Which racing sim will be the best? (Poll Closed)

I've been a Gran Turismo fan since GT3 and didn't take to the Forza franchise right off the bat. I remember trying the Forza 2 demo and walking away bored. What bored my about the Forza 2 demo was the lack of shiny cars and it's dead looking demo track. But after giving Forza 2 a closer look (I bought the full game months later because of the many favorable reviews), I really started (and still do) appreciate what they have to offer.

Forza Motorsport 3 appears to have finally put the layers of polish it needs on the cars, tracks and menus to stand up to and possibly surpass up coming Gran Turismo 5.

My the best and most fun overall experience win!

@Andrew: I actually didn't like Forza because of their 'shiny' cars. What I mean is, Forza can't seem to separate the difference between the shiny hood and how the headlight shines. Sometimes, it all blends and looks off. Furthermore, some cars in Forza looked half-assed. Some cars looks like someone used the 'paint-bucket' to redden the tail-lights, whereas some cars looks spectacular. It's not a good idea to render a car so badly when you have really nice cars in your game. It just makes it the more obvious.
The cars in Gran Turismo are more consistent, and I believe that overall, GT captures the essence of automobile racing a lot better.

Gran Tourismo has, and always will be way more than graphics, the physics in it are insanely good. Forza is great if you want flashy cars that you can make look pretty, but no other driving game does nearly as good of a job as GT in the realism department. I honestly can't believe more people think Forza is a better game...

How can you honestly say that gran tourismo is more realistic when clearly forza has better physics and game play and by the looks of pictures and videos comes close to graphics as well

I love both games , I found the gran turismo games more hardcore than forza but forza 2 is just so playable with great physics damage and so on. I will buy both forza 3 and GT5. I think that GT5 will be amazing simply because they are adding the top gear test track and everyone is a budding stig ... It'll turn into the best ever online competition seeing who is the fastest round the track , Bring it on . I hope its compatible with my logitech g25 wheel because that will be the most realistic experience ever.

Forza, in my opinion, has always been better. Its has more inventive tracks ad is far more realistic as the cars can actually gat damaged, roll over, and become un-drivable, like in real life.

Gran Turismo 4 did have a penalty for crashing into walls and other cars. It was a handicap mode where if you hit the wall or another car, your car speed was delayed for 3 seconds. Most people don't know that.
Forza 2 had better physics than GT4, but Polyphony knew that the PS2 controllers wouldn't be able to handle real physics, so they didn't put it in (fingers aren't good at controlling braking and acceleration levels). That's why GT4 was more fun to play with a controller, and Forza 2 was just frustrating. Forza 2 was more fun with a wheel and pedals.

GT 5 for me, i like forza and forza 3 looks as good as GT 5 prologue, a two year old game, im not saying thats a bad think cause that game still looks the nuts. but the new video for GT 5 looks even better and it now has damage, look at the subaru in the vid looks good. as for game play GT has always offered the best most detailed gameplay of any racing game, forza is fun and i will be buying the third one but GT is where my heart is

I've been with Gran Turismo since the very first game, but for me personally whilst the GT series stagnated, Forza came along and put that fun back into the console sim genre. The poll is currently 50/50 and that is about right; both of these games will be very good.

I Didnt like Forza 2 if im honest for all sorts of reasons but the E3 demo of Forza 3 left me speechless it really does look like its going to be a Amazing Improvement over Forza 2, & at last a cockpit view for us Real Hardcore Racers!

I liked the Forza series, and seeing what they are offering to the table in the new Forza and Im liking it. Including all the other games coming out this Fall!

I have both of these games. I must say that there are different reasons as to why to like both of these. I liked Forza for it's customization, damage, and all round quality. I liked GT5 Prologue for it's amazing looks and attention to insane detail. The reason as to why I voted for Forza 3 was, the only thing I didn't like were amazing graphics for Forza 2. Looking at Forza 3, they DO have those great graphics now. It seems as though Turn 10 has kept what they needed to keep, and made better of what needed to be fixed.

Its Taken Gran Turismo 5 goes to get where they are in 3 Forza is already ahead especially in Mods!

