teachers were given a 3% raise... so the cut is actually 7% in reality.
It is my understanding that the town side is only absorbing $750K of the 1.5 Million this year and the full amount next year and going forward the full amount. What about all of the years which the school side had to pay for the town side?? No past compensation and not full accounted for properly this year. Where are the town's priorites. A 10% pay cut, which may just be a formality and not a reality, if real is not the right priority for the town. The needs to prioritize
safety- fire and police and some maintenance
education
Water is not on this list as this is a self funded program with the users dollars.
All other areas, senior center(needs to be self funded with users fees), youth center(needs to be self funded), library(sorry I love to read but...) should be downsized before safety and education.
This 10% cut and re-hire will cost the town more in lawyers fees. No I am not a teacher but have 3 in the school system.
Breaking a union contract is illegal. While this school committee may be able to claim they can look at this difficult scenario dispassionately, it's because, save probably only one, they don't have children in the system and don't really care. And the one with children still in the system should be ashamed of himself. They are all liars and hypocrites and I won't vote for a single one of them again.
Absolutely absurd to fire & re-hire at a 10% pay cut. What other department in the town has ever had degrading offer?
No one is even speaking about a bus fee. No one is speaking about an energy and utilities audit in order to control costs.
And the Town Hall CLOSED to the public on Fridays to make the work 'more efficient'??? Sorry, this makes no sense!
Education is the most fundamental investment any society can make. To all the Town "officials" I say, 'Find another way' The students (and families) of this town deserve MORE, not less.
