PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE.... Vote for the Tay Sachs Foundation, I am a mummy of a beautiful Angel who was diagnosed in 2006 with juvenile Tay Sachs Disease and sadly earned her wings in January 2009, Tay Sachs is a cruel disease, please help make a difference..

Hands down, vote for the Cure Tay-Sachs Foundation. This organization, only in it's second year, through sheer determination, hope, faith and a lot of hard work by the families and friends of these precious children, is raising awareness and the funds to make a difference. Check out the website and you'll believe. The research being funded is so promising--this disease is going down!!!

Look at Sophia's Heart's mission statement. "Sophia's Heart Foundation aims to reach out and touch the hearts of children from ages 0 through 18. The uniting factor among these children will be the need for restoration in various areas of their lives." Could you be any more vague? This is obviously not a real charity. Do a google search for the recently discovered timestamped photos of him partying with friends less than a month after she died.

My vote goes to Sophia's Heart, a young charity dedicated to helping young people and their families rise up out of unfortunate circumstances and as Danny says "Follow their Dreams". I feel sorry for the that pathetic little group of people who spend all their time on the internet spreading hate. I guess it makes them feel better about themselves but it's particularly shameful to do it here.

If Danny was so crushed by his wife's passing, why was he out partying with friends laughing, smiling and wearing goofy hats a few weeks later? Check out Top Idol for the shocking photos. And if he was so crushed, why did he audition for a reality show right after she died and exploit the tragedy for gain? And why did he hastily arrange a charity with his Church's shady pastor the moment he knew he'd be on national television? Huh? I haven't seen such a grief from a Widower since Scott Peterson.

To think what an impact 10k would have on malaika for life - is incredible. $10 saves one child's life from being killed from malaria. That's 10,000 kids being saved!!!

Why would anyone give money to a brand new charity with no proven track record? Do you know how each dollar will be spent - how much will go into "salaries and admin costs" vs. actual program costs? They have no financial info on their website as of yet, just "plans" that sound good in theory.
SHF needs to mature and prove itself before taking good money away from legit, deserving charities that do wonderful work.

All of the charities in the poll are deserving of $10,000. I selected Sophia's Heart Foundation. Anyone who has ever been involved in not-for profit knows that funding is the major reason why a not-for-profit succeeds or fails. Beginning a foundation takes commitment, time and money. Charities start with commitment by caring people who are willing to devote time to a good cause. This world needs more people like those who are committed to Sophia's Foundation. It is so admirable to me when individuals care so much about helping others that they take the intitiative to put their commitment to work and build a not-for profit organization. It takes very special people to do this and when they put 100% into their efforts and come up short ONLY because the funding is not available it is tragic for those involved in the organization, but mostly for those many people in need who are served by the organizaton. Those of us who do not have the commitment, time, or means that it takes to organize a foundation, surely can open our wallets to make sure that organizations like Sophia's Heart Foundation do succeed.

A note to the individuals who are writing hateful things on this page. Where is your commitment to help others, to open your heart to others? I notice that those individuals who are writing these negative comments do not even mention which charity they support. The reason for that is because you people do not care about ANY of the charites listed. You only care about spreading hate. I have to agree that the charities are all very worthy (after reading comments, I have doubts about one). However, I have personally been most affected by the precious children that have to live and die with Tay-Sachs, etc. diseases. Lilie Clark, Isaiah Cairns, Charles Anderson, Elise Rochman, Kaiden Lear,Elise TenBerge, Amelia Alford, Molly Grace Jordan, Riley Luce, Emily, William Marqhart, Dakota Bihn, and so many more that have suffered through Tay-Sachs, Sandhoff, GM1, etc. These children have such beautiful spirits although they never speak, walk, or have many gross motor skills past 6 months. A Cure is in reach....please know that your odds of having a child affected with these diseases is greater than you can imagine!! This is a most WORTHY cause.

We have legitimate concerns regarding a charity, we are voicing them becasue this is important.

