Should Obama's budget cut all subsidies to states for jailing illegal immigrants?

The "Yes" votes are, as I write this, 12% of the total. Coincidently (not), 12% of the U.S. is comprised of illegal aliens.

I concur, where else can you "NOT DO YOUR JOB" and hang the result on someone else. When are people going to wake-up?

What an outrage! The federal government doesn't do its job — that is — keep illegal aliens out of the country. Then it does not even want to reimburse states for what they have to spend to incarcerate illegal alien criminals?

This country is upside down. Illegals get preferential treatment under our laws. Americans only suffer as a consequence. (Free health care, In State tuition, among many other options Americans don't qualify for) You got to be kidding.

Obama is an embarrassment and an insult to the nation. (And on this issue, so was Jorge Bush.)

Where have we heard this before: "We WILL enforce border security!"

Oh, yes, George W Bush - just before he tried to ram scamnesty down our throats!

Instead of cutting states' assistance in jailing illegals...STOP giving them all the handouts they are now getting...illegals have NO rights; go back where you came from for ALL social services and penalize employers who hire illegals...

  • challangerjuan - 15 years ago

Yes, cut it. The main reason is that the local governments and states alike are using this funding to aquire monies but are NOT arresting illegals. El Paso, Eagle Pass, Laredo, Zapata, McAllen are arresting people without ID's and clasifying them as illegals and cashing in. They don't need the money... arrest them and deport them plain and simple.

Ya, it's about getting the votes, however, What do you think will happen with a bunch of illegal felons running around. They have nothing to lose if they know they will be sent back, only to come back anytime they want. I don't know what Obama is thinking but it seems he isn't thinking at all.

This could be a good thing...or it could be bad, depending on whether the fed govt does step up and enforce border policies. If they actually do what they are saying and increase the border defense budget to facilitate the immediate deportation of illegal aliens who commit crimes, then it is a good thing. If they won't do that and just leave the states holding the bag...then this is a stupid move. We will just wait and see I guess.

The States should have the right to enforce the law that Obama will not. It is ilegal to sneek into this country, Its ilegal to obtain work with false documents.
Try it yorself sneek into Mexico--Go to Jail

What he SHOULD be cutting is all funding that helps support illegal aliens!!

As pro-union as Obama is, I would think that he would want to do what he could to discourage illegals in this country, since they depress the wages wherever they work.

    Talk about wrong moves!

Tess, I don't think you understand the situation. Right now state taxpayers in states like Arizona, Texas, California and others are paying for healthcare, education, law-enforcement and other costs associated with illegal aliens living in those states because the federal government won't (not cant', won't) maintain our borders and protect our sovereignty. The states I mentioned above account for most of the illegal aliens in the nation. The states can not by law enforce the borders. SCAPP funds help to defray at least a small part of the total costs of these invaders. Without those funds, many cities, counties and probably entire states (CA for sure) will run out of money period. CA spends for example, $1.2B on just jail costs every year for illegal aliens and only get a portion of that back from the federal government who owns responsibility for law enforcement regarding illegal invaders. Under Obama's plan our costs will go up. CA is headed toward complete insolvency and this will make it far, far worse.

I was a life long Democrat, but became registered as unaffiliated voter because my party has gone too far in advocating FOR illegals or unregistered aliens or those that do not play by the rules but will vote Democratic when they all get amnesty and start voting ..... and I am NOT against the fine Mexican people or Latinos .... (here is a self-test to see if one thinks the illegals we have here is a good idea .... why not import 20,000,000 Chinese or 1,000,000 people from the Arab peoples or Nigeria, etc? They are also nice people, and might also be poor and uneducated, but they too want the chance to be here and work and raise kids and not have health insurance, but get free care at the county hospital ..... the benefits list is very long, and I see no reason not to have them here too if it is OK for 20 million other illegals to be here. IF you think that is dumb then maybe you are biased FOR Mexicans and against the others ...... forget about the nationalities, just focus on us having a stable economy without using near-slave-labor disadvantaged to prop up American businesses ...... my old party is blind to the cost of the aliens, and we are having financial difficulty as a nation, and will continue to have more financial problems when the hyper-inflation hits.

Oh, I am an older military veteran having served FIVE tours of duty in Southeast Asia from 1967 to 1970 when my country needed me for war ... and I am a retired federal law enforcement officer that thought the laws were on the books to be enforced and the prisoners kept in jail ... and I am unemployed for 21 months, and yes, I am going to loose my home .... Countrywide the servicer says the mortgage note is owned by Bank of New York which says they do NOT do government sponsored mortgage modifications as they have collateralized my loan ... and B of NY says they can not change the terms of the loan even if they wanted to participate in the program .... better for all parties to see me loose my 25% down and start over at 62. Looks like I should become an illegal alien .... my country will like me more.

No, this is a good move. It states in the article that immigration issues are a federal responsibility, not a state one. Therefore, he's moving the money back from the states back into the federal budget so that federal agents can deal with the aliens properly. And adding all those border patrols help reduce unemployment, which is nice.

  • D=R no difference - 15 years ago

No need to lock them up, just ship them to the nearest sanctuary city, (ie. San Francisco) and let them deal with the criminals!

  • don2002 - 15 years ago

Is this part of the backroom deal with Mexico?
1st let's check for guns on our side of the boarder going south. This ties up BP agents from looking at things going north.
2nd let's not fund the fence.
3rd let's not do sweeps and random checkpoints.
4th let's talk about legalizing grass, thus boosting the profit for the cartels, hence the wars going on down there.
5th lets give illegals welfare and healthcare which is costing the states big $
6th over 2/3s of the prison system in Ca is illegals, and not because they are here either.
It's time to wake up America, you want in wait in line!
Everyone should call their Congressman and tell them to clamp down or seek a new job next election.

BHO will do anything he can to "Save or Create" 4,000,000 new latino voters...

The bogus president is, in all probability, also an illegal alien and just wants to make sure he isn’t jailed sometime in the future.

    Anonymous Author:
"Americans grew tired of being thought to be dumb by the rest of the world, so 69,456,897 went to the polls and removed all doubt." Well maybe not that many - many of them admitted voting multiple times!

  • wifitekman - 15 years ago

Instead of jailing them, send them back! FAST

  • Eric - 15 years ago

Is the President serious ? If the federal government cuts funding, then most states won't have any reason to arrest illegals. As if they go out of their way to do so now ! Pathetic !
