I think that if the race wants to run past midnight, it should start earlier. I love a good race but by midnight I am ready to go home. The noise is VERY loud and can be heard for miles but it is a great sport that many people enjoy. Like everything else, we should consider others feelings and close down at a decent hour. That way, people who love racing can enjoy while those living nearby can get relief and go to bed and rest at a decent hour. It really doesn't matter what you do, you are not going to make everyone happy so why not compromise?

If a football game or a baseball game runs longer than its allowed time it is still played out. Racing is a sport too and most local racing is done at night so that working people can pertisipate. People enjoy racing just like other sports!

I do not see why a track should have to shut down in the middle of a race. These race tracks have been around for years and yet people move close to them and then want to complain. Since when did they start shutting down noisy bars, ball games, special events, fairs, ect.. at 12 midnight every night because of noise?

Well said Robin! I will second that.... These people dont realize how good this sport is for the economy also..... I know just here in the upstate it is a multi million dollar a year industry... Just go to Travelers Rest speedway on a saturday night and you will see what im talking about!

I don't think race tracks should have to shut down at 12 midnight because people work there tails off during the week to have good family fun like racing. Yes it may be a little loud but people need to look at it like this, it gives people a place to go in stead of doing something they should not be doing,it brings money to the towns and counties which this country needs right now, racing even helps out shriners and even when people are need i've seen tracks take up money for them. I have seen to many tracks shut down because of this. People need to look at the positive side of things instead of being so negative.

I hate stock car racing and only have been to one race in my life. They are loud, but its a sport that poeple enjoy and there are tons of poeple that are involved in it. It does bring another source of revenue to the communites. I think too, The people who mostly complain about the racing events in their community are the new comers who just moved there. Just like all the snobby rich people who cried to get that track shut down in TR on HWY 11 so they could chase their golf balls and sit on their $500 chair on the porch late evenings. If someone tries to take the sport away from the drivers, teams, and fans, they need to get those dagjm bicyle people off the road that are always holding up traffic and making the roads more dangers. Thats a little more annoying then hearing race cars for a couple of hours. Bopper BJ Johnson

I love dirt track racing and so do my kids. My two boys 6 & 8 years old are excited every week about going to the races. Yeah, its loud, but if you saw the way their faces light up when the green flag drops...priceless!!! Besides its only for one night, a few hours a night...and it helps keep kids off the streets and out of trouble!!!

COME ON NOW ! RACE TRACK NOISE??
TRAINS ARE NOSIER AND SO ARE EIGHTEEN WHEELERS THE PEOPLE WHO PROTEST TRACKS RUNNING PAST MIDNIGHT ARE ( IN MY OPINION ) IN THE MINORITY THAT LOVES TO BUCK THE SISTEM
LIKE THE SMALL GROUP THAT WANTS GOD TAKEN OUT OF SCHOOLS AND GOVERMENT
OR THE ONED WHO DOESN'T WANT INDIAN NAMES ATTACHED TO SPORTS TEAMS
THESE GROUPS ARE WINNING THEIR FIGHT BECAUSE WE (THE OTHER BELIEVERS) VOTE TO IGNORE THE PROTESTERS AND SOOOOOO THEY WIN

Over the past 30 years, I've been to over 100 race tracks around the country, both dirt and paved, and have seen that most are finished by midnight. Jody Palmer at the Travelers Rest Speedway (dirt track) starts early and is finished well before midnight. He has good car counts, puts on good shows, and has almost no delays between heats and features. Jody and his staff prove weekly that a race track can be managed well.

in economic times as trying as these, anyone who is willing to take a chance on investing money into a venture as risky as running a racetrack should be given all the help from local officials that is possible. the economic impact that a successful track would have on oconee county probably will not be widespread, but for the few convenience store owners and restaurant owners who get a little extra business on friday nights will appreciate it. the racetrack will also provide a welcome distraction from the "recession" for a few thousand people. a few hours of noise and dust is a small price to pay if it brings gratification to a large number of people. perhaps the track promoters could invite the more vocal opponents of the racetrack to some VIP treatment one friday night to try and sway their opinion.

For the uninformed that say just start earlier on Friday nights that is not possible. People have to have time to go home changeclothes, eat then travel to the track, same for the race teams. I echo the earlier comments about the new comers are the ones raising a stink. THEY SHOULD BE SUEING THIER REAL ESTATE BROKERover non-disclosure. And a quick note to Westminster Speedway, If you know your gonna run late keep the police out of the infield so they cant block the track. LOL