Until Gran Turismo takes into account tire deformation in their physics, Forza will remain the superior racing simulation.

Forza even takes into account the time of day and the temperature of the race track surface. Gran Turismo 6 might compare...but we're gonna have to wait a while for that.

@NOMUKEN : Okay, GT came out in '98 ... Forza in 2005.

So basically, it took Forza 3 games to get to where GT 5 is (GT4 came out in 2005, so 2 games).

There is no doubt in my mind which game will emerge as the best console based RACING sim... Thats Forza 3, everything that forza 3 has to offer (what we know about already) looks to be just a cut above; physics, damage, player customization, actual racing, community feedback and consideration by turn 10. Not to mention forza will actually be released!!! I really feel for u ps3 boys having a game that has taken so long to be released and then before release to be out done by the competition! just go get yourselves an xbox there only 150$!!! ha ha

iv played the gt5 demo and forza 2 the physics in gt5 demo feel sluggish with every car and forza 2 feels more real in the way the car reacts to the driver
now it pissed me off when sony sells $50 DEMO!!!! as it were a full game i say demo because in gt4 you could buy upgrades but in the gt5 demo no and in gt4 more cars way more cars and gt5 not much at all lol now for the people that compare forza2 and 3 against gt5 and say gt5 has better physics then they have never driven a real car to know what it feels and looks like so they have no right to compare the two and be closed minded about the two

How good a game is depends on more than just graphics XBOX is more in touch with gamers than sony and thats why FORZA is such an innovative racing sim with tuning, racing and painting the forza 2 community is still going strong and the next title is already here. I used to be a big fan of GT but the wait between titles is unecessary when you can put out a game and then add to it with DLC like microsoft will do rather than puting out half a game like the proloque titles from polyphony

I don't understand the posts saying that Gran Turismo is the better game, because it's more "realistic" or has better physics. You guys have no idea what you're talking about.

These people either haven't played Forza on full sim, or they have NO CLUE that Forza's physics calculations FAR OUTCLASS Gran Turismo's. Not only are the physics in Forza 3 well beyond GT's, but the AI of the cars you race against are NIGHT and DAY better.

Forza 3 should, and hopefully WILL win this vote. Yes, GT does have a better lighting system and better looking car models in the end...on average...but it is NOT the better SIM game and overall package (going by GT:P of course). Not to mention...it's not even out yet..let alone having a release date.

Those of us that run cars in real life, and have played both series of games to death...we'll take Forza's physics, feel, and depth of gameplay any day.

I vote Forza 3, because it will more than likely be released before 2012.

I remember when they were comparing Forza 2 to GT 5. Now they're comparing Forza 3 to GT 5. In another 2 years they'll be comparing Forza 4 to GT 5.

First of all Gran Tourismo's physics engine has always been 3rd rate. Its comparable to an xbox arcade racer. The only thing simulation about Gran Tourismo are the graphics. The cars in Gran Tourismo do not hand anything like they should not to mention car setups dont make significant differences like they do in Forza. Forza 3 will out sell GT5 (if it ever comes out) and is an overall much better, and far more complete game. Yes GT5 looks great but Forza looks just as good now. The biggest difference between GT5 and Forza though is the community, GT5 has a small fanboy following for the most part, however Forza is a whole community of all kinds of different talented people. Including racers, hotlappers, painters, tuners, producers, etc. GT series has clearly been overtaken by forza as the #1 console racing brand.

Why have so few here really tried Forza?

Forza is unplayable with a controller? Why do so many prefer it? Many track records in this game has been set with one!

I have played both previous incarnations of both forza and Gt and for pure gameplay Forza comes out on top whilst on visuals Gt does . but on the visuals aspect Forza have closed up while Giving lots of tracks and cars and I honestly cant see Gt Beating it so Sorry Forza for me

A lot of you are comparing Forza 2 and GT4, then just making assumptions about what the new games will be like. Nobody's played GT5 and Forza and knows what the physics or gameplay will be like. I voted for GT5 because I find it completely unfair that Forza is winning based on false information, and that some forum or something is offering free Forza DLC to vote for Forza on this poll. What complete bollocks. It would make me incredibly happy for GT5 to win this poll considering all the crap that Forza devs keep spewing about it.

