I prefer to use just about anything other than iTunes, mainly due to not being able to play the tracks on some of my equipment (I know you can get round it but why do I need to), why should I change my (perfectly good) car stereo just to play tracks I have paid for. I still get the CD if possible (mp3 does not compare on quality) or search for a non DRM version, some artists will offer a mail order CD and give you a download version to use in the meantime.
spotify is better then ever think :)
