Free software is not recommended for business use as it lacks (in my experience) four crucial things:
Accountability - who do you complain to when it doesn't work
Support - again, you are reliant on 'community forums' to fix problems
Development - you may be lucky and reach version 1.1 before the developer loses interest, but what then?
Standardization - how easily will it interface with other applications, eg access control, PTZ control, email, browsers, O/S etc.
