Should you be compensated for cow attacks if you're walking on a public footpath?

Totally agree with Jill if the field has a public footpath through it than the farmer should only put live stock that wouldnt attack anybody or think allowed to pass through, the farmer isnt allowed to let his dog attack you on a public footpath through his farm yard he has to take precations by enclosing the dog or keeping it else where if not walkers complain to the local authority and there is trouble why is being trampled by cows on a public foot path less of a controllable risk than being bitten in a farm yard by a dog?

If the farmer provides a suitable alternative path then that would be an answer.

I agree it is almost impossible to answer yes or no to this question, however I think that if a farmer puts such livestock in a field he should bare some responsbility for those who use it. Would he be tolerant of those who climb a fence and walk through an adjacent field to avoid the cattle? Have any of the people who voted NO to the poll been on a long days walk with their extremely well behaved dog and found their way totally blocked by such an obsticle. What are you supposed to do then! Turn back and retrace the ten miles they have already done? We nead resposibilty taken on both sides.

Impossible to answer Yes or No: if someone takes a dog through a herd with calves, they deserve all they get after many instances of publicity: on the other hand, if an innocent walker is attacked for no apparent reason, there is room for debate.
