    Reckless spending. Too much pork. If the Govt. really wanted to seal the border they could. I think there is too much corruption and greed in both the American and Mexican governments.

    Bush = #1 trillion debt
    Obama 100 days = $3 trillion debt & growing

    Tell me, what did we get for it? (No, don't tell me)

    Jon are you serious? Or did you copy/paste this from daily kos?

    You put troops on the border and more dogs/border guards you can help stop drugs from coming in.

    A look at Cali tells it all. The jails "were" over run by illegals. The hospitals are being over run by illegals. These 2 things cost billions of dollars. Specially when you are paying all state workers union wages.

    Then when you raise taxes on the people who actually do pay for the jails and hospital bills you get people losing their jobs because small business have to lay people off due to higher taxes. It also causes companies to relocate to other states.

    Hence Cali has double unemployment and about to go bankrupt.

    @Matt
    The prudent response to the problems along our southern border would be to end the drug war. It is the cause of more violence and jailing in this country and our neighbor to the south than anything else, and it has not had any kinds of results. Decriminalization has been in effect in other countries for years now, with no ill-effect, and Portugal has even legalized drug use with no long term effects (a quick spurt of uses being reported shortly after legalization).

    Without a comprehensive immigration strategy and a new stance on drugs, the problem on our southern border will never be changed. And thanks to progressivist-Republicans and Democrats who demand moral authority under the guise of "for the children", that hasn't been allowed to happen. So we spend billions on a failing drug program which only makes the cartels along our border and gangs in our nation stronger.

    In regards to why we don't militarize our southern border, there are practical and historical reasons for it. For historic: See ROME. For practical, the more we arm the southern border, the more the cartels will arm themselves. As long as drugs are illegal, they will have more than enough money to buy weapons and militarize themselves. Only by cutting off their income source can we stop the cartels.

    Oh, and the whole "biological threat" thing can't be stopped by a military.

    Obama's unwillingness to protect our borders and eliminate the collossal threat posed to our nation by the flood of illegal immigrants is his largest failure. With Mexico conducting military operations on the Mexican border, the resulting drug wars spilling into our cities, along with the biological threat of swine flu, the argument against placing US troops on the southern border is becoming increasingly hollow. It is a prudent response to the threat posed by the instability that exists. The proper role of the federal government is to take defensive, and sometimes offensive action to protect the citizens of this country. That is why we are in Afghanistan. Why would there not be the same approach on threats closer to home? Unless there is truly an intent to utilize the illegal masses for political purposes? A chilling concept for sure.
