Charlie Crist and sharing your
concerns about Ms. Fathima (Rifqa) Bary. The Governor asked that I
    respond on his behalf.

Governor Crist is committed to protecting Ms. Bary's health, safety and
welfare. Governor Crist directed the Secretary of the Department of
Children and Families, George Sheldon, to petition the court for
placement in shelter and custody under the Florida Department of
Children and Family Services (Department). As a result, the court
placed Ms.. Bary in protective custody and she has been placed in a
licensed foster care home under the supervision of the Department.

The Secretary of the Department of Children and Family Services and the
Governor's General Counsel will be at today's court hearing. Please be
assured Governor Crist will make a decision that is in the best
interests of and ensures the continued health, safety and welfare of Ms.
    Rifqa Bary.

Thank you again for taking the time to contact Governor Crist.

    Sincerely,

    Warren Davis

    Love, God.

  • jj - 15 years ago

This child deserves every means of protection available. Nothing else makes any sense.

When other cultures and religions come here to reside, they should abide by our laws, and if that isn't acceptable to them, they should stay where they are. We must NOT allow an honor killilng (it's murder, I don't care what you call it, it's murder).

Whatever it takes, every available avenue must be used to protect her.

The fact that this question has to be asked or argued is troubling within itself!

  • Michelle - 15 years ago

Whether you feel this girl has been subjected to a cult or not, or abusive parents or not, she is old enough to be emancipated from her parents and live wherever she wants.

BTW: Will someone put a cork in Mitch?!?!

  • Howard Terry - 15 years ago

I believe the girl will be murdered if she is returned. The Muslims believe it is ok to murder to save their faith and God would want them to do so.

  • Judy - 15 years ago

I will not argue religion here but Jesus would not let them stone the woman, He said "who is without sin let him cast the first stone" Please do not try to quote the Bible unless you are telling the truth! Before Jesus came they did that. We follow Jesus and His teachings.

  • Ken Fowler - 15 years ago

The court should send the father "home". How such barbaric thought and reasoning could enen be considered in our society is intolerable if infact true.

  • Michelle - 15 years ago

At the age of 17 she should be able to get legally emancipated from her parents. She is old enough to decide whether or not to live at home.

  • Judy - 15 years ago

    SeaBee,
That is a great idea if she can join the Army. She would be a great asset to us and that would get her out of trouble if she can do it!

  • Mitch - 15 years ago

R_not, honor killings are also in christianity.. O NOES!! What now?? In fact, your supposed to stone to death your gay son or daughter.. Great thing this religion... How about educate yourself on a life and planet free from religion, it's easy if you try....

CHRISTIANS LOVE TO KILL PEOPLE, EVEN IN CHURCHES, WITH LONG RIFLES!!

  • James C. Brewer - 15 years ago

She should apply for emancipation from her parents.

  • Judy - 15 years ago

Listen, they will most likely send her to Sri Lanka and have her killed there if we let her go back to them! I know many muslims and if they truly follow their religion they HAVE to kill her. I have heard them say they would kill their own mother and I knew him well who said it, he meant it! I pray they will not release her to the family. We do have freedom here, let her have it! She is almost 18 years old, she is old enough to decide what she wants. I looked at that church website and I didn't see anything that looked wrong about it. God be with her!! If they had some kind of organization that would help people in our country like her, I would support it and even volunteer to work with them. We need one.
God help her and give the judge who will decide the wisdom of Solomon! Amen

  • Cristina - 15 years ago

It is absolutely imperative that United States' government officials and members of the judicial system protect Rifqa and prevent Sharia law from taking root in our country!!!

  • Patty - 15 years ago

Granny....I have a question for you? Exactly how well do you know the Muslim Family or the 17 year old? I would guess not at all! However, you and others choose to rush to judgement once again and demonize individuals, without knowing the actual case! A previous comment made that the Muslim Religeon are deveous liars and if so, maybe this rebellious teen is better than her parents at playing the game and our system! Oh, btw, I am a "Rightwing Extremist" and proud to be in the same catergory as our Founding Fathers, also, Rightwing Extremists! I happen to not rush to judgement on every issue that presents! I feel sorry for the Judge in this case! He will damned if he does and damned if doesn't! I hope he follows the law of the land after a careful investigation! Not all Muslim families are evil, they may simply want wants best for their child! She knew exactly what she was getting herself intoand now our court system has to deal with this issue!!

