I would like to know how the the town selected the provider of the containers?
How did the town notify the community and or post the need for a contract to provide the 64 gallon containers? If so how long was the posting/notification and how many bids were received? If not how did the town select the provider we now have?
I am torn about this new automated trash pick-up. I know we need to save the town some money, but should we be getting rid of jobs like these in this economy. It is a dirty job and believe me in the summer I've got some of the worst trash in the world, but the pay is great for the work and one doesn't need a college degree. I feel like we are messing with some hard working peoples livelyhoods. By the way we are a family of 6 and we recycle so much we rarely have more trash than can't fit in two regular trash barrels.
My parents' city did this a few years back, but they were also provided with a third barrel where composing things are put into...that includes all old scraps of food as well as yard waste.
I speak for families of 5 or more. One barrel is not enough! In order to have a 2nd barrel, we have to pay an outrageous price for it, plus on top of the taxes I already pay for this service they want to charge us a yearly fee. With a larger family, and a crappy economy we're barely getting by, never mind the extra cost for a 2nd barrel!!!