I say donate to Tay_sachs. I would hate to watch my child or anyone else's child succumb to this terrible genetic disorder with no chance to survive. A cure is possible with further research which such a generous donation could make an impact. SHF probably made 80k since Danny tweeted his plea to buy merchandise on twitter. All his followers are happily obliging. I think his foundation is off to a profitable start. Good luck to his vision, but I believe saving LIVES should take a front burner.

I was the one who said they were not registered with the IRS - last time I looked they were not.
I have many concerns about SHF. Being such a young charity they have not proven they are a reputable charity and we have no idea how they intend to spend each dollar they receive.
They have a lots of lovely plans listed on their website but I am yet to see any real action.
I would love for them to prove me wrong, but until such a time, I would be very cautious about donating money to any organization that is not up front about their finances.

Amen to that. I am voting for another legit charity which actually states where the funds go. As to all the comments about hating on Danny Gokey and voting otherwise, I suppose being a fan and just voting for that reason only instead of researching the other charities which help sick children makes your voting ok then?

Charles and so many other children are suffering and had suffered because of this disease. There is currently no treatment or cure. Tay-Sachs is ALWAYS fatal in children and can also affect adults (LOTS). The Cure Tay-Sachs Foundation has been working extremely hard for the last 2 years trying to find a treatment or even better, a cure! Please vote www.curetay-sachs.org. Advice: If you aren't sure what charity you're choosing, you should look into them all BEFORE making a selection. I already knew about Tay-Sachs, and what the foundation is doing, so I knew I was voting for it before I logged on. I would imagine that most people made their choice before coming to the site, and all this arguing probably isn't changing anyone's decision. In fact, if it keeps up, some people might be so disgusted at what they're seeing they might decide not to vote at all! (If you are one of those people, please change your mind. Look into the organizations if you aren't sure, and VOTE!)

Patti, I did the research and the only one which doesn't state exactly WHERE the donations are going it Sophias heart. Tess, You can say that this has nothing to do with hate or with Danny Gokey, but in your particular case I know this to be false. I have "listened" to your over the top unwarranted hateful rantings about Danny on a particular website for awhile now. In fact, I remember on the opening night of the tour, during Danny's set on the cellcast....your words were "I hate that man." So really, let's just be honest. The only reason you and some of the others are even contributing a vote here is just to vote against Danny and then come on here and discredit him and the good that he is trying to do.

All of these organizations are very worthwhile, and I have no problem with the money going to one of the others. However, if we are being honest, Nick would not have met the deadline with followers if it were not for the fans of Danny Gokey. So, for which ever organization gets the funds, they will have not only Nick to thank, but also Danny.

At any rate this process, which should be something that warms the heart, has made me very sad and disheartened. The hateful comments should NEVER have been allowed to stay on this poll. I appreciate the fact that maybe Nick did not know how to take the comments off, but seriously, people coming on here and saying that Danny killed his wife? She died in surgery people! Comments like that should tell everyone exactly what the agenda is for some of these people.

If you simply go to sophiasheart.org, you can see that there are several branches of the foundation:Music and arts program, Sophia L. Gokey Scholarship Fund, Sophia's Heart of Compassion, and SHF Medical Fund. These all help children in need by giving food, shelter, medical relief, clothing, and musical instruments.

All of the charities on Nick's list are deserving of funding. I know that whichever organization receives the money it will be put to good use to help others. Sophia's Heart received my vote because it is in it's infancy and it is inmportant to make sure it succeeds because people depend on organizations like Sophia's choice to make a difference in their lives. Many children who come from a background of abuse, or who live in poverty, or who come from broken families or broken neighborhoods are most often neglected by society. They have little hope for their futures unless someone reaches out to help them to find direction in their lives and to give them hope for a better future. Sophia's Heart does not want these children to fall between the cracks. It may sound cliche, but children are our future. We must do what we can to help all children become productive and caring adults. The people who are on this site denegrating this wonderful foundation are pitiful. Almost none of them can articulate why they voted for a particular charity. The reason for this is because they do not care about the charities on the list. They care only about making sure that Sophia's Heart does not receive the money because they unreasonably hate the man who started the foundation. I don't understand how anyone's heart can be filled with so much hatred that they would use their hate to try to influence the outcome of a charitable effort. Their motivation is not because they care about people with malaria, cancer, tay-sachs, or homelessness. Their motivation is the burning hatred in their hearts for a man who lost a spouse and who's mission in life is to help others overcome tragedies and difficulties in their lives. Regardless of which wonderful organization receives the funding, we must all be thankful to people like Nick Barnett who has expressed his humanity in this unique way of using Twitter to make a difference in peoples' lives. Thank you Nick, and thank you to all of the people who are supporting this effort and are being respectful in their comments.

