Southern Hickory BBQ is NOT the best at all, but the town I live in has no other choices. The one major down side to this buisness is, they are not open late enough. I tried to buy some BBQ tonight, and it was 6:55 pm, and they were already closed. Some folks don't get home until 6 or 7 and we would love to buy this product. If this buisness isn't open, we can't buy anything. I would love to see Southern Hickory to stay open just a little bit later.

Congratulations to Big Cove BBQ. You deserve to be Number 1... Great food and service.

  • Jim Robinson - 15 years ago

Congratulations to Big Cove BBQ! Winning the Best Taste BBQ in North Alabama is well deserved. Good people, great food with family and friends is as good as it gets! You should go see them and try it yourself! Great BBQ!

  • Steve - 15 years ago

Hey, why did the poll close early? How will a winner be determined?
Why don't the percentages add up to 100%?

  • Meredith - 15 years ago

The polls closed too early! Weren't they supposed to be open until 11:59pm tonight?
    Thanks!

Go back to Georgia Bulldog. If you have been eating New Market and Chuckwagon bbq your tastebuds must be ruined. Big Cove has juicy flavorful pork and the sauce is a perfect compliment. The sweet tea is a local favorite and is NOT Milo's. Take some time off and let those taste buds recover from whatever you've been eating at the other places. This Texas girl loves bbq and sweet tea............and knows what the real stuff tastes like. BIG COVE has it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hey, this poll only has 98% votes.................what's with that?

  • Brian - 15 years ago

Polls closed before 8:00 P.M. I didn't get to vote for my favorite. I thought it was open til 11:59. Is this poll rigged? Big Cove was leading all day with 33%and then when the second place restaurant tied, the polls suddenly close?

The best Big Cove BBQ all around and tender meat. Love the peoples that work there. Great Grandson said it the best.

  • Chuck Browning - 15 years ago

Huntsville, if you have not eaten at Big Bob Gibson's in Decatur, you have not eaten BBQ

  • Bulldog37 - 15 years ago

Ate at Big Cove today to give it a fair shot for my vote. From what I had today, I am not sure why it is even in the running. Absolutely flavorless pork. No smoke, flavor, no nothing. I did like the sauce. Good thing, because I had to really pour it on to get anything that remotely tasted like BBQ. Not trying to be a downer or hypercritical. I am a big fan of family run shops. Just not sure what the hype is for Big Cove. Much better BBQ at the Chuckwagon, Thomas and New Market. As for the guy who LOVES the sweet tea, I saw the secret recipe today. They ran out and gave me a refill from a Milo's gallon jug.

BIG COVE BBQ is the place to be for lunch. Always full of smiling hungry people. The pork sandwiches are so thick and moist that my wife has to ask them to make them petite. I've never had a bad meal there and if you haven't tried it, then make a point to, you won't be disappointed. My vote is for BIG COVE BBQ and after you have eaten there your vote will be too. Oh, the tea is real good too. BIG COVE BBQ is the BEST!!

If you haven't tried New Market BBQ then you are totally missing out!
With the new owners, the service is second to none and they easily have the beat brunswick stew that I've ever had, and i've tried it at every BBQ establishment that I have stopped at. By the time I'm done eating I'm so full but the desserts always look sooo good.
They also have a great catering service as well, they are located on Winchester rd in new market

  • Stowers - 15 years ago

LAWLERS ALL THE WAY!! They have the best bbq, ribs, and ckns. I love the stuffie potatoes with ham. The ham adds that salty sweet taste and makes the potato out of this world. Not only is their food top notch, they have the best customer service of any business I've ever been to.

  • Elizabeth - 15 years ago

Chuck Wagon BBQ is absolutely the best BBQ I've had anywhere & I lived in TX for 7 years. It's a shame that more people haven't had a chance to try it. They are a newer game in town & very low key. But, it's a treat and worth the drive. I live on the other side of the county!

  • Jim - 15 years ago

When I think of BBQ, I only want Lawlers'. They are the best! The Hobbs Street Location in Athens serves not only the best BBQ; but they also have great home made pies! Yum,Yum!

    BIG COVE BBQ

BEST BBQ EVER!!!!!! We bring the family and PIG OUT!!!!! Thanks for being in our town, you are the GREATEST!!! We enjoy the take out and dining in too. Love the ICE TEA, just like Grandma made!!!

  • Martha Johnson - 15 years ago

We need you "Big Cove" in Stafford, Texas......

  • Jan & Corky - 15 years ago

Ole Hickory BBQ is the best in Huntsville or Maysville Rd. It has the best Ribs, chicken & pulled pork. They will even do a chopped chicken plate for my 84 year old mother as it is hard for her to eat. We love the Peanut Butter Pie it is awesome. The cakes are always great but they make a Red Velvet Cake that is really great. Try both locations as they are both great food & people to visit with.

Chuck Wagon has a review here:

    http://blog.al.com/kaylor/2008/04/a_taste_of_texas_comes_to_the.html

Don't count on those hours though as they have changed. Call first.

  • Bama Griz - 15 years ago

Sorry folks but when we moved here in 2000 we could not figure out what was this "Alabama" BBQ. We are partial to Texas BBQ. And Chuck Wagon BBQ is a great Texas import. They are in Madison right off I-565 headed north on Wall Triana. Take a left at the first stoplight off the exit. About one block on the right is Chuck Wagon. I'm getting hungry just thinking about it!

