Should the city of Birmingham have approved another $250,000 for this year's City Stages event?

I don't think City Stages should have waited until the last minute to ask for money, City Stages should have known in advance if they would need more money, so the city council should make them pay this amount back, not just give it to them.

One of the major purposes of City Stages is to attract people to our city, so as to bring in additional revenue to benefit our city. Because this has not happened, it is counter productive to over-fund this effort year after year. The featured astists are overpaid and local talent is underpaid and often times overlooked as part of the major attraction. Making changes in the management structure is certainly worth considering at this point.
We should not continue to pour money into this unproductive effort.

I think it is ridiculous to spend this kind of money when people are losing jobs and the economy is on a downward slope. Most people attending do not spend the night in hotels as they are mostly locals. It's time to "let it go" and cut your losses.