I voted for the Sophia's Heart charity. I also want to add that just because you vote for one charity doesn't mean you don't care about sick children. That is a really stupid thing to say. I voted for this charity for several reasons, none of which are because Danny Gokey was on American Idol. I share this charities love for children and feel strongly about sharing the gospel with the next generation. If we do not support the next generation and lift them up with positive reinforcement what are we left with? I also feel that due to the fact that this is a new charity it could use all the help it can get.

I am really surprised at all of the hate on this poll commentary. There is no need for all the negativity. Nick is trying to do a good thing and getting people involved in the decision process. Whether you like Danny, his family, or his church is not the issue. Children here in milwaukee and around the states will surely benefit from the amazing passion Danny and His wife have and had for their safety and well being. There are more people involved in SHF than just danny and his church...so the money cannot just be spent at their choosing. Please people do your research and stop the hating. This is a positive thing that should be fun and not hateful. And the hurtful hateful comments about Danny "partying it up" only a few weeks after his wife died are absolutely rediculous. If someone is to lose someone are they to not move for months and months on end. Staying at home depressed is not going to help the situation, nor does it bring the loved one back. But going out and "partying it up" does not mean that they loved them any less. Each heal in there own way. and being surrounded by friends and family can at times help lessen the blow...but it does not take the pain away. So please to not fault him for having a life even after the tragic passing of the biggest part of his life. He is human and we each need to grieve and process situtations in our own time and at our own pace.

All of these are worthy charities. My own vote went to SHF. Just so folks out there know, I work with a foundation that gives grants to non-profit organizations and I have done research into SHF. It is a legitimate 501(c)3 non-profit organization, registered with the IRS. I have not only visited the website but have spoken personally to the Vice President of the organization. They are a newer organization but their dream is big. They plan to start with an after school program in Music and the Arts to try to give children and youth an alternative to other less positive influences; they plan to work with the families of these young people in mentoring, parenting skills, etc. They have established a scholarship fund in Sophia Gokey's name to help low-income children continue their education; they have started a fund to help children of low-income receive medical care, especially for chronic or congenital health issues such as the congenital heart condition that eventually claimed Sophia's life. They are still learning and growing as a non-profit but their goal is pure, and not selfish in any way. So, my research has been done. I hope everyone will choose the charity that speaks to their own heart and mind. No need to bash any of them, especially with blatant untruths. They are all worthy. Thanks for doing this on Twitter, Nick!

Here's the deal, all the charities are deserving. However, most of you are voting for Spphia's Heart Foundation and that's great. But, you're voting in honor of Danny's wife because you love Danny, and that seems pathetic to me. Do you think that will make you his friend?? That foundation is to keep kids on the "right path" and off the streets. I think that is parents' responsibility and not a charity. Keeping kids entertained is not nearly as important as saving a child's life. Think about all the kids that are in the hospital fighting for life, like my nephew, JC, who has cancer. He's a 3 yr old little boy with cancer! He can't go swimming, or play at the park. He gets spinal taps once a week and "hates" his head because he doesn't have hair. Forgive me if I find saving lives a little more important than kids not having somewhere to play. SAVE LIVES and let parents' take care of their kids entertainment!

SHF does not even have a Board of Directors, thousands of dollars have already been invested in it and they have all disappeared into thin air. Danny Gokey has no time to run his foundation and any donation to it is a donation to his church, Faith Builders. This church has a proven history of extorting money from its members and promoting racism.

Despite all the negativity as a result of what was intended to be a kind act by Nick Barnett, I am thankful for the poll as it introduced me to a couple organizations I'd not heard of before (Malaika for Life & curetay-sachs).