Too many flamers and trolls in this comment section (most of them are Microsoft fans and a few Sony fans) who have no idea what they are talking about and have probably never played a racing game properly or have never played a sim racing game ever. I am going to buy both games because a true gamer does not have one console and one option, both consoles are good and I am sure both games will be similar but have different features from one another. I love to see reviews like this because every fanboy comes out talk a little smack. For me, its all about game play and physics. I own GT1 - GT4 and FM1 & FM2 and without a doubt in my mind, the Forza franchise is head and shoulders above the Gran Turismo offerings. These two games are racing SIMS and Forza does a way better job at "SIM". Sure the graphics in the GT series are amazing but the game play and physics play second fiddle to the Forza games.

I have played a beta copy of FM3 and I have played GT5 Prologue and I must say that again, Forza got it right and the GT game felt.... awful to be frank. I was seriously disappointed on how the cars handled in GT5 Prologue. I consider myself an avid tuner in both games and know how a car should "feel" even in stock trim and the physics engine in GT5 Prologue was very lacking. The new improved physics engine in FM3 is UNMATCHED in any console sim game. I have yet to play a SIM racer that can compare to what Forza Motorsport 3 offers and trust me when I say I buy them all.

Now in my opinion, Forza Motorsport 3 has every bit of the graphics detail that many people said were lacking in previous releases. Graphics are nice indeed and they will blow you away in FM3 but to a TRUE sim racer, its about physics and game play. In this department, the GT5 is going to be really lacking....

Forza is so desperate. They came out at E3 and claimed to be the 'best driving sim EVAR' or whatever the PR line was, then the next day at the Sony show, they showed GT5 with WRC, NASCAR, a PSP version with 800 cars, and everybody's jaw hit the floor. Polyphony Digital doesn't have to prove themselves to anyone, especially some studio like Turn 10. Gran Turismo's lifetime sales and the markets speak for themselves.

Some of you have not read a certain thread in the Forza forums, wherein many people actually admit to voting for Forza solely because they wanted the Unicorn car. Certainly that makes the poll void? Of course, if GT still manages to win (and it's catching up) then it just goes to show that bribery and lies are not enough to turn these things in your favor.

By the way, if you voted for Forza just for the prize, feel free to post a comment. You haven't done anything wrong for wanting it, but I hear you can claim the prize without actually voting for Forza. (I may be wrong)

I did find out about the poll from said thread, but I voted for FM3 because I believe it will be a better game, not a more realistic LOOKING game, but a better one by far. Did any of the GT fanboys ever stop to think that the reason the other side picks at you so much is because you all make it SO much fun?!

Here you all are, getting all butt hurt and challenging the validity of a poll that was completely meaningless from the start! Sure, some have had the opportunity to play the Alpha build of FM3, but we haven't seen anything more than a completely worked, theatrical-style trailer for GT5 (if you watched that trailer, with the cars in the streets of a busy town and those 'air show' jets flying around and thought it was indicative of game play...I fear that your mother may have dropped you on your head as an infant LOL) and not even a MENTION of a possible release date, season, quarter, year, decade...well, you get the idea! I'm predicting (judging by PD's track record and extreme unwillingness to divulge anything remotely meaningful) that FM3 will be about half way (or more) into its life cycle before GT5 drops.

So, you beat your chest and wave the flag of a developer that has taken the better part of a decade (so far) to come out with a no-gameplay trailer for a game that they made you pay $40 for a DEMO of and post things like the incoherent, profanity-laden, unfounded drivel posted on the first page of comments (fanboy to the max)...is it really that hard to see why it's entertaining to antagonize your legions?

To note, I was a faithful GT fan from 1 to 4, but I have lost patience with PD and their vanity - perhaps they should spend less time doing things like "designing" concept cars (I use the word designing very loosely here - taking Maserati and slapping fish gill/wisker-thingys and a Citroen badge on it doesn't constitute an original design, ripoff artists) and automotive user interfaces and spend more time making the damn game! Then, maybe I'll consider buying a PS3 and GT5.

