The F15 and F16 are good fighters but the airframes lack stealth and over all airframe design for modern air combat manuvering. I loove the f15E in particular and it's a fantastic design and as well the f16,! But the airframes are getting old and worn out if you were too re-tool too incorporate such features. The costs would be equivalent to the f22 raptors price tag. In closing support the raptor it's tech will give the other guys in the world something too consider before threatening the good ole US of A.

The f-22 looks like a great plane, and has been called a world beater. I understand that there are some problems with the plane. Besides when it comes to weapons of war, it usually comes down to jobs, in some congressmen's state. Perhpas there can be some sort of fly off between all these new fighters....the Raptor, Typhoon, SU-27,28,29,30 and the list goes on. UAVs seem the new thing, and if the F-22 can pull 15Gs then perhaps the pilot needs in an office controlling it remotely; then the plane could perform at it's maximum.

I believe that we dont really need the F 22 when we have the F 18 Super Hornet. The F 22 is also dangerous ... I spoke with a USAF recruiter and he said that the F 22 can reach up to 15 Gs. The maximum a human can take is 10 Gs tops. Besides the F 18 is already proven to be a very effective weapon.
If you dont believe me ask a marine or navy pilot.

    Hooah!

    Jerry,

You have to realize that this debate probably raged when we were creating the F-16 and F-15 about it's predecessor's. You can only upgrade current generation fightes so much. The F-16 and F-15 will never have the stealth capability of the F-22. Not to mention the aerodynamics of the F-22 make it much more effient in flight. Every aspect of this fighter is an improvement. Sure, some of the technology of the F-22 would improve older fighters, but they will never be able to compete on the same level.

My theory in war is you don't bring just what you need to win, you bring everything you can to squash the enemy as quickly and decisively as possible. Not to mention, to keep the peace you have to maintain a force so vastly superior to your enemy that they clearly understand attacking us is not an option. The F-22 ensures that our enemy will always have to question the abilities of their own air power eventually realizing that any conventional attack is useless.

Well, instead of pumping billions and billions and dollars in designing a new and less capable plane (the F-35), the US should work with a more 'Russian' attitude towards planes and use the F-22 frame as a base frame and update the hardware inside with contemporary hardware. Much along the lines as the Russians are doing with their Flanker design. It's a cheaper way to get to a very capable fighter platform, just improve on what you have instead of spending decades and billions on projects that are already almost obsolete when they're finally fielded after decades of R&D... The US's turnaround time from concept to production to 'active duty' is becoming easily 15-20 years per project and by the time something is fielded, the economic, diplomatic and military situations have changed so drastically that most projects get cut before even getting into production and even if they get into production, the actual numbers will almost always be reduced by bickering politicians...
And at the same time, every other country in the world is silently rubbing their hands as the US pumps unreal amounts of funds into R&D that they pioneer and field in limited numbers, after which most technologically capable countries with a military mind set start copying and reverse engineering the tech for their own use, or they're developing relatively low cost countermeasures for any technology developed by the US.

In short, adapt and fine-tune what you have instead of spending billions on unproven technology and wishful concepts, only to find out that what you have at the moment does what you wanted/needed all along... (FCSAbrams, F35F22 etc etc...)

We should see into upgrading the F15 and F16 with the technology we have on the F22 and F35, and build more F15 and F16. I would dare say that there is no aircraft out there that can hold its own with either of these aircrafts that had been tested in battle, and ALWAYS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! came out on top. Why waste all these millions on a NONE!!!!!!!!! proven aircraft? Re-engine the F15 with the F22 engines and electronics and possibly its skin. Do the same with the F16 and the technology of the F35. I believe we would get a less expensive aircraft, that can do the same job or better.
