You get what you pay for. If you buy a cheap printer you will pay more for ink.
For all you HP lovers out there, there are a few good HP printers to be sure, but the low end printers now use low capacity cartridges that have to changed over and over again! For instance the black HP 21 cartridge has only 5 mls of ink while the color HP 22 cartridge has just 2 mls per chamber! Finally, all HP cartridges use an embedded chip that is easily destroyed by static discharge.
