Hope you folks here get to have the snowtubing facility open up. We have run one here in Hudson, Wi (25 miles east of St. Paul, Minn) for forty years. We began as a family farm and evolved into Badlands sno-park, a third generation family operation.
We offer sno-tubing and would have to say to any naysayers that in the winter you can't really hear the kids screaming (in the over insulated tightly built houses these days), but mostly laughing, and if you can hear it, enjoy it! In regard to the snowmaking equipment, I live 1/8 miles away from the slopes and at night all you can hear is a low low humm, but when a plane goes over(we are on a major incoming flight path to MSP airport) the plane will override any snowmaker noise. (depends if you get stick or air pressure snowmakers)
Our facility isn't fancy, but some realtors in the area tout our business as a great addition to the kid friendly town we are in.
Traffic is a steady, not constant stream, not anything to get to worked up about, it is just a short time frame they'd be open, and it only looks like weekends.
As for the tubing itself-my 79 yer old mother still makes a few runs every year, as each new grandchild comes she takes them for their first ride. The great thing about tubing is the WHOLE family can go out and AFFORD to enjoy a day together, not one on the bunny slope, one on a video game, one on the expert hill, but TOGETHER as A FAMILY. With just a short introduction lesson, you can get out and enjoy winter TOGETHER. And you meet so many people just standing in line, or taking a break in the chalet, it is kind of a neighborhood hangout in the winter. Some older/less agile folks will stop in and just have a cup and watch the action.
Zoning can easily be created as a special exception with a review after a year for suggested changes or a chance for the locals to bring forth any concerns. When we added snowboarding, that is what we did, after a year not ONE person has a problem with it, in fact no one one on the board could come up with any negatives either. With all the snow I hear you folks get out there its a natural fit to add to a garden area. We have a fall pumpkin patch and you attact the same type folks, nice, friendly and looking for some good clean family fun. STAY LOCAL-SHOP LOCAL-SNOWTUBE LOCAL!
Blizzard Ridge says it all!
Godo luck, Maggie
ps I am in no way related to these folks just stumbled across it on the google
As a resident of the Town of Rush NY, I am a huge supporter of this venue. Living in a suburb of Rochester that has absolutely zero to offer its families, it will be wonderful to be able to visit Country Way and Blizzard Ridge with our Kids. We have purchased a fair amount of nursery goods over the years from these folks, and are ALWAYS treated with warmth and enthusiasm. I can only imagine if allowed, just what a wonderful addition this will be to the whole Town of Penfield during those long winter months.
Please except this comment as a formal indication of support from our entire family. Many Blessings for your future.
I am so tired of people talking about noise, lights, traffic this is the world we live in.
Traffic is coming rather if you like it or not.
The guy who talks about living next to swain mountain. Why does it bother you to hear a few screams from children having fun. "Your not sitting next to them on a plane". You have to be one of those people that complains about to much rain or not enough sun or kids playing video games to much. Have you ever hade kids? Kids need things to do. Familes need things to do with each other (Its called bonding time which familes need more then anything) not everyone likes hike or go for a walk in the park or cross country skiing. The more choices we have as a community the less crime their will be We complain about lights come on people. My neighbor has a big bright light that comes on every time someone comes home. ( I deal with it) Neighbors are not always going to do what you want. They need to feel like they have their own choices to.
Having another business in the community does not effect the liablity to the schools. A winter rec park with tubing is something this town needs!
This park is not going to be like a concert where the cars are lined up to get in. Its not going to be open all night from my understanding.
The neighbors who think your land value is going to go down. Thats not really true either so don't implant that thought into peoples heads until you have all the facts in place. I think if you take a town vote "not a neighbor vote" a community vote because we are all in this town together same thing could happen to me and thats the country we live in, be happy! The vote would be a landslide 9 to 1 for. One percent of the people out their just like to complain and think the world they live in is only for them.
One last thing i hope they do another town hall meeting. This is to good to pass up for familes.
