Would you let your child be paddled at school if he or she misbehaved?

(This is about spanking in schools: I'm quite sure that this comment will never be read on air by any follow-up news segment- because it isn't the policitally correct response that you were looking for when you posted this question to the public, but here is the truth. PLEASE prove me wrong by reading it on air.)--- Here is my opinion and personal experience: Getting a paddling at school at any level (K-12) is not the most terrible thing that can happen to a child. The fact of the matter is, teachers spend as much time, if not more, interacting with a child on a daily basis, maybe even more than their parents. I'm not talking about clock time, I'm talking about face to face time. This makes them a very important role model/parental figure to a child, and should be allowed to correct a child like a parent. All a spanking is, is a last resort corrective punishment for an undesireable behavior. I am not talking about beatings. I am talking about controlled, predetermined punishment. For example: if you disrupt class... 2 licks in the hall (with another teacher as a witness-always), picking a fight, 3 licks, cheating, 4 licks, talking during quiet time, 1 lick, etc. And there is an entire list of age related levels of anti-social behavior that requires corrective punishment with corresponding set number of spanks per offense. I know there are other behavioral adjustment "schools of thought", but considering the number of school shootings, school gangs, rampent drug sales and abuse, etc, that have only happened since corpral punishment has fallen out of favor, I don't think that the head-in-the-sand-got-to-be-politically-correct approach works. I have been out of school for a while, so for those of you who don't remember, or are too young, lick=smack on the bottom with a paddle. PS It hurts your pride more than the flesh... it gets the point across, and should be a standard/predictable punishment for disruptive behavior. I'm sure you noticed I gave a short list of infractions, but my point is profound and direct. When young children learn at an early age that there is a standard of behavior, and there are specific consequences for specific unacceptable behavior, then they understand that there are more severe consequences for more severe anti-social-criminal behavior. Think about it: if you don't suffer any consequences (1 lick/smack) for pulling Sally's ponytail in Kindergarten, then you are already being taught that you can get away with anything with no reprocussions... it only escilates from there. Not every hair-puller becomes a rapist-murderer, of couse, but, if at the school level, if something as harmless as a spanking can teach a young person that doing something bad has consequences, then many MANY fewer violent crimes will be committed on our society when they become adults.

In 6th grade I being a student of the same age at a middle school in Georgia in 1980 watched another student get a very long paddling. 50 from male coach to male principal 10 back to the coach 50, then 2nd male 50, during this point the student puts his hand in the way and the 1st male PE teacher says he will break his hand if he does not move it, the 1st male again 50. 1st female coach 50, a tall student was picked gave him 50, back to female coach 50 more, back to first male coach 50. All this at first is happening with the girls and the guys sitting silently on the bleachers. 50 from the 2nd female PE teacher, another female student picked 50 from her, back to the 2nd female PE coach 50 then back to the 1st male PE coach for 50. A walk to the band room follows. Female band teacher gives him 50, PE male coach 50. Then they walk into the main school again to the woodworking guy who gives him 50, that coach again 50. The woodworking guy says something about this new paddle he made. There is a pause then the boy lets out a few screams 50 from him followed by 50 from male PE coach. Down the hall they go to the female history teacher where she gives him 50 followed by 50 more from the 1st male PE teacher. A threat of more from both of them. I am cutting class this whole time seeing this happen. To the front of the school they walk to a female industrial arts teacher for 50, 1st male PE coach 50 more. Another female teacher down the hall gives him 50 and the 1st male PE coach 50. I was shaking myself in shock from seeing this. The boy is now told his paddling is over. I was myself once threaten with this type of paddling from him but I keep silent and managed to avoid it. I wonder to this day if that was abuse or not? 1,210 is a lot of hard cracks from a paddle on his rear end. You hear these people getting 1 to 20 hits, that does not compare to this.
