What do you think about Councilman Kenneth Stokes’ comments on race and crime in west Jackson?

I have no respect for him or his comments anymore. There is a time and a place for everything. A time to speak and a time to not speak. Considering that Kenneth thinks that the black communities is infested with hiv/aids and crime he should be ousted by the people of Jackson. He should be in the community combating everything that rightiously effects the people in inner cities thoughtout Hinds county. He should have, at the time been in a place to show compation for that particular family. Instead he makes the victim look like a crack addict or aids victim. HE SHOULD BE ASHAMED OF HIMSELF...... and the people of Jackson should now look at who is running there city and why it is going down hill. This man was so set on saying stupid sh** instead of supporting a much needed family who is now in need of support. HE SHOULD BE ASHAMED OF HIMSELF........He labled that man because of the cummunity he lived in. That in itself was racist and HE SHOULD BE ASHAMED.

Oh yea, i recommend all white people go into the inner city of Jackson and get your white loved ones. They will catch hiv/aids and they are a drug addict. I recommend all white people, continue to move out of Jackson and let the blacks have it. THATS WHAT KENNETH SAID, he may as well have said it. Thats the way it came off to me. Jackson until you get people out of government who is non-compassionate like this man, you will continue to crumble. THERE IS A TIME AND PLACE FOR EVERYTHING and HE SHOULD BE ASHAMED OF HIMSELF

I feel like Kenneth Stokes didn't give his opinions or ideas much thought or consideration for the family or the people of west jackson. It seems like he was degrading the people of west jackson. All the issues he mention are worldwide issues,not just issues affecting west jackson,but what is he going to do about them than just talk about them. So many times public service officials thrive on the poor,the less fortunate and the forgotting ones for their own benefit. Instead of helping the problem,they become the problem. How is the city of Jackson or the state of Mississippi going to prosper into the 21st century with that mentality. All Mississippi officials need to be held accountable and do their jobs they were voted in to do.

I think the man was right when he says the guy was out of place. However, If a white public official made that statement in a white neiborhood about a black person being out of place, he/she would be SLAMMED for it and called a racist!! Jackson is going down. I absolutely refuse to go to parts of jackson because it is so bad and I don't beleive it will ever change. It takes drastic measures sometimes to change things and I don't beleive that people in jackson will let someone go to drastic measures to change things. I think Melton could have been that man but the people pratically took him to the grave.

I'll agree with Kenneth on one condition. That he keep HIS black A&* out of MY neighborhood. Oh, wait, that's racist, isn't it?

I am appalled at Kenneth Stokes comments, Did it occur to him that this young man was living where he could only afford to live at? Furthermore what does this young mans death have to do with the white peoples children-the guy was 37 years old. He needs to put the brain in gear before he engages the mouth. If you are in the public's eyes, you have to be careful when speaking on sensitive issues, and Kenneth Stokes should know this, but unfortunately he doesn't. I think he should apologize to the family if he offended them because it's just the morally correct thing to do. On the other hand, it is some truth in the words being spoken. I have been living in North Jackson for over three years and my apt has been broken into twice; i was working in a store that was robbed and I have watched the news depicting violence mainly through out the poorer "black" neighborhoods and it is really heart-breaking. So,do I think he should apologize? Yes, because of being a public official. Do I think all black neighborhoods in Jackson are dangerous? Of course not, but the truth remains the same when you look at the violence in the "black" community. We should focus on solutions than wasting time pointing fingers at one another.

You know I think that Kenneth should start thinking before he speaks. You can not just say whatever is on your mind, because it just may sound as ignorant as he does. I mean let's be honest what kind of city official really comes on television addressing the public with the type of grammer that he uses. I can remember just last year this idiot was on televison saying "HELL NO, HELL NAW, OR HELL TO THE NO", concerning a situation dealing with the late Mayor Frank Melton. Let's just be honest with ourselves he is an embarrassment, well at least to myself. We need to all take a look at why we really vote people like this in over and over and over again.

It's not just about West Jackson. It's about all of Jackson. I live in south Jackson and can hear gun shots, see crack deals and prostitutes all during the day. It sounds like Kenneth is saying it's okay for a black man to get killed in that neighborhood but not white? It's wrong no matter what the race of the man. I lived in Kenneth Stokes ward and I'm white. Sorry but I don't do crack or have AIDS Kenneth. People need to learn to see color and get over it. We are different, but the same! Learn, Laugh and Live. My thoughts and prayers are with the victim and his family.

I was appalled with the comments that Mr. Stokes said. He should apoligize to the community. If a black person wants to live in a white neighborhood, we are not to say anything, but people seem to think that it is okay for the black community to say whatever they please against the white race. I am a white woman, who happens to be a recovering drug addict, I live in an apartment complex with all black people. There are drugs everywhere and just because you are white does not mean that you are on drugs. There are plenty of people of all races that are on drugs. He needs to be conceerned about all the violence in his ward and not who choses to live there. Last time I checked, this was 2009 and the days of slavery are over with. People need to grow up and wake up. We need to learn to work together, not against each other.

Kenneth Stokes comments are meant to convince the white community to alienate certain black communities. These are the same neighborhoods that already have too many vacant homes in an already gloomy housing market. I just don't think he should've singled out ANY particular race and advocate segregation. He should apologize to the people in West Jackson and especially the family of the deceased.

i don't whether or not to agree or disagree. He did speak the truth but what a damn idiot he is. I am really tired of black people making racist comments and its just a normal thing and white people do it and the whole world shuts down. But man, west jackson is nothing but a big slum. I really don't think there is a solution for it. The only solution is to have a leader who can motivate people as a whole to get off their ass and make a difference in their communities. I guess Barack will help that, but inner city Jackson will never make a turn around. It will always be a big pile of crap.

We want to put the blame on anyone and anybody for the condition that we find ourselves in. We first need to do what the Book of 2 Chron in the Bible speaks of, If my people who are called by my name will humble themselves and pray, turn from their wicked ways, seek my face and pray, I will be their God, I will hear from heaven forgive their sins, and heal the land. There is to much sin of every kind in the world. Our land needs healing!! Where has Love gone?
Until we bring prayer back into the NATION as a whole, we are a lost cause.