While I originally suggested Make a Wish, Habitat for Humanity & SHF be on the list of potential charities because I currently donate to all three and believe in their work, I'm thankful to learn about these other worthy organizations as well. They all have been created with best intentions and though their goals are all quite different in that some are aimed at research, some at acts of kindness to ease ailing children' final days, some are direct community support and others help the beloved furry creatures - in the end, they are all created from a place of hope and caring.

For this particular donation, I chose SHF. Not because I think they are any better than any of the others but because doing a little research led me to believe that the other organizations, have a more established financial foundation right now and this money would be helpful to them but not really have a massive impact whereas SHF is in start-up mode; they are in the process of looking for a building that will be converted into a youth center, are establishing administration & trying to coordinate all new programs. It will take a lot of work and effort and, yes, money, to take on this venture and, like any new organization, it takes people putting action to words to really have it take off.

That's why I believe most people are supporting SHF so fervently...The idea behind it is the purest form of community outreach; right now on a smaller level but with effort, the chance to be so much more than that. Not better than any of the others; just new and needing that little extra boost.

In fact, it would be great to see some of these organizations partner up to help eachother - it truly doesn't have to be a competition. It's all for the good...

Sophia's Heart is brand new and the $10K donated here can make a huge difference to them and the kids they hope to serve in Milwaukee. $10K to Sophia's Heart right now is critical. $10K to a more established charity may not make as big an impact. All of the charities listed are great charities. Sophia's Heart is a new charity - so of course it doesn't have a lot of research out there behind it. All charities need to start somewhere and I believe Sophia's Heart is going to do great and wonderful things for our kids. I want to thank Nick Barnett for his continued support and for putting this money out there. We know in Wisconsin that Danny's heart in generous just as Sophia's was. There is no need for the Hatred and fighting about this. Just vote for what you believe is the best choice - not what might hurt another charity. I support Sophia's Heart and I know that if my own children were ever adversely affected by our economy or struggle through hard times that Sophia's Heart would be there and that's a great feeling!

My question is this. Why would Nick go to Danny and ask for 10k followers to follow him for 10k in charity it he wanted to give it to any other charity? He went to Danny Gokey who is running a foundation. Did he think any of those fans would vote for any other worthy charity? Did he notify any of the other charities of his offer? If Nick's intention was anything else he would have e-mailed these other charities to follow him for charity as well. If the 10k was intended for Danny Gokey he should have left it at that and said so much. Mostly it seems like it was a plan between the two of them from the beginning.

Danny has been running this "charity" for about a year now (ever since he found out he would be on national television to advertise it) so can someone show me evidence of ONE THING this charity has done in nearly a year's time? The mission statement is so vague it seems like a parody site. "offering restoration in various areas of childrens lives ages 0-18". Are you kidding me? What does that even mean? And why does this "charity" have the same address as Danny Gokey's shady church?

You guys - come on. Just because SHF is new doesn't mean it's fake! Those of you that say it is are just following rumors and gossip. That won't get you anywhere in life, people. It's REAL. The only testimonials on SHF website are about christmas presents, and helping a family with housing as Danny Gokey emerged and his angel in heaven, Sophia, who offered to help.

When I saw this poll I e-mailed tay-sachs and informed them of the poll which I am sure they did not know about. I asked them to pass along the info and gave them a link to the poll. I am sure it was good news to them and affected families and in no time the poll showed an overwhelming support for this cause. I guess it was supposed to be between Nick, Danny, and his fans and to make others seem it was not prejudiced a poll was created and no one thought anyone would know or vote for the others. It was Danny fans who first suggested that SHF be one of the charities nominated for this, not Danny or Nick who suggested that. Nick asked for more charities, to be nominated, after some of Danny's fans nominated SHF.

Nick asked the people to vote for the charity they want to get the money. And the people are voting, most of them happen to be Danny Gokey fans who believe that SHF is a worthwhile cause.

