I already do!

2009-08-12 06:20:19 ET

I have experienced security concerns with this service, hence I am not that keen to expose my business to this risk.

2009-08-12 06:23:33 ET

Yes, as long as there is not a double charge (i.e. transaction fee plus paypal fee).

I would need more information -- fees, how it works, etc. Are we talking about accepting payments that go into my Paypal account? Or payments made FROM other people's Paypal accounts that go directly into my business bank account? I don't really see the need for the former, but I'd be interested in the latter, depending on fees, etc.

2009-08-12 06:26:30 ET

Definitely not, I cancelled my PayPal membership after I was charged exhorbitant fees for overseas payments. I also protest against the eBay/PayPal monoply.

2009-08-12 06:29:56 ET

I'm up for accepting it if you can levy a set transaction fee. 1.5% from the bank is bad enough for visa etc but paying AMEX style rates for paypal is overrated at the merchant end.

2009-08-12 06:31:46 ET

If the cost was identical or cheaper I would see it as a good thing to offer.

2009-08-12 06:32:20 ET

We use our paypal account to make USD payments which save on FX conversion. If the fees were less than paypal then maybe.

2009-08-12 06:32:35 ET

Very interested in processing PayPal through eWay....when can we go?

Yes as long as it is worth it. I don't really want to pay 3 fees, ie. Bank, eway an paypal. I don't use paypal anymore for business because it was costing me more than eway and the bank fees put together.

2009-08-12 06:36:33 ET

Yes, but their over the top charges put me off. You have to wait for your money then they want to charge more than the big banks charge for credit cards

too hard for most people to set up

2009-08-12 06:37:40 ET

We already have a PayPal account set up, so don't see the value for us.
I would not be interested in any more fees and charges!

No interest, paypal don't deposit monies into your bank account, they make money off your money and then take weeks to deposit into your bank account, they also have a limit of how much you can transfer without incurring fees, it's an absolute rort of a system. And then there's the ebay monopoly, not fair trade.

2009-08-12 06:43:34 ET

NO...they are a pack of thieves, their charges are way to high to make doing business via their services viable. They can get away with it for "mums and dads" because they don't have any real option, but for business they are a bad joke...

2009-08-12 06:47:09 ET

No, I chose Eway to replace Paypal.
Paypal will not accept payments from every country. They will also try to push people into creating an account, which people are reluctant to do.
At 4.7% their fees were also higher. They were only economical if processing a small number of transactions per month.

2009-08-12 06:49:11 ET

Few of our clients would likely pay through PayPal, but I think it would be useful for many other business models..

2009-08-12 07:16:09 ET

I don't understand what benefit you are offering over the normal paypal system - a lot of my business is through paypal now.

2009-08-12 07:17:26 ET

When researching them, there were quite a lot of negative feedback, which is reflected in the comments already made. I don't think I need another 3rd party in transactions.

2009-08-12 07:28:54 ET

Absolutely we and clients would be interested, IF it could be done totally seamlessly without having to leave our website and could all be done through an XML interface.

Obviously the cost would play a factor, but being able to pay only a small fee for total integration and stay on my own website for all payments would be very useful.

2009-08-12 07:47:12 ET

All dependent on charges. Some of our customers use PayPal and obviously find it convenient but the charges to us are high. Transactions via one source at a reasonable price point would be preferable.

2009-08-12 07:54:02 ET

This really concerns me as (a) I feel their brand (PayPal) is badly damaged here in Australia and (b) their business model is heavily slanted against the merchant with high fees, business process barriers, and a worrying focus on driving people away from our sites to PayPal (remember, people came to engage with me, not conduct a PayPal transaction).

My personal opinion is that given eWay's relationship with First Data International, I would be very concerned if eWay hooked up with PayPal as I see this as a worrying concentration of payments processing - this is bad for all of us.

Given eWay has made their business by delivering a very good service to their customers why can't Matt the CEO come out and give us some background as to why this type of deal is on the agenda?

C'mon Matt, where's this going? What is it you say on the website - without ever sacrificing the quality support and attention that separates eWAY from its competitors...