I agree that the poll is meaningless, even if GT5 wins. Neither game is out yet. I plan on buying both, and if I'm dissapointed by Forza, I will not buy another. If I am dissapointed by GT5 (which I hope I am not) I will probably still but the next game, depending on how dissapointing it is. Why? Not because I am a 'fanboy', but because Gran Turismo has not make claims of being the best game, having no competition, and that other games in the genre are "stagnant". I can already say based on the videos I have seen, Forza has not changed much since 2. Or 1. GT5 on the other hand has quite a lot of new things that you can tell from the supposedly meaningless video. It is obvious that WRC, NASCAR, etc will be in the game. No I do not think those special effects will be included, nor do I care. BTW, I do not own GT5 Prologue, and I find GT4's physics to be completely unrealistic, but I still thought it was a more fun game because it offered more variety, in content and in gameplay. BTW, if Turn 10 cares about it's fanbase, why did so many complain of glitches and such that were never sorted out? What happened with the vinyl slipping glitch (serious question)? Were the complaints unwarranted? What about all the things they promised for Forza 2 LAST TIME? Where did all those things go? Did they forget about them? Did the fans forget about them? I would really appreciate answers to these questions if you know them. I will remain hopeful of both games, but if they don't deliver, more consequences will certainly come to the game whose developers promised it was the best out there.

@Dylan: Thanks for the well thought out response (totally serious) :) I too will be willing to buy both games if GT5 ends up justifying its dev time and I'd be buying the PS3 solely for it, but PD have really got to up their game to get me back...I frankly do not care all that much about graphics, so the main selling point so far is lost on me. I would actually prefer that PD not even bother with rally, because they really have never done a good job with it, nor do I care fore driving around in a circle. I'd have to disagree with you about PD having never touted themselves as the best...do they not tout their game as the 'Ultimate Driving Simulator'? I think you'd probably agree that title most likely belongs to a more deserving (and more realistic) PC sim, no? Sure, T10 has been using 'fightin words' when speaking of the efforts of their rival, but they are the young guns in the console racing sim world and they are getting people talking. Fact: if T10 hadn't posted the call to vote in this poll, GT5 would have had a landslide victory...Not for being vastly superior, but because people are lemmings and will most often vote with the popular choice without consideration. I prefer Forza Motorsport for the community and its sense of comradery and creativity (it's truly unparalleled). The community really is like a big car club, just a bunch of gear heads sharing their ideas and their work with others like us. Simply put, Forza is tailored for the guy who endlessly researches prospective cars their available mods, and has a full mod map laid out in an Excel spread sheet before he even buys the car; and GT is tailored for the guy who reads the Dupont Registry, always dreaming of owning his most desired cars - and likely owning some of them eventually. Both are Car Guys, they're just different kinds, IMHO of course. In respect to T10 listening to the community and fixing bugs: Lotus Elan PI bug - Fixed; AWD Glitch for RWD cars - Fixed and scoreboards wiped; Porsche/Pirelli credit glitch - Fixed and credits reset. Hell, they even put in the (gag) Foxbody Mustang, SUVs, cock-pit view (all things I really could have lived without in favor of more meaningful game additions) and brought back Fujimi Kaido for FM3 because the community cried out for it. There's no question that T10 is the most community-friendly developer in console gaming, it's not even a contest. Layer shift could not be fixed through a patch, I know for certain that resolving the problem was actively pursued, but not possible. So we painters have learned to combat it using tricks with layers and saving habits and are looking forward to glitch free painting in FM3. As far as the things that were promised for Forza 2, I cannot say, because I still had my PD hat on back then :)

I agree with everything you have just said, and must thank you for being cool and accurate when so many others seem to have trouble comprehending that neither game is perfect. The long wait for new games seems to be the main problem with PD, and I can only hope it will be worth it. Kaz really does try for perfection (in his eyes) at the expense of anything close to an on schedule release. This can be frustrating, but I try to imagine what may have been left out if they didn't spend an extra month or two. I'll check these comments every once in a while, but for now I think I'm done posting them. I've said what I needed to say, and there was actually a fan of the other game listening! I voted GT5 cause its teh best, im 11 and i know whats what, it handles just like the cars i stoled from dem mans house.. What's funny is that none of the comments are remotely similar to that, for Forza or GT5. There is some bias but to claim others are fanboys, especially the way you just did, makes it clear to everyone that you are, at the very least, biased towards Forza.