You Danny haters have no business huffing and puffing about this. Danny Gokey fans are the ones that helped Nick reach his goal of 10,000 followers the most. Danny Gokey fans are the ones that told people to follow Nick for a worthwhile cause. Danny Gokey fans are the ones that are willing to match Nick with a $1 donation for charity.

Not the vast majority of you Danny Gokey haters. Most of you guys wouldn't have even known about this if it weren't for Danny, so how dare you come up in here acting indignant and offended when you see that SHF, is leading in the poll, because Danny Gokey fans are the ones that helped get Nick the 10,000 followers. Also, I believe that Danny has a lot of fans voting for him only once. Most of people that started following Nick after he decided to do this are Danny Gokey fans. So it makes sense that they would vote for SHF, because they believe it is a worthwhile foundation.

I voted for Sophia's Heart. Not because I am such a huge fan of Danny Gokey. I like him, but I am an Adam fan all the way! :-) I voted for SHF because I believe in what it stands for. I am a music teacher and have seen so many children who could benefit from music not be able to take it because they come from families who simply cannot pay the fees to keep an instrument. Believe it or not music is an important part of a child's life and not just to learn the music, it is a therapy as well. Also, SHF is going to save lives as well. I don't know where some of you get off by saying that you are taking money away from dying children, in my opinion not voting for SHF is taking away money from dying children as well. I mean it is going to help children in need in so many ways. All of the charities listed are worthwhile charities but many of them only help a specific cause. SHF is going to be helping children who are sick, with ANY illness, if they need help, they will be helped. As far as Danny not knowing how to run a charity. If I remember correctly there was a certain AI alum who started a charity based on a project he had to do to complete college. It wasn't even a real charity, just a paper he had to write. The fans started giving money to this charity so he started it and it is a huge success that has helped alot of handicapped children lead the life that they so deserve to live. The National Autism Project was started out of love for children and mankind just as Sophia's Heart has been started. Say what you want to say about Danny Gokey, but I ask of you PLEASE don't do it on here! This is not a forum about Danny or AI!!! This is for charity. If you believe that your charity deserves the money more then I encourage you to explain why you believe so. But, if you are going to attack the founder of a charity to discredit the charity then you need to be attacking the founders of all the other charities that you didn't vote for to discredit those as well. Leave personal opinions aside and think of the children and the work to be done! I find all of this very childish and I can't believe grown people would act in such a way!

After doing some research, it is my professional opinion as a social worker that Sophia's Heart duplicates services that are provided by your tax dollars. It is my job to do the things this NON-501(c)3 organization does. So, reality TV fans, don't complain when your taxes go up, because remember, you willingly give to organizations that provide exactly the same social programming as the government.

My thoughts and prayers are with the noble, time-honored organizations that will be losing out on a generous gift so that reality TV fans can ingratiate themselves to a TV personality.

As a member of the CTSF, no, we were not informed of this poll. We were not even sure if it was legit, but someone else in the CTSF family follows Nick and urged him to include us. We have no idea if he is doing some sort of walk, run, or what. I do not know when this poll ends. The families of Tay-Sachs children are a pretty tight bunch and once this was discovered we spread the work. American Express did a similar thing a few years ago and our small charity actually made it to the top 15. We are small but mighty. All of these charities are excellent. In fact, many Tay-Sachs children have been blessed through Make-A-Wish, who is also in the running. No matter what the outcome, or people's reason for voting, we hope the money is put to good use. At the very least, we brought our cause to the attention of some people who may not have been aware of the disease. We assure you all, if the money is given to Curetay-sachs.org, it will be used for research currently being conducted for a cure or treatment. It is a shame there are so many negative comments on here. God Bless.

Cure Tay Sachs Foundation!!! Our child passed away 3 days before her 2nd birthday, we need a cure....

So many worthy causes and so many people needing help.
St. Judes treated my little 5 year old cuz for medulloblastoma, a rare and fatal disease, that strikes mercilessly with a less than 14% survival rate and even smaller complete recovery rate. He's been in remission for a couple years now since they removed and treated the second tumor.

Humane Societies, I got my last 3 cats there. They do worthy work too.

