The Bible says that SIN is a "transgression of the law."
Whosoever committeth sin transgresseth also the law: for sin is the transgression of the law. (1 John 3:4 KJV)
I find it hard to believe that Christians who have crucified the flesh with the affections and lusts (Galatians 5:24) and have become dead to sin (Romans 6:2) transgress God's law every day of their life. Especially when they have hid God's Word in their heart, that they might not sin against HIM! (Psalm 119:11)
Sin is not the the daily struggle for the true Christian. . . temptation is. We also know that temptation is not sin because Jesus was also tempted and was without SIN! (Hebrews 4:15)
Alright you daily, sinning pseudo-christians, show me the Scriptures that allows you to sin daily. Who gave you a free pass to sin. . . it definitely wasn't God! If you are sinning daily, you need to repent of your sins so you can obtain the Grace and power of God Almighty to overcome sin in your life. NO repentance, NO Grace. No Grace, No salvation.
You CAN STOP SINNING. . . and you MUST to inherit eternal salvation. (Revelation 21:27) Don't be deceived any longer. Resist the devil and he WILL flee from you! (James 4:7)
To clarify my position a bit, I voted "yes" not because I think Christians cannot be free from sin and have victory over it but because I believe that salvation is free to all who believe. Sinnless living is not a prerequisite of eternal life. Read Paul's epistles! In 1&2 Corinthians we read of carnal Christians who Paul writes to chide them for their sin!
Interesting question! We are sinners, and therefore and NOT perfect. If we could live without sinning, we wouldn't be considered sinners, and would be in no need for a Saviour. God is great, and He can help us to stay in the WORD, and to "resist the devil" so that "he will flee". I can't answer this question for everyone, of course. :) However, the Bible does tell us to confess our sins--not implying that we sin everyday, but we do need to be always careful to keep our hearts clean before Him whether or not we sin everyday. I liked the question on the poll. I read the comments, and decided to leave one myself. I voted "No". We strongly believe that Jesus' blood not only saves us from the penalty of sin, but also from the power of sin!! I believe that it is an insult to the Saviour of the world to say that He cannot keep us from sinning. Why did He come but to "save the people from their sin"? God bless you! Haylee Shields
I think Christians who are REALLY walking close to Jesus, filled with the Holy Spirit and with a real desire to please God, can avoid deliberate sin on a daily basis. I do think however, if you think of sin in the terms of thought, word and deed it is very hard to avoid non-deliberate sin and of course, only God can give us the strength and grace.

First off, I love Jesus the Christ but after reading others posts. I wanted to share my thoughts. I think that was 600 or so laws located throughout the first 5 books of the bible and with that said who knows them all? Not I, I know most of them, a lot of them and with God's help and Christ's blood I don't need to worry about breaking them. But that doesn't mean that I don't break the law. He (Jesus) has done the work and in him, he hides my SIN (breaking of the Law) so that our father doesn't see my SIN but his perfect son who lives in me. So do I think that a Christian who are REALLY walking close to Jesus, filled with the filled with the Holy Spirit and with a real desire to please God, can avoid deliberate sin on a daily basis but since we are still on this fallen earth, still in the flesh, and are not the only begotten son (the perfect version) do we sin yes, daily most likely. Just ask the young rich ruler that Jesus talked too or Paul (Saul).
@Bri
You said sinless living was not a prerequisite of eternal life, but Jesus says otherwise. He says if ye love me, ye will keep my commandments (John 14:15). He also commands us in the Bible to "sin not" (1 John 2:1-5) and again says if we love him, we will keep his commandments. Only "he that overcometh" will not have his name blotted out of the book of Life (Revelation 3:5).
The Scriptures teach us that "he that committeth sin is of the devil" (1 John 3:8) and that a man cannot serve two masters (Matthew 6:24 & Luke 16:13). By saying there are "carnal Christians" (aka Christian sinners) then you are saying that a man is serving two masters - God by claiming the name of Christ and Satan by committing sin. Christ makes it clear in the Scriptures that this is not possible - you'll either serve one, or the other.

