Since all our 6 babies have been nursed, I am naturally the one who is up for nighttime feedings (made easier by keeping baby in bed with us). My husband is a heavy sleeper, while I am the opposite -- so it is usually me who hears & responds to those late night coughs, sniffles, & whimpers from a bad dream. However, my dear husband is ALWAYS the one who sits up all night with a stuffy baby so the little one can breathe/sleep & so I can get some rest. He also takes the baby downstairs from some one-on-one time if baby is up unusually early, so I can get some extra sleep.
Beware of saying were done with nighttime parenting! I just spent the entire night on the couch with my 19 year old. But she just made brownies and brought me an edge piece and milk-- there are rewards.
