I don't think he should serve or anyone else who has a problem and needs to go into a rehab program.

Okay the key word is "recovery"... I think the key word should be "addiction" and my vote would have been a different one. Duh...

I can't even believe Turn to 10 is asking this! It's deplorable. What if he had diabetes or heart disease? Isn't alcoholism a disease? Shame on you WJAR. He should be treated with the same dignity and respect.

People who live in glass houses should not throw stones like Bob in Cumberland. He probably has skeletons in his closet too . People are always ready to condemn people with money, because they are jealous of what they have. People need to live there own lives and care for each other not comment on every thing someone rich does. Bob learn to love people for who they are and not what you think they should be. Take a look in the mirror and judge yourself before anyone else.

I commend Rep. Kennedy for having the courage to be so honest about his recovery. He sets an example for us all. "Recovery" means just that. This is a democracy and alcoholism is a disease, just like any disease that requires constant vigilance. If voters are not happy, they have the right to vote Patrick out. Patrick's illness would not prevent me from voting for him again.

He's done too much for this state. He is very courageous to admit
this. People who condemn him better look in the mirror.

No I don't believe the Congressman is not fit to serve his constituents. How absurd! He has an illness, if he had heart disease or diabetes or any form of arthritis or any other debilitating disease should he hang it up and not be allowed to be in politics. This can be a very hot topic. This is discrimination! Hey, life is differcult for alot of people with problems. Give him support for being open about his disease and for heavens sake pray for his recovery!

Of course he shouldn't serve. He is affected by this day in and day out. I have seen first hand someone try to recover from alcohol and prescription drug addiction. They can't function like a person who is sober and they have a terrible time dealing with everyday life not to mention the depression. I give Senator Kennedy a lot of credit for getting help but he is not capable of doing his job.

Only in Rhode Island can an addicted politician from the land of Camelot pull the wool over the single-lever voters' eyes! My greatest ambition is to leave this poor-excuse for a state!

I agree with Marie. It would be interesting to tally what he has done for the state in the past few years. He does not seem to make any impact with legislation/bills, nor is he visible on any prominent committees. Mental Health seems to be his prominent undertaking. Have not seen him on CNN or CSPAN at all. I fully support Mental Health Legislation, but we need a Congressman who can function fully as our representative in Washington. The people of RI need to consider other factors other than the Kennedy name when voting.

I also have to say, what has he done for the citzens. My strongest thought is he can keep finding a way to give away our tax dollars. I am not sure but he is probably working on legislation to use tax money to treat his disease.

70% say he can still do his job, and we wonder why RI is in such a mess. Voters continue to vote for the same politicians who have done nothing to help fix this state.
