wow, i think everyone has taken this way to serious. 50% of the same musicians play at both klatsch and xrs, 50% of the time. i think the huntsville times is totally making a mess out of this. give it a break, we all love good music. if the staff takes care of you, nothing can go wrong and everything sounds great!! one might want to take advantage of the local taxi service.

Funny how if you know a person pretty well, then you can discern their true identity, even when they use a moniker such as 'a real music fan' - know what I mean Goltz?

Dmac well said. North Alabama is lucky to have both of those places plus a few more that weren't even mentioned to be voted on. Let the music play on !
Herbie - 15 years ago
Sorry, Tod, you did mention The Wailers and Bobby Blue Bland...
Also at the XR: That 1 Guy, Particle, Buckethead, Screamin' Cheetah Wheelies, Rod Piazza and the Mighty Flyers, and on and on and on.
Herbie - 15 years ago
Dang Tod, I think the only ones you left out are The Wailers, Bobby Blue Bland, and Edwin McCain! ;-)
I have enjoyed acts at the XR and the Klatsch - the only two venues worth a damn in Huntsville. I voted for the XR...

I dont know about the rest of you folks out there but I like a little spice and variety in my musical menu and although the klatch has great local fair, The Crossroads pulls its musical ingredients locally and from all over the musical landscape.
Oh yeah, don't forget David Rawlins, Particle,Nappy Roots, Ginuwine, Robert Earl Keene, Drive By Truckers, Marcy Playground, Charlie Howell with Tara Nevins, Shametown,Against Me, Tom Cremins, Microwave Dave Five oclock Charlie,Danny Hall the list goes on...
The Crossroads
what a musical cornuccopia...

Hi all.....I also wanted to point out the fact that...The Crossroads has always directed alot of the perfomers that play here, to please go down and visit The Klatch, in hopes of providing them with some of the bigger names that just happen to walk into there venue. I know that they get some great players that go in there from time to time...but the alot of the times, it is because we want the people of Huntsville, who might not be able to make a show..have the opportunity to see them in The Klatch during the early evening. Most of us have little brothers, or sisters that we want to help along...and sometimes they tend to act bigger than there britches through the process of it all. sometimes you have to show them some tough love...cut them off...and sometimes they realize that there actions were immature, as well as frugile when it comes to the bigger picture. There is always a lesson to be learned. Some people tend to make blunders because they just want a small piece of the pie...and forget that the pie has many pieces...

Hi all...I am not one to normally get into discussion about something that is already obvious. However, it seems like there has been alot of discussion about the current poll at hand. I know what we have, and what everyone else has to offer. I have my opinion, and other people have there`s. The one thing that i cannot understand, is why this has gotten to be such a huge dilema? I just wish that the votes being cast were legitimate ones, and not someones attempt to turn this into a joke! #1-It is obvious that the klatch does not even have the customer base, to equal the votes they have supposedly gotten. #2- I think that it is embarrasing, and shows the lack of integrity the klatch has by supporting such an obvious thing. #3- If the klatch really believes they have a better `venue` for live music...better than............................
The Crossroads...Humphrey`s...Sammy T`s...Leann`s....or any other venue listed, and not listed...Then why in the world would they feel the need to delete cookie trackers, and pad the
votes? Let the people`s vote`s count!! Let the people who come to our venue`s have there voice heard!! I have voted 1 time, and i voted for The Crossroads. I dont need to sit at a computer for hours, deleting cookie trackers, and casting several hundred votes to know who, and who doesn`t have a better `Venue` to see live music. If a venue wants to do that, then they can carry the burden of knowing that they cheated the system, and the people who honestly tried to make there vote count. Kharma comes in all shapes, sizes, forms, etc. I am begining to think that someone has the `Little man complex`! I know if we didn`t have a dog in the race, we wouldn`t be trying to hurt our friends that did. Good luck to all Venue`s, and hopefully everyone can let the patrons of these establishments let there vote count! Peace to you all!

Carole, are you saying smaller is better?Last time I checked Crossroads has a 360 degree view of the stage, and smoke 'em if you got 'em never been denied a smoke At XR ...
carole - 15 years ago
Are you guys saying big is better? I'm old; I prefer a small music room. thers must also. Hell, at the kaffeeklach half of the room feels like it's backstage. And, I can smoke!

A real music fan - 15 years ago
Music fan, give it a rest! This is a vote for "BEST" music venue. Not best small and large music venue. Quick name the 5 most popular acts that have played at both places in the past year. And since you like both places, seems that you are aware of the artists that have played both. See the difference? If you are a TRUE music fan, then even you, would see that there is not contest. Seriously, a room that holds 50 people vs a room that holds over 500????? And as far as the voting goes, seems like someone has hacked into the system to make this a tight race. So "Music Fan" I'm guessing since you sit on the middle of the fence.......well.....................

The Kaffeeklatsch and the Crossroads are the Two best venues for music in North Alabama, one being a smaller venue (Kaffeeklatsch), the other being a larger venue (Crossroads). While opposite each other, they both are the best in their category.
Skunky-T's really does stink. Young and Underage drinkers, sticky floors due to all the drink spilling and loud, ear piercing music and crowds pushing all make this place a disaster to visit. If your 18 to 24, you probably love this dive.

Although Kaffee Klatsch has its moments and can be a fun place to go it is certainly not comprable to the Crossroads. The Crossroads is the perfect live music venue with its large dance floor, super ecoustics, and great stage.
Brian - 15 years ago
I agree with Eric about Skanky T's. It's a nasty, over crowded, meat market. Takes absolutely forever to get a drink just to have it spilled on you by some underaged drinker.
I'm sure Sammy could afford a bigger venue.
I vote Crossroads 110%. Clean, great staff, great security, spacious, and doesn't take an hour to get a drink. Every single weekend has at least one big band. I have seen amazing shows there such as Shooter Jennings, The Wailers, Corey Smith, Course of Nature, Zac Brown, Avett Brothers, Days of the New, Cross Canadian Ragweed, REHAB, Afroman, Reverend Horton Heat (coming up)....the list continues forever. These are shows that would sell plenty of tickets at the VBC but you have front row seats at XR.

Fuck Sammy T's. Rock bands play there, yet they still play shitty booty music on the P.A. That combined with their douchebag security guards.

I think the Kaffeeklatsch at night is the best music venue in Huntsville imho because it has that great small room feel so listerners can get up close and personal with their favorite musician/songwriter. Artists such as Townes Van Zant, Johnny Shines, Various blues artists and great local bands have all played there. Even 3 musicians from the Rolling Stones has unexpectedly shown up as well ask members from Lynyrd Skynyrd. You simply never know who will walk through the door and stop in especially during big springs jam. Great small rooom venue.
