Breed specific legislation will not fix the problem. The owner of ANY aggressive dog- ANY breed- should be held accountable for their failure to control their dog. Please do not punish the responsible owners and even tempered dogs- no matter WHAT breed they are.

I agree with Kimberly. Banning a whole breed punishes good owners and innocent animals. It has been proven much more effective to hold people accountable for their dogs actions, regardless of breed.

Why a Pit Bull type dog always a target. What is needed everywhere is a law that protects the general public from ANY dangerous dog, period.

Responsible dog ownership is the key to less dog bites. I believe that any dog type owner should be able to obtain a temperment test, showing their dog has been well trained, and socialized. Quit with the targets on specific types of dogs, ALL dogs can bite. Focus on strict laws against dog fighting, and irresponsible dog owners of all breeds.
This is only commons sense is it not?

There is already a proposed change in MGL chapter 140 (the main dog law in MA) that adresses dangerous dog laws, as well as many, many other long overdue changes, corrections and improvements. It includes training and education for Animal Control Officers.

This change was created by a committee made up of people from the major dog related groups, both state and private such as: Animal Rescue League of Boston, MSPCAm, Animal Control Officers Association of MA, Mass Federation of Dog Clubs and Responsible Dog Owners and more.

This needs support!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The current tide against Pitbulls is the result of bias sensationalized irresponsible journalism. Recently in the State of Michigan a man was mauled to death by three dogs. The headline read: "Local man found dead in trailer". The smaller bi-line read: "mauled to death by three dogs". Instantly I knew the dogs were not PitBulls. Had it been Pitbulls the story would have appeared on the front page and the headline would have read: "Pitbulls Kill Local Man". Then the article would have focused on Pitbulls and how they account for a large percent of maulings. There would be no mention of the fact that they are the most popular breed in the history of the United States. That they out number every other breed by far and as such, of course they are going to account for more. Never do they mention that they are proven time and again to be one of the best tempered dog.
