Should Smashing Magazine publish more Mac-related posts?

Yes, absolutely - the more, the merrier!

Yeah, why not...

No, better not

No, SM is not the place for Mac-stuff

I don't know

A lot of designers use Macs for their design work - it'd probably be quite helpful.

Look we can argue Mac Vs PC all day long. I've used both, owned both, design and develop for both. Content should be geared to toward good design for all platforms.

SM is (in my humble opinion) already very focused on Adobe software and Wordpress. Please don't turn it into a Mac-centered site as well.

2009-05-22 12:44:32 ET

Sure. No one serious about web design works on Win.

For the love of god no, if the last major Mac post proved anything its that people apprecaited design/creative posts more than platform bases ones.

If you are working as a professional in the web industry and not some kid working out of their basement then you are likely to be a mac user. Thus more mac stuff please.

Just to clarify: when talking about Mac-Stuff on SM, we are talking not about Mac vs Win-discussions, but about useful Mac-tools for designers and web-developers.

2009-05-22 12:54:38 ET

A good balance of both - makes it a win / win

2009-05-22 13:02:07 ET

@Pepa, that's really black/white thinking..

If there are going to be more posts about Mac, do it too for Win.

Agreed with the people above, design over platform please, that's why I read SmashingMag.
If I wanted to read mac articles, I'd read a mac magazine, there are plenty around already.

I think people can get their Mac news in other places. Doing more Mac-centric posts would have a good percentage of your readers clicking off your site.

I don't have a Mac at work or at home. Why would I stick around Smashing Mag to read a Mac-centric post? You'd chase me, and others, away.

Stick with design!

2009-05-22 13:50:48 ET

Design should not be be system related - and there are more than enough Mac-sites out there.

I'm a mac user and I say design over platform please.

Mac/PC/Linux all have great design tools

2009-05-22 14:29:56 ET

i agree with deacon - design over platform. if i need OS tips and tricks i'll head to lifehacker.

Even if I'm lucky enough to work in both environnement (Mac & Win), I know many people working in the "web industry" who have no choice than working with a PC.

This said, that poll is useless ! Am I wrong if I say that you have many visitors using a Mac ? So, they will, for sure, love some posts about Mac stuff.

Nooo! Keep it platform independent. Good design is what matters

2009-05-22 21:21:17 ET

Please don't! Having worked on both macs and pcs for more than 25 years, I can tell you it's not about the system - it's about the skill, technique and the software. For so many years there has been endless debate between the 2 formats, and it just doesn't matter to the true designer.

I would rather see focus on software and technique -

I use Ubuntu Linux recently converted from Windows. I like that apple and linux have a unix base and are better than windows in that way but one thing I've learned is that these days it shouldn't matter what operating system you use. Windows, Mac and Linux can do mostly the same stuff these days and to favour Mac is not fair. Mostly because I hate the fanboism that goes with it.

Please no. There are plenty of Mac Fan sites. I come here for design, not os. And yes, I use a Mac.
Regards,
Aaron