But foremost in my list is Habitat for Humanity. I contribute to them each year in their May fixer-upper when men and women from our local Trade Unions descend on several houses and fix them up for old and disabled citizens. They help so many people and make such good use of the money all year round, it's hard to NOT say they are the ones I feel deserve money in a big way.

I was pumping this thing on scout.com, which won the Campbells Soup Click for Cans charity drive - literally, scout.com's PackerReport forum amassed over 175,000 clicks in just 2 days, thanks to me and a few others urging members to get involved - and still, Nick was nowhere NEAR getting those 10,000 followers. Even our massive efforts could only click one time, and I'm sure we added a few hundreds, but 10,000 is a BIG number.
If Danny or whomever he is got up enough people to put this over the top, who the HELL are you people to complain. At least SOMEONE is getting a charitable donation, and in the end THAT is what counts - not how YOU personally feel slighted by the fact it wasn't YOUR favorite choice.

Is this even legit? When does this poll end? Charities unaware? Can we be sure the winner will actually receive the 10k? Friends with Danny Gokey, the owner/ruler/king of SHF? Something's fishy in here and I don't think it's just the Gokey Cult.

I voted SHF, I have worked alot with troubled teens and I have seen first hand how foundations like this one can really effect and change peoples lives.

Why are people spamming this poll with who they voted for? It makes it hard to read comments about the charities. 10k would make such a huge impact for the Say Tach foundation, Right now children afflicted w/this disorder can only be made as comfortable as possible while they slowly and progressively face death. There are no treatments that reverse the disease or a cure. Money as this would make a HUGE impact on the research for treatments and a cure. It seems very hopeful that a cure is in reach, but funds are desperately needed for the research and developement. Please consider voting for this cause! I voted for Sophia's Heart Foundation early on in this poll because I, like Sophia Gokey, was born with a heart condition. Fortunately, my parents had enough resources for me to have the heart surgery that saved my life. How many children out there with congenital heart conditions will not have the same chance to live? Danny Gokey would like to give as many of these children that same chance that I had, and if this one way that I can help him do it, I am proud to do so. I know what it's like to live with a heart condition, and I have the greatest respect and admiration for Danny Gokey and his mission to give children with heart problems -- and other challenging issues, medical or otherwise -- a chance for a better life, in honor of the memory of the wife he loves, and out of his own goodness of heart. We should all do our best to support someone who wants to make a positive difference in this world.

To answer the question why people are spamming the poll.... because Danny Gokey twittered and told them to. He got upset when he saw TS was ahead of him, said something is fishy here because he was basically guaranteed the win, so he alerted his fanbase to spam the vote and spam the poll.

Funnies thing of all, it seems these other charities aren't even aware this poll is going on, nobody told them. If Gokey and his fanbase wants to win by spamming, so be it. If Nick doesn't even tell these groups they are up in this poll and gives them the same opportunity to promote their charities, its says a ton about what this poll is about. Which basically is Nick paying Gokey back for getting him followers. If not, then explain why all these other charities which are legit, aren't even aware this was going on.

Research how the renowned paster of Faithbuilders wears Rolex watches, and drives an Escalade that his congregation paid for, because you know, to do God's work you have to drive a flashy car. Find out how the pastor's wife makes her money from the church too, by selling shitty costume jewelry (and making any woman who DOESN'T wear/buy it feel like they're not really part of the flock), and she makes video tapes on "how to be a Playmate for your husband" (wonder how Hef would like that use of a copyrighted term)

All of the charities are for worthy causes. The others aside from SHF are well established and have their own fundraising channels.

And, since the other charities have been exploited like this, Im going to go donate 10 dollars to everyone listed on here except SHF. Mostly because I dont agree with what is going on here, nor the way their charities are being put up and exposed to this kind of negative activity.

I advise those who want other charities to get donations, to just go ahead and donate to them yourselves. It is obvious this is a set up for SHG and has been since the get go I for one am done here and am going to go donate to those who really need it.

It saddens me that people are so jealous that they would put a person down for trying to do something in honor of a spouse. But then some will complain

Unfortunately, not every single person can contribute to every single charity, so when wanting to give, a person chooses the issue closest to their heart.