@Tessa
If one is a "sinner" that means he is committing willful acts of sin and is a servant of Satan. To say one can be a Christian (Christ-like) and still be a servant of the devil is not at all Biblical ~ as a matter a fact, the Bible says that a man cannot serve two masters (Matthew 6:24 & Luke 16:13). Either we are a servant of righteousness or we are servants of sin, we cannot be both at the same time, according to the Scriptures.
If we sin every day, there is no possible way to keep our hears clean before him! The Bible says "He that saith, I know him, and keepeth not his commandments, is a liar, and the truth is not in him."
Meaning that -- "He that saith I know him" - you're saying you know him by calling yourself a Christian - "and keepeth not his commandments" - by committing acts of sin daily - "is a LIAR and the truth is NOT in him." it can't get any clearer than that.
My little children, these things write I unto you, that ye sin not. (1 John 2:1)

@Pauline
If a "Christian" is daily committing acts of sin, then he is not of God! "Know ye not, that to whom ye yield yourselves servants to obey, his servants ye are to whom ye obey; whether of sin unto death, or of obedience unto righteousness?" (Romans 6:16) To whom ye yield yourselves... if you're sinning daily, you're yielding yourself to sin and are therefore a servant "of sin unto death".
A Christian not only "can avoid" it... a Christian MUST avoid sin! A Christian is commanded to depart from iniquity (2 Timothy 2:19), be holy (1 Peter 1:15-16), and perfect (Matthew 5:48). We cannot be the things a Christian is supposed to be if we are the servants of sin and sinning daily.
Sin is no light matter with the Lord.. sin is what separates us from God, and the true Christian will abhor sin and the very appearance of evil.

I voted yes, I'll explain why. As it stands, we're still working towards perfection. I DO believe we can be perfect through Christ and live a sinless life, but I also believe it's the work of a lifetime. Right now, I believe we still sin, but slowly God is working on our hearts, changing us. Very soon will come the time when our lives must be so perfectly close to Christ's that we will live sinless, or lose our salvation. But our merciful God has allowed us a just a little more time to reach the goal, as He knows we are but dust.
But please don't get me wrong - I do believe perfection is the goal, and achievable. Men have gone before that God considered "upright and perfect in all their ways." :)
I do not think that if we are truly Christians that we can sin on a daily basis. If we are alive in Christ then we are dead to sin. That doesn't mean that we don't make mistakes or sin at all because we are not perfect - we are being perfected, but we're not perfect yet.
I answered 'yes'.
I feel this way because I see sin as ANYTHING which is against God's laws, 'insults' God's deity and/or is not perfect. Therefore, even as Christians, we are not perfect and sometimes are heart motives are not in line with God's and what He wants, and so this is 'sin' because it is not God's perfect will.
I really wish there was a "maybe" on this poll. I can't give a definite "yes" or "no" so I didn't vote. Sin is a transgression of the law, and so we ought not sin... but if we say we have no sin we decieve ourselves. So, obviously we sin.
I think we must strive not to continue sin knowingly, and by God's grace we can do so. By continuing to sin knowingly I mean sinning when you're aware that what you are doing is a sin. That is, if you know from the beginning or become aware of the sin while commiting it and continue to sin. We definately can and should not sin knowingly on a daily basis.
But, we can also commit sin without knowing it, either because we aren't aware that what we are doing is a sin or because someone causes us to sin when we are not aware of it (ex. someone serves you food with blood in it and you don't know the blood is there). When we become aware of these sins we should confess them and ask forgiveness, but if we are not aware, then God's grace can cover them. I don't know how often we commit these sins (only God does) and I imagine it's different for every person, which is why I didn't answer the poll.
Perfection and complete freedom from sin should be our goal, but we live in a fallen world, so I don't think we can achieve complete perfection in this world, but we can come close. 1 John 8-10 says " If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. If we say that we have not sinned, we make him a liar, and his word is not in us." In this world we will always have sin, but when we find we have sinned we are to fonfess our sins, He will cleanse us and we are not to continue sinning (ie stop commiting that sin).
My vote is absolutely ‘No’! True born-again Christians do not sin, there is no Scripture that says they do - but numerous saying the opposite. “Whosoever is born of God doth not commit sin; for his seed remaineth in him: and he cannot sin, because he is born of God”- 1 John 3:9 To be born-again means that the old nature dies and we receive a new nature (Christ’s) when we receive the Holy Ghost. The ‘fruit’ our life bears is then ‘Christ-like’, not of the world. Jesus Christ was the sin offering, He died for our sin. The Bible tells us that by one Spirit we are baptized into one body. The Believer is covered by the Blood and free from the judgements, his life is hid in Christ. The Believer has no desire to sin, if he does then something is wrong. He will have trails and temptations and he may make mistakes, but not because he wants to. Sin is horrible to a true Believer.