  • R_not - 15 years ago

The courts should learn about some things in islam - taqiyya/kitman - the allowing of muslims to deceive infidels. And they should learn about the sharia laws, the koran and hadith that allow the killing of apostates from islam.

The courts should err on the side of the daughter for her safety.

Muslims will say 'honor killings' are not a part of islam, but all muslim countries practice it and they bring it to the lands they migrate to. And sharia laws are ok with it. I only bring up sharia laws because that is what guides muslims - they say it is based on their koran, hadith and sunnah and this is why I say we should start educating ourselves about islam and stop letting the muslims tell us about it since they do indeed practice taqiyya/kitman too often.

  • Mitch - 15 years ago

I say prosecute the nutty christians who kidnapped her, and then hang them.. Next prosecute the nutty muslim parents, and hang them...

GOD ISN'T DEAD, SINCE HE NEVER EXISTED !! WIPE OUT RELIGION, THOMAS PAINE FOR GOD!!

  • Ray - 15 years ago

This is alarmist bullshit. How would YOU feel about your daughter running away at the behest of some minister of a church named the "Global Revolution Church"? That's not a mainstream branch of Christianity. Sounds like a cult to me. Let's not paint the parents as violent extremists neither by their choice of religion nor due to the words of a girl who's may be being told a bunch of nonsense by her fellow "Christians".

Educate yourselves instead of being eating whatever plate you're given by the mainstream media, folks. http://www.globalrevolutionchurch.org/

  • Seabee - 15 years ago

I say let her join the military. she can join at 17. She can complete school GED and get paid to do so.

  • Angie - 15 years ago

PROECT this child against the insane, barbaric traditions of her family's religious views. Protect this child at all costs. That should be the priority, But oh no, these morons will send her back to her family to be slaughtered and then it will be in the media and all the government officials will shrug their shoulders and say they followed the law...baaaah..baaaah....

  • L Lee - 15 years ago

If we keep suspected terrorists, etc. here, because they face severe punishment/death if they go back to their home countries, seems utterly ridiculous that we wouldn't protect our own citizens for the same reason.

  • Daniel Post - 15 years ago

Where is the ACLU on this? If they feel that a 12 year old has control of her own body regarding getting an abortion, why don't they advocate for a 17 year old that needs the protection of the law? She is certainly old enough to be emancipated, and stay where she will be reasonably safe.

  • Granny - 15 years ago

John............Would you please awnser a couple of questions for me? 1. Are you a black person? 2. Are you of the muslem faith? 3. Are you attempting to make it easier for her family or you, yourself, to kill her.? just asking

  • MNGuy - 15 years ago

No Activist Judges! Do what the law says!

  • patty - 15 years ago

    SusieK
Please stop rushing to judgement without know the facts as they present! This girl is neither a citizen or Floridian! I wonder how she will show her gratitude to our great country later on in life!
What right do you have in suggesting those responsible for sending her back would have blood on their hands if anything happens! She put herself in this position and knew what she was doing and that's obvious! Now she expects our court system to step in and get involved! Please! We have enough to deal with in our once great nation without this!

  • Patty - 15 years ago

John.G You just made my point in earlier post. It doesn't matter what they decide in the court today, if as she is stating is factual in her case, sending her back or keeping her in Florida will not safe her! Oth than giving her a new identity as they do in the witness protection scenario! Unfortunately, some in that program are found and killed!
I say God Bless this child, she definately needs our love and prayers.

  • Mike Allen - 15 years ago

According to our Christian Bible. We are accountable to God for our sins, at the age of 12. This young girl wants to be a Christian, then she should be permitted to be one. Without her parents permission. I hope Florida can help her. I Would hate think she goes back to her parents, and we hear they sent her back to her homeland to be murdered. This would be so wrong. Let her do as she so wishes, and live in peace. God bless her. She is on the right track.