I have no need for it at present and it's difficult to make an informed answer with limited information given about how it would work, fees and charges. So my answer must be no.

As long as the fees do not increase, already accept paypal so would not want to pay eway fees, plus paypal fees

Rob
2009-08-12 08:34:18 ET

Yes because I already accept Paypal. Would love it if you could reduce the fees. I have customers that will only pay via Paypal and that's the only reason I have it. I think that having the option of Paypal through a combined gateway with eWay means one less gateway that needs to be established.

Currently the Paypal gateway is an "add on" to my cart and doesn't work well - the eWay gateway works perfectly and I would prefer a single process. Not having to reconcile an additional account and also continually transfer funds from my Paypal account will reduce admin so sounds good to me.

I wouldn't want to pay any additonal fees is my main thing. Paypal can afford to pay eWay a spotters fee on my behalf as they bend me over with fees at the moment. If the level of fees overall doesn't change I would prefer eWay get some of them over Paypal - I really don't like the Paypal business model from a merchants perspective.

My Shopping cart already interfaces to paypal - so I don't understand what benefit you are offering over the normal paypal system. Are you referring to sales that don't come via the Shopping cart - if so, I'd be interested; but NOT if there are any charges

We already accept payment thru PP and Eway. There is a certain customer confidence that comes thru the use of PP, I think for that reason it's necessary to have both. However, I am in full agreement with some of the below comments about paying three times the fees for the same service that we now experience with PP for the one. It would be nice to understand the added value to send PP thru eway. I congratulate eway, on it's customer service. If it works out equal to what I am currently paying, I would be happy to support eway.

2009-08-12 08:56:15 ET

Why?

What would be the point of setting a merchant account with the bank?

I went eway to get away from Paypal.

2009-08-12 08:57:28 ET

I am already offering Paypal - so what difference would this make.

2009-08-12 09:18:25 ET

Only if the eWay fees are better than the current (overpriced) Paypal charges

Yes I think accepting Paypal would be good as it opens your market to accepting a greater number of potential customers.
I receive requests from potential customers all the time asking if they can pay via Paypal as they don't have a credit card.
But as long as I don't personally, or my business have to start a Paypal account.
As long as the Paypal account is part of Eways system.
Paypal are pricks to deal with & a law into themselves.

I would rather Eway deal with Paypal directly & leave me out of that loop.
Eway accepts the payment via Paypal, then forwards the money to my account.
I don't have to deal with Paypal, but I can accept Paypal payments.
Perfect.

2009-08-12 09:55:37 ET

No, I do not trust Paypal as I have had one run in with Paypal.

For a AU$100 wich leave customer account I get into my bank account AU$82.7
This is not too bad for PayPal owner.
This is the only experience I had with PayPal and it was the last one.
It is very personal experience.

I used to have a paypal account, to except payments, and transfer money to my suppliers.
One day they decided they saw some activity they didn't like - locked the account due to what ever rules they like to use. With NO warning.
Let me tell you, the are the most unhelpful people alive, all the do is cut and paste answers to you, and won’t even answer direct questions.
You can't call them and discuss the issues - only email allowed - and this is all while you are trying to run a business.
They are useless - and I am being polite.
Have you ever heard of a “bank” that you can’t call and talk to?
Don’t get me started on the charge backs from the customers, it is out of your control.
You maybe able to guess I hate paypal with a passion, that was because I was done over by them – and there is nothing you can do about.
Imagine having $50,000 locked up, and there is no one you can go to for help.
They are not a bank, like they pretend to be, they are an arrogant law unto themselves.

2009-08-12 10:30:53 ET

could we please have the automated pay by phone service

2009-08-12 10:51:30 ET

I didn't know you could get PayPal through you guys! I just closed my merchant account because I wanted to add PayPal and switch back to Australian Dollars! Its gonna cost me another $1200 to set up another merchant account all over again. :-(

Would be interested if there were no additional charges or more importantly there was some way of leveraging a better rate deal.

