The State of California is currently issuing I.O.U.s to its citizens for their 2008 tax refunds. Money that citizens overpaid to the State for income taxes. Money that the State of California had use of for a year, but cannot refund, nor will the State pay interest on those funds the State was allowed to use. The State of California is currently issuing I.O.U.s to college students who have applied for grants that were accepted to continue their education, but now the colleges will have to wait for grant payment. The State of California is currently issuing I.O.U.s to pay it's invoices to continue operating. There is no guarantee that these I.O.U.s will be accepted by any bank to be converted into cash.
I CANNOT BELIEVE THAT THE STATE OF CALIFORNIA, THE COUNTY AND CITY OF LOS ANGELES WILL ALLOW AN EXPENSE OF THIS AMOUNT TO BE SPENT ON A MEMORIAL SERVICE THAT ALL OF THE CITIZENS OF CALIFORNIA WILL HAVE TO PAY. I AM APPALLED HOW YOU WOULD ALLOW THIS EXPENSE TO BE PUT ON CITIZENS WHEN MR. JACKSON'S ESTATE IS WORTH MILLIONS. HOW DO YOU EXPECT US TO PAY ADDITIONAL COSTS WHEN YOU HAVEN'T EVEN PAID OUR BILLS?
PLEASE GOVERNOR, STEP IN AND STOP MORE OF THE MONEY I DON'T HAVE TO BUY GROCERIES AND PAY BILLS TO BE USED FOR AN EVENT THAT THE JACKSON FAMILY COULD PAY FOR.
I'd rather buy groceries than pay for Michael Jackson's memorial. Love you Michael, but I have to feed my family first.
I know it was costly to have the police there to keep everything peaceful, and I, as a taxpayer, know our country is struggling to make ends meet, however, that is what the police are paid to do...keep order and peace for everyone! I think they went a little overboard on how many police they had there, and as it turned out, (thankfully) they didn't even need to keep the peace as everything and everyone was peaceful. I think the city should pay for it, as it is their job. I mean, (as an analogy) if there was a big strike or political protest going on, should we charge the people and/or their families doing the protest/strike for the police being there to keep the peace wheather or not an incident were to happen? Ludicrous! If the Jackson family didn't want to pay to have the police there, and something did happen would it be the their fault or the city's fault? Police are here to keep the peace, and with a huge crowd gathering like it did, it is better to be safe then sorry later. Oh, and btw, Michael Jackson was a taxpayer too and deserves everything that every taxpayer is due regardless of our ability to pay. (oh, btw, i'm a poor taxpayer so I can understand the "struggling to make ends meet" motto that so many in our country is facing.)