  • SusieK - 15 years ago

There is no "honor" in murdering a child because they disagree with your belief system. This is not a Muslim country. This is America where the law is meant to
protect it's people. If this girl is returned and murdered all those responsible for sending her back will have blood on their hands.

  • Patty. - 15 years ago

Donna B, I agree with you 100%. Islam and honor killings are rampant in the UK!

  • Susan - 15 years ago

Also, check out how she lost her vision in one eye. Was this accident parent-related?

  • Saoirse - 15 years ago

I have heard the reports about how the fathers states she is in no danger and will not be harmed. However, "honor" being what it is with muslims, I do not believe him. She will be killed if she is sent back and it is the courts duty to protect her, just like they would any abuse victim.
That being said, I view this as a major problem because it is not just about abuse or the threat to life but a battle between Christianity and Islam. If she is not sent back, will there be reprisals (if anyone one knows anything about Islam....I suspect there will be). If she is sent back, then the reprisal will be solely against her.....an honor killing. These types of killings go on all over the world and have happened in our country many times.
The judge in this case has a hard decision to make. I feel for him and the position he is in. But I think he needs to consider that her life is in emminent danger and his first thoughts and decision should go to protecting Rifqa, not protecting the rights of her family.
    My prayers are with Rifqa!

  • Patty - 15 years ago

After thought! I think everyone is rushing to judgement without knowing the details of this case as always!! I would prefer we find out more about the Family to determine if this teen is just being rebellious!

  • Susan - 15 years ago

When is her birthday? Drag the case out until she turns 18! She is old enough at 17 to decide whether she is safe or not.

  • Patty - 15 years ago

I would check out this Global "Christian" church. If this child has been abused prior to running away? I see no evidence and anytime DCF get involved they have screwed up anyway! If, as this teen states she fears for her life by her Father then she also must realize their faith and father will find her wherever she goes!
The only thing that would protect her is for FBI to give her a new identity and she would be required to disconnect with everyone around her at this time and for many years to come! Sad and barbaric as it is to Christians, we always critisize DCF or government getting involved between Parents and under aged children! Mabe this child is a typical rebellious teenager! We have witnessed many times how kids will turn against their parents when they cant get what they want! Who knows? I hope it all works out well for all concerned and if the parents are good loving muslims parents and only want the best for their child, she will see the light and embrace her family!
We dont know enough about the situation as it presents at this point!

The girl should remain in Florida. If the father dosn't kill her it could be an uncle, cousin, brother or some relative. In Ontario Canada 3 young girls & an aunt were found dead in a car in a canal. The father & mother were crying on tv it seemed like they were sincere but the son & father were charged with there murder because the daughters were becoming to westernised. My wife was born & raised in a muslim country, she was a christian. When she sees muslims on tv talking about how good islam is & peacful she says its all lies.I have a pastor friend who was a muslim was in the secret police converted to christanity sentence to death & escaped. I asked him what islam is all about he said its all about killing.

  • Janet - 15 years ago

Please consider child abuse as the main concern here. Should we not believe the child when they say they are in danger. And would we not in any other case take a child from their parents in less grave cituations?

  • Opie - 15 years ago

Does anyone know Judge Daniel Dawsons email address to write to him?????

  • Don - 15 years ago

We keep letting people from other Countries come here and we are expected to bow down to their belief's or be forced to take sensitivity classes. We are allowing our great USA be stolen from us, right before our eyes. Honor killings, death to infidels (whites) will be the norm in our near future.
Thanks Ted and all your liberal buddy's, for making our Country into a future toilet.

  • Sarah - 15 years ago

How can John say she will not be killed? There is a possibility, and perhaps a strong one. Of course we do not know all the facts and perhaps there is another reason she ran away, but with the information she is giving, I would say the risk is viable. It is unfortunate, but women in the US and Canada who follow Islam have been killed for much less, such as wearing a short skirt and rejecting traditional dress. To give up the God you were raised with? I would say that is quite a bit more serious. This is rare here. But we would be blind to say it does not happen. To say it will be interesting to see what happens is to say the least about this particular situation.