Hi there, you need to be very careful on how you answer such a question. Because, scriptures to teach yes, that the wages of sin is death (Romans 6:23).
Secondly.. there is no such thing as a TRUE born again christian. you either are or you aren't. A born again christian is one, who puts their trust in Christ an acknowledges that they are a sinner. Scriptures say IF you sin.. we have a mediator to the Father which is our Lord Jesus Christ.. not WHEN you sin.
A Christian can sin (it doesnt make it right...) however, we sin everyday.. it could be unconsiously, or even in our habits... however.. through the power of the Lord Jeuss Christ, we can move towards holiness and perfection.
Faith without works is dead(James 2); and vice versa. Saying we dont sin is a sin in itself. We do sin. which is why we need a SAVIOUR!! otherwise.. what did He die for? We ought not to sin..
One can be a Christian and try their best not to sin but fall and make mistakes... and another could be a 'great' (note i put it in commas) Christian. Both will receive the promise of salvation. The Lord said that the first shal be last and the lst shall be first...
Jessica, you contradict urself by sayings first that NO.. absolutely not that a Christian can't sin. but then you later say that a Christian can make mistakes.. isnt that sinning?
We put our eternal trust in Christ to see us through these darks times.. we love HIm and believe in Him.. AND BEAR GOOD FRUIT!!! and Ackowledge we are sinners and preach the good news....
Dont focus on sin.. focus on the promise of the Lord Jesus Christ
Focus n the truth, the way and the life!!
God bless you

There are some great scripture quotes and ideas here that I do agree with...however, If you walk with God and obey his commands and trully love him and hate sin, Is it God that fails you when you do Sin, or is it the imperfection of your flesh that is "cut away". We must constantly renew our minds, stay in the word of our mighty God and understand both sides that are presented here. To think that you live a perfect life and do not sin leads to a pride that is from satan, boastfulness that is not of God. We are expected to live a life for Christ and to be living sacrifices for him. This means to obstain from sin in all of your "corrupt nature" also anyone who can boldly sin with no remorse and then say they follow chrst is a hipocrit...Loook at the pain, suffering and even death that the followers of Christ have faced and the horrifying image of Christ's death, For the forgiveness of Sin, for the way the truth and the life in Jesus...Few will find it...Renwew your mind and turn from sin...Run from it do all you can to stay away from it...But do not beat yourself up if you realize you have been sinning, or make a mistake...Jesus's work was finished on the cross.
I think there is a misunderstanding of what sin really is. Smoking, drinking, unclean living, etc are not sin, but attributes of sin. Sin is unbelief - you do those things because you do not believe God's Word. A sinner is not born-again - he is simply a sinner.
If we believe the Word of God, how do you justify that we remain sinners, when truly born-again, when there is NO scripture for it, but many confirming the opposite. I would encourage anyone unsure of this to pray and search the Scriptures; the answers are all there.
As born-again Christians we are made perfect through the Blood of Christ. This does not mean that we are perfect in the flesh, we make mistakes, but not because we desire to do so. I reiterate once again that sin is unbelief in God's Word - how can you have the Holy God in the form of the Holy Ghost dwelling in you and then declare that you sin? Impossible! To do so is to trample the Blood of Christ underfoot and count It of non-effect.
Yes, when the Lord Jesus died on the cross, it was a finished work. We don't become saints one day and the next go back to being sinners, next day back to a saint and so on. We are either one or the other. There's no such thing as a well-sick man, or a white-black bird, there's no such thing as a sinner-saint.
HEBREWS 10:14 "For by one offering he hath perfected for ever them that are sanctified. "
The Blood of Christ has never and will never lose Its' power! God saves AND KEEPS!
May God bless you.

According to Bible, we can live sinless life if we want!This is possible through Jesus.1John 1 says God is light and whoever claims to be His must walk in light. Also 1Peter 1:15-17.
This needs daily denial .Luke 9:23 and ! and !
