Should the new water tower have a pumpkin painted on it?

I grew up in Morton ~ I always thought that the top of the tower on Detroit St. should of been a pumpkin.

I grew up in Morton as well. With Morton being the "Pumpkin Capitol of the World" I thought it would only be appropriate to paint the tower as a pumpkin. I know this has been an issue for many years. People say its "tacky." tacky or not we will always be known for our Pumpkin Festival and everything pumpkin associated with it. We need a decent logo of this town! tourists would love to see something like that. We need to have some pride! Our pumpkin festival is world famous!! Its time to get the noses out of the air and have a bit of fun with this.

I agree with you guys. This almost seems like it should have been done long before. Sometimes, "tacky" is a good thing. I think it is more cute/humorous and shows good character of the village.

Pumpkins and Morton go together. We don't understand what is tacky about that. Driving through South Carolina is a decorated peach on a water tower. A town in Texas has a strawberry, another has a tea pot and on and on. It would be an eye catcher to all driving through Morton. We think it would really be a wonderful addition to Morton's landscape.

There is no question - it should not only have a pumpkin on it, it should be fully painted as a pumpkin. If we are not willing to do this, we should voluntarily relinquish our claim to be "Pumpkin Capital of the World!"

I would agree! This town claims to be the "Pumpkin Capital of The World" so why wouldn't you paint a pumpkin on it! Shouldn't even be a question. Too many politics in this town!
