Is Micháel Martin right to condemn the conviction of Burmese pro-democracy leader Aung San Suu Kyi?

Of course. It is his duty as Foreign Affairs Minister to express views held by the vast majority of Irish people.

No. The Minister would be wiser to hold his counsel on controversial international issues, as such statements may have repercussions down the line.

The Minister is right to condemn the conviction, but it would be better if he was equally forthright on other contentious international issues, perhaps closer to home.