Ros
2009-08-12 11:34:48 ET

We already have several PayPal accounts set up, and have found charges high. Would need to know:
a) the additional fees and charges that would be levied either directly by PayPal or indirectly by eWay. eWay's leverage should be able to reduce these considerably...
b) that the Icon/button options to pay would be OPTIONS - either using eWay/Credit Card OR PayPal. I find their propensity to take over payment gateways on co-shared sites to be infuriating...

2009-08-12 12:32:35 ET

Would be great to only have to deal with one gateway. If you could make it transparent and make it similar to just another "card type" - that would be ideal.
What would be even better is offering a service that would compete with paypal and allow us merchants to accept credit card payments (or any type of payment) without a merchant number - resulting in one set of fees only!

I will never use Paypal again. I used to love selling on ebay although because PayPal is now a required payment option i have moved my business to my own website. If you sell items the buyer can either open a paypal dispute and say they never received the item and if you are unable to send tracking information to PayPal the buyers get their money back. Its even worse if they call their credit card company and say they never authorised the payment. You have to refund the full amount to the buyer and pay paypal a $25 chargeback fee. The paypal fees are up to 4x the amount that banks charge for merchant transactions.
Avoid PayPal. They are a bunch of thieves and their policies are rediculous

2009-08-12 20:59:59 ET

I would expect that like all eWay products / services security & merchant fees would be exceptionally competitive.

If these are not the case - i would not be interested in this service

BUT

I suspect being eWay these would be seamless to our offering to our customers.

I have only ever had a PayPal account for a few weeks. In that time, my account was hacked, and money was stolen. I subsequently reviewed a lot of Internet literature about PayPal and was horrified by the frequency that this kind of thing occurred - and by the comments from other PayPal users regarding their experience with PayPal when it happened. As a result, I closed my PayPal account immediately. I do not intend to return.

2009-08-12 21:18:10 ET

Yes, as long as there is not a double charge (i.e. transaction fee plus paypal fee).

2009-08-12 21:35:09 ET

Customers have asked the same question and seem disappointed that Eway does not accept PayPal

2009-08-13 00:19:09 ET

We used to have paypal integrated as a payment option - before we began using eWay. However, the integration took customers off our site for part of the process. Customers found this confusing and a very bad user experience.

We use PayPal as a non-integrated option on our payment. Customers select PayPal option and we send them a paypal invoice. It is not integrated but is a much, much better customer experience.

If eWay were to integrate paypal in a way that did not take customers off our site, was easy to integrate, provided a nice user experience, and as others have pointed out did not increase cost (at little might be OK) we would be game.

The experience I had yesterday was a bit worrying. I ran into a bit of trouble and rang their customer service which is outsourced to the Phillipines. The chap was "uming and ahhing" and basically made up answers as he went along. Paypal is fast gaining reputation as a renegade company. They are not a bank and certainly aren't governed and regulated as normal banks are. Whilst Paypal will open up your business, use them with caution as they will let in both good and bad! The risk is too high for my business.

2009-08-13 00:36:55 ET

I Have had experience with paypal and they are overpriced. Who pays the merchant or the customer. Do we get charged by Eway and Paypal

2009-08-13 01:04:02 ET

No, we went with Eway to replace PayMate (similar to PayPal) - we found them too dear, which is why we changed.

Larry
2009-08-13 01:26:20 ET

paypal is for separate personal purposes unrelated to my main business

2009-08-13 06:19:22 ET

We already have a Paypal Account and already offer that method of payment to our valued clients as well as c/cds through eWay. Would eWay be charging paypal fee plus eWay fee? What would the benefit be for those who already have a PayPal Account?

2009-08-13 12:49:47 ET

There is only a benifit if the overall transaction fees are reduced, meaning if paypal and EWAY can come to an agreement to lower the combined transaction fees. If I have to pay the same paypal fee together with an EWAY fee then there is no benifit at all.

Currently Eway only for Australian buyers. Would like to extend that to international buyers and in such cases would be keen to use paypall for those if costs not exhorbitant as seen with paypal?