Oh well a poll with 13,000 votes means nothing lol. It will come down to the fact that more people can afford the cheaper Xbox 360 and in turn forza 3. Even though Ps3 is better and so is the Grand Turismo series.

D.Vader, okay what the guy did wasn't smart and was inappropriate, please don't think that T10 is like that, they all worked extremely hard to turn out an exceptional game as should be commended for that as should PD for what they have done for the console racing sim.
T10 is heavily involved with their community and have a history of handing out rewards of this nature for posted comments in blogs and threads. It is not new but this time was probably not the right way to go about it. It is not DLC it is obtained in the Auction House which they offer daily for a low starting price and also they occasionally reward the community by having a giveaway for a day or a week where the flood the AH with them daily so that people have the opportunity to buy them cheap ( in game credits ).
There is no real comparison at the moment and it will only be once both franchises get their product on the market that we will see what they have accomplished for their fan base. It's just a shame to see both franchises fans take offense and be bitter in a poll that should never ( in good sense ) have been put forward.

Both GT1 and 3 outsold both Forzas combined. Turn 10 has a long way to go before they can have the right to be 'bullish' towards PD. Newcomers (i.e. xbots), will prolly go for Forza. But true fans of the genre will undoubtedly be playing the real driving simulator. Those who'll play both will undoubtedly say GT5 is better. Nothing personal, it's just that us O.G's (original gamers) have more knowledge of these things.

Well I just want a game that makes me feel like I am actually driving a real Shelby Cobra on a real track...and Gran Turismo 5 will be that game.

Wow, ok, so most Forza fans are actually defending rigged polls? No matter if Forza would win or not, the fact that it's rigged nullifies it. Calling people GT fanboys just because they call on it doesn't change the fact that it is bribery and this poll is void.

Although, I'm not surprised CNET hasn't done anything about it yet.

Looking at both of the trailers objectively you can see that Forza has that Arcade feel and Gran Turismo has a more realistic feel. There is no doubt in my mind which one is the best and there shouldn't be any doubt in yours. If you look at the videos you can see that Forza still looks like a game, the graphics the animation are not up-to-par, but when you look at Gran Turismo there are times when you think 'wow that's real'! I want to play a game that gives me real graphics and animation and plays just like racing games should, you will only find this in GT5 and only on the Playstation 3.

View the trailers, use your eyes, and be honest with yourself. Which one truely looks the best? Which one has ALWAYS looked the best? Forza is more in the 'need for speed' category and really shouldn't be compared to the outstanding Gran Turismo. It's like comparing Ugly Betty(Forza) to Jessica Alba(GT5). Crap comparison but you get the point.

I think it's funny how all the Forza fanboys come on and say 'Forza has better physics' If you had ever raced a car in real life and played both Forza and GT5p, you would realise that GT5p feels a lot more accurate than Forza. Forzas physics just feel that little bit Arcadey, not down to a NFS level of physics, but it's just not quite up to the level of GT5p.

On the other hand though, Forzas collision physics are slightly better, Polyphony could improve quite a lot in that respect, but hopefully it will be a bit better in GT5.

When I play the next installment of a GT game it always feels like the previous game, when I play the next installment of a forza series game, it feels like a completely different experience, the features are always new and unmatched. Im sorry but i have to go with GT5 just for the way it looks & the physics engine has always been better in GT game the any other racing game and i know because i have compared the physics with forza and gt before and to be honest GT makes real cars and make the video games, do the math they have more experiance in making a racing simulater then the Forza team and have much more experience. It's not Karma, it's the simple fact that 70% of all people are incapable of original thought. Anyone with a brain knew that Forza would never win. People today love celebutants, being on the side that 'wins', and anything having to do with Japan. Gran Turismo 5 will be the better game.

