Lame, lame, lame.

Not terrible, like the condemned toast picks, but egg soufle nonetheless.

I had some with similar punch lines, but more of a build-up.

Still, this is a no pay gig. Kinda fits.

Hey, whoever wanted it short and sweet has two to pick from this week.

I think the jackass one is pretty funny!

I'm pretty sure that I got "jacked" for my ideas this week. I will have to play my cards closer to my chest.

I voted for #2 anyway.

Well it's another of those overly generalized cartoons, I think that they're running out of ideas because there hasn't been a lot of creativity lately.

# 2 is the best this week. All women like the long ones!

To Impostal, it is so nice to know that idiocy is alive and well in this week's comment section.

2009-07-25 15:42:26 ET

CJ, I had one similar, "Horace is a real stud. We met at the track".
My others: "Ed's retired. He used to be a TV star!", "Ali comes from a prominent Arabian family!", and " Tony offered a stable relationship, so we got hitched" ( I thought that last one the best ).

I like the "jackass" one of these picks . Gives a "kicker" at the end.

I liked my "Mom & Dad we're ready to strap on the feed bag".

How about...this one..."He's had a bad week, that's why the long face". Come on folks give me a smile. I was trying:)

Good one Dale, had me laughing pretty good!

Good ones Dale! I think I like #3 best out of the choices this week.

This is why I'm thinking of not bothering to enter anymore. Not waste my time thinking up funny captions, when it seems they just pick random entries as finalists. Hey Dale and anyone else who has had an entry in the finals - When did you enter the contest? Right away in the beginning, or near the end of the week?

Hung like a ...

Good to see the Caption Queen, Ms Becca back on top.

But the best caption wasn't selected! ;D

2009-07-27 19:40:53 ET

Look at the run-up in votes for #3, the most prosaic of all captions.
Proves that most Times-Tribune readers to be the dullest, with no sense of wit...only the basest understanding of humor.

Remind me to dumb it down for the crowd next time.

Dale

Cartoonguy, with all due respect, it's not the readers of the Tribune, it's the caption judges. They need to ramp up the selection process.

Dale
2009-07-27 20:28:18 ET

Cartoonguy, you might also want to consider the possibility that once the caption's author's name is printed in the paper on Saturday, there is a rallying of support by friends and co-workers with internet access.

Toony, get with it already, I keep waiting for your contest to end all contests to appear to really show the Tribune how it's done! I mean after all you're the first one that will say how great you are, so rather than looking down your pock-marked nose at the folks at the Tribune that put this contest on, get off your duff and show the rest of us peasants how it's done, since you are so all-knowing and all-powerful and all-mighty, your eminence

Good one Brian, I hope that "toony" gets the drift and pulls the phone pole out of his butt and comes back down to earth.

2009-07-28 15:52:38 ET

See, this process reverses the normal creative one. It is the writing that takes skill. The drawing and inking of the cartoon comes later. For an interesting description of this, you can hear Mike Peters ( the artist here ) tell how he does it here: http://dailycartoonist.com/index.php/2009/07/03/reports-from-the-aaec-conference-in-seattle/#comments ...Yeah, Dale...I am aware of that. It was my contention last week when some posting here took it personally.

Brian

Surprising..."toonyisthealmightybestcartooninstofalltimeandeveryoneelseisscumbecausehesayssoandhesaysjusthowgreatheis.com still comes up as an invalid address, what gives, toony?

Dale

I would still like to see an archives section of past winners/finalists. Will you make that happen Nicole, or explain why it is undoable? Just a humble suggestion. See you all next week...
