I do strongly beleive that people 65 years or older should have to re-take a driving test to see if they are still able to drive safely. Police would pull someone over for speeding as well as driving to slow right? Here you have elderly who clearly make it unsafe as we have heard on the news numerous occassions how an elderly person ran into something and I see elderly people all the time driving to cautiously which makes it unsafe for other drivers as well.

65 and over?? no way people 65 are not considered OLD. We are still working full time and living active lifstyles. If you have a few offenses maybe but come on 65 is the new 50.

Just this afternoon we watched a little white haired old lady drive in reverse down an enbankment, spin around, heading into oncoming traffic and drove away over the curb without missing a beat. Yeah.....time to test again!

I think anyone over 75yrs. old shoulc have to have their License re-newed

every 6-month's , and get a discount on the price of getting a license.

Alot of the elderly think they can drive, but that is the same thing people who are impaired say.

It is for not only Their Safety , but the rest of us out on the road w/them.

I hate to tell you, but the worst drivers out there are not the elderly but the idiots who are talking on their cellphones, text messageing, or tuning their radio dial while driving with five other teenagers!
At least the elderly pay attention while driving and do not tailgate two feet from your back bumper!
Get real, many "OLDER" citizens are much safer than the rest of you "F$^%#*&g" IDIOTS!!!!!!!!!

First, let's have a study of all accidents in the state, during the past 5 or 10 years, and list ages of everyone who caused an accident. Older drivers are very rarely involved in DUI accidents, sppeding or darting in and out accidents, etc. How many accidents have been caused by seniors evading police chases, etc.? Give me a break!
Also, let's stop announcing "an elderly driver..." and then ststing ages like 62 or 63. Let's have all ages announce, or no ages announced. Many elderly drivers are more careful, and many fewer are involved in accidents, as evidenced by recent AARP study. Let's check driving ability of everyone who causes a serious accident. Sadly, many, many children are killed, either because they dart out into traffic, because they are texting, listening to MP3 players, expecting drivers to stop, etc. Many times drivers do not see these sudden movements in time, are affected by lighting, wet road or snow conditions, etc. Was it terribly responsible to allow a seven-year-old to ride a scooter across a busy street? It's only when the driver is a teenager or a senior that all of this chaos begins all over again. Most seniors are upstanding citizens who have the common sense to drive carefully. Let's keep track of all ages, first, and get a better handle on this.
A note to all of the younger people who think 60 year olds are totally useless and incompetent: you're going to be here much sooner that you think and do you want government questioning your competence every time you either make a mistake or have someone else makes a mistake and ends up involving you?

I firmly believe a driving test is necessary for the elderly. Many people are obtaining a card from their eye doctor to avoid taking the eye test at the DMV. Koch Eye Associates issued my 87 year old father a card and he obtained his license. Couple of weeks later he took a seizure in his parked car. He was diagnosed with eye and brain cancer. I called Koch for his medical records and was told he had "underlying conditions". Luckily dad was not able to start the vehicle. He could have killed himself or others.

stop blamming the elderly all you gotta do ban cell phone use and enforce it too plus a $5000.00 fine if caught, there more dangerous than a 120 year old drive

I was in emergency services and I remember one incident that we responded to involving a elderly lady in her 70's. It seemed that she was traveling down a street and for whatever reason took out 5 parked autos on the side of the street. While we were tending to her she kept maintaining that she did not need glasses because her and her friend were going to the registry to renew her license and her friend had told her the answers to the EYE Exam from the day before.
