Between Goodwill, Salvation Army, Gabriel Brothers (a huge, cheap outlet-type store) & a few great consignment shops in town...I'm so spoiled by super-cheap clothing prices that I can hardly bear to spend more than $5 on an item of clothing, unless absolutely necessary.
Foodwise, unless its on sale & I have a coupon that will double...I'm not likely to buy it (excluding milk & fresh produce). We also shop (seasonally) at the local farmer's market (fresher & better priced) & buy some items in bulk (flour, w.w. pasta, rice, grains, etc.) from a local food co-op that delivers to town monthly.
I clip SOME coupons, but rarely for food items, because most of the food items are pre-packaged goods. I have found it's almost always cheaper and always tastier/healthier to make food from scratch. When I have coupons, I try to buy stuff on sale so I feel extra successful at thriftiness.
ALL our clothing comes from thrift stores, except for underwear and socks (though I have occasionally lucked out). I can even find Catholic school uniforms at thrift stores.
We're on such a tight budget, and employer has issued a mandatory 10% paycut across the board this summer, so we're really stretched...growing a lot of our own food. Lots of the kids' winter pants are being cut into shorts so I don't even have to spend $1 or $2 at a thrift store on them. AC will stay off until July 4, later if we're blessed with a mild season. It's just tough these days.