Forza 3 only has 400 vehicles - Gran Turismo 5 will have 800+.

There are more actual [and better rendered tracks] in Gran Turismo 5 and the attention to detail is far better in my opinion in the GT series - as are the graphics and physics.

Well, I have been a GT fan from the start. The way the game has evolved throughout the years. There is simply no need to stray. It has everything one could ever want in the ultimate driving experience. Aside from the two games here. I think the bribe issue that the developers of Forza have put out is just another indicator of how I will not buy their game. This is the Internet guys and word travels fast. Your votes are rigged by your own bribes to give player's " free gifts " to vote for your game. As if they cannot decide by themselves with their own minds? Everyone who hasn't seen their bribe thread can just search it on their own forum.

I have both PS3 and X360, but I have time to play just one racing game. I'm gonna stick with GT again, this round. Although I've never played any of the Forza games, I really don't think you can go wrong with that franchise, either.

OMG peope still think GT5 is realistic? It is nothing but a pretty face. Forza beats it down in every major category other than graphics (and apart from some features like WRC which will be half arsed anyway) and then pc sims beat forza down in every category except graphics as things like rfactor have mods for better sound, HDR plugins etc.

Forza is pulling the graphics lead back a fair bit with FM3, so Forza is the best console all rounder, but for pure realism pc sims can't be beaten.

Turn 10 is pathetic. They took a fall now just after the proud and offensive statements.

I completely agree with ha! One reason why GT doesn't want people customize the exterior is because people will make the cars look like the fast and the furious piece of sh*t. Plus, the customization in forza 1 and 2 was so lame, you can't even change the color for the brand-name stickers.
Graffiti, I'm glad you mentioned that you are a xbot drifter, because that just shows how much you know nothing about RACING. Drifting is the poorest example of automotive racing.
By the way, Forza has the worst cars to choose from. Each brand has crap cars, and the cars that people actually like, looks like sh*t. The only cars that looked any good were the ferrari's. And why did Forza add JGTC cars and Le Mans cars when no one in the Forza community cares about them (or even know what they are?).
Furthermore, I couldn't feel the difference between many of the cars in Forza. Unlike GT4, I couldn't say "oh, this car feels heavy (M3) compared to this car (elise)" or "this car understeers so much (Fwd) compared to this car (Rwd)." In forza, I was like, "ummmmm, they're trying to make this car understeer, but it just feels stupid." And then, all the supercars felt like I was driving an arcade game--too easy.
Oh, and there isn't a replay for two player races. WTF with that??!?! Plus, when you do two-player races, the cars look like cr@p. The taillights looked ridiculous. I'm sorry, but I like to play with friends at my house, and when you dumb down the 2 player races, that just kills it for me. GT has always gotten that right, part 1, 2, 3 and 4. Forza should have taken better notes when they played GT 1,2,3,and 4 (or did they not have any friends to play the 2-player split screen with?).

GT5 trailer revealed that there will be damage, OFFICIAL NASCAR and WRC. the detailed environment looked amazing and so realistic. also with the addition of the top gear track which im guessing will cause alot of competition should be fun, and the london track also looks polished to perfection. also there will be more cars(over 600 in GT5) and over 90 tracks which im guessing is similar to forza. also a track editor in gt5 will also be included.

The FORZA 3 trailer didnt look like much of an improvement to forza 2 and just looked stupid and aimed a teenagers with the cheesy slow motion effects. I dont think it revealed much. I disliked Forza 2 becuase of the way it just was. I think you need the force feedack wheel to appreciate it however the game just seemed not for me. I hated alot of it. I liked the online auctions but i dislike the body customisation, is it trying to be Need for speed? the drifting just looked stupid in the trailer and i have to say that even NFS SHIFT looked better.

Well the war has not started so you cannot say which is best, just which trailer looked best. I personally love GT and i recon gt5 will be the better game. even if the sales are lower.

both these games are exclusives and expect there to be alot of defensive talk even if the game is rubbish becuase people who only own a PS3 can only get GT and people who only own an xbox 360 can get F3. Xbox 360 has more owners so expect polls to be slightly more xbox360.
