I don't know all of the details but it is amazing to me that this is the same town that will not allow an upscale retail lifestyle center(that would have increased the tax base and provided many new jobs) because of concerns about traffic. The same town that will not allow a drive-thru at dunkin donuts because they don't want idling cars or truckers getting off the highway in Westford. But an asphalt manufacturer and all of the evironnmental concerns that come with that is no problem.
Totally agreed with your comments.
Plus the fact that this Asphalt Plant is located so close to our brand new K-2 Miller School. What kind of message will this bring to the general public as well as the federal government?
I agree. What about odor as well? The wind will carry the smell of asphalt to the neighborhoods surrounding the plant, INCLUDING the Miller school. Will the children be forced indoors? And what about the fact, admitted to by the proposed plant owners themselves, that production will occur both DAY and NIGHT because most road work is done at night??
Wonder if this is the type of business that helped Westford to recently be named as a Top 100 Town to relocate to in the US and the only town on that list that's in Massachusetts. NOT! I realize that they will reportedly be within EPA & MA DEP emission guidlines but so is what comes out of the tailpipe of my car and you don't have to be a rocket scientist to know that that's bad for you to breathe! Don't want this ANYWHERE in Westford!