  • Jim - 15 years ago

After a round of golf at Robert Trent course, our group stopped at Big Cove BBQ. What a treat!!! The BBQ and other foods were excellent. We decided to take some BBQ to our families, so we purchased a cooler at Walmart. We loaded the cooler with ice and BBQ. Our families were very pleased and happy with our surprise--they kept saying--Best BBQ ever.

  • Johnathon - 15 years ago

Ever since i have moved to Huntsville in 2001 Lawler's BBQ has always been my first choice. There is nothing in Indiana that beats LawLer's BBQ.

  • John - 15 years ago

I like the Old Greenbrier the best. Hopefully it is the one listed here as Old Alabma 20 rather than the on just off I-565. That one is as over rated as Big Bob Gibsons and some of the other water logged BBQ places in town. Sorry if their your favorites.

I can't imagine how Big Cove BBQ could be listed with such high marks. If they are the one near the Walmart, they aren't open enough to have a rating of any kind.

  • Thurman - 15 years ago

When it comes to BBQ Lawler's is the best over all. From their pork sandwiches to their Brunswick stew. Their blue ribbon stuffed potatoes are the biggest and best in the area and their service and staff are second to none.

  • Cara - 15 years ago

The ONLY reason JOE'S PITSTOP isn't at the top of the pile is because it is so new on the BBQ scene (not even a year I think) and because they are kind of out in the middle of no-where (72 East past Huntsville, over chapman mountain, another few miles towards Scottsboro, turn left on Ryland Pike (just after bright yellow used car dealership on right) cross railroad tracks and is immediately on right in same lot as Ryland Post Office). If you care enough to be reading these comments, take a nice ride out into the country (Thur, Fri, Sat & Sun & they close early so plan ahead) and try some BBQ that I feel will make you wish you voted differently.

  • Steve - 15 years ago

Thomas has both the best BBQ pork and chicken. The building is not much to look at but the BBQ is outstanding. You can smell their smokehouse a mile away. Nothing fancy here but food.

  • Tonya - 15 years ago

I LOVE Lawler's BBQ, ribs, chicken and turkey.
    Service is ALWAYS GREAT!!

  • Tom - 15 years ago

    LAWLER'S, enough said.

  • Jacob - 15 years ago

I like all BBQ but I think Thomas has the best.

  • Ruthie - 15 years ago

Fire on the Mountain is the best kept secret around. I always thought Greenbrier was the best but after trying this place I won't go anywhere else. They have ribs that are out of this world and their white sauce is AMAZING. It's good on everything!
They have a friendly down home atmosphere. Everytime I'm there the owner always comes out to check on us and make sure that we are happy with our food. Grilled corn is melt in your mouth delicious... and the catfish is local.
If only they had fried pickles it would be perfect!

  • AMP - 15 years ago

Ole Hickory has some of the best BBQ I've ever eaten!!!! Pulled pork, ribs, chicken, wings, stew and stuffed potatoes (my favorite)!!!!! What more could you ask for?!?! Oh yeah, whatever you do, don't leave until you've tried their Peanut Butter Pie!!!! All I can say is OMG!!!!! Think I'll go there today for lunch!!! Yummy!!!

  • Julie - 15 years ago

Big Cove BBQ is the BEST!!!!! The ribs are the most tender ribs I've ever had. My kids want to drive everywhere by way of Big Cove. Check out the party packs too, pork, buns and sides to go. And the sweet tea is A H H H so delicious. BIG COVE! BIG COVE! BIG COVE! We are glad you are close by.

  • Sally - 15 years ago

Ole Hickory BBQ is the best, hands down, from pulled Pork to Chicken to Ribs that fall off the bone, and the sides that go with them. Have to mention Banana Pudding and Pies too. Can eat there all week and not have the same thing twice; great variety.

  • JoJo - 15 years ago

Scruggs is the best I've eaten in this area, with Big Bob's quickly behind,
but being a native Texan, I'd have to say that my Dad's was the all time greatest BBQ hands down!

  • kitkat - 15 years ago

Joe's Pit Stop is the best. The BBQ is awesome, Joes sauce (mild and hot) ar are the best around, the ribs fall off the bone gets no better than that...and the banana pudding on Sundays is to die for...

  • Rob - 15 years ago

I eat BBQ whenever I can get it and have eaten all over the counry, but Big Bob Gibson's in Decatur, AL is the best! No contest. I'm not the only one who thinks so ... they have a ton of world championship trophies to prove it, but even if they didn't they've had my vote for at least the last 45 years or so.

  • Henry - 15 years ago

Scruggs is the best but they are never open.

  • Kathy - 15 years ago

We eat BBQ every where we go and the best is in Texas. Chuck Wagon BBQ is based out of Texas and they are for sure the best. If you have not tried them then you have missed out. They are in Madison next to KFC.

  • Susan - 15 years ago

Lived here all my life and the best we have ever had in the restraunt (Old Establishment) and as well as used them for catering is the Greenbrier, people are always friendly and service is great as well as the food!!!!!!

  • Patsy - 15 years ago

I've traveled to many different places and tried to eat what "they" call Barbecue, but find myself always coming home to Southern Hickory Barbecue. Southern Hickory is just "simply the best"

  • Sand Mt Oldee - 15 years ago

From FLA, where they don't know what BBQ is, I have sampled BBQ all over the US and Thomas' BBQ bets all others. Most recently I tried OKLA JHoe's in Olathe KS and could not finish a small BBQ sandwich it was so bad!
